The last time I was at Mr. B's was 1/25/2013- so just about 10 months ago. My food was so terrible that I said I wouldn't go back. I decided to give them another try today. Not a good idea. I ordered carry out for lunch- a chicken quesadilla. It was $11.12 and this was on the appetizer menu. I was pretty small- 4 pieces in total. In each piece there were about 2 cubes of chicken, I'd say in total less than an ounce of chicken in the quesadilla. It wasn't really grilled- more like toasted. Definitely not worth $11.12. I shouldn't have given them another try but I was hopeful. Mr. B's is a FAIL.

How long have I lived here and never have I been in a restaurant for 20 mins before finally being asked, can I get you anything. Lmao Left without eating to head down the street for food. Did Mr B's become too cool for school or what.

It's unfortunate I can't leave 0 stars. The service was bad, and the food was worse. I ordered a chicken sandwich, and it was barely cooked. It was one of the worst meals I've ever had. Service was bad as well. There are so many better options in Rochester whether it's for lunch, dinner or drinks.

Best BBQ sandwich in the area. Yes the inside is a little dark, but its a sports bar. A lot of good view for the game. The outside deck is nice if the weather permits. The food is good and I love their BBQ.

My review will echo others on this list. We went here on New Year's eve for dinner. The restaurant was pretty empty. My wife's family lives in Rochester and, as they would describe it, Mr. B's is an institution that they've enjoyed for decades. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot has changed and gone down hill. Two of our drink orders were wrong (a martini was on the rocks, which it shouldn't have been, and a whiskey ginger came out as a whiskey sour). A wine order was almost wrong, until we caught it and corrected it mid-flight. When the food arrived, one person never got their food. We were told originally that her meal takes a bit longer. The order never arrived until the rest of us were done eating, at which point it became clear that the waitress had put in the wrong order, causing the delay. The waitress had thrown her kitchen under the buss for the mistake from the start. As for my order, a veggie burger, it came without cheese or the avocado I ordered. When I asked the waitress about the fixings, she looked had no clue and told me to poke around so that she didn't have to use her fingers on my food. Neither the cheese or the avocado had been added so they had to bring those out after. The seasoned fries that I had heard so much about weren't seasoned very much at all and when we asked for extra seasoning, the waitress said that all it is was salt and pepper (which my wife swears is not what their popular seasoning had been). All of our food was rather bland and not up to the quality that they remember from all of their visits over the years. It was such a bad experience that the waitress tried to take one of the food orders off of our bill as compensation but she wasn't able to figure out what had been removed and what hadn't. We were a party of seven so we were a big group but there weren't many other people in the restaurant so this isn't an instance of the waitress or the kitchen being overwhelmed. My wife's family was very disappointment as this had been a restaurant they raved about and enjoyed for decades. Unfortunately, it seems to have lost a lot.

Ok so this place is a great dive Bar and as far as I know it's the original Mr. B's. The food is classic American bar food so don't expect anything too fabulous. That being said they have the BEST season fries I've ever had and their Pizza is good. Cheap CHEAP drinks are a plus too!

Nicole is mean for no reason. All we tried to do was patronize the business and she made Mr. B's a very unwelcome environment. Ruined my Mr B's experience. And probably every time I will meet another person named Nicole

I have absolutely no complaints about Mr. B's. The frequency with which I am here should probably embarrass me... But it doesn't. I've never eaten anything that I don't like. It's nothing gourmet. Typical bar fare but I'm never disappointed. I have two favorite bartenders, Sam and Kimberlie. They are absolutely the best! I love the casual atmosphere and the fact that I live two minutes away doesn't hurt either. I can't say enough positive things about this place. :)

As a personal hometown favorite for 23 years, it's about time Mr. B's included more vegetarian options on the menu. I know it's a meat and potatoes kind of place, but times have changed, and so have the peoples' tastes for rotting flesh. With so many varieties of burgers, it would be simple to include veggie burgers on the repertoire. After living in a city like Chicago, it is obvious how bars and food go together- good drinks- good food.. and that's what Mr. B's is supposedly all about. It's about time for Mr. B's to be progressive and stand out amongst other restaurants and bars in the area, and serve something other than toss salads and quesidillas that vegetarians can eat. A conscientious update to the menu is essential. And for the sake of the meat eaters, at least purchase and advertise your meat from sources that are local, organic, and come from humane farms, not the average factory farm, which 99% of meat comes from.

We had our rehearsal dinner here - and it went great! We had the back room booked, and the servers were awesome. The dinner was in catering trays, buffet-style. The hosts (my husband's parents) had these drink tickets made up because they were only covering everyone's first two rounds. The staff worked with that, and the night was a great time. Definitely look into them as a potential location for group events.

Went here with a large group this past weekend - would NOT return. Service was awful. We had a group of about 20 (seated immediately, even in this Main Street bar on a Saturday night, which you tell you something) and got one waitress. She seemed nice enough but didn't seem to know anything about the place where she worked (drink specials, food recommendations) and she was agonizingly slow. We're talking about 30 minutes to get drinks out and almost an hour and fifteen minutes for appetizers, never mind entrees. Food was not good. I did not order an entree for myself having read the other Yelp reviews before coming to this place, but I did get to check out the appetizers. Everything was either over-seasoned or soggy - members of our party were wiping seasoning off their fries with napkins. Beer selection was disappointing and my vodka tonic came out flat, lukewarm, and weak (like it had been mixed and then left out while all the ice melted). One of the highlights of our evening was meeting the manager that came out to speak with us while sucking on a big slobby wad of chewing tobacco - lovely. Building appearance was average - about what you'd expect for a sports bar - dark, TVs everywhere. Bathrooms were decent. Music was (IMO) obnoxiously loud the entire evening. All told, we did get a small discount for our trouble but you couldn't get me back in Mr. B's if the food was free. Rochester has so many other places you could take your money, pass this place up.

I've lived my life in Rochester and B's has always had pretty good food and ok service. But, recently it's getting worse. The service is a crap shoot, some days it's ok and on other days it's very bad. I can't remember a day that I'd say the service was good.

Unlike the other people who have commented I have not tried the food here. I have only gone here for beers at night with some friends. Unlike the other people her I do not have a strong disdain for Mr B's. Mr B's is a "chain" restaurant with other locations in Troy and Royal Oak. They are known for being sports bars. If you want to catch a game and have a good beer on tap then this is the place to go. They usually have some $3 special every month. If you are looking to pick up the ladies you might want to head down the road but this place still has a few. Overall an OK place, but def not as bad as the commenters made it out to be.

  • Miike G.

Wow! Can't believe this place is still around! Atmosphere is lame no specials whatsoever and the place smells like candles. Recommended for people over the age of 55. Will not be returning to this place.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for this Rochester staple. What I really love about Mr. B's is the roof-top deck during the summer. The bar is big and the bartenders are attentive and friendly. Although the food isn't mind-blowing, it's relatively tasty and very reasonably-priced. The menu is pretty big and although I've never ordered it, I've heard the pizza is actually pretty good. I usually stick to their basic cheeseburger, which I've always been happy with. Though it is pretty hard to screw up a burger.

I'm a regular at Mr. B's. A good friend recommended it. I think its a good place for happy hour or hang out with friends and catch the game. You can get a good meal and a few beers for a reasonable price and there are plenty of TVs to watch the game. The waitresses are plesant and everyone is pretty laid back.

  • Eric C.

Ate at Mr B's this past Friday, am a regular. The decor isn't that great, too dark and a bit run down, but it has that "authentic" feel that places like Friday's try to create artificially. The food is standard sports bar fair, but it is good and the portions are generous. Waitresses are pleasant and attentive, but it does get crowded on a weekend night.

This place was out of half of the beers they supposedly offered. They should update their lists! Half of the servers are rude. Even when the place is dead, they sit around and ignore the only table in the restaurant. They do have good pizza and bar food though. Hopefully your waitress won't be hung over or drunk!

  • Love S.

The service here was just ok. Several times we were looking for our waitress but she was no where to be found. I had ordered just a side of sweet potato fries and they came out totally burnt, to the point of they were black. When I mentioned this to the waitress, her response was "Oh they do look horrible!" If she noticed this in the first place why did she serve it to me? The better question is why did the cooks let it leave the kitchen looking like that?? They made me a new order and they were much better! The interesting thing is when the waitress set down the new order next to the old order she said "Wow look at the difference?!" I know this place is just the neighborhood bar and the food isn't expected to be all that, but if your going to serve food the least you could do is make it edible. I really wish I took a side-by-side picture of the old and new order but the waitress took it away before I thought about it. As far as atmosphere, this place feels like a old college dormitory lounge that needs to be updated. The decor of this place is very outdated! And the crowd here was very young. My coworkers and I stopped here for drinks and a snack on a late Friday night. The age range of our group was from 26-43 years old and we all felt old compared to the rest of the crowd. The music playing was through a audio/video system that showed the song, artist, and recording date on the tv above the bar. This was fun because our group had fun guessing the year of all the early 80s songs that played.

We were just here on December 28 - terrible service, skanky bartender and bad food. So sad, been a resident of Rochester for 40 years and been a fan, but no longer . It's obvious the owners don't care. Not going back.

This is a great place for a casual meal and drinks. Great pizza....really the best! Good salads and some interesting appetizers too. A little bit of everything. It still has that old home town look. Love the roof top deck in the summer but hate hate the bar stools....Very uncomfortable!

Service is awful. Food is not good other than the fries. Place never changes.

  • Matt G.

This place was terrible. The service was extremely poor. The waitress told us that the beer was on hold due to a blown keg, fine, no big deal. 20 minutes later it's ready and she credits people were too chatty in the back. We also had an issue with the manager who was extremely rude and unpleasant. We will NEVER come back to this place since they don't care about their customers.

  • Jeff M.

Food is OK, Beer selection is decent. Customer Service BLOWS! It takes forever to get an order in or even get a drink. We had 3 waitresses walk past us. Sat for over 30 min's and no one ever came to take our order. Refuse to go back to this place no matter how many friends are there.

I think my husband used to actually live at Mr. B's when he/we lived in DT Rochester, no seriously he was there more than is healthy! However, after spending time at B's many a time, post date, I grew very fond of the place. The drinks are reasonable, there are pool tables, the staff is friendly, and during the summer the upstairs patio is really nice. In addition, there is a more laid back feeling to this bar, mostly because there is no annoying dance floor pumping techno beats into my brain. I have also eaten here a number of times (while drinking of course) and it is pretty standard bar food; burritos, burgers, french fries, etc. However, I live and work out constantly so I can eat their pizza! The B's pizza in Rochester is different than the B's in Troy (I found this out the hard way) and it is oh so yummy. It is my favorite pizza, and if you want a special treat order extra pepperoni well done, which will make the pepperonis extra crispy. Yum! If you are looking for a more laid back atmosphere to hang out on a Fri/Sat night I highly recommend B's. I have always had a consistently good experience here.

My mother and I ate on the rooftop here years ago and it was a pretty good experience. After recently moving to Rochester I was excited to take advantage of the local fare. Tried this place twice and both the service and food were absolutely horrible!! The servers are not friendly and just stand around in a huge group gabbin and looking incredibly bored. Will not be going back anytime soon.

Just got back from dinner here because everywhere else was full and I can see now why this place was empty! I have lived in Rochester for 24 years and this place USED to be a packed place for dinner and good food but now it is all junk. It literally smells like a 30 year old bowling alley (probably from all the past smoking), the servers seem a bit incompetent, I will bet any money the food either came from a can, freezer or microwave and every single table was grimy, sticky and gross! There were literally 6-8 tables that were full in the entire place for dinner tonight and the waitress STILL had to wipe a table off when we sat down even though there was clearly no one at the table for hours. I have never written a review for a restaurant or signed up on a site like this to review it, but I felt so strongly about this place that I had to. We went to Bar Louie just a mile down the street (same kind of ambiance) and it was a 35 minute wait! At Mr. B's 80% of the tables were empty. This place has definitely changed over the years, very depressing and has definitely gone down hill. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY THERE! Go south down Rochester Road a couple of miles and go to Chili's (which is awesome and has been around almost as long as Mr. B's) or go to The Village mall over on Walton just a couple of miles east of here and they have a Max and Erma's, Mitchell's Fish Market, Flat Top Bistro (kind of like a B.D.'s Mongolian BBQ) and Kruese and Muer.

What a depressing dump. Please excuse me in advance for sounding like a jackass, but: Mr. B's reminds me of why I left Michigan for the west coast (first Seattle and now San Diego). The food was so provincial. And I don't mean that in an "Anthony-Bourdain-local/street-food-can-be-just-as-pleasing-as-gourmet-food" kind of way. I mean it in an "every-offering-at-this-restaurant-can-also-be-found-on-a-menu-at-Wendy's-and-I'll-bet-my-bottom-dollar-the-soup-is-from-a-can" kind of way.

Was looking for some local fare after visiting and shopping the Kris Kringle Market event on 4th St, and came across Mr B's. This little place was hopping, and there was a half hour wait time to get a table. The bar area was just the spot to hang out while waiting for our table. The menu choices were not fancy, so the stuffed shirt, golden pallet types, may want to steer clear. That being said, the food we did get, was very good, and priced pretty well. The meals are about a 7 to 15 dollar range, and portion size was reasonable. The server we had was just ok, she took the order and brought the food when ready, but nothing special, she sorta lacked the type of interpersonal skills that fills up the tip jar. (We did tip our min of 20%) OK now for a couple of negatives: This is a bar restaurant, and one of the things that stood out to me (and I am sure others), was how the pool table area was over-run with bored little window lickers. It never ceases to amaze when I go into adult type places where folks believe that their little bundles of joy, should be shared by everyone. Come on, stop torturing your kid...drive the little rugrats over to Chucky Cheese or McDonald's playland or some other germ infested play area for them...thats where they want to be! (HUGE pet-peeve) The second negative, we ordered the seasoned fries instead of plain! I get that salt is a seasoning, but I really didn't think that it meant I would have the equivalent to a salt lick! Overall, this was a pretty neat little local joint that provided some warmth, some beer, and some tasty hot food. If I was local to Rochester, this would be a regular joint that I would return to!

  • Lauren M.

A Rochester staple - the original Mr. B's! The seasoned fries are amazing here - definitely too die for! I'd also order the chicken basket, pizza, slop burger. Be careful, sometimes they add new things to the menu that are so/so, but overtime everything has tasted better! The service is good, but can be crowded and smokey on the weekends. Definitely a spot for the younger 20s crowd.

We went with a largish group on a Saturday afternoon. The place was pretty dead, but they didn't seem all that willing to configure tables for us all to sit together. The waitress seemed really scattered, even though they weren't busy. My friend's baby was crying and what may have been a hostess? came over and said "everyone" was telling her to come and see what was wrong with that baby, and she should hold him. It was kind of awkward, and made us feel like just because he was fussing a bit we were disrupting the whole place, which I don't think was the case. The food was just......kind of yuck. I ordered a California Club pizza, which was a thick crust (listed on the menu as thin) covered in a mountain of iceberg lettuce. I think there were probably 4 little chunks of chicken on the whole pizza. The atmosphere was dark and sullen. It did not seem like a place that was fun to go to at all.

I love reading reviews on Yelp because you can always tell who the idiots are. Provincial food? Crying babies? Hahaha. It's a bar. They serve food, specifically bar type food. Don't bring your kids, leave your BA in English at home. It's a bar. Oh, as far as the actual place goes, it's pretty good. Sitting on the roof on a summer evening is nice. :)

It has been hit and miss for me with Mr. B's. There have been times when I thought the food was really stellar and others when I have been completely unimpressed and even a little grossed out. Not sure if it had to do with what I ordered or who was preparing food that day. The last time I went in I ordered a salad that was half brown and wilting. And the waitress had no idea what the drinks were we wanted to order. I usually like their sandwiches and seasoned fries. I will try them again and hope for the best!

This place used to be the place to go in downtown rich for sports games, but e owner is a cheap jerk and it is obvious with how he tries to handle a sports bar. There are never any specials during the big games for local teams during playoff or whenever, so I'm surprised he gets anyone in when there are surrounding bars with better TVs that have amazing specials. I just don't see the point to go get seated in an uncomfortable booth for three hours to have to turn my head to see a tv from 6 years ago. With crap picture. Granted the pizza here is good and consistent, including the campfire burger and ranch, but I just wish it was more inviting for sports like it used to be, and also the service has fallen short to expectations of the past. Maybe one day well have old bs back. Who knows.

This is yet another restaurant of which the appeal escapes me. Their burgers are average and they serve it with soggy, chewy house-made chips and act like it's something special.

Mr. B's is your typical dive bar. There is cheap drinks, greasy food, and the regulars who look like they've never left. That being said, it's a great place to go if you're looking to meet up with friends and have a good time. I myself have taken advantage of that more than once.

  • Taylor A.

Mr. B's is always a hit or miss for me. I would say out of the Rochester and Royal Oak locations the Rochester one is the worst. On more than on occasion I have been left standing in the middle of the restaurant waiting for a table because none of the servers feel it is their job to set anyone. The atmosphere is extremely dark, like there are no lights on, and quite frankly a little sad. After waiting 25 minutes for a 2 top table on the upper deck at the Rochester location, my guest and I were ignored by every single employee that walked by. I got the attention of a server and she told me she would be right back...we never saw her again. That was the second time I walked out of a Mr. B's location. But sometimes going to Mr. B's isn't so bad. Recently, and friend and I stopped by for a drink on the patio at the Royal Oak location on bike night. The server was a little show on the drinks but other then that I have no complaints. You really have to lower your standers when deciding to eat or drink at a Mr. B's.

As a resident of Rochester I've been here multiple times. Food is what it is..bar food. However, the indifferent service on the rooftop has deteriorated further, and is now blatantly shi**y. Somebody manage this place!!

  • 24skateboarding24 ..

Decent interior, it is quite deceptive however because it does not make up for the rest of the bad things about this restaurant. The service is awful, the tv's are way too loud, suffice to say I didn't have a good time. I ordered a cheeseburger cooked medium rare and when it arrived it was uncooked. This really set me off because my drink that I ordered earlier had a bug in it, so I had wasted precious minutes of my life waiting for a new drink and burger. This restaurant is clearly meant to be more of a pub/bar it was quite clear to me that they would rather have you piss drunk ordering round after round. It is quite sad because in an awesome city like Rochester you will probably be expecting a nice time here. But it's more probable that you will have the exact opposite.

I ate here with three other coworkers during lunch on a Tuesday. The place was pretty much dead, other than about one or two other small tables, but we would still go 20 minutes without a glimpse of our server. Eventually, I was able to order a burger (they can't possibly mess up a burger, right?), which for some reason came plain. No lettuce, tomato, onions, etc. After another painfully long wait, I was brought a plate toppings. I won't even get into the taste of the mealy, disintegrating patty, or the day-old fries, but suffice it to say, that will be my last trip to the B's.

What happened to Mr B's? Used to have great burgers. No more! I ordered a BBQ with bacon burger and it came with barely any BBQ sauce, and had no bacon! Had to ask for them to bring the bacon I paid for. Cola was flat & too sweet. Lemonade too sweet too. Had to send drinks back & asked for plain water. All the food was blah. Won't ever be back again. Do the owners even read these reviews. I think not!! Wake up Mr B's!!

I stopped in here last night for a bite to eat with my mom after some shopping, and overall it was a okay. I've heard mixed reviews about this place, but went in with an open mind and kind of left with mixed feelings. In one sense, it's not a bad place. I wasn't looking to be blown away by any one particular thing, but I left kind of feeling mediocre. For starters, we ate on the patio, which is a first for us since we normally aren't patio eaters. The chairs were metal and somewhat uncomfortable. It was almost like sitting in a lawn chair. They were uncomfortable and I had a hard time finding a good position to sit in. My mom and I reviewed the menu, and nothing really jumped out at me. We both went with burgers, and we had a variety of sides to choose from. If you bypass the chips, it's an extra $1.99. We both wanted sweet potato fries since we love them so much. I went with the sloppy burger, but I can't remember what my mom had. The food came out and my burger was overcooked. I ordered medium and it came out well done. Also, I got the chips instead of the sweet potato fries I ordered. I didn't complain about the burger because I was hungry and I hate complaining, but I told the waitress I ordered sweet potato fries and not the chips. She apologized and brought some out a few minutes later. I was happy with our server and she did a great job despite the error. I found that the patio seemed weird. The drinks came out in plastic cups, the knife my mom requested was plastic, but the forks were regular silverware. Why is this? Are they trying to prevent people from stabbing each other and attacking each other with glass? Are my mom and I a dangerous crowd that might attack at any given moment? I am allowed to use sharp objects, as is my mom. We are not animals. Real glassware and knives would have been wonderful. Maybe next time I will bring a doctors note requesting such items and that we are not a danger to society. I think this place is a better happy hour spot then anything else. Yes I would eat here again, but I saw lots of grown adults getting wasted, and maybe that's what I need to do next time I am here. A very drunk man was behind me going down the stairs when we were leaving. Like 60 and drunk. I was afraid he was going to trip on me, and tried to let him go ahead since he was at least twice my size. He insisted ladies first, so off I went. I was afraid he was going to fall down the stairs and smush me. I will come here again to people watch and hang out. I like seeing grown adults become excessively drunk and try to hold normal conversations.

I grew up here and have been to B's many times. I have no idea why. The food is meh, the service is poor/fair, and the prices are too high. It's not a very nice place, yet it doesn't have enough character or anything outstanding enough to make it a proper dive bar. Tonight our seasoned fries were really good! Pizza is generic pizza. Waitress was friendly but inattentive. Staff standing around all over the place just talking to each other or wandering around. I've never had anything here that I thought was good (other than the fries, which are just FRIES with salt and pepper - big deal), let alone great. It's just ... meh. I think after tonight's visit, I can cross it off my list for good. Too many other places to go in Rochester with better everything. It makes me sad, because I know it's an institution but I just don't get it. Edit: Two days later, eating leftover pizza for dinner, we both agree it's better as leftovers. That's just not right.

Seeing as Mr. B's is so close to our house, we like to frequent their awesome upstairs patio quite frequently. As time went on, the service and food kept getting worse and worse. One time I ordered the Mediterranean Plate and bit into a fully rotted cherry tomato -- that's how bad it is. We thought we would give it another shot because their patio is so great (but seriously we've given this place about 10 chances now). We sat down and waited. And waited. And waited. Until we finally went to the bar and asked the bartender if we could get drinks and menus. She came over, we ordered drinks. She brought us back one drink and no menus. We waited until I was half done with my drink - still no menus! Brought the second drink and it was wrong. Total time at this point, 25 minutes. We flag down another waitress to bring us menus, which she did promptly. The bartender never came back to get our order or to ask if we wanted more drinks. We finished our drinks, cashed out and decided to go inside to get better service. Total time by this point, 40 minutes. Go inside, sit down. We wait. And wait. And wait some more. Two tables are sat after us and have received service. We got up and left at that point and went down to Kabin Kruisers where we know we would get top notch service and awesome food. Total time at that point ONE HOUR. The worst part was that the place was practically dead. The bar was full, but the tables were empty. See ya never, Mr. B's.

I am NOT a fan of this place. I have been here twice and stayed maybe a 1/2 hr both times. Too d-baggy for me and I just didn't like the atmosphere. The waitress seemed out of it and their beer selection isn't the greatest. Thanks Mr. B's for narrowing down my list of where I DO want to hang out.

We weren't very impressed. It wasn't that bad... But could be better. Though it's more of a bar so what do you expect for bar food. The drinks (pop) tasted funny. Like a moldy taste. The waitress wasn't very professional either but I guess that's what you get for a bar.

The fries are so over seasoned to the point where I can't get enough refills to finish the basket of fries and I asked for a burger but didn't ask how I wanted it so what did they do they burn the life out of it if it was possible to rate no stars I would. This place blows!

Stopped in here for a quick lunch with a friend, I had never been here before. The place was dead, 2 tables full and 3 other people sitting at the bar near us. We ordered our lunches and he got a beer, and when my food came I asked for the bills and told the bartender I had to leave quickly. She gave us our bills, and disappeared as I was trying to hand her my credit card! She sat at a table eating and ignoring us completely, cards out the entire time. Then she and the waitress disappear completely and I literally never saw either of them again. We got our own boxes and left cash and left. Never going back, find a new bartender.
