My husband and I moved to Redford a few months ago and tried Happy Garden after reading reviews about the General Tsaos Chicken. Our first time here we both got an order of it plus some Crab Rangoons and Egg Drop Soup. It was so good that it is now what we get every time we order here. Plus I love that you can request how spicy you want your Gen. Tsaos chicken. It is good for my husband who likes mild and me that loves spicy. My husband has also had the sweet-and-sour pork and said it was good. I would definitely recommend this place.

I live a mile away. This place is fantastic. Not much to look at, but I order carry-out all the time. Prices aren't bad compared to most in the area. I consistently order the almond chicken with brown rice and an egg roll. Their egg rolls are legit and their chicken is better than anywhere around here. Dale Yees a few miles away is more costly and the chicken is a bit dry (I've eaten there multiple times as well). Now, if you're looking for healthy food, stay away from American Chinese food altogether. However, if you're looking for regular high-sodium, over-breaded, traditional American Chinese food...this is the place.

I didnt want to cook one night and stopped by Happy Garden on my way home. Like all chinese places I try, I start off with something easy. General Taos chicken medium spicy and it was worth it. I took two menus, one for my car and one for my office. I dont think they take credit cards but they are worth going to the bank for.

Very good basic Chinese food. We like the egg rolls, fat, crispy full of flavor! Curry Chicken is probably the best that I have ever had! The hubby likes the Sweet n Sour enough to order it ever time. The Egg Drop soup is just so so. But you wont leave hungry!!! Portions are hefty but the final check is not. Very reasonable prices. It is a hole in the wall...but I think that it is why we like it so much. Good food, great prices, plain atmosphere= Happy Family!

I used to look forward to my Chinese food binges from the best place in town.. unfortunately that's not even remotely close to being the case anymore... They closed down for their annual trip to China and ever since they reopened for business their food prices have made a dramatic increase and their quality has taken a drastic decline.. I'm sorely disappointed in the service and the hospitality presented while dining in.. Especially the attitude presented towards small children who maintain a mild mannered attitude in public as is... Sad to say that after twenty years this will be my last visit...

Usually my Yelpians are right on...but this time missed the bar. I mean it was inexpensive but for the few bucks I saved I should have gone to my normal place. Good amount of food with one spoon of rice no subs on combos. The customer service however was great. I would try their sushi place next door, just cause they were so nice.

Redford's secret. low cost but not low quality. Everything looks to be hand made egg rolls and wontons? See my pics. That was the small wonton soup! And steak kow. Crispy sweet peas and nice light sauce, my whole meal was ten bucks! Enter in the rear and don't let the store front scare you off as it did for me for the last 25 years. Enjoy

Our favorite Chinese restaurant. Great food at a good price. Try the shrimp and lobster sauce. : )

I'm going to do one last update since something is bothering me. The food was good once again, but is it too much to expect a little politeness on the phone when calling in an order, or a solid thank you. Maybe it's the culture, but goshdamn the abruptness for no reason is ridiculous. Smile a little, it goes a long way. That counter girl needs a lesson in customer service.

WOW! I hadn't been to Happy Garden in many years. A friend posted a comment on FaceBook about how great it is there, so I thought I'd give it another try. The old owners didn't take credit cards, but the new owners do. We ordered the General Tso's Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, Pork Fried Rice With Mushrooms, Shrimp Fried Rice and Egg Rolls. Everything was incredibly wonderful. We used to go to a Chinese place on 5 Mile near Merriman, but now my entire family agreed that the new and improved Happy Garden is our new favorite place. The workers were really nice, our food was nice and hot when we got it home and the chicken and pork were tender and great. My parents joined us for dinner and my 84 year old father said it was probably the best Chinese food he ever had. Thanks for a great meal Happy Garden!!!

So Friday evenings are my Chinese food and comedy time. Being new to the area I've tried almost everything locally and until now I hadn't found anything mentionable. Once my carry out order was ready the staff ensured the correct temperature of the food and let me try it to make sure I was pleased before I left. I will become their regular!

Anything that was fried in oil tasted like old fish. It really was an unpleasant experience.

Very good American Chinese food, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Almond Chicken, General Tso Chicken, any of the fried rice, huge portions for your $, dinner carry-out is under $10. Love the egg drop soup, its very light & made just right, egg rolls are really good too. Small place, doesn't look like much but the food is exceptional, try it out if you are in the area.

This place has been my favorite Chinese carryout for years but they close alot for long periods of time, the last time they did it a lil over a month ago said they were gonna be closed for like 6 weeks for some reason once again, that being said it forced me to seek out another chinese carryout place as I ordered from there at least once a week and couldnt go 6 weeks waiting for them to decide to open again. I tried 3 different new places and none were very good, I gave one more try and found rainbow chinese at 9mi and Farmington rd, there food was excellent and huge portions, so I now go there, sorry happy garden you cant run a part time business and expect to keep full time customers...peace out!

Super solid Chinese food place! Extremely reasonable prices ($5.50 for lunch, and portions are large!). I've had both Almond Chicken and Szcheuan Chicken - both are really great! Yellow gravy for the ABC and the Szcheuan is high quality. Lots of veggies. Eggroll is quality and the fried rice has nice, large pieces of chicken in it. Highly recommend!

A classic favorite place to grab some Chinese with friends when I'm visiting the old neighborhood. Happy Garden has been in this tiny little multi-tenant building forever and you'll know it when you walk in; the decor is woefully dated and the booth seating is patched with duct tape. Don't let the appearance fool you, though. They're serving up some pretty good stuff. Particular favorites of my circle and I include the Crab Rangoon, General Tso's chicken, beef chow mein, fried rice and egg rolls. About what you'd expect a Midwesterner to order at a Chinese restaurant, I guess. The egg rolls in particular are plump, semi-soft and stuffed full of sprouts and other goodies...simply delish. You can't get them like that in Florida (my current stomping grounds)...they do not exist. It's super small inside, so plan to carry out if you have a big crew with you. I'm not sure of their hours, but we commonly pick up from here in the late evenings. To this day, one of my friends stops by here several times a month from his place 20 minutes away, when he could more easily visit any Chinese restaurant in his neck of the woods. Is it the tasty vittles or just the nostalgia? Perhaps a little of both.

Brown gravy from a can is not a Chinese sauce. Everything tasted, well, off. The meat was not fresh. The egg rolls had an extremely bad aftertaste. This place is GROSS!

Great food. Horrible service. The people that work there, or at least the ones I have had experience with aren't friendly. I went with a friend to eat there for lunch, when they gave us our food we went to sit down. They told us that we couldn't sit down and we had to leave the restaurant. I guess before 6 oclock you can't eat inside the restaurant. So we sat down to eat our lunch on the curbs of the street...until we realized they didn't even give us plastic forks. Even though their customer service sucks, their food makes it totally worth it.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
