I'm hovering between a 2 and a 3. Here are the pluses: if you go regularly, the waitstaff remembers you and they are very friendly; they are very good at being flexible with special requests, check out is very fast once you get to the counter, most of their food is pretty good if you are in the mood for burgers, fries and shakes; the parmesan herb fries are AMAZING (i didn't think i would ever use that word!); usually there is plenty of seating. Negatives: around 9-11 at night, usually any night, for whatever reason the burgers and fries are really greasy and the buns get too toasty on the inside; parking sucks, they are understaffed so your regular friendly waitstaff has to apologize all the time for the wait (if there is one), now that it's school time, the place fills up fast at night. Just recently I went and sat there for an hour and didn't get food, then left. Honestly that's the first time it happened but that was also a busy night, so not typical. If you go during breakfast hours, their pancakes and eggs are subpar and if you are there at the beginning of breakfast you may have to wait a while for biscuits, but they are pretty good biscuits. Most of their other breakfast items are pretty good. I'm partial to the skillets and scrambles.

Sat down at a table that obviously had not been washed down since it still had sticky pink rings on the table, went to go pay for our meal and nobody was cashing us out, we saw employees just standing there, but the manager did eventually get to us and cash us out.

When sliding through town, it's always a safe bet to stop by the local Steak and Shake latch onto their namesake...a steak burger and a shake. I tend to play it safe and stick to chocolate, while the kids will likely try some new fad flavor. This is a place to come let your hair down and act like a kid while you blow straw wrappers at the person sitting across from you all while making funny faces at them. I sure hope that the manager has a sense of humor when we're around because we all think that once we step through the doors of this trendy diner, that the kid immediately comes out in us.

Again I visited the drive-through order the hotdog for muster only this time there was no condiments on the hotdog at all I call the restaurant all of the offer me was an apology I would avoid the drive-through at this restaurant.

i love this place... i think i wrote a review about a steak n shake in illinois somewhere but this is where i actually had a chance to enjoy my meal... i love how the burgers are greasy and fries are cut hella thin... the shakes are fuckin amazing too! i tried their chili once but, as much as i enjoy grease with my food, it was too damn greasy... they have a dish that's spaghetti noodles and chili... haven't tried it... kinda wanna... kinda don't... i'll mos def hit it up again whenever i'm back in the midwest or out east... i hate to say it but in-n-out... you got some comp...

Another staple in my Chicago to Detroit drive is this particular S&S. Easy to get to off the expressway, clean and fast. It's the perfect stop half way if you're looking for some food or even just a simple dessert. On this particular occasion I was feeling hungry so I ended up with the single Steakburger, some of their terrific fries and an orange drink. I know, that's simple, but I have to say this place is consistent with their meals and it was just the same as any other time I had been. I didn't get it this time, but I strongly recommend their shakes. VERY good and healthy portioned. You can also get all of this through the drive through and get a very good representation of what you'd get inside -- great when you're in a hurry, even when the time's pushing 10p. I've done that before and the wait is no more than your average BK or McD. Plus the ambiance is really interesting. I know we're near a college so it's always fun to people watch here especially if you're sitting in the booths by the front door.

Steak 'n Shake is a great burger place to visit in Kalamazoo. The service is good, I got my food almost instantly from ordering. The food is great, and there is a variety of milkshakes you can order. I recommend anyone who's looking for a good fast food restaurant to go here.

One of the larger Steak-N-Shakes I've been too. Service was slow, though, and the waitress got my order slightly wrong. I asked for a side of cheese fries in addition to the regular fries that already come with my meal (so I'd have one side of regular fries and another side of cheese fries). What I got was a side of regular fries with cheese on the side. What the heck? Food was good, though!

Service is good and fast. The young ladies that work this place are friendly and attentive. The food is ....Steak and Shake.... The only problem I've ever had was on our last visit.....(yesterday) The girlfriend found a SCREW in her Chili Five ways....Yes a Screw! We are not ones to complain...in fact, it is hard to when your laughing so hard at the back luck the two of us have when dinning out! The manager was sympathetic and nice, but could of done a tad more to ease the situation. The girlfriends food was comped and was no longer feeling hungry after spitting a screw out, so we left it at that! I had to pay for my four dollar burger....I think the meal should of been comped. altogether.but O' well...it is what it is! I'll go back, and so will the girl...it's just gonna be a while!

I actually like the food, pretty good prices as well. What I don't like is the staff. Absolutely no friendliness from anyone. No smiling, you order your food from the waitress and you don't hear from her again until she brings your food. Then she disappears again. Nobody checked on us to refill drinks or anything. Even my son was wondering where our waitress was. Now, I frequent every restaurant in Portage and this is by far the worst wait staff I have ever experienced. But do recommend the food.

I went to steak and shake early in the morning there was nobody in the establishment I first glance I saw the waitress laying down in the booth with what I assume to be her boyfriend sitting right next to her when I walked in the place look like a mass the floor was not clean the tables were not clean when she came in she said pardon the mess I've lost my cell phone and I've been stressing out about it the waitress lack energy and was not very prompt and it took me a while to get a refill on that I was drinking the food was okay but when I asked for seasoned fries more than three quarters of the fries were not seasoned my waitressing to ignore me a lot and then when she came back out and asked me for a second refill she went on into this exclamation about how she could find herself on using Facebook I cannot order another report or anything else after that because I was just interested in herself phone and was more distracted by the dirt on the floor the table thing on And her constant disappearing act she disappeared so much she could be David Blaines assistant I wanted to get her name but she wore no name tag when I left she never offered me a receipt she just wrote me up and said have a nice night she's lucky she got tipped it's a shame I really like steak and shake but this one was a fail
