One thing I've noticed about my fellow Yelpers is that we truly enjoy praising a worthy establishment. We are optimists and like giving credit where credit is due. That having been said, Erbelli's is very deserving of a five star rating. Let's start with the food. I always respect a place that has gluten-free items because of my son's celiac disease. Erbelli's had G-free items before most people even knew what gluten was. I would have to put myself on that list of people. Many restaurants have traditionally shied away from gluten-free items especially in the Italian food realm because it demands the entrée still be delicious and marketable despite being gluten-free. This creates a greater demand upon culinary skills and this restaurant absolutely nails it. Whether you are ordering pizza, pasta, or a sub, the menu items here are all consistently delicious. Beyond the pizzas my personal favorite is the meatball sub. The sauce is flavorful with just enough spice. If you're looking for a bit of diversity I would suggest trying the lunch buffet. If you're dining in there has been a fairly recent renovation which added a bar area and separated the dining room. The expansion was done nicely and the restaurant maintains its cozy atmosphere. Employees here are always gracious and do a great job. Erbelli's also takes pride in supporting the local community. Over the years I've seen collection jars for kids wanting to travel with school activities. I appreciate a locale that thinks about its community in addition to its own interests. Great job Erbelli's! Keep up the good work.

We almost turned around to search for somewhere else to eat when we pulled up to Erbelli's. It's situated in the middle of a strip mall, kind of in the middle of nowhere, in a slightly rural part of town, and had zero curb appeal. I assumed we'd walk in, see one or two plastic tables for two and leave. I am so, SO happy we didn't turn around! My only regret now is that I don't live closer. Erbelli's has the best pizza sauce and cheesy bread I've yet to try in my last 10 odd years in Michigan. Phenomenal. I couldn't get enough of the stuff. It's a must try. As for pizza, we went with a non traditional hot sauce pizza with jalapeños and chicken. It was good, but a little overwhelming. Quite frankly it just didn't compare to the cheesy bread and pizza sauce. I'd recommend a red sauce pizza instead. Service was very friendly but a bit slow, so make sure you leave a good amount of time if you're catching a show at the Wings Stadium. They also have a HUGE unique cocktail menu; my compadre loved her picks. Overall, this was a great find and I need an excuse to come back to Kalamazoo/Portage now to squeeze in a return visit!

See my review of the Stadium Drive for more info, but here are some differences with this location: I only have two problems with this location: the space is too small, to the point of it being uncomfortable at times to eat and enjoy the experience; and the sauce is cold for the lunch buffet. I know, a bit of complaining for such a great product, but that is the way it is. if they can buy the vacant land next door and expand to accommodate demand, this is easily a five star restaurant. yelp.com/biz/erbellis-ka…

4 TVs in the dining area showing sports and a TV for Keno. Fast friendly service and good food. I had the 8 dollar sub that was stuffed with meats and veggies on a zesty bun. (Cheese and herbs). Food was plated nicely with a generous portion or oregano sprinkled over the plate and sub. On the table were 2 shakers. 1 for red pepper and 1 for oregano. Only complaint was that the sub was toasted and the meat in the inside was still cold. Didn't complain because of the amount of meat that you get you can see why it would be still cold. My wife had the baked ziti and she said I was very good. She enjoyed the sausage meat instead or plain hamburger meat you usually get. It was also plated nicely with a sprinkle of oregano around the plate. We didn't sit in the bar area but I could see another 5 or more TVs in that area. Over all the experience was good. Would definitely come back and try something else.

This is the first time we have visited. Only a short hop from home, about 65 miles. After a prolonged period we chose an Erbelli's house deluxe 14" the in-house pizza sauce was slightly sweet which is rare in the pizza construction business. The Wife and I found it exceptionally good. The pie also had pepperoni, ham, onions, fresh sliced mushrooms, diced green peppers and double mozzarella. We had the thin crust as to not overwhelm the generous toppings. The beer was ice cold perfect for a warm Summer afternoon. We were surprised to learn when we returned home that this shop was awarded the 2015 NewsChannel 3 best pizza in it's viewing area. We will be certain to return cause we have a 8 page menu to eat our way through and we we will also have to check out their other facility on Stadium Drive. I repeat my tip: "Get there early". Our wait gal Tiffany G. Was a keeper. She was helpful & patient with first timers. She was friendly, enthusiastic, & above all, attentive to our every need.

By far the best pizza i've had in Michigan- ive went with a couple differnt options but have to admit the Chicago style deepdish is my favorite. If you want to try something new grab the pulled pork nachos just be carefull to save some room for the main course because you get lot of chips topped with pulled pork..

Probably the most enjoyable pizza in the area and doesn't even compare to the "fast food" pizzas places that are literally everywhere. The dining room is relatively compact, especially for a place with a buffet at lunch but because the food never disappoints, it is worth bumping into, or getting bumped into by other patrons. I'd have to think about it, but I can't say that I have ever had a bad server here either. Most of the staff are young adults that really seem to enjoy their jobs. I suspect that the management treats the staff well because of the demeanor that everyone has here. Plan on taking home some leftovers for later if you order a big pizza and Erbie bread because you probably won't be able to put it all away in one sitting.

My favorite gluten free pizza! Service is always fast. When my family comes visit they insist on coming here. Their regular pizza always looks phenomenal and it's reasonably priced.

One of the biggest things I miss most since moving to Texas is Erbelli's pizza. As you drive up to Erbelli's, passing abandoned gas stations and a myriad of random business you begin to wonder, can this be any good? I once judged this book by it's cover and opted not to try out Erbelli's. It wasn't until a year later I gave it a shot, and looking back, it could be one of my worst missed opportunities. I've been a loyal customer now for about 7 years, which is saying a lot as my standards are quite high. I've never had a pizza from them that was bad, or had food delivered that wasn't what I ordered. Not a single time in the easily 50+ times I've eaten there. Food: I've had their pizza, erbbie bread and wings both at the restaurant and delivered. I can't tell the difference. Their pizza options are almost endless but my personal favorite is pepperoni, bacon and pineapple (nothing too fancy here). Hands down they have my favorite marinara sauce so I always order extra. It must be popular, because when I was there a couple of weeks ago the server told me that I could now buy it by the pint! Service: I mostly had the food delivered and they were always within the time they estimated on the phone, even once when there was a foot of snow on the ground (I tipped the driver an extra $5 for being a trooper). Again, the food was always what I ordered, which seems to be hard for most food delivery places these days. Service at the restaurant has always been attentive and on the ball. Overall: I wish there were some negatives I could think of just to balance out my review, but I can't say that I remember any. I can say though that any time I visit Michigan I make sure to stop at Erbelli's at least once.

I came here while visiting my brother in Kalamazoo, and I was blown away by the pizza. We ordered the "Chicken Mushrella," which has a pizza sauce base, marinated chicken, fresh mushrooms & mozzarella cheese. We also got an order of the breadsticks (TO DIE FOR!) Erbelli's actually has a great beer selection, and delicious martinis as well. My only complaint (personal complaint, this is not the restaurants fault!) is that the table sitting behind us had 4 kids with them. One of the kids definitely pooped his pants. I'm glad I was finished eating at that point because it was foul to sit there and smell. The parents casually continued eating their meal as if nothing happened. I can't wait to go back and try another pizza! (minus the poopy kid)

still a huge fan of their pizza, but the other night i ordered one of their calzones and was pretty disappointed. it was flat & flimsy and was not over-endowed with filling. For the amount i recieved the price was somewhat outlandish, even for Erbellis which i expect to be a little more expensive. I hope their pizza does not follow suit! I'd say for future reference, stick with their pizzas.

SO GOOD! More money than we would normally spend on Pizza, but every once in a while we splurge and enjoy it so much!

Caveat: This applies to food and delivery only. I didn't dine in. Great food. Professional, chipper, friendly delivery dude. A great alternative to going out after a long day on the road. Local flavor at its best with a great staff to bring it to me. Win win. I ordered the garlic cheese bread with a small pizza with Italian meats. It arrived hot and fresh - as if it had just left the oven and walked across the restaurant. The highest points: beautiful, perfect crust, flavorful sauce, and copious toppings. Leftovers made for a great breakfast on the road, too. I wholeheartedly endorse it, at least for delivery.

Good golly the pizza's good. Also a little pricey, in comparison to all the "$10 deals" going around at all the big chains. But those pizzas have nothing on Erbellis. Seriously. The erbbie bread is phenomenally good, I could eat the biggest one by myself. Their toppings are all delicious, they'll pretty much work with whatever you want, and they've got great service. We typically get carryout rather than dine-in or delivery, but a while ago we got delivery and it was totally the wrong pizza. We called back, hoping they'd at least make us a new pizza for no charge. Well, they did that, but also came back and delivered the new one. I was super impressed! Maybe that's standard for a delivery order, but I thought it was great.

Magnificent. Absolutely magnificent food and service. The menu is HUGE and unique but at no loss to quality. I fell in love with Erbelli's about 9 years ago when I lived around the corner on the lake and since moving to Virginia I eat at Erbelli's at least once on every trip back. Tonight we ordered take out to eat with Mom, and didn't realize we had the wrong order until we opened it at home. In a two minute phone call, the situation was fixed and the correct pizza was on the way and at the door very quickly. Erbelli's will always remain one of my favorites, and tonight's experience just reinforces that!

This place seems to be a gold mine so obviously they are doing something right. Big menu so I can't say I've even tried 50% of it. Personally I don't like thier pizza, the crust is way to doughy. I don't care for Super thin crust. The sauce is way to sweet as well. As far as thier Erbi bread it's awesome and I've had a couple of the pastas that I like. Can't say as I care for the subs either.

We love Erbelli's. It's a staple for a Friday night when I first arrive at Kalamazoo after a 2 hour drive. I've never had a bad meal there, whether it's a sub, a calzone, pasta, or pizza (regular crust and deep dish). There's something about their pizza sauce that makes it so difficult to choose something that doesn't have this delicious sauce in/on it. Erbelli's is famous for the Q-It-Up chicken. It's their spicy grilled chicken. Not everyone can handle how hot it is, but I love it because it's very spicy. The Fire Chicken Pasta is one of my favorites because it comes with the Q-It-Up chicken, it really adds a kick to the dish. You can also substitute regular chicken with Q-It-Up. The Erbie bread (cheese bread) is amazing with the pizza sauce, just remember to ask for the sauce when you order the bread or else they won't bring it. It does take awhile to have your food delivered, but it's worth every minute of the wait. Of course, you can go pick it up at the restaurant. And, if it happens that your food isn't ready yet, you can always sit down at the bar and have a drink. It's a win-win situation, if you ask me.

I heard about this please through friends and it was definitely worth trying it out! As far as deep dish pizza in kalamazoo this place is great! My wife is from the chicago area and most chicago style pizza doesnt compare but Erbellis deep dish was delicious and closer to REAL chicago style than any other places in Kalamazoo, MI. Also, the cheese sticks are loaded with cheese :) and i dont think you can ever have too much cheese. We will definitely be going back! It was packed when we arrived so we had to wait a little bit to be seated but still worth it.

I came here recently while visiting my Dad. I grew up in Portage, just down the street from this place, too bad it wasn't around back then. We went there on a Sunday night and the place was pretty busy, which is usually a good sign. The place is fairly small with both booths and tables and a very small outdoor seating area. We were seated right away and the service was pretty good. I really enjoyed the pizza (original crust), the crust was just the right thickness and consistency and the toppings were really good. I definitely recommend the "Q it Up" fire chicken. It's got a little kick, not much, but enough to have some flavor. And the sauce is very good, rich and tasty. Overall, they make a very good pizza! The menu is very large with a lot of options. I would definitely go back!

Another gluten free place for me to eat when I am home in Mi. If you like pizze sauce make sure you ask for extra, they can get stingy on the sauce. Pick up is easy and they are quick.

I've been going here for years, and I love it. Great food--we love their pizza, Erbbie bread, subs, lasagna, and garlic bread. It is a little on the expensive side, but you do get a lot of food. Online ordering is great, though we did have some issues with it in the beginning. You can even add in special instructions on each item. We order from them at work every now and then, as well, and they give a pretty big discount for large orders. The last one we put in was just over $200, and the manager called about ten minutes after I placed the order (online, before they opened, to be delivered at noon) to let me know that the total was actually going to be 25% less than what the order had said. Score! Minus one star for home delivery. No matter where I've lived in their delivery area, it always takes an hour or more to get our food. It takes me about ten minutes to get there, so I typically choose to pick it up myself. If you're into that sort of thing, they also deliver beer and wine.

I wrote a review 5 years ago I see, and gave three stars, and I don't see a way to edit that. I would give it 5 stars now as they've definitely corrected the issues we had those years ago with regularly having the wrong thing delivered to us. We always get what we expect here. It is expensive pizza, but it's really good, so if you're in the mood for really good pizza and are prepared to spend a bit for it, go here. If you're looking for cheap pizza, this isn't the place. And there are some other good locally owned pizza places nearby. Not quite as good, but much less expensive.

This place used to serve the BEST pizza I'd ever tasted. Then the recession hit, and they started charging more and more for both the pizza and the delivery, and at the same time, their quality inexplicably went down. Then they turned the restaurant into a pub, and the whole feel of the place changed. It's not bad, just not unique or appealing (to me) anymore. We went from buying Erbelli's at least once a week to maybe once a year, if that. Too expensive and not that special.

My second review as i go there quite often .And Ive increased to 3 stars. Got the xlarge thin crust hand tossed pizza with sausage and pepperoni. Toppings were a little light, but the pizza overall was tasty. Somewhat Spicy pizza sauce as usual. Used the online ordering for the first time and the pizza was ready on time!! YAY!!! Have had it late a few times in the past. I am confused as to why I entered my credit card info(as I had to go find my wallet) and then had to provide and pay again. Would like it to work properly if I prepay when I order. Was able to enter customized instrux online so that is good.

Overpriced heartburn. We have pizza regularly from several places in town. We will never order from here again. Too expensive. Mediocre food at best.

Overall this is a yummy place to grab to Italian. Pizza is good; garlic bread is really good, huge menu, and friendly staff. That said, I would stay away from any cream based pasta sauce. It was sad a low point. It had an awful consistency (think Elmer's Glue) and tasted like it had been poured right out of a can. I can make a cream sauce, it's not hard nor does it taste like nasty. Otherwise I would give them five stars, especially with their new bar.

  • Nick C.

Everything on the menu has been great. I've been multiple times and try something different everytime I go. If you haven't ever had it, get the Erbie bread with pizza dipping sauce and you'll never want to be without it. Their combination of herbs and spices on a pizza crust are awesome! The Chicago style pizza is pretty good as well. It's very filling. They also have a lunch buffet. It's a good place to try their salads, breadsticks, pasta and pizza. Don't forget that they have cookies and brownies for dessert.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
