Catered in Papa Vino's for company gathering. Well... UGH! Sloppy mush. Worst cannoli I ever tried. Salad was fresh enough but the ranch dressing sucked. Haven't had Italian this bad since I f'ed up and burnt a pot of Chef Boyardee Ravioli.

Great for large groups, went here with about 30+ coworkers for a celebratory lunch. Staff was great, there were a couple late and couple double orders, but can't really blame them with such a large group. The food was just standard fare though. The bread was a bit bland. Penne Carbonara sauce wasn't too runny or thick, but also lacked flavor. The salads that people around me were having seemed more appetizing. Overall, OK food, and would keep it as an option for any large gathering.

This place is close to where I work and for some reason, people keep suggesting we go there. Maybe they have taste bud deficiencies. Most recently we went to Papa Vino's when one of our colleagues had left the company and we hosted a going away party for him. We had about 17 people in our group. The normally slow service at Papa Vino's went from slow to glacial. I ordered a meat lasagna, which is usually a safe choice for a bad Italian restaurant. But Papa Vino's managed to destroy the lasagna. It came with hard edges to the noodles and the meat sauce was not particularly meaty. I come from the east coast where meat lasagna means it has thick slices of sausage in between the layers or thick chunks of meat. This was vegetarian lasagna with a sauce that had a hint of meat. The salad dressing was sweet and thick and the salad itself was the bagged supermarket variety. The food here will sustain life and can be put into petri dishes to grow mold spores, but I would not recommend this place to anyone that loves Italian food.

I enjoy Italian food and Papa Vino's is close to my house. It seems like a restaurant I wouldn't frequent often. Unfortunately as much as I enjoy the food, the service leaves a lot to be desired. On a Sunday afternoon we usually wait for a server to notice us because there never seems to be a hostess. Once seated it can be a while before you see a server even if you're the only table in the whole restaurant. When you do finally get someone to wait on you the attitude always feels as though you are putting them out. The food is excellent when dining in. My husband works and we always bring him home a take out meal. Whoever packs the carryouts is always inconsistent. Sometimes the sides are huge and sometimes they are packed in a small container. The quality is always great but quantity is inconsistent every time.

A slightly more upscale Olive Garden. But who are we kidding. . . . I love Olive Garden! "When you're here, You're Family!" I'm not going to lie, initially my family and I were going to go to the Rusty Bucket for craft beer and a cheap-ish dinner but the parking lot was packed and we succumbed to this old place around the corner from their house. It's cheap, pretty tasty, and the wine is adequate. Mom was having a moment and demanded we buy an entire bottle. Which I am always fine with. I don't understand the complaints with the service. We were served pretty well but the restaurant was also pretty damn near empty for a Friday night. We were presented with a large soft baguette of bread and olive oil mixed with fresh garlic. My dad had a Goose Island and my brother a Sam Adams Octoberfest. The rest of us downed a bottle of a surprisingly delicious light red cabernet called 14 Hands from the fine state of Washington. Very drinkable and under $30. For appetizers we split an order of calamari and crab stuffed mushrooms. Calamari was better than expected. Not chewy and light breading. Stuffed mushrooms were fully loaded with both cheese and copious amounts of crab meat (not sure if it was the freshest); but they were pretty enormous. I sampled pretty much everyone's entrée. Glutton, Fatty. Can't help it. It's pasta, come on. I personally ordered the Linguini Pescatore. Debated for a long time over whether I should go with that or linguini with clams but I'm glad I went with my pick. The mussels on it were enormous. Huge chunks of meat in each one and accompanied along with jumbo shrimp. The shrimp may have been slightly overcooked but it was permissible. The sauce was slightly spicy with red chili pepper flakes adorning the light tomato and wine butter sauce but I liked that element to the dish. Mom had the chicken cannelloni. She loved it and ate the entire thing. Which is great because Mom hasn't been eating pretty much at all. Cannelloni is very much like Manicotti but stuffed with more ricotta and cheese and covered in an alfredo parmesan based sauce. Decadent stuff. Also the best of all of the dishes I think. Dad had the wild mushroom fettuccini - made with Portobello and shitake shrooms in a rich garlic cream sauce. Sister had the rigatoni with braised beef. She thought her dish was a little too salty. Maybe so but the beef was incredibly tender and went well with the dollops of goat cheese. My brother had their sausage and pepper personal sized pizza. He said it was better tasting than most crappy restaurants in the area for pizza so I'll give Papas that. But I'd personally go for their pasta dishes as opposed to trying their steak or pizza. Papa's is always a good go to restaurant when you can't find anything better and you don't want pretentious Bloomfield Hills $40 steak on a silver platter. It's serious food coma good eating.

Great restaurant! I was recommended this place by the desk receptionist at the nearby hotel I'm staying. She was right! The bread is delicious and the main course was the best I've had in a long time. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Great atmosphere. I will definitely be back. I recommend the Chicken Parmesan. Very delicious!

This was the only restaurant next to my Hotel when I went on my business trip. Not knowing anyone in the area, i just decided have dinner here both nights. I sat at the bar and ordered and had their sizzling pasta dish. The portion was quite large and the food was pretty damn delicious. Although the restaurant was pretty busy, the bartender was extremely courteous and friendly. I don't order mixed drinks so when i order a scotch on the rocks and the scotch is filled to the brim, I'm a happy camper. I

Awful... Bread is ridiculous, calamari was so chewy and rubber, had the mushroom fettuccine, no flavor profile, taste awful. I asked to have the one television, the only television they have, to put on espn, bartender said sure but she did not know how to change the channel, 35 minutes later she gave me the remote, did not work, never got the channel. Heard one waiter/bartender curse twice and the bartender curse once. Even the peppermint candy was cracked on the way out the door. Go next door to the Marriott to eat. I will never go back.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was looking for a quick lunch with a client and this place was convienent. It was a business lunch, and it wasn't very crowd, maybe a third full, but it's a pretty big place. We both actually went with the soup and salad, I had the Papa's and tomato soup. Each were very large lunch portions, and I guess was all you can eat, but if you can get 2nds after these portions, then you can eat (or have access to nap area after lunch). The soup was hearty and the salad was an interesting blend of romane lettuce, bacon and blue cheese. Service was fine and the menu is rather deeper of typical Italin fare. I think this place is better then the olive garden (not a high bar), in that the salad wasn't swimming in dressing. But it's hard to mess up salad and soup.

Food is mediocre, but about what you'd expect from a chain place like this. The house salad is really good though! The food would be about 2 starts, but the service is what brings it down to 1. Our servers was very gloomy, didn't keep up with beverages and worst of all was very unhelpful with a couple basic questions we had about the menu. Simple questions, that if she didn't know the answer to could have been easily answered by a cook. Won't be going back.

Standard chain restaurant and for those who have been to other Papa Vino's it's probably about the same as other locations. The service is good, but slow when it's busy. The interior is pretty clean and nice. Surprisingly little listed as vegetarian or vegan, almost non existent compared to other chains.

We are visiting from California and went here tonight because it was close to our hotel. Wow, we all loved our food! We ordered eggplant parm, manicotti, chicken fettuccine alfredo, chicken pesto pizza with bacon and spinach, entree chicken salad and spaghetti with meat sauce. Everyone came close to finishing their huge portions and the bread with roasted garlic and oil was a great free starter. What a great start to my dining experience on my trip.

OMG, I love the Papa's salad..I just can't get enough of this. It's absolutely amazing how delicious it is. I was just there on Saturday and had that and the BBQ Chicken pizza...yum yum. My waiter was awesome and fun (Saul) and I had a great time. My bill was super cheap and the glass that my wine came in was big and it was filled at least 3/4 of the way. The bread and dipping sauce they give you to snack on was good as well. This is a great place to bring a date for sure or for a girl's night out. I so recommend!

Honestly, I was not expecting much from Papa Vino's-- I mean, it's a chain restaurant. As we arrived, a waitress quickly took our drink orders. Within a few minutes, she arrived with them. I think the glass must have slipped or something, but she ended up spilling ice water all over our table. But everyone makes mistakes, right? She cleaned it up quickly and apologized, and replaced the brown paper table cover. I noticed there were several large food stains on the white tablecloth underneath. The food was mediocre. There was free bread and olive oil for dipping. I didn't really like the bread that much, it was not warm and did not crackle like I usually like my bread. The spinach and artichoke dip was very heavy and creamy, the garlic bread to go with it was a little too greasy. However, I enjoyed the calamari! I ordered a lasagna marinara, I wasn't feeling particularly adventurous that night. It was okay. The shells definitely were out of a box and it was really.. Chewy. The ricotta and mozzarella in the lasagna, plus the Parmesan cheese they grated for me was bland and did not really taste like anything. The marinara was tasted like it was from a can. The people I went with went with a chicken penne with broccoli, linguine pescatore, spaghetti with meatballs, vegetable primavera, and clam linguine. Everyone said their dish was just meh. My dad seemed to enjoy his linguine pescatore, however. We finished off our meal with an Italian chocolate cake and two cannolis. Nothing too special. You would probably be better off at Olive Garden for the prices here. At least they have free salad and better bread. The prices were little bit high for the price it probably costed to make the dish. If you're looking for an authentic Italian place, this place is definitely not for you.

Excellent Italian food and great service were our impressions from our first visit but destined not to be our last. Your pleasant waitress greets you with herb garlic olive oil and a long loaf of warm bread. My sautéed tilapia with capers and artichoke hearts in a lemon butter sauce was perfectly cooked and tasted superb. My husband had a beef penne dish that he was very happy with. Prices were very reasonable, and and it was an enjoyable lunch.

My daughter ordered her steak medium well, but received rare/medium rare. She decided she liked it that way. Even though I ended up saying nothing, our waiter came over & commented that the steak was far too pink. I told him it worked out, but he sent the manager to us anyway who picked up our desert as a way of apologizing even though I assured him we were ok. Turns out, my daughter was up half the night throwing up. I have to take a star for that. Had her steak been properly handled, and/or cooked to her request, I believe she would have avoided the illness that followed. My shrimp penne carbonara was perfection, as was the Italian wedding soup. Atmosphere was delightful, subtle background music, and murmur of activity without being too loud & active.

Papa Vino's is an excellent option for Marriott guests. I frequently eat there when I travel to Pontiac. They have a variety of traditional dishes and I get a good meal every time. This time I ordered takeout after a long day of travel. It was ready on time and was excellent. The waiters and waitresses are always courteous. If you are alone they will provide faster service so you can be in and out relatively fast, but they never rush you. If you try Papa Vino's you will be back.

Just got back from here ... I've been a few times and it's consistently good. I ordered the rigatoni for lunch and we had tiramisu for dessert, both of which were huge and delicious. You can't beat their lunch specials either, they have ten under $6 and the rest are $10 or less. Comes with pretty much all the bread and olive oil you can eat, too.

This is absolutely one of my favorite places, and most of the people I know have never been there. The restaurant is rarely busy during my visits, kind of a bonus since I hate the crowded feeling you get from a Olive Garden. I've never been disappointed with the food or service, the Chicken Parmesan is the best.

This Papa Vino's has been a staple in my family's restaurant circuit since it opened. However, I'm not really sure why, since the last few times we've been have been pretty disappointing. The calamari is generally pretty good, but every entree is really huge and terribly unhealthy. They don't have any reasonable vegetarian options. All the sauces are extremely heavy and creamy, and I always come away feeling kind of gross. Probably going to veto the next time the fam wants to head here for dinner.

Just went there this past Saturday night for dinner and the place was dead. Maybe it was due to the Lions playoff game??? Despite the thin dinner crowd the service was painfully slow. I had to ask for coffee twice before she finally brought it over (with my food not beforehand.) I could tell the waitress was new. When I asked her to help me narrow down my top 3 choices, she began to tell me the ingredients of each dish even though I asked her what's the most popular dish out of those 3. Little did she know that I'm an accomplished cook so I knew every ingredient of their dishes. (She didn't even describe them correctly anyways!) Oy vey. I ordered the goat cheese appetizer with crostini. It was okay but nothing to write home about. My husband liked the Italian Wedding soup. He ordered chicken marsala for dinner with angel hair pasta. The sauce was good (tasted home made) but the breading on the chicken tasted like freezer so I could tell the chicken breast was frozen. The pasta was definitely from a box. My dish was actually very good. I ordered the baci and prosciutto with caramelized leeks. I wanted more crunch so I ordered a side of Italian vegetables and mixed it in. My pasta and sauce tasted home made and was delicious. It still irritates me that soup and salad is a la carte. If I'm spending 12 bucks on a pasta dish that costs 5 bucks to make, at least throw a small side salad my way! This is why I love and prefer Carrabbas. I just wish they had one closer to Royal Oak.

Mostly my experience there should've counted as average. It was mostly fine. And I will add that the bread was marvelous. But, dang it; I don't know if the cook lacks a nose or their management is bad; but I got food poisoning! I'm one of those people who never send back food. My bad. I shouldn't be like that. Especially since I could actually smell that the shrimp had turned. The sauce was so tasty, and I was so hungry, and I was such an idiot, though, that I ate it anyway and regretted it all night long.

ooooooooooohhhhhhhh... when i tell you that the food was nasty i mean NASTY. I sure wish i was dine in and not carry out because i would have walked the dish back to the kitchen and just asked for my money back. It was terrible. Whatever you do, do not order the RIGATONI AL FORNO. If you want that, go get a lean cuisine pasta dinner and add Alpo. I know that a lot of dishes are not made from scratch but thie smelled of preservatives. Gross... Gross... Gross.

Nothing special. On par with Olive Garden. I went here on a double date and had the gnocchi and it didn't fill me up or taste particularly good. It isn't worth the money when there are plenty of other quality Italian eateries.

We are Papa Vino fans in Northville but have now been to this location 5 times. It has been pretty disappointing in the food and service but as I waiting in the car in front of the doors for my wife to get carryout, I noticed that the lights by the door had not been cleaned for 32 years, the Christmas lights should have been tossed long ago and the leaves had never been cleaned out. This all made me think about how unclean the inside may be....hmmm?

I have gone more than once here when in need for a quick Italian fix--mainly because of the proximity to my home. In short, it has the appeal of a more upscale Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill--which is nice when you want to go somewhere and have good food without feeling like you should be expecting mediocre meals. The problem is that the atmosphere just doesn't quite live up to the meal. With such a charming layout, it's a shame that service can be slow, and the food can be just about average, I, too, was not a huge fan of bread in a paper bag (and no, it doesn't ring "authentic" to me). The dipping olive oil was just missing something... Calamari to start was a really large portion, even when ordered the smaller portion for two. It was easily a B grade experience. It didn't miss the mark, it just didn't make me want to eat more and more of it. I had crab pasta which in theory sounded delightful--and really, there was absolutely no problem with it at all--it just didn't blow my socks off. It was good--it filled me up. But, that's about it. I wasn't talking about it hours later. All in all, I understand that this is a chain restaurant--but it could try just a little harder to be a place where people come in and remember more than just the nice layout. The food is good--and you will not leave hungry--but in a couple of hours or the next day, you will not be craving that food experience again.

I love their hot bread! Their house wine taste like Gallo. I had the Tuscan Shrimp Salad. It tasted like how the rest of the country makes a salad: lots of dressing, poor lettuce option (ice berg), boring flavoring. So nothing special. The other dishes were similar. It's definitely not fine cuisine. It's good value for your money

Upscale fast food. They serve Wonder bread shaped like a baguette in a paper bag. Typical chain like The Olive Garden and the like. It's ok if you're stuck around the hotel and can't venture too far.

My sister (Amanda K. on Yelp) was recently married and my parents decided to throw her wedding at the Marriott which is adjacent to this Papa Vino's location. They decided to opt out of the Marriott's offer for the rehearsal dinner as Papa Vino's offered a much better price. While I would have wished for larger portions for some of their things, like the Italian vegetables, and for more vegetarian options, I was pleased with the quality of the food and the way the restaurant accommodated us. While we obviously had reserved space, I was surprised that we had nearly the entire restaurant and our party had well over 100 people. The eggplant parmesan was OK, a little too fried. The waiter for our table, Ramon, was very kind, however, the service was kind of slow. Given the party size, I don't blame them. I would definitely return. The dessert was delicious.

We took our 95 year-old friend to Papa Vino's last night to celebrate her return from a nursing home. The ladies had Cosmopolitan cocktails. I ordered a Jack Daniels Manhattan served in a cocktail glass. My drink arrived in a high-ball glass. When I called the waitress' attention to that fact, she returned with an under-sized cocktail glass with my Jack Daniels cocktail. Red-flag number one. We sipped our drinks, and agreed they were sub-par. Red-flag number two. When I called the waitress's attention to that fact, she shrugged and said, "I saw him mix the drinks. Sorry", and walked away. We then ordered the same dish: Rib-eye with Jumbo shrimp, accompanied by roasted potatoes and green beans. My wife ordered her rib-eye medium-well with a flash of pink. Our guest and I ordered our rib-eye medium-rare. The entrees arrived on cold plates. All of the rib-eye steak portions were over-cooked, as were the burnt, large (not Jumbo) shrimp. The meat was tough, and difficult to cut with a steak knife. Re-flag number three. Our least memorable meal in the last 14 years. And our last at Papa Vino's.

Better then olive garden but nothing great. The papa vino salad is a great house salad and the shrimp fra divola I had was tasty. I prob would not recommend this place but I would not stab a dagger in my heart if a group wanted to go.

I was hungry as a dog and just needed to eat. So The Man suggested Papa Vino's since it was close to the house. -Complimentary warm bread with olive oil, was OK, they could do without serving it in a paper sack. I'd rather have it sliced in a bread basket - I like the open kitchen so I can see what's going on with my food - Ordered Papa's Salad w/Tilapia. It was HUGE. very fresh lettuce, crisp bacon, just enough blue cheese, a few olives sprinkled about and the tilapia (2 pieces) was crispy on the outside, flaky and moist on the inside Served with the house dressing. It was filling, yet light. Great meal. Will def. go back.

I was also at Amanda K.'s wedding and the rehearsal dinner (hey Alexandra!) , and I unfortunately am going to take one star off the original 4 I was going to give them. Here's why: we all know that when the waiter offers you a taste of the bottle of wine that you ordered, usually it's a formality before you accept the damn bottle anyway. Butnin our case, our tasters knew something was off. It didn't taste like a cabernet sauvignon, and that was what was ordered. Turns out, it wasn't. It was Merlot, which we didn't find out until he set the bottle down. Mistakes happen, I get that. But apparently the waiter (or manager of theplace, whoever) did not want to comp us for the mistake and said that they'll bring us the right bottle the next time around. Umm, no. None of us wanted Merlot. If we wanted Merlot, we would've asked for it. And since we were all sharing and trying to keep the cost down, we sent the bottle back and asked to be given the right one. I'm really, REALLY hoping they didn' t charge it to the bill for their mistake. I really want to like this place, because the food was actually pretty decent. The chicken picatta was yummy. The pasta alfredo was bland, but that might just be me. I really liked the pizza appetizer they brought out, and the bread was good (would've like a brad basket instead of those paper sleeves, but oh well). Too bad that little trick to make ppl pay for the wine their guests didn't order made the experience somewhat sour.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
