Beautiful setting, mediocre food to be honest. 45 minute wait for below par food. Nice wait staff who kept apologizing, understaffed in the kitchen was what we were told, no excuse as this is their season

DO NOT order food here. Great venue for a drink, server was very kind, but we waited an hour and a half for the worst food I have ever eaten. The description on the menu sounded amazing, what I ate tastes like it came out of a can. "Homemade" is a complete fabrication.

Awesome location, clean and relaxing! Food sucks-nothing else to say on that. Bartenders are extremely non attentive and I have waited several minutes to even be asked if I would like another. This place is begging for a new menu and cooks/chef that knows how to put out good food.

Great location, good service and some of the food is good. Had lunch and ordered wings and Greek Salad. Wings were very good but was disappointed by the Greek salad. This was like no other salad I've ever had. Very poor.

My family and I waited 2 and a half hours for a crappy meal. My wife got food poisoning from undercooked chicken. We have been loyal customers for years, but will never go back.

Excellent artichoke spinach dip with really unique pita chips - yep. Well prepped Caesar salad with the perfect amount of dressing -yep. Parmesan encrusted Lake Michigan whitefish - yep. Cool atmosphere overlooking Grand Traverse Bay and the Bay Harbor yacht basin -yep. But just about the worst service with the slowest kitchen and untrained bussers too young to shave ? This poor level of staff training doesn't fit with really good food overlooking some of natures finest work. I feel sorry for the chef. His great kitchen work keeps getting low marks online because his wait staff isn't trained. It's not fair to him. Oh yeah, and when my drink is made by the waitress not to my liking and I ask it to be remade and I try to offer a polite suggestion that she uses an Old Fashioned glass, please don't argue with me that you don't have any...cause when I looked around I saw others had drinks in Old Fashioned glasses. So good food, great views of the Lake, but overall...knot!

Nice location with outdoor tables overlooking the boat docks. Pretty poor after that. A grilled cheese made with such spicy cheese it was inedible, that being said from a spicy food lover. Fourth person in our party did not receive their entree until the rest of us were almost done. Despite discussing the above with our waiter there was no offer of taking the grilled cheese off the bill or a free drink due to the delayed entree. Poor training of the server earned this place the 1 star review,

Nice bar, staff, and food. Sat at the bar, bartender attentive, got drinks quick. Ordered meal, wife had seafood chowder said it was very good, I had the chicken sandwich which was delish with their chips. Prices reasonable for location, will be back.

This restaurant is "not" just a bar, it's a great place for the view. On the other hand, the service is horrendous. The waitress we had was slow. Diners can view into the kitchen and the staff just stands around chatting. Our waitress kept forgetting to bring things such as our drinks we ordered and also kept forgetting to check on us. Plus, the workers didn't seem to want to be there. News Flash People, you chose to work there. The food was okay not spectacular. It seemed like regular bar food.

Horrible service. We have had 3 bad experiences in a row. The servers don't know what they are doing and don't even care. Waited 25 minutes to get in, 15 minutes for water, 15 minutes for appetizers, she forgot one of the appetizer (never apologized) no silverware, forgot one of our meals after we waited over 30 minutes to come, and then waited 15 minutes for the meal she forgot! (Never an apology) everything was just a hassle. I took a group of 6 girls there for a bachelorette party dinner, every single girl was upset and it ruined the night. We mentioned our experience to someone out on the lake the next day- they agreed that this place is horrible. Take your money elsewhere and save your time! This place is getting a bad reputation.. Perhaps they need new management?

This review is a bit late but I'll add it anyway. I went here a few times in the span of a few days while on a work trip. The drinks were fine and I enjoyed them. And the atmosphere is great with an awesome view of Bay Harbor! However, the last night I was there I shared spinach and artichoke dip with some coworkers and we all got sick from it later that night. Whether it was not properly cooked or someone preparing it was sick I'm not sure, but we know it wasn't alcohol because no one else got sick and we were the only 3 to eat that exact dish. Just a word of warning for the future.

I took my sons and a few friends here on a Thursday night. We had a short wait for a table outside so the host took my number and we went off to walk the dock. After a brief wait we got the call that our table was ready. Then everything went downhill fast. We ordered an appetizer and drinks right away and dinner within 10 minutes of being seated. Drinks came right away, appetizer took about 30 minutes to arrive. The waiter told us "sorry, someone else snagged your appetizer". After being told numerous times that our food was almost ready the waiter apologizes and says he will send the manager over. When she arrives she decides to argue with me over how long we have been waiting. She says our order went in 35 minutes ago but I look at my phone and we were seated 70 minutes ago. Another ten minutes go by and our food shows up. Of course, it's cold. Then she brings us cupcakes as a peace offering and my son bites in to one and it's frozen! Plenty of good restaurants in the area so don't go here.

Do they have great fried pickle chips or what?! It will seriously come out within 5 minutes of ordering with a great cup of homemade ranch. I particularly love the bloody mary here, made with chipotle-infused vodka, served with a snit (beer chaser). Mm-mmm gooooood! I've only had lunch here- good soups, typical bar-fare sandwiches. Service- on slow days, the bartenders are very nice and they will chat with you! On other days- nothing special or overly nice. Ambiance: personally, I think it looks WAY cooler outside than it does inside. When I first got inside, I was disappointed as I was excepting something abit more "bay harbor" and nautical. The copper bar tops are cool, but it seems very divey inside.

Pros: - Open Late (past 10pm) when NOTHING stays open in downtown Petoskey - Good seafood chowder - Nice view of the harbor / Outdoor seating Cons: - Average bar food - Overpriced appetizers - Weird music / vibe at night (We went at 10:30 on Monday and they were blaring heavy metal and rap music when it was pretty much empty, save for a few seniors in the corner. Were you trying to kick them out or is this the "club scene" in Bay Harbor? Dislike either way.

I was impressed. Dont know whats up with some of the shotty feed back on here. The Cod was amazing. Cooked perfect and excellent breading. Mahi Tacos were also very impressive. Flavorful and fish was grilled perfect. The Carrot cake was moist and decadent. I will come back here. Give em a try

  • Eric S.

The view is by far the best feature. Food average at best. The cod is good but everything else bland and pricy for what you get.

KNOT GOOD!!! In fact, it was awful! Everything about this place is knot good except for the view. I'll give them that. We took a boat over on October 12th for lunch. We had never been there before but someone told us you can tie up dock side and have a decent lunch and a cocktail. I only wish I had checked the yelp reviews first. This was probably the last truly warm day of the year, 77 degrees with sunshine and a light breeze. We asked to sit outside and the manager said "no." Almost everyone who walked in asked the same question and were told, "no." I should have just left at this. The 20 something year old manager is simply LAZY and not good at his job. Why would you not let people sit on the deck? The tables were there the seats were there and it's not like this is white linen dining service. What a joke. We ordered fish tacos a hot dog and the goat cheese salad. I wish they would have said something about the goat cheese being deep fried on the menu. This salad was straight up disgusting. The spinach was slimy, the goat cheese was fried but the breaking wasn't colored or browned up at all and the fish tacos smelled and tasted like rotten carp. Barf. I poked at my spinach, ate one half of one of my goat cheese rounds and called it quits. The raw carrots that came with the hotdog were slimy and some had brown spots on them. Rather than get worked up and deal with the weak knee'd joke of a manager and wreck my day, I decided it was best to pound my crappy sweet and sour mixed margarita and get outta dodge. This place is terrible. Terrible service, terrible food and a terrible margarita. Avoid at all costs, you've been warned.

Worst restaurant food I've ever had. Easy review- best view, awful food. Stick with cocktails. Not even desert was good... Waste of prime location

Bay Harbor is beautiful in the summer and Knot Just a Bar is the perfect place to sit outside on the patio and check out all the beautiful boats and amazing estates. Be sure to grab your shades as the sun can be very bright and there is not a ton of shade. One of the most popular and tasty dishes on the menu is perch and fries that is served in a paper cone. If you are looking for something healthier, the salads are good as well. Of course if you are sitting on the patio you will need a cold beverage. I was surprised last time I was there that I tried to order an Oberon, Blue Moon and Bud Lite Lime (or any lime beer) and they had none of them. They do have the Petoskey Brewing Co. "Horny Monk" beer on draft, which is a bit heavy but not bad. If you are a Bloody Mary fan their's is pretty good. It's served with a small beer on the side. I'm not that surprised to read the mediocre reviews. I think it could be so much better than it is. The service seems really hit or miss... it's outstanding or terrible. There is a really good, attentive server (a brunette lady with a southern accent) who we are always happy to see walk up to our table. It's still worth the visit if you are in the area. Just order a bloody mary and enjoy the view!

alright service. very small beer selection for being near some great breweries. food was meh. it seemed very corporate and like there was little care when making the food. for being in the middle of such a upscale community, i thought it would be nicer. love, juston

  • G H.

Food was just ok. Hostess did not want to set us outside, but did so unwillingly. Fish tacos - not good. Waitress was good.

Good food, good drinks. Service was pretty good and the view was great. Enjoyed sitting outside. Can't go wrong here.

  • Eric A.

Average at best. Good views but over priced for what you get. If you sit inside don't plan on talking. It is loud

    (3)
  • Jennifer D.

Our service was terrible. We sat for 15 minutes without anyone coming to ask for drinks or anything. Ten minutes after putting our orders in still no drinks. To top things off our waiter forgot to put in my boyfriends sandwich order. The chowder was good, but the service was the worst I've ever had.

The bar tenders are extremely rude. I will make this as brief as possible... Outline of events: -Call at 230PM and inform them approximately 50 people will be coming in at 1230AM after a wedding at the Inn at Bay Harbor. -Inform us they will stay open. -Arrive at said time to find them closing. -Bartenders begrudgingly agree to stay but are being very rude to our jubilant group. -TINA and the other rude girl (name unknown) decide its a good idea to stop putting alcohol in drinks when ordered ($8 cokes and $7 cranberry juices? I've paid less). -I call it to their attention VERY nicely and play it off as a possible mistake. -They inform me that if we want to complain they will close. -I say "excuse me"? -They kick me out. True story. I realize it sounds exaggerated but I swear it is the honest truth. I wouldn't spend another red cent in this establishment ever again. Customer's always wrong I guess...

Knot is a fun vacation bar with a gimmick. The food is mediocre at best and the beer selection is decent. They have a great view and usually ok service. They staff is hit or miss on quality. Some definitely care about repeat customers more then others. The food for the most part is fried items and they do not use very much of the local fish. Last time there my wife and I had the mahimahi fish tacos and they were tasty but not fresh fish. You go here for the view and ability to get your name on the wall for drinking.

Excellent food. Ordered the cod and fries hubby ordered Mahi tacos. Sat at the bar. Excellent service. We had dessert too. Brownie sundae was amazing carrot cake was some of the best we have had ever.

Knot IS just a bar, despite its name. However, comma, it's a bar with an awesome location and an even awesomer (sic) view, which makes it worth a visit when the weather is nice. The Perch Cone is a delicious indulgence, and the burgers and fish sandwiches are also quite tasty. Beer list is good, as are the drinks. Not much of a wine list, though that's to be expected - wine doesn't figure big into most bar menus. The desserts are HUGE and great for sharing. What makes the place cool is the chance to sit outside, looking at multi-million-dollar homes and yachts, and zillion-dollar sunsets over Little Traverse Bay, and watching kids play on the lawn in front. Go in looking for fine dining and you'll be disappointed. Go in looking for some tasty bar food and a fun experience, and you'll be happy! I'd give it 3.5 stars if Yelp's system allowed, BTW - fun place.

  • Casey L.

Worst name ever! The food here is ok - nothing special, mainly burgers and fried seafood. The decor is very nautical and kind of tacky. They do have a full bar and some flatsceens to watch the game on. Service was friendly and efficient.

  • P. M.

This is a maybe place to eat a YES place to watch boats and people. I have had food here too many times and have yet to come away with any "wow". The view is awesome the food is just ok. Go with LOW expectations and I bet you have a good time. The burgers are ok, fried food is their specialty in my mind. So I would rate it as a fast food like cuisine in an excellent setting. Salads are their weakness as they have no clue what they are doing, tasteless over chopped and believe it or not under dressed. Expect HIGH prices on drinks and yet another new way to charge you, a drink on the rocks comes with a $3.00 up charge? Have the guts to charge the $8.50 you want for a drink and save the games! So as you can tell I have a love hate relationship with this joint! Go for a cocktail and leave it at that!

I had a great meal here in 2009, and when I went back it seemed the menu had changed and the quality of the food drastically declined. When the place had good food it was great, this year, the food sucked and it wasn't such a great thing

    (2)
  • Laura P.

I've been here a couple of times, having spent most of my teenage years as a "Perma-fudgie" (I lived there, so I wasn't a Fudgie, but I wasn't born there, so I wasn't a "Local"). The food is way not worth the price as the prices are really between the $$ and $$$ ranges and the taste isn't anything to write home about. I suppose if you wanted to drink there, it wouldn't be half bad, but as Ron mentioned, there is the "timing" issue, as well as the added bonus of possibly nicking someone's Jag or Porsche.

This bar is ok! Nice bar staff! Good food! Great location right on Lake Michigan! Beautiful boats! Great view! Great sunsets!

We used to enjoy coming to the Knot years ago. The place has gone down steadily over the past few years. The food is actually awful, it's like they are trying to be bad. It's such a shame that a place with such a great location, serves low grade slop. I don't think they understand their customer base at all. People will gladly pay extra for a great meal in the Petoskey area. This place needs a major change.

  • Manda A.

The waitress was definitely over worked.. I ordered the chicken picatta it was rubber the broccoli was raw and a fry was hidden in my mash potato. The waitress did ask if something was wrong as my plate was full I told her and she said sorry I didn't cook it.. Didn't even take it off my bill!! 58 dollar bill and I'm going back to my resort hungry!!

  • Andrew B.

This is more of a 2.5 star but I'm giving it benefit of the doubt. Beer was good and cold. Views were great and outdoor seating was a great change of pace. Seated and served by very nice staff, no complaints when it came to them. The food is the reason for such a low score. For being in such a picky area, I would expect more. Coleslaw was bland, it was worse then if it had come out of a pre made jar. Pulled pork was dry and could have used a couple more things. Everything about the food was just boring.

    (2)
  • Liz R.

Not a place I would return to. The Caesar salad was drowning in dressing that was way too tart. The caprese salad had no basil, the tomatoes were raw, no bread was offered with it.

    (2)
  • Jaclyn R.

Awful service from the host to the food. And no, I'm not a hard person to please. Took 2.5 hrs for just my husband and I. Host was snotty and seemed annoyed to be at work. Food quality was low (coconut shrimp sauce was tasty). However, you can't beat the view.

    (1)
  • Andrew D.

Fantastic setting for a bar. Just skip the food. It's gross and overpriced. I ordered $20 stuffed trout; the cream-soaked veggies were overcooked and literally tasteless; the risotto was mush; the fish and crab were indistinguishable. Even my wife's French fries were mush. Sit outside and have drinks, and leave it at that.

Reasonably good food, and great service. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Knot Just a Bar is indicative of a Bay Harbor company trying to be laid-back (hence the moderate local crowd in addition to all the Fudgies). The staff is nice enough, but they don't really go out of their way to be helpful. Also, be cautious of arriving after 9pm Sun-Thu because their posted closing time is simply "'til we're done" and is based on their volume for the evening. I've made the drive to Bay Harbor to find the door locked before 10pm on multiple occasions. As mentioned by another reviewer, however, their food is "Knot" anything special. I tried several of their entrees and sandwiches, but was ultimately disappointed each time. I only go back because they have a decent beer selection and the decor is nice for a casual bar.

  • Shawna P.

I really liked this little place. It's quaint and a bit of romantic with being set on the water over looking million dollar homes. Food was a bit pricey but good. Drinks were average.

    (4)
  • Jackie B.

Ugh! Can I give a half a star! Service was HORRIBLE and unapologetic . My son ordered chicken wings that were RAW! The manager informed us we were wrong! "they aren't raw". The rest of the food was cold. When we said we wanted the check so we could leave, the table next to us informed the manager that their food was cold and awful also. Again, the manager was defensive instead of apologetic.

Although it claims it's "Knot" just a bar, that is really one of the only things it's good for. The food is nothing special-- typical bar fare (they do have good ranch). The crowd is quite the eclectic mix.. from hoity-toity country club fifty-year-old men (think of caddyshack's bushwood country club members), yuppie twenty-somethings (plaid Ralph shorts/popped collars), and surprisingly some local Petoskey flavor. the prep is not a surprise- this establishment is part of the Bay Harbor community (should be Petoskey, but Bay Harbor wanted their own area code-- to give you an idea). So this place sounds like a nightmare for most, but you know what really keeps me coming back? The Knot 69 Beer Club. They have a list with 69 beers on it that once consumed (obviously not in one night.. this isn't the 'ol 96er) you get your name painted on the wall. precious I know, but I am a sucker for this kind of commitment. Who doesn't like drinking with purpose?
