My only complaint for Casa Real is that its not close to my house!! Which is actually probably a good thing because I'd be here way too often! They have the best margaritas around and IMO truly authentic mexican food. I prefer Casa Real over Sagebrush any day.

It's awesome. The drinks are great and so is the food. Prices are good and the decor of the place gives it a wonderful touch. I love coming to this place every chance I get.

Chips & salsa were good and so were the margaritas. My Pollo Asado was rubbery and flavorless. My husband had 1 chorizo taco & 1 pork. Chorizo taco was better...pork was dry, but you can't beat $6 for 2 large tacos. Lots of kids running around in the bar, but margaritas and prices made it worth it.

My husband I love going here for a real Mexican dinner. The margaritas are wonderful, you can actually taste tequila. A great spot for dinner.

Casa Real is pretty tasty! Their chips and salsa are delicious. They strive to be more "authentic" Mexican than many other local joints. I am not well-versed in true Mexican cuisine, but what they offer is solid. My husband ordered the chicken enchilada dinner, which was very good. They red enchilada sauce had a nice heat to it that is unique. I ordered a chicken taco salad, which I previously ordered here a few years back and apparently forgot until it was delivered. I would not necessarily recommend their taco salad. It's essentially a large amount of their shredded chicken, topped with a very small amount of iceberg lettuce, a few tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream. Their chicken is delicious, the salad is just not what I think of when it comes to salad. :) Overall, though, I would return!

For my sister's bachelorette party we started off the night at Casa Real. BEST DECISION EVER!!! I chose Casa Real on a whim after going there for the first time and seeing that they had salsa lessons on Saturday nights. They were able to accommodate our party of 14 (I had made reservations in advance). The service was tremendous! We were all treated very well, my sister in particular. They sang to her, she wore a sombrero, and they gave her a free shot of tequila!! I would definitely recommend Casa Real for any occasion. We didn't stay late enough for the salsa lessons but I plan to go back soon to check it out.

I just had dinner there. I had queso fundido and a tortilla soup. The food was terrible. Try something else.

Since moving to Oxford in September, this has quickly become my favorite local restaurant. The staff is awesome, the food is great, and it is a fun atmosphere. The food portions are very generous and can easily be split between two people depending on how hungry you are. And the drinks are great, I love the margaritas and mojitos!

  • Frank S.

Food is great! Sit in for drinks and apps with friends, or order take out and enjoy at home. I love the take out portions, they do not scrimp on the extras. They also pack them in aluminum pans with lids that I run through the dishwasher and reusing for other stuff! Alway good food and a great value. Try the chimichangas and the enchiladas. Wait staff has always been efficient and attentive. Also very kid friendly.

Skip On the Border. Go here. The food, atmosphere, drinks, and prices are all better. Maybe it's crazy stupid racist of me, but I just can't get behind these boring homogenized "upscale" Mexican joints where you don't see a single brown person. The point being, this place has great margaritas for a great price, great food that's fairly authentic, friendly service, and all of it is pretty cheap. Good on you Oxford.

Skip the line at Sagebrush. Better food here.

  • Jackie T.

This place is such a delight. Service is always on point. The food is delicious and spicy. The menu is extensive, sometimes making it very difficult to choose just one thing. I particularly enjoy their fajitas and flautas. Portions are generous. The margaritas are very good. The atmosphere is rather fun on the weekends. Great music and salsa dancing sometimes. I typically order take out once a week. They are always stingy with the salsa for take out and they'll charge extra if you request more. They should provide a bigger portion when you order several entrees.

We came here on Valentine's Day...yowza! Who know people love Mexican on V.D. We had to wait around a 1/2 hour for a table, no worries there. After getting seated out waiter was most awesome. My pain in the butt hubby can never decide what to get so the waiter told him that what ever he wanted he could make a combo out of it. You want a taco, a burrito, and an enchilada all at the same time..no problem senor, I can make it happen. The chips and salsa were great (I do like my chips a bit greasier) and the guac was delicious as well. I got the wet burrito with beef/chix/beans. I think I ate only half of it, it was huge. The downer..the mariachi band. It was so amazingly loud in there. The wonderful fellas were going from table to table serenading you while you ate. My husband and I kept our eyes down and tried not to make eye contact whatsoever so they wouldn't come to our table. The whole time we were on look out..Eyes down!! Eyes down!! I would shout. I was not in the mood for La Bamba while I dipped my chips. I would most definitely come back here. They are local and they are delish.

I like almost everything here. Good, fresh food. Good drinks. Good prices. Friendly staff. The 1 glaring downside... WHY ON EARTH DO YOU USE PROCESSED CHEESE! It is the one item that ruins many dishes. I always end up just scraping it off. Except that 1 time I ordered the "Queso Fundido", on of my Mexican Favs (Chorizo, Queso Fresco, Jalepenos)... and the whole dish was processed cheese. The most ridiculous part... Queso Fresco translates to "Fresh Cheese"! Sigh.... But again, outside of them trying to save a few pennies on cheese, everything else is solid. But Mexican Town is better (real cheese!). And LaShonda... if you think Oxford is the middle of nowhere, you don't get around much. Get your condescending A$$ back to your state.

Excellent in every possible way. The food is authentic, expertly prepared, enthusiastically served and tastes incredible. I'm partial to the vegetarian botana, but the entire menu is worth exploring. My fiance and I have spent a lot of nights out at Casa, and would continue to do so if we hadn't moved so far away. We still try to make it up there at least once a month. We always have a great time, whether we're taking salsa lessons, dancing with the wait staff, celebrating New Year's Eve or enjoying the mariachi band. Casa Real is a truly great restaurant.

Casa Real keeps it real. We used to go here about once a week, just as Jackie wrote. It was almost always a perfect meal for what they serve. The staff was always nice and the food warm. Your options in Oxford are not plentiful, so it's great to know the few business that make it happen up there make it happen the right way. Keep on keeping on guys. I hope you last forever. Even though nothing does.

Authentic mexican food with good service. I love the Casa real because the food is great and the prices are right. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant around!!!

This is a truly incredible Mexican restaurant. I had not even the slightest idea that Mexican food could be THIS good! I'm blown away.

  • Aivilo E.

This is the restaurant that Oxford needed. Something not too expensive, quick and entertaining. Service is quick, efficient. Food portions are generous, but not overwhelming. Spice level is medium ... we like very spicy food, so the items on the menu that are indicated as spicy, well, we found them moderate. The carne asada is pretty good, but there are a few really yummy casserole type dishes that are different from your typical burrito and fajitas. Kids menu is okay, but my kids tend to like the adult dishes anyway - the huevos con chorizo is their favorite (and it is spicier than I have found at other places!) There is a mariachi band on the weekends ... we try to get there before it starts because it is really loud. My family tries to go to only family or independently owned restaurants. This is a gem of a place ... excellent food, great service, decent prices. Give Casa Real a try ... you won't be disappointed!

MMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the cheese sticks and fries. The waiters are nice. This is 5 stars.

    (5)
  • Brian H.

This is a nice place with great Mexican food. Not really spicy - I'm told that "real" Mexican food isn't - but still really good. Give the Enchiladas a try!

  • Chris C.

Best Mexican food in Michigan hands down. My family of 6 are there about once a week, get the best service and even better food. Salsa is super addicting and the Cheese dip with karrizo (sp) is my wifes favorite.

  • Atom G.

great atmosphere and dining. This charming home-style Mexican restaurant has very good authentic Mexican meals. Has a parking lot available in back with lots of spaces so be sure to bring all your friends and family. Very friendly and has a family owned business charm.

Loved this place. Nice decor and fast service. The salsa was outstanding! Loved the flavor. The wet burrito was really good too, good price/value and I have no complaints. Would definitely return.

  • Greg D.

The place has degraded badly. Waitstaff seems to not care and the food is just not good anymore. Unsure of the cause but it's a shame. This place used to be really good.

Me and a group of friends went here for the taco special they had going on, and I personally won't be coming back. Our waitress was very short with us and was possibly talking about us in Spanish to the other wait staff (since they were looking at us while doing so.) She barely checked on us too while we were eating our bland, lackluster tacos too. The whole experience was degrading and unfriendly. Won't be coming back.

I have a friend who lives in Oxford who told me the fajitas for 2 for $20, are fabulous, well I found myself in Oxford Monday afternoon. Got here at 2:30 pm between lunch & dinner, were promptly greeted & seated. Also a bonus was Mondays are $3 off any fajitas & margaritas $3 20 ounces $5 ( but I was driving so no Rita today ) We ordered the steak - chicken fajitas for two, $19.95 Soon after ordering Jose brought out the sizzling-well stocked cast iron skillet plus we each were provided our own plates of Beans Rice Lettuce Guacamole Sour Cream dollop & 8 tortillas The chunks-hunks of meat were cut perfect & were oh so tender Onions & Peppers were caramelized to perfection without being soggy we asked for no tomatoes for 2 reasons 1. out of season 2.bride is very allergic to them Next time I will order double beans as the rice did not work for me at all, but the bride loved it The fajitas were so plentiful that we each had 2 roll ups, filled & got two more meals at home later. Hoping the Casa Real in Madison Hts is as good?

This place just opened. It used to be Juans Hacienda which I frequented in the past. The inside has been redone and now it has booth seating. I would say the food is a step up from the previous establishment. I judge all Mexican restaurants on one dish - FAJITAS. And Casa Real has pretty good ones. This is Casa Real's third restaurant in the area I believe. Hopefully they keep up the good work.

  • Melissa M.

I used to love this place, but recently they have changed how they cook or the ingredients or something?! 2 years ago, I would have given them 5 stars, but the last 2 times I've been here, no one in the family has liked their food. What happened Casa Real??? Better step it up with Forest now open.

We walked in with only a few tables of individuals throughout the restaurant. Not being from the area and familiar with the restaurant we weren't sure what to do- seat ourselves or wait. Nobody greeted us so we waited till we came across a waitress. I politely asked should we wait to be seated or sit down and she said at anywhere and I'll bring you menus. So we sat and waited for over 10 minutes. In this time she has waited on the surrounding tables twice and had yet to even bring us menus. We decided to leave after waiting for 15 minutes total with none of the four waitresses acknowledging us.

We often frequent Casa Real when we're driving through Oxford. It's definitely one of our favorite mexican spots when we are wanting more traditional mexican. My wife and I both love the Las Chimis, cheese dip, tacos, tamales, chips and salsa. We really have never been disappointed with our meal and enjoy the fun, festive ambiance.

Friday night and the place is full ... They told us 10 min to sit two of us ... People sitting next to us waiting have a table of 10 to sit they were told 10 min also they have been waiting 45 min ... There are open tables in the bar area .... Been here before food is good so we will see been waiting 20min so its not looking very promising so far..... So after 35 min we get to a table ( that was empty for the entire time we waited ) it was in full view ! The food was OK and the service was very very very slow ... I am thinking they are very under staffed ..... Not the customers problem!

  • Alex M.

The food was good. I wish I had a bigger portion. I had the Arroz Con Pollo, but with how big their plates are and how small the portions are - it was visible that they tried spreading the dish out to cover the plate. The chips/salsa is real good. The wait staff is real good about refilling when you are out of chips/salsa. No complaints there. The noise level was our biggest concern. The Birthday celebration has to go. It is very obnoxious and loud. We weren't able to communicate as others in the restaurant had this parade of instruments come to their table. It was very off-putting. The waitress we had was awkward as well, coming by our table at one point to ask if we had gotten our food yet (do you see food?). Although the food was decent, we won't be back.

By far the worst Mexican Food I have ever had. Tried the breaded ribeye which at best was a piece of shoe leather about 1/8 inch thick and the knife could barely cut into it. The burrito and chimi were good. The shrimp and scallop dinner was covered in cheese to hide the burnt onions in the dish. We will never go back to this resturant.

Two star for edible but I would never recommend it. There are only a couple waiters/waitresses that are excellent at there job here and care about the customer. If you are unlucky and get anyone else be prepare to wait for long periods of time for drink re-fill, ordering food, and getting the check. I would say out of past five time I was forced to go there only two were good waiter/waitress experiences. Now the food, it generic. I have tried quesadillas, fajitas and burritos. The beef quesadilla was dry and not cut so it was a bit hard to eat. Also, they only put a small 1/2 tablespoon of sour cream on the side. When I ask if I could have a bit more, 20 min later (this one of the bad times) I got a room temperature carry-out sour cream that tasted spoiled. The half beef/half chicken burrito was ok but was clearly microwaved. Cheese does not look like that out of an oven. If you find yourself here I would stick to the fajitas. I had the chicken previously and they are pretty good. If you are craving Mexican I would not pick this place. Forest Mexican and saga brush in lake orion are way better. Taco Bell is better too at least if you get poor food and service you did not pay much for it.

Over charged on beer special. Also extra charge for hot sauce. No other Mexican restaurant ever did that. Food is good. Just good, not great. Very good server Michelle.

Visited on lunch while working remotely. Fun, bright colors and music. It was NOT busy so I got in and ordered, was served and ate within like 25 minutes! Waitress was nice. Chips were cold, is it just me or do others like hot chips at restaurants? Ordered Chicken/Steak Quesadilla Fajita, lunch portion - which is plenty! Taste was good. But they served like a teaspoon of sour cream and even less of the guacamole! Um, thanks for the 2 bites with toppings. Luckily I had salsa so I used that... Overall a good experience. Would come back.

Sitting here at Casa Real right now. My husband and I both ordered the mexican pizza, which has always been excellent.... well, they changed a lot about it and it sucks now. Our daughter ordered a cheese quesadilla and asked for a few black olives and some sour cream on the side and what she got was an olive quesadilla, no cheese for the olives to stick to, no sour cream and the Tortilla wasn't cooked, it was just a white Tortilla shell, that was a little chewy. My granddaughter didn't get her food until my daughter got her food re made. She's 3 and was so hungry. We have been coming here for years. We wont be back. I only gave 1 star, because I had to give something.

Casa Real - always great food, great staff and great service. Chips and salsa - delicious, but don't fill up on them, because you'll want to try so many more great dishes! The veggie quesadilla is awesome - I always add shrimp to it. Taco salad is always wonderful and FILLING! On Saturday nights that have salsa lessons for free. If your in the area, looking for a Mexican restaurant that you can get authentic Mexican food and carry on a conversation; this place is for you! Enjoy!

Not a bad alternative to Sagebrush. The food is good. The wait staff is a little tough. We've been here 4 or 5 times and something is slightly wrong with our order most times. Obviously not enough to get us to quit coming.

By far, the worst place I have ever worked for. The lack of consideration for employees and customers alike is upsetting. There are a very few employees in there that seem to care. I only worked there for a few months but in my 10+ years of food service Industry experience I was appalled on a daily basis to watch how things ran. There needs to be more concern for the workplace and sadly, not even the owner is willing to work out the details to his own establishment. Food there is fair, I have had better. But that's only if you can get it in a timely manner. Usually understaffed. Good luck getting those margaritas on time as well. The bar is not only under staffed but also as bartenders they don't seem to see the bar and the restaurant as one. Usually the bartenders ignore the servers tickets and carry on about their business because their tip money in front of them is all they care for. Poorly managed, poorly staffed, and poorly care for. Worst lack of teamwork I have ever seen. The customers however! The regulars, fun and fantastic and sadly, they shared some of the same concerns as myself. Which usually means if the customer can see it....than its pretty apparent. Needs lots of rehabilitation of the employees and management alike. Glad to say I will never be back there!

Blows Sagebrush away. Wait staff is incredibly fast, friendly and more than willing to explain items on the menu. Your glass is never empty here. Great chips n salsa, Cancun special is awesome, great tamales and sopas. Prices are better than Sagebrush also.

Great food, and overall great environment! The salsa is THE best. Definitely try the nachos.

The BEST margaritas around!!!! Incredible food with friendly, outgoing service! My two favorites are El Molcajete and Parrillada!!! Both are FANTASTIC!!! Chips & Salsa are AMAZING and so fresh!!! A fun and vibrant place to eat and enjoy some atmosphere in downtown Oxford.

  • Ian C.

I was there yesterday for lunch with a friend and three hours later we were both violently ill. All we had were a margarita each and we split some appetizers. That was the guacamole cheese dip and salsa.

For my money, I'm going to skip the 2 hour wait at Sagebrush Cantina in LO and head to Casa Real any night of the week! Sure, they don't have quite the atmosphere as Sagebrush, but you can't beat the over-the-top decor at Casa Real. But the main thing that I'm sold on is the food. We all know that Sagebrush isn't really mexican, and I wouldn't quite call Casa Real authentic either, but it's definitely closer than the former. I'll take the Steak Fajita Quesadilla at Casa Real over any menu item at Sagebrush--it is AMAZING! Or maybe I'm just a sucker for anything lathered in that white cheese. The margarita's are also delicious (and strong!). Next time your tempted to wait for hours with buzzer in hand at Sagebrush, take a 7 minute drive north on 24 to Casa Real, you won't be disappointed!

One of my and my girlfriend's favorite places to go. Great food, low prices, and friendly staff - we've never had a disappointing experience here for years now.

  • Zombie M.

By far the most disgusting psuedo-Mexican food ever. I grew up on the Texas-Mexico border, and the place is as far as you can get from authentic. The chips were greasy, the queso was like white soup, the chile rellenos were swimming in a pool of water (proof they were frozen not fresh), the beans tasted like they were cooked in sugar water and the rice was orange colored mush. The only good part was the margarita, so drink a lot of them to survive this garbage or, better yet, save your money and go to Taco Bell.

  • Daniel W.

Simply the best Mexican restaurant! The food is authentic and the drinks are top notch. On top of that, they have the best service staff around. Our family doesn't miss a birthday dinner at Casa. Love the sombrero!

  • Rachel E.

Mexican food is my ALL-TIME favorite kind of food in the world. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and all snacks in between. However, I love my girlish figure and have refrained from stuffing my face with tacos upon tacos (that sounds like heaven), and we will usually eat Mexican about once per month. This month we tried Casa Real - my husband ate here for lunch once and said it was really authentic and he felt it was better than Sagebrush Cantina (which is right down the road). I agree - I think it IS better than Sagebrush just simply for the fact that the authenticity of Sagebrush's food has been decreasing exponentially over the past few years. The insane wait-times just aren't worth it anymore. It was refreshing to walk in to Casa Real and be seated immediately. Their margaritas are AMAZING and the size of your head! I definitely recommend the Patron margs! The authenticity of the food was wonderful as well - delicious and made with quality ingredients. Four stars just because the service wasn't that great. We were seated for about 20 minutes before our drink order was taken and we were the only people sitting in the bar area. After our order was taken the service seemed to pick up.

Horrible service!! It took us 15 minutes to track someone down for a drink!! Before dinner even started we were pissed!

One star for the food and one for the variety of colors in this front of a Mexican restaurant. I walked in the entrance located facing the main road (Lapeer rd.) And stood there for a minute until a staff member told me I needed to walk the length of the entrance to the other entrance to be seated. The salsa came in a little carafe but it was a Pace-like quality. A Mexican restaurant without homemade salsa? My enchiladas had a salty-canned sauce. Neither my enchiladas nor my date's quesadilla contained Mexican cheese. This place is as American and Mexican can get. Their tacos are listed under "appetizers" and come with ground beef. What a waste.

I live within a 5 minute drive from here. My family and I (at the time of writing this, it is me, wifey, 7 year old boy, 2 year old girl, and 10 month old boy) eat here at least 3 times per month, sometimes more. The food is usually great, bordering on fantastic. I HAVE noticed though that the food quality goes down with the amount of people eating. The busier it gets, the less time they spend making your food good. That is my biggest complaint - inconsistency. BUT by no means let that discourage you from coming here. I have had almost everything on the menu and my favorites are the Real Fajitas (steak, chicken, shrimp, and Chorizo), the Carne Ranchera, and the Rancheritos (for a variety!). VERY kid friendly. It's pretty loud in there, so you don't have to worry if you have kids with "volume problems" lol. I will say that I much preferred the decor before they decided to re-do everything with the current plastic-molded, bright, Mexican-themed furniture. The booths are not as comfortable and...honestly I really think it's ugly! I'm trying to balance this review with positive and negative, so I'm sorry if it's coming across as scatterbrained and inconsistent. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm trying to cover all my bases. Summary: Great food, very authentic, kid friendly. You'll have to to put salt on your chips.

Love Casa. Truly homemade food-at worst it is good, at best it is spectacular. Actually like the variance, just like my own kitchen. Staff is wonderful; wish they would up the quality on their margaritas--offer a fresh juice version. They have tinga, which is hard to find but inspired us to make it at home as well. Chili verde is either Good or mind melting, depending on the day.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
