Been wanting to try this place for a while, so we got carryout. We were all disappointed. The sushi was blah. Way too many sesame seeds overwhelmed the taste of the fillings. We got some simple stuff just to try - California and shrimp rolls, and some udon. The udon was good and the tempura had flavorful batter. The sushi was overpriced, but the rolls were larger than the norm - more pieces. It would have been nice if that was clear on the menu. The menu was boring and uninformative. Many Japanese places around have pictures or better descriptions of their rolls. I was afraid to order certain rolls because I wasn't sure how they made them. We were tired and didn't want to wait and ask 20 questions to the waiter. Just make the menu more descriptive. The selection of sushi was also limited. The total menu had a nice selection however, so the name of the restaurant was misleading. Based on other reviews, it looks like the full menu may be their forte. My biggest complaint - cut back on the sesame seeds! Wow!!

Sushi is amazing. Only downfall is a little over priced. Other than that, you get a lot of food for what you pay for and the waiters are always super nice. I've never ate in side, only got carryouts and my order is always ready when I get there. Definitely recommend to sushi lovers!

Sushi 1 is a newly opened Japanese and Korean restaurant. We decided to give it a try. We recently went to a different local sushi joint, and left extremely disappointed! But, on with Sushi 1. We were the only other table in the place @6pm. But they just opened the day before. Not knowing what to expect we sat down and immediately had menus and drink. The server came over multiple times to check on us and ask if we had questions about the menu, and the sushi rolls. They have a little bit of everything. We decided to order 3 rolls, Spicy Pork, and Bulgogi. I'll tell you about the sushi rolls first! Crazy Roll- Tuna, Crab, Avocado, and eel sauce (I think it was eel sauce) It was FANTASTIC! The fish was fresh, and tastes amazing! Las Vegas Roll- Shrimp tempura, crab meat, veggies, and it was deep fried with the same sauce as the crazy roll. Also another delicious roll! I almost wish we had gotten 2 of these. Spicy Tuna- Tuna with a spicy sauce. All of the rolls were fresh, and excellent. Spicy Pork- Served with Miso soup, and Salad with ginger dressing. The pork is served on a bed of veggies, mostly cabbage, or diakon, with green onions. Most of the sauce is in the veggies on the bottom of the plate, Excellent heat (but not too spicy). My husband and I couldn't get enough! The miso soup is great with tofu, and green onion. Bulgogi - Korean BBQ Beef- Served with similar veggies as the pork. Just as amazing! Not spicy at all, almost a sweet soy sauce marinade. This is served with Korean side dishes. Kimchi, a baked egg with carrots, and spices. and other pickled vegetables. I was a little embarrassed when the food came out. We ordered way too much food. Next time we go back, I will order only one entree, and a few rolls. That will be more than enough for 2 people! Service is an A+. The server answered all our questions, and served us very quickly. He was extremely knowledgeable about the food. He even suggested that we order the Crazy Roll, which ended up being our favorite of them all! For a brand new place just opening, I cannot say enough good things about it. You just have to stop in and try it for yourself! This will be our regular spot!

Was able to get 4 rolls for little over $20. They were open after 9pm and they gave me a 20% off next visit coupon. They serve both Japanese and Korean food. They have great quality and price.

Alright, so, you're a fellow sushi-er looking for a high-quality sushi restaurant close to home, or you're someone who loves Korean and Japanese foods, or maybe you're just interested in trying out something new. Whether you're a chicken-instead-of-fish kind of guy, or a hardcore squid lover, Sushi 1 will have something you'll love. Having lived in Japan as a kid (my dad was an expatriot when I was 10-13) there's one thing I learned that will always stick with me: Japanese food is the best food you'll ever try. Now, many years later, I'm lucky enough to live in SE Michigan, where areas like Novi have a wide variety of Asian shops and restaurants. However, very rarely do I find a restaurant that has actual, authentic tasting Japanese food. And trust me, theres 'Japanese food' and then theres JAPANESE food. The difference has always been there, it's just that most people don't have the real thing to compare it to, so they don't know what they're missing. Anyway! Back to Sushi 1... A little over a year old now, and they've managed to stay true to their service and food. Since day 1 it's been authentic, and they haven't let me down even once. So they open for 3 hours in the afternoon, from 11-2, which is perfect for anyone on their lunch break to stop in and order a well-portioned bento, or if you feel like treating your friends to lunch and splitting a sushi tray. Then they close for a few hours and reopen at 4:30-9:30 for dinner, which is also good for when you just get off work and want to have a nice relaxing meal, or get a carryout to bring it home as an easy dinner for the family. Sushi 1 is located on Pontiac Trail, directly between Wixom and Walled Lake. Its 5 minutes from both cities, so it's really convenient if you live or work in either area. Now, what makes Sushi 1 truly special... They make the food the way it's suppose to be made. Every meal, either a lunch-sized bento or a dinner-sized entree, comes with miso soup and ginger salad. One of the most basic Japanese sides, Miso soup, is easy to make but hard to perfect. Many restaurants use poorly prepared dashi stock, which dulls the taste greatly. Then, they use the wrong kind of miso paste, which makes it too salty. Or, they use too much tofu and wakame that it's hardly the soybeans that you're tasting. What you end up with is a salty bowl of tofu and wakame that lacks the subtle, sweet flavor that fresh miso is suppose to have. Now, take all of that and reverse it. Thats what Sushi 1 does. They make miso the right way, and if you ever try theirs compared to any other restaurant, you'll see the difference between real miso and salt soup with seaweed. Also, the ginger salad is another delicious side. Its hard to mess up ginger salad, but some places manage to somehow... Next, the entrees. Now, even though it's called Sushi 1, they're not just sushi orientated. They have a sushi bar, but also specialize in both Japanese and Korean cuisine. I've never been to Korea so I can't give an accurate comparison to how authentic it is, but I can say that the Korean dishes here are delicious! I also know that Korean food loves to use meats, tofu, and hot hot soups. Korean entrees are one of the few types of food where a big bowl of soup can be considered a meal, and ACTUALLY fill you up! And their beef, to die for. The Bulgogi, korean BBQ beef, is the sweetest meat I've ever tasted. The Japanese entrees are delicious too. Since you live here in America, I'm sure you've tried fried chicken before. But once you try their Chicken Katsu (japanese style battered and fried chicken) you'll never want to go back. Lastly, the sushi. Oh, the sushi. I was so pleased the first time I tried the sushi here for many reasons, the biggest of which is: I've seen so many Japanese restaurants serve their sushi covered in sauces. Don't get me wrong, sauces are great with sushi, to COMPLIMENT it. Not as the main ingredient. I've had sushi served covered in spicy mayo, nitsume (eel sauce), and nikiri (light soy sauce) when I didn't ask for any of it, and when none of those sauces complimented the roll properly. You do that kind of thing in Japan and you'll get smacked upside the head with a salmon. Sushi 1's itamae (chef) knows exactly what each sushi roll needs. Whether it's better complimented with tempura, or nitsume, or sesame seeds, he knows his stuff. Anything else you want with the sushi is up for you to pick- 'season to taste.' I can also say that if you're feeling confident and want to try some sashimi and other sushi instead of just rolls, Sushi 1 has some of the freshest fish I've ever had in this country. The tuna, salmon, sweet shrimp and crab (all raw except for the crab) are my favorites. A slice of sweet, delicious and fresh salmon on top of sushi rice is probably the best way to spend 2 bucks in the world. Oh, and aside from the amazing, delicious, fresh and well-prepared food, the service is top notch too!

Very good. My boyfriend and I moved down the street from here and decided to give it a try. We've had carry out 5+ times at this point, never dined in. Always been very satisfied with the freshness and quality. The only negative I can come up with is the price. It is a little high in comparison to other sushi joints in the area, but the quality is there. Good thing is they usually give you a 20% off coupon every time you order. Definitely worth a taste!

Such a great place for sushi! Family owned and operated, the service is always spectacular and super friendly! The food has been delicious every time I've been there, and that has been several times! I can't recommend Sushi 1 enough!

This place is just around the corner from me and I love them. Super friendly and they are always giving 20% off coupons. The sushi is fresh and delicious, especially the green roll, vegas roll, new volcano roll, and the spicy california roll. The batter on their fried rolls is very light and tasty, not heavy like some places. Try the spicy flat roll on special- big pieces to fit in your mouth but worth it!

I prefer to use a napkin, but when food is this good, you've gotta lick your fingers clean! This is especially true when it comes to the Korean style wing-dings. The sauce is bursting with flavor and the fried portion is crunchy and delicious. I would come back JUST to get these (and trust me, I will!). I think this is an excellent choice for those who like having their pals over to watch a good game of football and want to munch on finger food. This will hit the spot - I promise!!! If you're not into meat, another good choice is the kimchi soup. The rich flavors and simmering broth will leave you feeling warm, satisfied and in a relaxed mood, especially on a cold day. This place has excellent food, a clean environment, and helpful waitstaff. I will be going back and recommending Sushi 1 to others.

I came here for lunch with a fellow Elite Yelper (I kept the first line the same so you would know who. LOL) but that was not my first visit. The several times I've been here, my party and I have shared the bulgogi lunch box, the spicy pork lunch box, the sashimi lunch box, the spicy squid something, dragon roll, some crunchy roll, dol sot bibimbab, california roll and several other dishes that I can't recall. Oh! The seafood leek pizza... I don't think that's what it's called on the menu, but in korean it's pa-jeon, and it is by far the most fantastical pa-jeon I've had in the mid west. Maybe even all of the United States. The leek was thoughtfully shredded and not put in whole or just halved like in may other restaurants. Each dish is carefully prepared and crafted in the kitchen yonder by the mom and pop who own the store. It's not their first restaurant and it shows in not just the flavor that comes across so deliciously but the plating of each dish. If you order from the Korean menu, the entree generally comes with an array of side dishes, not all of which I eat (I don't eat cucumbers) but everything I eat were eggcellent. And those that weren't eggcellent were excellent ;) The interior is tastefully simple with touches of Japanese inspiration suiting a Sushi restaurant, and by far the most thoughtful touch was the wall they built around the entrance which blocks the wind on cold fall and winter days. Where they also have a bunch of their menus that you can take with you on the way out. The servers are friendly and willing to find out anything you want to know that they don't already know from the kitchen. The manager always comes by to check that everything is alright, even at lunch. As I write this, I have plans to go there for dinner tonight and am salivating a little. I think I'll have the bulgogi today. Their hours are 11:00-2:00, 4:30-10:00, I think.

Really close to home, so I go there for sushi a lot. The sushi is always fresh, and there's a decent selections of appetizers. Yesterday I tried the squid from the Korean entree menu. And it was delicious. Really generous portion, big enough to share. Also came with a ginger salad (delicious dressing) and miso soup, as well as a side of rice. Definitely going to try more of their Korean dishes. Sometimes it takes a long time to get the food out, and they don't have sea urchin, which is my favorite, so it's only a four star review. However, it's a great place, and I'll definitely come back.

Five star sushi, but I gave four stars because they are significantly more expensive than other local places if you're ordering a few random rolls, like I usually do. (Ex, avocado roll here is 3.95, at my other sushi spot it is 2.50). It looks like lunch would be a good time to come; they offer a sushi lunch of 5 pcs sushi and a California roll for 9.95, which isn't bad. Hubby and I tried three rolls. 1) spicy salmon (which wasn't expressly on the sushi order sheet, but we asked and they made it for us). Very good. Came with big pieces of cucumber in it, which you could ask to be omitted if you wanted. 2) Vegas roll- this roll came out differently than a previous yelper described. It was very good, soft rice outside with shrimp tempura, crab, and two kinds of fish rolled inside. 3) California roll- the classic, flavorful and fresh tasting. Not an afterthought like I feel some California rolls can be. None of our rolls came out with any sauce, which I didn't request, but I was TOTALLY fine with it because I generally don't care for sauces on sushi anyway. I requested no masago on the California roll. The service was quick, attentive and friendly. I'll probably be back for lunch sometime. If you like Korean food, this place would open up a whole new world of possibilities for you. I'm only interested in the sushi though so that's what this review is based on. :)

Expensive, sushi was low quality compared to others in Novi/Wixom area, and the service was terrible. Took 45 minutes to get food and we were the only two customers. I got mine a solid twenty minutes (and had finished eating) before the person I was with. $26 when I could get the same from across town for half that price and in half the time!

I came here for lunch with a fellow Elite Yelper. I ordered a sashimi lunch box and was pleased with the variety and quantity. The sashimi was salmon, tuna and red snapper (the most popular among Americans?). Included a fried dumpling, a dollop of potato salad, California rolls and so forth. The miso soup (which I don't bother past the first spoonful at most places) was delicate and flavorful. My friend ordered BiBimBap and received all the Korean side dishes which she shared. I really enjoyed the kimchee and bean sprouts. My favorite was the sweetish pickle that included celery and chayote squash. Crispy, slightly sweet and refreshing!

The sushi is good and VERY generously portioned. The staff is also very friendly, and very helpful. The price is also Compagnie considering the size of their portions. I'm definitely going back

I really wanted to like this place considering it's so close to home. I stopped by to get take out for dinner and was a little confused with the restaurant having both Japanese dishes as well as Korean dishes. I ordered the most basic dinner which was the shrimp tempura. I've had my fair share with tempura dishes either having too much batter or too oily and this was one of them. When I got home I opened up the box to find an overload of veggies and shrimp, a side of California Rolls (just 2 pieces of a roll), and some sort of mash potato looking thing with veggies in it. They definitely give you a lot for what you pay for, but the quality just isn't there. The fried tempura just looks super greasy, and tasted that way. Might as well have thrown in the kitchen sink to fry up for more flavor! The miso soup was bland, and I didn't even bother trying the ginger salad since it looked questionable. I would have given this place one star but gave it an extra one due to the amount you food you get. Quantity over quality.

Not a full 5 stars because it took **forever** for my order to come out and for them to even get my bill. Like whaaaat?? There were only about 3 other tables of 3 or less in the restaurant. AWESOME FRESH sushi!! I absolutely love California rolls...so I had to try them! Crunchy and fresh avocado...fresh, soft crab...soft, sticky rice....YUM!!
