I am a big fan of Buddy's. This new location in Novi has a great outdoor patio. I enjoyed dinner here with a colleague from out of town. Service was good. In particular, the waitstaff was working together to cover tables as they seemed a bit busier than planned. The salad here was well-dressed and appointed. The presentation allows for the act of sharing or family-style service at the table, which adds to conversation and dinner experience. My colleague ordered a pizza with several different meats, and I enjoyed the Lake Erie, which was excellent. This is probably my favorite Buddy's after the Rendevous on Conant, and it's much easier to get to and park at than the one on Northwestern which is about equidistant the other direction from my office. I look forward to some after work meet ups with my colleagues from the west side to enjoy this location more.

This is hands down the best Buddy's Pizza location I have ever been to! It is brand new, super clean, and of course the food is amazing! The first time I visited this location I went to the carry-out counter and was greeted by five people. It was a little awkward but they were all really sweet! The second time I visited I dinned in and had a pretty decent experience. The server was a little slow but the food was great! Definitely returning!

Buddy's Pizza is sooo good. The more you go here the more you will only want Buddy's Pizza. The square pizza is so great, it's so filling and thick. Make sure you sit down and eat in the restaurant. They have so much memorabilia on the wall. The service you get here is great as well. I will recommend this place to any one. The Novi location is the newest one, and it is kept up so nice and clean.

I've been to Buddy's Dearborn, Farmington Hills, and Detroit before trying this one out. I've done takeout before here but never dined in. A cousin from the East Coast was in town and we wanted him to try some Detroit-style pizza. The food was delicious, as it always is. He and I shared an 8 slice Super (ham, onions, mushrooms, pepperoni, green pepper) and my parents split a 4 slice mushroom on multigrain. They also ordered a soup, house salad, and mac 'n cheese to share. I was unimpressed with the service here from the start. We waited a good 5 minutes to get seated, and the hostess saw us but either was busy or didn't care. We asked for dressing on the side, for the salad, and we had to ask for it again because no one brought it with the salad. My cousin ordered a beer and it wasn't brought out until midway through the salad. Water glass wasn't usually kept full, etc. To be fair, my parents have dined at this location a few times now and said the service is usually good. But based on this experience, I won't be rushing back - Royal Oak (takeout) is the closest one to me, closest sit down location is probably Auburn Hills or Farmington Hills.

I grew up in Detroit and learned to love buddy's pizza at an early age. I introduced my family to buddy's not too long ago and we've been to the Novi location several times. We LOVE the food. Usually the service is good also but it's hit or miss. Very busy and very loud. The crust is awesome! Hubby and I tried the Detroiter yesterday for the first time and LOVED it. Definitely a new favorite. The bacon and cheese fries are a family favorite also. They don't last long once served.

The food was great, but the service was very poor. Our waitress was hardly at the table, and while she was there she was brief and not very pleasant. If you decide on this Buddy's expect the pizza to be the only good part of the experience.

I'm originally from the East Side of Detroit and I.just love Buddy's and this location is beautiful too!

When my wife and I went there today food was very good. Yes service was slow, but they were very busy. One thing that bother me, rolls that you can get at other Buddy's if you ask for, only come with some meals.

This review is from the perspective of someone who is gluten-free. In short, the gluten-free pie is simply pathetic. The menu says 8x10 inches, however I measured it as 6x8 inches which is a joke. The 8x10 must be in reference to the box it comes in (I did carry-out). This discrepancy is inexcusable, I don't care what restaurant. In short, it's false advertising, and for the price, it's a rip-off. You're WAAAY better off picking up something from Blaze Pizza right around the corner: better value, better flavor, better option if you're gluten-free. I expected a lot more from Buddy's.

4 stars for the variety in the menu, friendly service, awesome location and freshly made food. This is located in a busy place with a theater and a mall. Yay! Our server was good and attentive, our food came out at a reasonable rate and the food was good! The crust was amazing and the pizza variety was incredible and delicious! We had the Ultimate Italian and it was served on a thin crust -- too salty. Will not have again. For apps we had the italian cheesy bread and veggie sampler; they are both good- will have again! Lake Ontario was like the Hawaiian pizza with bbq sauce except with canadian bacon. that was yummy! Must Have: chicken wings

We ended up coming in while the place was already pretty busy. Our waitress Stephanie was swamped. It's probably very easy to forget things that are ordered and to be slow on refills during such a hectic time. Which is why I'm pleasantly surprised that Stephanie was on top of our entire dining experience. From the lightning quick refills to my complicated (sorry!) order arriving quick and accurate, our experience was great. I can't speak for everyone working (while they seemed very diligent and professional as well) but Stephanie was a pleasure to have as our waitress. Will return!

Love Buddys pizza but ther salad has to go! This time it was overloaded with dressing & I think it was sitting around for awhile! So soggy! The machine they use for their house dressing does not really mix it well and it tastes like it's all oil! I know this is true because it tastes much better at other locations! it's hard not to order a salad with their pizza! you will need to put lots of salt & pepper on it -to not taste the Oil!! Mentioned it several times but nothing changes! THIS REVIEW SHOULD BE ABOUT THE Farmington Hills location- only!!!!!

My husband loves Buddy's, so I don't know why we didn't visit the nearby Novi location earlier. Regardless, our belated visit proved once again to hubby (and me) that Buddy's has the best damn pizza in town. First impressions - the interior is clean and spare, with a sort of retro industrial feel and plenty of art featuring Detroit. We ordered two appetizers - bacon cheese fries and fried zucchini. Both were well prepared and tasty, but each was so darn huge that we should have ordered one and split it. As it was, we ended up taking more than half of each app home with us for later consumption. We also each ordered our own 4 piece square; hubby got the Detroiter + pineapple and I got the vegan with multi-grain crust. Mind you, I'm not a vegan, but the pizza just sounded good. And it was! We both loved our choices. And we each took 1/2 a pizza home, because 2 slices is a generous serving, not even taking into consideration our over-indulgence in apps. I want to particularly single out the multi-grain crust, which had a beautifully crisped bottom with a pleasantly chewy interior, and which tasted so fresh I'd swear they ground the grains when I ordered the pizza. Honestly, it's the best pizza crust I've ever tasted. Buddy's of Novi features a full bar as well as a decent choice of craft beer. Service is accommodating and efficient - these wait people know what they're doing. If you're already a fan of Buddy's then you should know that this location is A-OK. If you've never been to Buddy's, or if it's been a while, and if you live in the Novi or Walled Lake area, then you should get there to try it. You'll like it.

Big bad ass pie. Ambience 5: It's set up like an old school diner with a futuristic vibe, picture Back to the Future 2. They have many super sized TV's scattered around. I'm currently watching the Broncos vs New England game on one of them. It's a large spot, plenty of space to bring a pizza party. Food/drinks 5: The pizza is intoxicating. It feels like you're getting drunk off pepperonis and marinara. They are big square pizzas, that will fill you up quickly. I had the super, which is pretty much the shit. Service 5: I sat at the bar and they were well staffed and friendly. Overall I had a great experience and luckily it's down the street so I will be back for many more visits.

I am a very long time customer of Buddy's. In the late 1950's my friends & I traveled from the West side of Detroit to the East side just for the pizza! That written, this is one of the few restaurants that have opened new locations and maintained quality and service. The food and service are exceptional, no one makes a square pizza crust like Buddy's! The salads are always fresh, crisp and loaded with the extras. The spaghetti, you will need a take home box and the sauce...buy a quart take it home.

We've come here several times since this (Novi) location has opened and never had a bad experience. Keep up the good work! Cheers!

Opening a Buddy's Pizza in Novi was very welcome news to my wife and I. We try to hit up Buddy's at least one a quarter, usually visiting the Dearborn one after going to Henry Ford/Greenfield Village. We have been eagerly anticipating the doors to open to this new location. The first night this place was open, we did carryout of a few pies and an anti-pasta salad. The food was delicious as always. The next week, we decided to dine in to see the inside of the new restaurant. Things started off poorly, which is why they only received 4 stars instead of 5. If things get better next time, I will definitely raise my star level. Anyway, we waited about 10 minutes after being seated and we had not seen any waitstaff. We finally went to the front and asked about this. The manager apologized and said he would send someone right over. It sounds like there was a miscommunication and there was no waitstaff assigned to our table. This meant that someone was assigned to our table and she didn't seem too happy to have an extra table. She was an adequate waitress, but she didn't really talk to us and simply served us food and drinks. The miscommunication and lukewarm waitress may be because they just opened. Only time will tell. The food here was top notch. I have posted on one of the other Buddy's about the pizza here. I don't think you can even compare it to other pizza places, because it is so much better than anywhere else. The pizza on this day did not disappoint. Even the leftovers were delicious when microwaved. All in all, I am hoping some of the service issues get worked out, but the pizza is the best I have ever had. Buddy's is by far Michigan's best.

Buddy's is just amazing. I was so happy to see they put a location in Novi. This is the biggest Buddy's I've been to. Lots of room for big parties. The food is always fresh, hot, and delicious. The waitstaff is always friendly and informative. My friend and I come here at least once a month!

Squares of love. These pizzas are phenomenal. The three blend cheese is original, and with the great sauce and crust, there is no beating Buddy's for pizza. The location in Nori is great....fifties diner meets retro-hip. Love the signs and atmosphere. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. A great place for groups, family, friends, or even on your own. Get the Henry Ford...bacon and feta never tasted so good as on a pizza.

So excited this opened in Novi. The service was great, the food was great, the restaurant was beautiful. We had a group of ten and our order came out timely and perfect. I have to give it three stars for one huge reason. The noise level was obscene. There is nothing in the architecture to absorb the noise. High ceilings with tin, no soft spots - flooring, cushions, wall materials. The menu lists group size ordering, but our group had to yell at the person directly next to them to be heard. This is not conducive to positive group experience. I am not sure how the waitress heard our orders. We will not be back until Buddy's can control the sound level.

Everything we ordered was amazing. I can't wait to go back. The DIA pizza is so different. And I loved the hot fudge ice scream or something like that. Amazing. I can't wait to go back there

This will be a split review as well. We had a party of 10. Someone in our party called a day or two ahead to make reservations and was told that they don't take reservations except before 4:30, but to call as they left the house to get our name on the list. So, someone else did called shortly before we were all to meet. She was told that they didn't know who told us to call ahead and they don't do that. She arrived first and let us know that there would be a 30 minute wait because there were 2 other large parties ahead of us. We were seated in the Bocce room -- a room apparently reserved for large parties. While the restaurant is somewhat attractive, the high ceilings are not conducive to conversation. It was nearly impossible to hear anyone except the people sitting right next to me. And the televisions set to wrestling matches did absolutely nothing to enhance the dining experience. That said, the service and food fared better. Our server, Ellen, was very good. She asked how we wanted the bill. We had 3 couples and 3 singles, and she did not mind making splitting our bill properly. She was efficient and brought drink refills before we even realized we needed them! Everyone had been to Buddy's before (although not necessarily to this location), so they were familiar with what they were ordering. Several people ordered the antipasto salad, and a couple ordered pizza, and all were happy with what they got. I decided to be bad and order the macaroni and cheese. it came with a green salad and rolls. Oh. My. Goodness. It was really good. It had been baked with panko bread crumbs, and the edges were nice and crispy. The cheese was creamy and just perfect. Another woman in our group ordered the oven baked chicken parmesan and she also said it was really good. If you're near 12 Oaks Mall and are looking for local Italian food or pizza, this is a good choice. However, if you're looking for ambiance and a place where you can talk with others in your party, you're better off at the Farmington Hills location.

My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try Buddy's. We came on a Thursday night and it was busy but not overly crowded. We were seated immediately. We each got a beer and their beers are decently priced. A "national" draft beer like Miller Lite is $3.75 and a craft beer draft is $4.75. They have a decent selection as well and some bottles. We got the mushrooms as an appetizer and each ordered a pizza. I got the Super and my bf got the Detroiter plus bacon. The mushrooms were insane!!! So good. I will go back by myself just to eat those because I don't want to share. They are huge button mushrooms, hand dipped and deep fried. The batter is so delicious and the mushrooms were juicy. The pizzas were really good as well. They had the crispy edges all the way around. I really liked the atmosphere, our server was awesome and so funny, and the food was delicious.

Unfortunately I have to write a mixed review about this place because of both good and bad things that happened. Good things: The food was awesome. It was so delicious and different than what I'm use to as far as pizza (being from St. Louis and all). I don't remember the pizza we got, but I do remember that it was tasty. We also got a salad too, and that was yummy. Nice refreshing dish after a day of heavy Italian food. The waiter was also really awesome about chasing me down after I left my phone on the table. He ran outside and stopped me just in the nick of time. I thanked him immensely for it and gave him a hug since I was leaving early the next morning. Bad things: Whoever was helping our server was an idiot. The guy was new and you could tell. Probably his first or second night on his own, so I'm not faulting him at all. However, the person that helped him messed up the pizza change (we had asked for sausage instead of pepperoni). Also, the server that helped rang us out for a bread basket, which we didn't originally order. The server was really nice and gave it to us with extra bread in it. Overall, I would have to give this place another try when I go back. Hopefully, it will be on better leaving terms too.

Not too happy with buddys pizza in novi, waited 10 mins for a waiter, then ordered a large pizza and family size antipasto salad, only to find a worm/caterpillar in salad.

  • Sarah H.

Went there for a birthday party and three wait was so long... But there were almost twenty of us on a Saturday evening so was to be expected. The salads and pizzas were fresh and hot, they put water and other items at intervals along the table which was nice and convenient. No fuss about bringing a high chair over for the little ones in tow.

Pizza is pretty good. Not the greatest, but I've had much worse. Cool 50s-60s atmosphere. Very pricy for what you're getting. Not worth it at all. I probably won't be back to this place. Tried it and then gave it a second chance. I'm done. Not recommended.

As a Buddy's fan, I was thrilled to hear that one was opening up close to me in Novi. I ordered carry-out from this location for the first time today, and it was excellent!

This a great family place! So glad we have one nearby! Though Buddy's is known for their pizza- the Kale salads are amazing!! Fresh ingredients, great service and a fun atmosphere full of tv screens will keep me coming back for more!

First time I've visited this location (it's relatively new--opened in October 2014). Ordered the Buddy Breadsticks for carry-out...yummy very tasty...:).. Hostesses Tanya & Julia were very friendly and assisted with answering all my questions. I look forward to going back to try the deep-dish pizza.

The pizza was delicious the location and atmosphere was great but our server Russell left much to be desired. He started out great but as the meal progressed he quickly digressed. No sooner than the pizza was on the table the bill was laid next to it leaving my girlfriend and I wondering if we would even receive service after. Once we paid after finishing our first slice Russell reached over the table to get the bill leaving the table un-bussed. Meanwhile the table next to us in Russells care has yet to receive their bill after 10 minutes of receiving their entree. Extremely disappointing. We're wondering whether Russell is profiling us based on our age or is simply just rude. Will not be coming back after this disappointing first encounter.

I'm a native Detroiter and haven't been to Buddy's since I was a kid. Now, with the close by Novi location, I was able to try it again for the first time in possibly 15 years. It was fantastic and much better than I even remember! The service was fast and friendly (we had Andrea). The decor has that cool Detroit feel. The pizza was super good (best crust ever)! It was a great place to take the family for dinner and we really enjoyed it. We will definitely be back soon!

The food is awesome as Buddy's always is, and the location is convenient near Twelve Oaks Mall. However, this location is SO EXTREMELY NOISY that we could not enjoy our food. I had a headache by the time I left. If you are in the mood for Buddy's delicious food, I recommend driving to the restaurant on Northwestern Highway in Farmington Hills.

Very nice new restaurant with big open rooms and tall ceilings. Great Buddy's pizza. Very popular and busy so plan ahead! Has an awesome menu with all of Buddy's best pizza and salads and everything. Polite and friendly service too.

  • Craig C.

First visit to any Buddy's. Expected more experienced better. Spinach and mushroom. My very fair estimate is the entire pizza contained about 1/2 of 1 mushroom chopped into tiny pieces, difficult to locate on most slices, impossible to taste. 2nd pie was Ultimate Italian; same result saw a couple of onion slices on the pizza, didn't taste the garlic or basil, and the sausage maybe an ounce or two on the entire pizza. Buddy's is no threat to Deluca's Lansing, Supinos or Pizzapapolis. A fair price for Buddy's topping amount would be 10 to 20 cents not a 1.50. Hard to believe this gets such high ratings in the state. Would not recommend or revisit.

Its on par with every other buddys location. Expect the best pizza Michigan has to offer. A Detroit staple. Think crispy crust, Sweet sugar sauces and milky cheese. Crispy cokes are available.

Tasty Detroit Zoo Pizza. Lousy service. Hostess was rude and not friendly at all. Don't think we will come back. Not worth feeling not welcome.
