When we are depressed in my family we go out and eat. Carbs usually. Sometimes it is easier to talk of things you do not really want to in public, there is no escape and it helps keep emotion in check. Not wanting to mess up a usual haunt with a negative memory we decided to go somewhere we weren't attached to. We had not been here in an age and my mom had some coupon deal from the internet so here we came. The atmosphere here is casual, service ok enough. Iced tea decent and refilled periodically. It was a bit cold in there for some reason, it did not bother me but it did bother my mom. The bread here is not stellar but it is served hot. Their dip sauce is odd and crunchy but ok once you adjust. No matter really as we ended up ordering mussels arrabiata and that provided other bread dipping opportunities. The mussels were fine but the sauce not nearly as good as some I have had, the mussels themselves were fresh enough. I was scared though as it was a Monday... I stuck with basic as I usually do when I am iffy on a place. The chicken arrabiata was decent. The pasta and chicken were properly cooked but not in as zesty of a sauce as they claim but still ok flavor. I am picky but it was fine and I really could not handle anything more complicated at any rate. My dad had the rigatoni al forno and seemed reasonably pleased. I thought it was tasty-ish too, it is hard to hate a baked pasta though unless they dry it out or something. If I were going to nitpick I'd say the sausage was clearly not homemade but hello did you expect it to be? My mom had the salmon limone. It came with shrimp ravioli which I thought were a tad chewy/tasteless and also with a bit too much lemon butter sauce for my taste. The salmon itself was decent, I liked that they crisped the outside a bit yet left it moist inside. We ate. We talked. It was ok, sad but eh life. I am not hurrying back but it was not bad with lowered expectations going in and it did perk up our mood some.

Ahh another lovely trip to the vortex of average, the epicenter of mundane that is the Haggerty restaurant row. Dined with a group of 8 and service was a little spotty keeping up with things. Entrees were varied from ravioli that were worse than what you can buy at Trader Joe's, to OK veal parmesan, to slightly better than OK pork chops. Papa Vino's is basically weapons grade mediocrity. DARPA probably has a research grant somewhere and are finalizing the delivery system as I type.

Came here on a weekday night and was not impressed. We were seated quickly but had to wait 5 minutes for our waitress to come to our table. The restaurant was not that busy but it seemed like our waitress was the only one working. We got our drinks and bread and then ordered---and then waited and waited. We were never offered more bread while we waited and our waitress never came to even see how we were doing until she brought our food out. I ordered the Vegetable pasta off the $10 menu and it was flavorless and really oily. My boyfriend ordered the Magherita pizza--it had what seemed like chunky sauce from a can and not much flavor. Should have taken the time to drive somewhere else.

Papa Vino salad is really tasty and awesome. I enjoy the wine "flights" where you can have small amounts of 4 different wines. The portions on pasta dishes are huge and typically it cannot all be eaten at one sitting. They bring out the standart warm bread and olive oil for dipping. Nothing too special about that, but overall a good price and nice place to have a meal with some various wine tasting experiences.

We frequent this place once in a while, and there is reason we do. For one the place is nice, clean, and the ambiance is not too arrogant, although there are those few who think themselves above the rest...I always think...then why prey tell are you in a chain type restaurant! This is a place where you can dress nice or dress down a little. Some people brought kids, which downgrades the experience for me...kids would rather do chcukie cheese and most of the other patrons would prefer that as well! When I was a kid, this place would have been very boring...as I am sure with the kids today! Overall this place is good for a business meeting, a date, or a get together of most kinds. The service is pretty quick for the most part, but can be hit or miss. I literally bumped them down a star just now, as a result of waiting last night about 10 minutes for an Octoberfest, and never got a refill on the garlic oil. Regardless of the minor inconvenience, the bread was fresh and hot, the chicken marsala was very good, and the angel hair pasta cooked just right. As a result of the delay in drink service, it prevented us from enjoying more, which really does not hurt us so much, but the business really was the ones who lost sales! I am sure I will be back again...especially if I am invited...any takers??? :-)

If you are into the full dining experience, but without the overly-priced meals, and overly-snooty waiters, then look no further than Papa Vinos in Northville. Having worked there for three years, and dining there years before, I can personally say that the service and food are definitely a bang for your buck. Offering a wide array of typical Italian dishes, from the basic spaghetti and meatballs to the fancy linguine pescatore, the menu has something that everyone will love. If you really want a great experience, ask to sit somewhere in front of the open kitchen, you might even see a cook entertain the younger crowd with a 'pan fire' show. If you often dine out in groups, this is a great place to go, but you should think of making a reservation--especially on a weekend, just to make sure your table is secure. Wedding rehearsals are a commonplace at Vinos. A popular choice for parties ranging anywhere from eight to twenty-eight, the Wine Harvest menu is a perfect option. Everyone on your guest list will be able to enjoy something, and portions are made based on the number of guests. You can choose either a glass of red or white wine, or a fountain beverage, two appetizers, your choice of salad, a pasta dish, two main entrees, and each guest will be able to choose their own dessert entree. That's the ultimate bang for your buck. During the holidays, the restaurant can become busy at the spur of the moment, so try to call ahead, if possible, or you can expect to wait anywhere up to an hour, on a super busy evening. It's also a great place to go for lunch, as the portions are smaller (and so are the prices!). Kids are always welcome, and highchairs as well as boosters are available upon request. There are drinks for everyone, big or small. You won't be in the spotlight for your birthday here, but the desserts are divine. My advice is if you like lemon, try the Lemon Tango--you won't regret it. If not, the classic Tiramisu is the way to go. The smoking ban effective May 1st will eliminate smoking there permanently, where a couple of years ago, smokers had their own section, so enjoy a smoke-free meal! Bottom line: unmistakably Italian, unbelievably good.

Jan.6,2012 - A merry time by all to celebrate a cherished birthday expected however by all counts one of the worst we have experienced for some time. Papa Vino's was a disaster from the start with dirty glasses, utensils and small plates set out for our group. A flag should have been added after a trip to the restroom that for sure spelled a restaurant out of control in the cleanness department . This was our second trip and we remembered the food as not exceptional but pretty decent with reasonable service. Wrong again on both counts. The server was a very personable lady (name withheld on purpose) but she could not help with the selections as she mentioned she was a wine and seafood person and didn't really have any menu selections (meaning she does not eat there, try the food or know the menu?). Flag again! That was alright because we were dedicated to capture the family moment without spoil. Can you believe we were still sliding downhill (after a thirty minute delay for the salad) the salad plates were taken away and 40 minutes ticked by for a hint of the entrees, two of which were further delayed. The food was overall mediocre and could be made by any person with an ability to boil water. In my usual tactful manner, possibly a bit louder then my passive self, I had expressed my opinion to the server, and a manager who was half brain dead. To their credit they did find a manager who was conversant and he did adjust the bill 20% for the inconvenience. You probably guessed by now but that will be the last trip for us to "Restaurant Impossible" Jack and Lynn

This certainly wasn't even close to the best italian food I've ever had.....but it wasn't bad either. The PaPa Vino house salad is delicious. Very clean place....reasonably priced.

Terrible food! Chicken Piccata looked bad tasted worse, ice cold. Very poor service. Now I know why the restaurant was so empty. Wish I'd gone to Wendy's instead.

Best I can say, it was easy to get into on a Friday night. Service was OK. Food was bland. Avoid the pizza at all cost.

I don't really eat much pasta anymore, but the shellfish dish is decent as well as the chicken arrabiata. The folks at the bar are quite nice and have gone out of their way to make me feel at home. Unlike some places, they pour a decent glass of wine. The regular waitstaff disappoints, especially when they're not busy.

This is a pretty decent Italian restaurant. IMO, there's nothing particularly special about it... nothing is amazingly good or disgustingly bad. Their service is a little slow; we waited forever for the waitress to take our orders and forever for the food to get to us. They do give you awesome bread to pass the time though.

We like it (my family). They once had an hour or more wait when they first opened, and now there are so many other resturaunts in that area you can get right in. The food is good (not spectacular - but good), and I tend to order the veal, fish or chicken dishes (not pasta, it is too cheap to pay good money for in a resturaunt). They have recently added the flights of wine, which I really. The bread is awesome. They have changed one thing - the salad that once was huge, is now about half the size. I used to order the salad as a main dish and share. I hate it when resturaunts skimp on you. They can go from smaller to bigger but when the do the opposite, if feels like you are getting ripped off.

Excellent food and great service. They give you bread with your meal and it tastes really good, I reccommend the tricolor tortelini.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
