My family and I were pleasantly surprised with the ambiance and food at this local restaurant! As former skeetown locals we have see this place change names, ownership and food choices many times. The food was terrific (we had the pulled pork, sauce on the side) music in the deck was fun and service was great!!!

Lots of food for your money! Great location right on the beach! Love the ambience with the boat decks turned into seating. I wish it was warmer when we went - outdoor heaters would have been awesome (we were there one evening mid-August)... Our food was good, large portions.

The fact that this establishment includes the word "beer" in it's name causes me to wonder why they only serve beer in cans, and when I asked for a glass and orange slice for my Oberon it never came. Two of the people at our table asked for Bloody Mary's and what came was nothing close to the drink described on the menu. When I asked why, we were told that the server assumed that they just wanted regular Bloody Mary's and not the one on the menu. There was no offer to correct this. With no less than 5 separate Deck employees coming to our table I cannot understand why the service was so slow. I believe that it was our servers first night on her own, but those around presumably to support her did not. The food was hit or miss. The brisket was dry, the salads were good, the sides were ok, the pork rinds were great, the sweet potato roll was really good, but the smoked wings did not taste smoked. The band was good and from our spot on the pontoon boat they were the perfect volume. The biggest problem I had was with the menu. BBQ places usually have some sort of sampler plate which is what I usually like to get. The Deck had one, call the Bartop Special. Two people at our table attempted to order this to be told that it was only available at the bar. Nowhere on the menu did it say, "only available at the bar." So the two of us who had decided on that were scrambling to make other choices while the others at the table ordered. I want to give the place another chance next time I am in town, because the location is so nice. I hope that our experience was just an effect of it being early in the season and not what to expect.

Horrible barbecue that is disgustingly greasy and cooked in a very zesty sauce to try and cover it up. I love barbecue and took three bites before I quit. Was recommended to order the Mac and cheese side by a waitress only to be told they were out, yet I saw two tables seated after Us receive the famous side somehow. No draft beers whatsoever and just an odd bar atmosphere on the deck. Our waitress was pretty good but we were greeted by a hostess who told us the service " would be slow because we are understaffed and it rained earlier" ( it sprinkled for less than a minute. I was at the beach all afternoon). Lots of food was being returned and all the teenage waitresses had an attitude because it was busy. Will never go back- huge waste of money.

Terrible service. Sat on the back deck today and got a nice seat under one of the shades. Deck was about half full and sat and waited for 15 minutes with no one taking a drink order, saying they were busy and would get to us soon, nothing... nothing from anyone. After that 15 minutes (and I was hoping to try the food, enjoy a beer and relax) we ended up leaving. I was amazed at how poorly coordinated this place is run.

I went there last year food was good did get a wet table but I tried that with my own napkin. The meat was good and the sides were tasty and the best part was a six pack of sauces so you could find your favorite! nice portions too ! Prices were fair and service was okay also. I recommended this place to all of my friends here in Muskegon where I live. I went back this year and it's amazing how far down a place can go so quickly! I do agree I was taken back by no draft beer last year in such a beer consciousness society we now live in and I hate beer in cans and bottles! This year they had an even smaller choice. As for the food, I ordered the same thing as last year and the meat came out dry and the sides were watery and not as good and the only sauce came on the food already and sucked! To add insult to injury the prices had increased 20 to 30 percent! That $10 Bloody Mary is now 13 and eleven dollars for a half chicken only to receive a wing thigh and leg is a rip! My 4 stars from last year has dropped to one! Yes they do have a nice deck but most of the view of the beach is nothing but a sand dune and sky and this place is definitely not worth the price! I'm not one to complain but being a former Chicago resident I have described Muskegon as an epicurean disaster! Last year I thought things were changing but was highly disheartened this year! I've been here 15 years and this building has been four different bars and restaurants and I don't see much of a future for this place! It does good business in the summer by visitors but a restaurant here needs a good base of locals to keep it going!

Good food and amazing music! Went here for dinner and got the Meat & Three meal with pulled pork, Mac and cheese, fries, and cornbread with a Louisiana Lemonade. The pulled pork was great, nice huge portion. The Mac and cornbread were good too. I didn't care much for the seasoning on them and the Louisiana Lemonade was alright, a tad too sweet for my liking but good if you like sweet. The music was phenomenal by Julia and the Greensides. Will definitely be going back!

Karen Z said it perfectly: "Great food, great location, great waitstaff, great view" I think it would be a bit of a drag if the weather wasn't good, but we went on a saturday afternoon (7/19) and they had a really good band playing. It was crowded, but it all ran well. Great place to just chill out, eat some good BBQ, go for a nice walk on the beach before/after. The only concern I had was the shade. We were lucky enough to be there on a mild afternoon, but there are very few umbrellas and not much shade except for a few indoor spots. I think they would make their patrons much more comfortable with a canopy or something. I'm afraid this would have been a 3-star place had it been much hotter. All in all. Great place, and good for them making a cool hangout! It's obvious they are trying very hard.

My daughter got the pulled pork sandwich with fries and macaroni and cheese to go. The sandwich was very good, the macaroni was great. The server was very friendly and the wait was short. Would love to try the restaurant at night when there is live music!

I was hoping for reasonably priced fresh food options when this place opened.... What I have found over five + visits is yet another bbq place of inconsistent quality. The brisket we have had has varied from fall of the bone delicious to so fatty we couldn't eat it. The sides are what you will find everywhere - coleslaw, bread, potato salad.... nothing stood out beyond the yummy brisket infused baked beans. The servers don't seem to be well trained, as one didn't know the difference between domestic and imports and another didn't know various types of gin. It would be nice to have some more fresh items on the menu for when it is really hot outside such as a shrimp cocktail or a cucumber/avocado salad. The view is excellent, so that has made up for the sometimes mediocre food.

Love this place in the summer, food is awesome slow cooked bbq brisket and great smoked dry rubbed wings. The evening we were there they had a great band. Reminded me of being in Florida on the beach.

Great idea. Perfect for location. Food = great. BBQ was spot on and food was fast and hot (except fries - old and crappy!) Perfectly spiced. Pickles everywhere! Nice selection of house sauces. My burrito seemed to have a guacamole cavern in the middle of it that made it somewhat difficult to enjoy for about four or five bites. Would be nice if it has have been spread throughout the whole burrito. Service = pretty bad.. No attention to details. Asked for and didn't receive type of service. A lot of "I'll be right back with that (thing I forgot again!)" Barely saw our server after we got our food. Here's a clue for you, if the parents of 3 small kids ask for Togo boxes, drop the check. It's time to go!! It definitely won't be our last visit. It has a lot of room for improvement as far as service goes. I will update after our next trip.

We weren't that hungry so had ribs, nachos & some sides split between 5 of us. Ribs were tender but needed flavor, there were six different sauces to choose from, which helped. Ate on the patio which was nice but place overall was lacking color. I wasn't sure it was even a restaurant until I walked in. Next to beach is a plus. Live music was nice also. Would go back!

The Deck is a nice restaurant by the beach. Great barbeque and the portions are nice. This place was only two weeks old when I visited it this summer and they didn't have their liquor license yet which was fine. I'm sure they do by now though. I only ended up liking one sauce, the house sauce. The service was excellent and very friendly. They have a huge deck to eat outside along with pontoons to eat on which is really cool. The prices are really good for what you get too. You can swap options and they have fresh fruit. I love watermelon so I got extra at no cost. Also the view is amazing.

Great food, great location, great waitstaff, great view...overlooking Lake Michigan at the Pere Marquette beach area. Our family enjoyed the ribs and andoille sausage. Our sides were varied--fries, bbq bean, mac n cheese, potato salad, etc. Our meals also included delicious fresh bread with flavored butter, a slice of sweet watermelon and butter pickles. The potato salad is made "southern-style" so it tasted like what I make & I'm from the South! The Harris Group owns & operates this new establishment. It's open until 11PM so we'll definitely visit again in the evening. What a great new place to eat and bring our friends from out of state. I would've given it 5 stars, but it's not the very best bbq we've ever had, but it's still pretty amazing. Muskegon needed this type of restaurant. Lots of room, attire is beach-wear and casual. Loved the entire experience.

This new restaurant has some serious problems. The only good thing is the location. The BBQ tasted old and it was dry. The mac and cheese is a dish made with shell pasta and runny cheese. Our waitress was slow to non-existent.

We had a great time relaxing on the patio and enjoying drinks and apps. I found the both the drink menu and restaurant menu you to be very diverse. Out server Justin was amazing. He was able to offer several different suggestions as well as give us detailed directions to the downtown area. We look forward to returning in the near future.

The service was good and the food was decent. The brisket and pulled pork were good, but the burrito needs major help. The portions were small, especially the chicken breast. If the portions fit the price, I'd give it more stars.

I went to The Deck Sunday night 7/20 at 8pm for some dinner with my wife. Went online and checked the hours and saw they were open until 2am. When we got there the place was packed! But, the hostess informed us and the party of 12 behind us that their kitchen was no longer open! Bummer! I wish it would have said that online! The party of 12 walked, but we decided to stay for a $10 Bloody Mary(It was an 8/10). The waiter was friendly, but was acting like everything he was doing for us was a favor because they were closing. I kept asking when they close, but he wouldn't give me a straight response. At 8:35 we see people getting their food! Either they were still serving food or it took them 35min to get their food! Finally at 8:45 they turned off the music outside while their was still about 40-50 on the deck eating and enjoying their drinks. People were still getting turned away left and right at the hostess stand. It started to get real awkward as their was no music and they were packing stuff up on the tables. Finally everyone got the hint and started to leave! The menu is mostly things that you don't want at the beach in my opinion. When I'm hanging out the beach swimming and playing volleyball I don't want something hot and heavy like BBQ beef brisket. I want something light and fresh like a fish taco. I'm giving The Deck a 1/2 star for the Bloody Mary and 1/2 star for the view.
