I decided to give this bakery another try since I live far away and I at least know I like their cake. I figured if I gave them very specific instructions this time maybe it would turn out better. Long story short, the cake was a 4 out of 5, so they did a decent job with it. The customer service is terrible. I had a cake with 3 different flavors, a smaller cake on top of a sheet cake. The smaller cake should have been lemon with cannoli cream and strawberries. I got yellow cake with cannoli cream wih chocolate chips and no strawberries. I talked to the owners husband on the phone. it is clear they were very frustrated that despite *trying* to please me after how bad they messed up last time, they still managed to make a mistake. Instead of taking responsibility he told me I was lying about there being no strawberries. yes you heard me right. huh??? Why would I do that, stupid. I took a picture when I cut the cake. When I offered to send the pic he got flustered and said it wasn't necessary. He also said that was lemon. A cake that everyone agreed did not taste like lemon is called yellow cake, newsflash. Even though their menu clearly only says cannoli cream, it actually has chocolate chips in it and they just don't tell you that. makes zero sense. what if i was allergic to chocolate? I live in Boston where we eat cannoli like vitamins. Cream is just cream, common sense to be clear on the menu. And there were the usual smudges on the cake no one cares to wipe off and fingernail marks in the fondant. On top of all this after some discussion I had emailed a list to Stephanie of everything, a final list we agreed on so she had all the exact details. The night before I get an email asking me if the graduation cap tassle is gold and the ring is another color, which is not correct. Why am I getting this email after I sent a final list??? I am traveling across the country the night before and don't have time to deal with this. She had it wrong in the email of course because they are too lazy to check the list. It was made the wrong color and I had to call the morning of the party to have them change it. If you can't read off a list you should not be in business. Her husband told me there was confusion because the colors had changed so many times, again way to take responsibility like adults. They are graduation colors so they never changed even once!! Good god. I will never use this place again. Aftter taking to both of these people, I see that they deserve each other. Not a drop of common sense between them. I also heard at least one story from a relatives friend about how they messed up her wedding cake by yet again not paying attention to the order. When I spend hundreds on a cake I expect it to be what I ask for and to not have to be stressed worrying about what they will mess up. Their cake is good but go somewhere you can trust. According to them, these mistakes are not a big deal and not their fault.

I already knew Stephanie had wonderful tasting cakes, because my family had used her for other events. But when it came to my wedding, I had a very unique cake in mind. Stephanie listened to everything that we wanted, and had some insight to make it even better. The cake was beautiful, and most importantly.... YUMMY!!

Went into Cakes By Stephanie around 11:00 a.m. this morning. One person ahead of me at the register. Walked over to the cakes in the refrigerator and waited. Was waiting for ten minutes when a lady came in after me and was immediately waited on. Staff completely ignored me. One lady at the register looked at me and walked in the back, never to be seen again. I've been coming to this establishment for a long time with no issues. Their customer service has completely went downhill. Very disappointed.

Cakes by Stephanie is a class act in every way. Stephanie and her staff have a passion and it shows through their amazing products. They will accommodate you in anyway they possibly can. I'm a baker so I'm a bit of a bakery snob, okay a total bakery snob! Lol! Her bakery is 45 minutes from my home but I'd drive the distance anyday for her quality products. Luckily, for the convenience of her customers (Downriver) she does free delivery to the Silk Thumb Florist in Wyandotte. Hooray, my lease thanks you! Lol They don't only do cakes, they do an array of cookies, cupcakes, pastries...all scrumptious. Their Hoho cupcakes are highly recommended. Our wedding cake was all we hoped and now, everyone was impressed. Our flavors were: coconut with pineapple cream fill, chocolate chip with cannoli fill, strawberry swirl with strawberry cream fill and chocolate with oreo fill. All were amazing! They work with you and your budget which is music to a Bride's ears!

I have been buying birthday cakes from CBS for 5 years now. Unfortunately, I must say the quality has gotten worse every year. The cake I ordered for my sister's birthday this past weekend will be my final cake I order from CBS. I was as specific as I could be, I sent a picture of the cake and this is what was included with the picture: "I would like the cake to look exactly like the picture (it's a computer motherboard), It looks like the black part is flat, but yellow frosting is like a piping. Along the sides/tall part of the cake I would like it to read in HOT PINK: Happy NERDY 30 Mandy!!" Attached is the picture I sent them and then a picture of the actual cake (the hot pink cake). Upon picking up the cake, I was disappointed since most motherboards are green or blue, but figured the cake would taste good. The frosting tasted like something that shouldn't have been edible and there was probably one strawberry in the entire strawberry mousse filling. All in all, I'm pissed I spent $52 on this and will be going elsewhere.

The most "PHENOMENAL" cakes ever! Our family orders cakes from here for many different occasions (7-10 per year, conservatively)! We have been getting our cakes here for approximately 15 yrs. & of all those cakes we have only gotten 1 that was dry & did not live up to our Stephanie's expectations! "LOVE" the chocolate cake with ho ho filling & the white cake with cherry chip filling! These are my 2 favorites, but I have never tasted a flavor of cake or filling of Stephanie's that I did not absolutely "LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!" WARNING, give plenty of time when ordering, as they are super busy!

Best cake and best service! I ordered my cake about 2 weeks before my wedding ( nothing like procrastinating) Cakes by stephanie was so helpful that the process was a breeze. I just told them what I wanted and they did exactly what I wanted! it turned out beautiful! They were very acomidating to the fact that my (now) husband and I have opposite schedules. They let me take home the cake so we could taste it and call in the flavors we liked to them! The cake tasted wonderful . There was hardly any left! They gave us the top of the cake which we took on our mini honeymoon and will make us a new cake next year on our anniversary! for free! Love this place!

Stephanie is awesome! I met her at a bridal show and I was instantly impressed with her professionalism. Her cakes that I sampled at the show were amazing so I ordered my wedding cake with her. They set up a cake testing with me, and brought about 10 different flavors for my fiance and I to taste test. They kept it affordable for us because we have 250 guests. Our cake cost us $580 but, in my opinion, its money well spent, you get what you pay for, and boy are her cakes worth it!!!

Stephanie supplies many of the local restaurants with their desserts. Their white chocolate, bumpy, and other cakes are fantastic.

We used Cakes by Stephanie for my wedding as well as my bridal and baby shower. The good: GREAT tasting cakes with so many options for flavor and filling. My shower cake had a topsy turvy effect that they did an awesome job with, and the little details on both of my shower cakes were perfect. If you don't know exactly what you're looking for, as long as you can give them a general idea they're sure to roll with it and come up with something great. The bad: I was disappointed with the look of my wedding cake, especially after seeing the amazing detail on my shower cake. I would have assumed they'd pay even more attention to that kind of thing on the wedding cakes, but I didn't find that to be the case. The main problem was that the picture I gave them of the design I loved used fondant, and they attempted to recreate it using buttercream, which didn't look bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I realize I should have specified that I wanted fondant, but I just assumed they would know since that was what the picture showed, and since they had done an excellent job using fondant on the shower cakes. So that is my piece of advice I leave you with - if you have a specific look you're after, be crystal clear about what materials you wish for them to use!

For my husband's 50th birthday party, I wanted a unique and tasty cake, and thought that our local Cakes By Stephanie would fit the bill. His birthday is Flag Day, so I wanted a design including stars, which were the theme of the party. I decided on a 10" cake with a premium design ($17 up-charge for "premium"). When I called to place my order, the person taking my order and I discussed a simple cake (white frosting, red stripes on the sides, blue border and writing) but I decided to pay for the premium design and we talked about the cake having large fondant stars that stood out from the sides of the cake, with a few various sizes of stars balancing out of the top of the cake on wire. I scheduled to pick it up 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning, the day of the party. I was excited to see how it would turn out! Disappointed! When I arrived at the store at 11:00 a.m. that day, the girl behind the counter brought the cake out, and it wasn't even finished! There were no stars on it, and honestly, it looked more plain than many cakes I've seen at the grocery store bakery. When I pointed out that it wasn't what we discussed, she read the notes on the order sheet back to me as if I was lying, then asked me to wait a moment, and came back to tell me it would be fixed in a few minutes. Half an hour later, she came out saying it was done. "Done" meaning there were now 5 small stars (barely larger than the size of a quarter) sticking out of the top corner on wire, that looked like they had all been crammed together in a hurry. The store was very busy, and it was obvious that no one wanted to take time to fix this for me. I asked her what were the "premium elements" that I was being charged for, because this looked like an amateur cake. She didn't have an answer, but just smiled, told me the total was $57, and if I wanted to wait longer, they could "fix it" some more. NO, thank you, I wasn't willing to wait any longer for poor customer service. The cake tasted good, but I probably would've been better off picking out one of their grab-and-go cakes from the case for $25. I want to support my local business community, but with that kind of service, I doubt I'll order from this business again.

I've been treated to one of Stephanie's cakes every birthday since my sister moved here ten years' ago. My favorite is the Ho Ho cake, a dense dark chocolate cake with a thick white frosting center. I've had it made as a traditional cake, as a Christmas ornament, and most recently as a wobbly, weebly penguin! It's always delicious and a wonderful treat! As every year passes, they get more successful and have moved three times. They are currently at 118 Monroe and I've notified Yelp so they can change the info. They have a website where you can view the many cake flavors, like blueberry, strawberry swirl, and pineapple, as well as the usual chocolate, marble, etc. Fillings can be cannoli cream, oreo mousse, peanut butter mousse, ho ho creme; too many to list here! They also do sugar-free and can customize a cake for a party or event. P.S. My sister tells me that Stephanie's is starting to make gluten-free products. They are starting with cookies and then will move on the cakes.

Amazing wedding cake, thank you so much Cakes by Stephanie!! The cake tasted and looked great for my wedding--only thing I didn't like is they charge you $100 deposit for the "parts" to hold the cake together. Well, I only got the 1st layer of my cake...the 3rd tier is probably at the reception place and I think my MIL took the 2nd tier so it's too much of a hassle to try and get these "parts" together to bring back to them. It is a huge inconvenience and kind of not worth it to me so whatever, they can keep my 100.00 as a tip for creating a perfect cake. Thanks again!

I used them for my wedding cake and it was amazing. The staff is friendly and professional and they are very reasonably priced. The icing on the cake (har har) is that their cakes are absolutely delicious. Would use them again foe my next wedding! Just kidding...seriously though fantastic cake. (Try the hoho flavor!)

I met Stephanie's husband at the Novi bridal expo last year, and he was so friendly and told me everything I ever needed to know about cakes in a matter of minutes. I tried a couple different cakes at the expo, but when I tried Stephanie's cakes I knew it was over, nobody was ever going to top that. I took a brochure and went on my way. This past Tuesday I brought Sean and his mom with me and we did our official cake tasting for our upcoming wedding. The cake was AMAZING, and I never considered myself to be a cake person. This place has every style of cake, every flavor, every filling I could ever imagine. They even showed me a sample of a cookie favor they can put together for our wedding that would have our initial on it. I loved that idea. They're going to make me the most beautiful cake (I wish I had a picture) deliver it, set it up, all for under $500 for EXACTLY what I wanted. This was the easiest decision I've made planning this wedding so far. I highly recommend this business if you're in need of a cake. :)

Note they have moved to: 118 North Monroe Street If shortening is one of your favorite foods, then this bakery is for you. I wanted to give a different bakery a try, and had seen that Stephanie's had moved. Bought four different cupcakes and two cookies. With the Oreo cupcake, the first and main thing i noticed was the overpowering taste of the shortening icing. No Oreo flavor, just that predominant shortening icing taste. There was an Oreo cooking in the bottom of the chocolate cupcake. Next a red velvet which was somewhat better because you could tell that cream cheese had been mixed with the shortening icing, but the cake portion was much drier than all the other cupcakes. The white chocolate mocha icing seemed to have possibly white chocolate mixed in because the texture was more creamy, don't know why there were mini marshmallows on top; but we, my family of four adults, could not detect any mocha flavor in cake nor icing. The peanut butter cup was a cupcake with a peanut butter mousse icing dipped in a chocolate ganache topped with a tiny pb cup. Thought this maybe the best, but hardly top quality, with the pb mousse. Cookies are gigantic, could easily feed 3-4 people. Oatmeal filled with a good number of raisins and topped with a way too sweet icing, and again shortening based, no taste of butter. Chocolate chip cookie is where i missed the butter flavor most, and if it had more chocolate chips, it maybe would have helped. So over all, maybe the two stars is too much. I will not return, I try to avoid shortening, ie: trans fats, totally. Did not notice any sign for pricing. You are at their discretion to be priced as they wish.
