Vangos waffle fries & ranch sauce is gods gift to earth. I always come to vangos when I'm in town visiting. Everything is great; prices, food, and the staff.

We live out of town but always go to Vangos at least once while visiting Marquette! Best cudighi in the world and waffle fries are yummy! Pizza is always good too! Prices are good too! Great memories have been made at Vangos and many more to come!

Enjoyed the taco pizza with lots of jalapeños. The veg pizza was also tasty. I would definitely get pizza here again.

I've lived in the MQT area for almost eight years and I can definitely say this my favorite restaurant in Marquette! The food is always consistent and fresh! Did I mention cheap? Great bang for your buck. They are open late every night of the week and have take-out and delivery, which is gold for us college students. I am obsessed with their Greek salad and I usually pair that with mozzarella sticks. Also the pizza, Cudighis, and waffle fries are insanely good. I would highly recommend anything on their menu. Also great staff, cheap beer and cocktails. I love Vango's!

I liked Vango's. When I walked in, I wasn't sure what to think -- it seemed like a combination of a Country Kitchen-type restaurant and a neighborhood bar. But I was pleasantly surprised. We had a party of six, and we only had to wait ten or so minutes for a table, which was excellent. Since Vango's serves both Greek food (spanokopita, for example) and bar food (like chicken wings), I had a tough time making up my mind, but I ultimately ordered the Greek combo, which was a slice of spanokopita and three grape leaves (dolmeh), which were huge. They came out covered in a lemon egg sauce, which was pretty bland but not terrible. The spinach pie was pretty good, though. If you have an appetite, I would recommend ordering a gyro or something else, because my dad didn't seem to get enough to eat. We would have ordered dessert, but nothing caught our eye. All in all, Vango's is a pretty legit place to stop in for a bite to eat, but it's not going to knock your socks off.

The BEST pizzas in Marquette area! Love their waffle fries too and the Greek pizza is amazing.

Just ate here over the weekend while visiting my family in Marquette. Great big plates of nachos with cheese and chicken. Not sure if they were so good because I was starving or because they were so good...but I enjoyed. The friday fish fry was great. Huge pieces of fried cod that reminded me of the fish fries we used to go to out in Little Lake as a kid. Good food and very reasonable prices.

Friday night fish fry with waffle fries -- I love it! Lot's of other good choices too.

Like all Marquette restaurants, this tends to be a little pricey for "casual dining", but not terribly unreasonable and Vango's offers specials. The service is wonderful and there are lots of good menu choices (including for those who don't eat meat). The pizza is good, and the sandwiches are even better.

I LOVED this place in college. They deliver by the way. This could be part of my love of it. I would be in the middle of doing homework and really want a hamburger, fries, and some cheesecake and bam 15 mins later there it was at my apt for me to eat. Good stuff.

Very good food and service. I had the Turkey Gyro which was good, and my DH had the Cudighi (a homemade Italian sausage sandwich) which was absolutely delicious. We both felt adventurous and upgraded to the waffle fries--we were a bit disappointed that they were seasoned criss-cut fries, but they were hot, fresh, and tasty.

Great Pizza and burgers keep us going to Vango's when ever we are in Marquette. They have a good selection of tap beer and a small wine list . This is where the local folks and college students eat need I say more . They do seem to get very busy on the weekends and when there are large events at NMU . They do seem to go out of their way to please their customers .

Ahhh Vangos my old friend from the 80's, you haven't changed a bit, even the menus look the same. My one must stop when visiting Mqt. is Vangos for the pizza or cudighi, or this time both. Some of the best pizza in Mqt. Drinks are cheap and staff is friendly.

Pizza was Okay. The chef's salad was really good. Service was alright. Food and drink prices were good.

Vango's is a solid choice for almost any occasion. It is a casual sit down restaurant with an array of cuisine. From burgers to cudighi to pizza, they've got it perfected. If fries come with your meal, don't be a fool, upgrade to waffle. They are pretty darn tasty. I'm always a fan of coming in after a long mountain bike ride with a buddy to split a basket of waffles and a pitcher of reasonably priced beer. It's a very family friendly place and also has bar and high top seating for those of you who may not have as many in your party. The wait staff is courteous and efficient, which probably has contributed to Vango's success for this many years.

We are visitors who came here with local friends. This place is famous for good Greek food in the area, and for it's pizza. What is not so well known is that this place makes a "killer" Rueben sandwich! The meat is grilled before assembly and the result is delectable! Waffle fries were perfectly tender/crisp. All four of us had the Rueben and waffle fries!! A really great treat!!

  • Sue T.

Took my son and his family here for dinner. Service was good as we're all the entrees except my cudigi. The meat could have used a few more minutes on the grill to get a nice chat and the bun sogged quickly making it hard to hold and eat. Other than that, everyone went away happy.

My friends never liked this place very much. They often complained of bad service and lackluster food. I disagree with them though, as I liked their pizza and gyros. I never had bad service either. I would definitely return. The food isn't amazing but it is good and everything is quite reasonable as far as price.

Great food - I recommend a burger, sandwich, or gyro with waffle fries. They give you a dipping sauce for the French fries that is amazing! The pizzas aren't too shabby either! Local beer. Good atmosphere. Will be going here again and again.

This is an excellent restaurant and bar. I love their nachos! It's technically an appetizer, but even the half order is huge. My parents love the fish fry, however I have never had it. It seems to be popular, as the place is always busy Friday Nights. Mexican Tuesdays are excellent as well. Love the chimichanga!!

As much as I love Vango's, I have to agree somewhat with the other 1 and 2 star reviews on here. First, Vango's has not changed in 14 years. I am class of '99 from NMU. During my college experience, I cannot count how many times I split a pitcher of beer with other classmates as we worked on group projects for class. This restaurant was bound to hold some sentimental value for me. I came back to the U.P. on a fall colors tour. Marquette has changed to the point where it's not the same town any more. It's beautiful. I can't believe how much the locals have landscaped, added more apartment housing complexes, and changed the entire look of the NMU campus! After exploring Big Bay's hidden treasures, my friend and I decided to grab something to eat, and since we were playing in the woods all day, we weren't looking our best. Vango's was the perfect place to go. The décor of Vango's has not changed. Not even the menus! Walking inside this restaurant made me feel like I had never left Marquette. Instantly I found a part of a home I once knew, and I was happy to get one of the large booths that I used to sit in while attending NMU. I guess this could seem cheesy, but I didn't force this to happen. Our hostess just sat us here. I did notice, like other Yelpers, that all of the wait staff was female. Although I still feel that the U.P. has yet to balance out in terms of how to view gender roles; I also feel the rest of the world has yet to work on the same issue. It's just the U.P. is further behind than the rest of civilization. This is why I am staying in Chicago until I find a mate. Once I do, I'm dragging him up North. Believe me, I want nothing to do with the Marquette or Upper Peninsula local men! My favorite dish during college, hands down, was the Cajun Chicken Sandwich. There's nothing special about it. I just like it. It's good! I think there's a special Cajun seasoning to consider, which they use to grill the chicken. Other than that, it's just a sandwich. It's a sandwich that tastes the exact same way after 14 years! I am not a huge fan of waffle fries; but I can tell you their regular fries are to die for! I dipped them in their ranch dressing, which tasted fine to me! I noticed other Yelpers were complaining about it. Our waitress was fast and efficient. I appreciated how accommodating she was when I sent her back for ranch dressing. In Chicago, if you forget to order a side sauce along with your meal on the straight away, then it will seriously irritate your server if he/she has to run back just for that. Vango's, keep doing what you're doing. There's a reason you're still in business! You may not be the best food, but you're consistent. Many restaurants cannot amount to this fact alone. I will definitely be back on my next visit. You are now Marquette's living room to me. Don't turn into a full-blown sports bar on me now! Stay exactly the way you are!

I still love this place even after being gone from the area for the last 15 years. The cudighi with the works and waffle fries are the best and you can't get a sandwich like it anywhere out of the area. The supreme nachos are awesome and they make a pretty good pizza. Honestly as many times as I have eaten here I haven't touched most of the menu but I tend to find something that I like and stick with it. The service is sometimes sub-par because the staff share tips...but after living in northern Minnesota for 6 years, the worst service at this place trumps the best service up there any day!!!

  • Alisa M.

Food, was delicious, quick, and hot! Waffle fries are a must have, with their home-made ranch! They also carry a great variety of local beers. An their chicken and lemon soup is perfect for a cold day! The food here is great but the service is even better!! Very friendly, knowledgeable, and fast service. They are on top of it here, and I am going back for more.

Vango's. The "Cheers" of Marquette, where you are almost guaranteed to run into someone you know. What it lacks in ambience (it IS billed as a cocktail lounge), it makes up for in friendliness, stimulation, great enthusiastic staff and pretty decent food. Their pizzas, which are thin crust, are all very good, and made with very fresh ingredients. Greek-owned, there are many Greek choices like Greek Salad, Spanakopita, Avgolemeno Soup, and gyros sandwiches. You can also dive into a "Cudighi" sandwich. Cudighi is a local specialty. It's a thinly-pressed rectangular version of of Italian sausage. Think a couple of sausages you left in the road and they were run over by a Buick.. Typically served on a long roll, it's covered with red sauce and mozzarella cheese. A little special which sneaked past the border from Ishpeming and its Italian culture. The place is almost always packed with families, the Marquette Elder crowd, college kids, and old visitors who come back to town and cannot miss a stop at Vango's. So, it's always fun and noisy. You won't break the bank eating here, either. And do get those waffle fries. Mmm-mmm.

One of my favorite Marquette restaurants! They have the best waffle fries and homemade creamy ranch dip. My two other favorites are (any) gyro's and the tomato basil soup. YUM!

  • Don I.

You might think that it is a plain ordinary college town pizza place. But the origins of this pizza place are Greek. So the food is magnificiant, way beyond your expectations. This is going to be added to our regular stops when we visit Marquette.

I had the Chicken Dinner (baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and carrots)--delicious. The house soup (chicken orzo with egg and lemon) was not bad but may be an acquired taste for some. Great service and low prices for good food.

Some things will never change...thankfully. I love this place. And safe to say even though it has been over 6 years since I have been able to go there. It hasn't changed a bit...well they got new tile floors and new carpet but the food is the same. THANK YOU. Waffle Fries with ranch are so good. The nachos are the best around. And pizza and beer, followed by live music from Jim and Ray a Marquette original. Jon Christinson still in the kitchen after 20 years, great service and a great atmosphere. Really not much more I can say about Vango's if your in Marquette I highly suggest going there. I was in town five days and literally stopped at this place 7 times to eat with friends and family. LOVE IT...don't ever change!

Waffle fries. WAFFLE FRIES. Amazing waffle fries! My husband and I used to drive from Houghton every few weeks (Mostly for Target/Starbucks) and we ALWAYS had lunch or dinner here. Loved the gyros!! Couldn't find many restaurants with gyros in the UP, so this was our spot. I still miss this restaurant now that I've been out of MI for two years.

  • Jennifer H.

Great and attentive service. Lots of menu options--it was hard to decide. Not the best gyro I've ever had, but it was still good and the waffle fries and ranch dressing more than made up for it. I can see why this was a popular hangout during hubby's college days.

  • Anya P.

What people like about this place is beyond me. The food is mediocre, the service is sad and the drinks are average. Seriously, the pizzas are the only redeeming quality. Now I like a good dive, but this is not even that. Greek my ass... Greasy food that can only give indigestion. Let's put it this way. You will pay $6 for a 'gyro' that will be pronounced incorrectly, cook with disdain and served by another waitress. (The owners don't hire waiters.) And for your six dollars you will receive bland meat with heavy sour cream on dense cold pita bread. The waffle fries are pretty good, but the ranch sauce is something I really don't recommend eating. All and all, just go up the street to Stuccos. It's safer and for lunch, nicer.

  • Eric R.

Excellent appetizers, good beer on (Two Hearted Ale!), but mediocre pizza. We came here for the pizza, but were much more into the waffle fries and breadsticks. If we're ever in the area again, we'll likely just to appetizers and drinks. The pizza was very flat and lacking in both crucial areas: cheese and sauce.

  • Linda S.

I love love love the pizza at Vango's. I'm from the Chicago area and the pizza here is too doughy. We order from here everytime we go to our cabin. It's a must! The waffle fries with the ranch dressing are delish too!

I used to go to Vango's after hockey practice or games with my coach / uncle and my cousins that also played on the team. I can't tell you the amount of times I've been there so for me to go under a 3 star would only knock my childhood, so NO, not going to go there. I will say that the average review is about right. Waffle fries are good, sandwiches and pizza are not the best in Marquette but they suffice, and the nacho's are heart stopping but tasty. The last 8 years when visiting, I usually just pony up to the bar and have a quick bite and beer, just seeing who I would run into. So, yeah, there are better places in Marquette but if it brings back memories like it does for me, just go in and have a beer. This place is A-OK with me.

Whether you quickly stop in to pick up a pizza, or stay for 3 hours on a Thurday night, you will leave Vangos SMELLING like Vangos! Their food is above average, with a few specialties on the menu. Get the waffles fries to share as an app. They also have decent pizzas and a full bar. Depending on the server, you might or might not find yourself flagging someone down if you need attention. overall, great hang out for locals or the nearby college students. Not the place to go to impress a first date!

This place has THE BEST waffle fries in the world, with the best creamy ranch dressing ever. Awesome pizza, TV's, and a full bar! Conveniently located on Third Street in Marquette.

Waffle fries. Nuff said. Really though, there is more to this place than just the amazing waffle fries with their yummy dipping sauce! Gah! I am getting a craving just thinking about them! Vangos has a verity of American, Italian and Greek foods, at least I think gyros are Greek. Anyway, I have some good memories here while going to college at NMU. I've never tried the nachos, but I do love nachos and they look good from the pics! Give it a try and enjoy!

  • Adam S.

Great food. Had the small Greek salad and it was far from small! Loaded with feta, pitted olives, cherry tomatoes and several banana peppers(peppercinis). The cudighi is amazing. A upper peninsula exclusive. Very juicy and fresh. I got my with the "works". Mushroom, onions and green peppers. The pizza is also delicious. A must eat at spot in downtown Marquette. Enjoy!!

  • Kimberlee M.

If I didn't always leave the place smelling like a greasy grill it would gave 4 stars! Great Greek food for the UP. Not much as changed (not even the employees) since college. Good prices and the special waffle fries are great with ranch. A sorority sister of mine makes us stop here every time for chicken gyro. But, not a gyro fan myself I don't see much special about it. Great pizza, can be very busy during hockey games!

get a veggie gyro with gyro meat added. it's a dollar extra. and it will make you weep sweet sweet tears of greek happiness.

  • Aimee K.

I must come here every time we visit Marquette. The chicken gyro with waffle fries is my favorite and you can't beat the pizza. Service is always good, unless you come in during a Friday night...it can get quite busy. Waitstaff are always friendly and quick -- in the 20+ years I've been visiting Vango's, I cannot remember a single, bad experience. Also, the only place in Marquette that you can get authentic Greek food; the Spanakopita & Greek salad are delicious!

    (5)
  • Bat M.

Used to be one of my favorite places. Now they use sub-par products, and prepare them poorly. The cudighi is the only thing still worth eating here. The gyro is now the frozen, pre-sliced crap that gets slapped in the griddle, instead of an actual spit roasted thing of beauty. I miss the Vango's of my youth.

    (2)
  • Brendon C.

The service is generally pretty good. The food does not stay separate from other food even if you ask specifically. Watch out if you have an allergy sufferer or vegetarian/vegan with your party. The food is ok. The pizza sauce is better than little caesars, which doesn't say much.

  • B. S.

I have been hooked on the Nacho Supreme for 30 years... it doesn't change!

  • Ray N.

I'm up in Marquette with my family visiting my cousin, and we came here after a long day at Marquette Mountain. Maybe it was because we were so worn out from skiing and snowboarding, but the $1.25 taco Tuesday and $2.25 Corona/margaritas so hit the spot. It wasn't terribly busy, being winter break and all, but there were 7 of us with about 25 tacos and a bunch of drinks, and we got our food pretty quickly.
