Shogun Japanese and Chinese Bistro Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

My husband and I were hankering for some Chinese for him sushi for me. We had a groupon that said good for Asian food. However, a note on the door indicated it was for Japanese only. Oh well, he's flexible. He opted for teriyaki chicken. I the Red Wings roll. We shared a plate of veg tempura. Apparently, when you get hibachi, you also get Miso soup and the salad with ginger dressing. When you get sushi, you get nada. Nada isn't a Japanese side. It's nothing. The tempura batter was sweeter and thicker than I've had before. It was decent but with the thick batter, the veggies were almost indistinguishable. They put on a great show of stir fry. The chef adroitly handled chicken, steak, shrimp, scallops and lobster and veggies. The most amazing part? The 3 people at our table messing with their phones while the chef flipped and flinged their food. The sushi was good though seemed a tad pricy ($10)for what it was-spicy tuna, shrimp tempura and avocado. I'd like to see some more unique rolls like at Osaka down the street. Plus, you start to feel real left out when everyone else at the table is getting layers of food piled on their plates and you have one little sushi roll. My husband really enjoyed his teriyaki chicken and fried rice. Overall, go for the hibachi show and for Pete's sake people put down your phones for one measly hour of your lives.

Rude server. Seemed annoyed by our presence. Group of 10 at lunch. Only a few others in entire place. Hibachi chef never cracked a smile. We tried interacting with him and he ignored us. Went to push my chair in and hands came out with some sticky goo. Charged for soft drink I didn't have. Tip was automatically added to bill. Haven't been here in years and now I remember why.

This is a restaurant that we regularly go to, they have hibachi, sushi and a dining area with chinese cuisine. We've only done hibachi there once and it was ok. I'm not really a fan of hibachi myself. We regularly get the sushi there and it's pretty good. Our favorites are the Rainbow, philadelphia and alaska roll. Another favorite menu item there is singapore noodles which they make a great version of plenty of meat and vegetables with the rice noodles. The only complaint that I could possibly make about this restaurant is that the service is sometimes lacking. After finding out that another local sushi place used rice flour in the tempura we asked our waitress what kind of flour was used in the tempura. (My wife has gluten sensitivity issues). She replied that she didn't know. We asked if the sushi chef might know she said "he no know that either". Unintentionally hilarious we still joke about it to this day. Suffice to say we go there for the food which is always good and the spotty service is expected.

This is a family favorite of ours because everyone can get something they like. We usually order Chinese, sushi, and soup during our visits. We have always enjoyed our food. Generous helpings of Chinese meals are served and sushi rolls are ample as well. Everything is freshly made with quality ingredients. A good variety of sushi is on the menu, though perhaps not as many original or unique varieties as elsewhere. If enjoy spicy sushi, you will not find it here. The spicy tuna roll, for example, did not have that kick that is desired. The Rainbow Roll is exceptional and highly recommended. If coming for a holiday, I suggest making a reservation. Service can be wonderful or sub par. It just depends. We have never been upset with our sevice.

On a Sunday around 5pm to be seated right away first made me super happy ! The hibachi griller was amazing such a great guy! We laughed the whole time and had fun. The food comes in such huge amounts that you have food for days. The ladies clearing the plates and refilling drinks were super nice and sushi was great:)

Don't ever get dinner for 2 if one of the dinners is gluten free. They have to make both meals gluten free. So disappointed. If I was told that, we would have ordered something else.

Went here with family before Christmas. Unfortunately, 2 stars was about right. First of all, the place was dark and kind of dingy. Not really the type of place I want to be when I'm eating sushi. Service was friendly enough and she was ok with us waiting for family members who were running late. Sadly the sushi was pretty mediocre. We ordered a pretty wide spread- salmon rolls, rainbow rolls, a few fried rolls, etc, and none of it was really outstanding. Hubby and his dad got one piece of sushi that tasted really off, but the rest were all right. Nothing really special but most of it passable although it didn't sit particularly well. As for the teppenyaki, that was pretty ordinary as well. Certainly not worth the price tag.

Good sushi, atmosphere is very nice. Get a good amount of food for your money. Service was very good when we went. You can make reservations online but I doubt that you ever need them.

Honestly I wouldn't even give it one star! I have never been to a restaurant with such rude employees as Shogun! The waitress appeared to be annoyed that we were there, and the employee cooking our food could have cared less if we enjoyed our food or not. We had a friend arrive late to eat, the cook was still working on our food but the rude waitress told her she couldn't sit with us that she needed to sit at the next table....really? She was never even offered a solution such as ordering off the regular menu so sadly she felt uncomfortable and left! How sad is that? The food was not good, over priced and the employees are rude so I suggest heading down the road to Osaka'a where you are made to feel welcomed and they value you as a customer. Better food and atmosphere! Shogun I will never be back!

I realize that fresh sushi is not easy away from the coast. But this tasted... more frozen than usual. My maki rolls tasted fishy but the others seemed okay. Hibachi is not a style of cooking that people go to for the taste. They go for the entertainment. And aside from my infant nephew loving the fans, nobody else seemed overly thrilled by the chef's performance. The food was not bad. But I thought the experience was lackluster and I'd rather go to ... that national chain. And I've had worse sushi but I have had far better (and I'm in Phoenix so its not like we're getting fresh from the boat stuff either).

Absolutely terrible. My wife had a few bites of sweet and sour pork and said it tasted disgusting. She then got sick from it and vomited. This is completely unacceptable standards for a restaurant. I urge anyone reading this not to get food from here. I hope good inspectors come here and shut this place down.

Unfortunately I can only review the physical aspects of the restaurant as we were never actually seated. We made a reservation for 10 @ 7:30, waited until 8 at which point the group that had the 6:30 reservation was seated until we went elsewhere. Staff was unfriendly and didn't make any effort to apologize or try to accommodate for the delays. As for the restaurant itself, the place was almost down right depressing to be in. It was dark, dingy and outdated, I would describe it as a cafeteria decorated circa 1989. If you're looking for a comparable hibachi with an updated feel I would recommend the Osaka just down the road, prices seem to be comparable as well and there appear to be more hibachi tables available in the restaurant. While I unfortunately can't rate the food which is what what we really are interested in, I figure if I can't enjoy the surroundings and the apparent service, most of what I would be paying for would be lost, especially when restaurants have comparable sushi/hibachi options nearby.

Absolute worst service ever, the staff completely ignored us and gave us dirty looks the entire time. Never going in there again. Tried out the groupon and I was very disappointed

I used to love this place when it was called the Dragon Phoenix. The flavored of their fried rice reminded me of some of the best China Towns across the globe. Now that they're Shogun, they serve Chinese, Japanese and Hibachi cuisine and I feel they stretched themselves too thin. Instead of being really good at one thing, they're only mediocre on 3-4 things. It doesn't seem to be any busier because if this venture so I'm not convinced it was worth the sacrifice. Yet I still order here because there are some items that carry that Dragon Phoenix swag.

I use to be such a fan of this place. So much so that I would stop there 3 times a week on my way home from work for a sushi carry out. This place had changed. The quality of the food is not what it use to be. They have no attention to detail. The last 2x we ordered carry out it was wrong each time. When calling back to discuss the matter they told me I was wrong. There are a few other Shoguns in the Macomb County area that are far better than this location!! If u are looking for a hubachi or sushi, I'd go to Osaska down the road or Ichiban. Better quality of food, price & service.

I feel this place has gone downhill lately. I haven't been there in a while and upon walking in the door, I think I remembered why... It is in need of a makeover. Boxes and junk sitting around, no one at the front to greet you, we practically had to seat ourselves. As for the food, it really wasn't anything special.. I had sirloin and chicken, wife had chicken... Steak was cooked properly, but had several chewey fatty pieces.. Oh, and you know how they ask what kind of rice you want? White/Fried? Well, there is a $2.50 upcharge for fried... Never noticed that before. Next they are gonna start charging for the hot water with mushroom soup... Also, you expect a hibachi chef to put on a little show or do some fancy stuff.. Our chef, not so much. He did about 3 seconds worth of slow spatula spins. LAME. The Anyways, they need to pick it up a bit or they are going to be out of business. I can tell you we will not be going back... For less money, you get a much better atmosphere, service, dinner at Ichiban just down the road. Thanks.

This is my second time at this place, The first time it was so long ago I can't remember. We ordered sushi, vegetable fried rice, and some fried sweet potato and fried zucchini. The fired rice was bland, and the vegetables were too greasy. The sushi was okay. But the most disturbing thing was the service. After we got the food the waitress went and sat down with 5 other employee and they were just talking. We had to get up and go to their table to ask them for some extra spicy mayo.

This was my first time and last time dining at this restaurant. The food was so so at best. The fried rice was bland. The filet mignon and scallops I ordered were pretty good. The chef used a bit too much soy sauce. Now onto the facilities. The walls and ceilings need some attention. There were lots of dust bunnies all over the place. It was like they haven't cleaned in months or longer. Lastly, the staff. Our chef did an okay job. He cooked our food quickly and left the table. There weren't any attempts at conversation with any of the guests at the table. Our waitress did the bare minimum. She took our drink order, food order, dropped off our drinks, soup and salad then we did not see her until it was time to get our check. We even were expected to box up our own food. Upon inspection of our bill, I noticed there was an 18% service charge added to our check. When I flagged our waitress down to ask about the service charge, she explained that a service charge is added to parties of 4 or more, which I thought was a lie. I said okay. I mean if that is the policy then alright I'll pay the service charge. On my way out, I picked up a menu and looked through it. On the bottom of one of the pages it clearly states that an 18% service charge is added to parties of 6 or more. The waitress saw me looking through the menu and then told me that the computer system is being updated an added the service charge automatically. Which was obviously another lie. She then proceeded to print up another bill without the service charge and gave me my money back. Too late sour taste already In mouth. I left her 15% which is less than I normally tip but in this case more than I should have. All in all a horrible experience, first and last time for me dining here.

This was our second time to this restaurant. We had a great time there and they gave decent service. We had hibachi and other great foods and the kids just loved the tricks that they did, including an onion volcano! The waiter seemed a little annoyed but we enjoyed the time anyways. We give this place 4 stars because we enjoy the food and chefs performance so much. Our only other criticism would be that they should clean up a little bit. Boxes of stock left around the bar area, boxes near the back staff area, and the front door in lobby needs cleaning especially fingerprints all over the glass.

Got take out from here a few nights ago, very expensive, low quality, bland Chinese I have ever had! I thought I'd "play it safe" and ordered the shrimp n chicken lo mein. It was absolutely horrid!!! I took bites and could not eat anymore! Noodles were off, very cheap thin rice ones they replaced the dish with, and the sauce tasted rancid!!! Since shogun changed ownership or ingredients or chefs...whatever the fuck it was, it's been on a spiraling downward trend which I'm hoping will lead them out of business hopefully soon! These motherfuckers need to go out of business to make room for new ones customers can actually enjoy n spend money on. I am so utterly disappointed with this establishment! If I had to pick eating at this place again or dining on weeds and grass outside, I'd pick the second option!

Groupon-date night. Eh...It was a Tuesday, so there was no one in this place. Sometimes it's more fun with a group of people sitting around the big hibachi, especially if you all don't know each other, but it was still fine, with two people. I always try to keep a healthy mindset even when eating out, and I never realized how much oil and butter they use to cook up all these yummy veggies and seafood. This place just loaded on the butter. I hardly ate my meal, it tasted good, but kind of greasy. it's all I kept thinking about...it was a bit of a bummer. The service wasn't bad...it wasn't spectacular. I probably wouldn't go back here.

Plain canned food! Meat portions less than an ounce.

  • Julieann L.

Eh. I went there for the hibachi on Christmas day and it wasn't that special. The fried rice and stir frys were fine, nothing spectacular, the sushi though, had a really frozen taste to it. It didn't upset my stomach but it was just meh. The service was okay. A bit slow with our drinks but not the super friendliest staff I've met. The decor in the hibachi room is HORRID! It was a dull color, picture frames were hang on crookedly, missing light bulbs, and I think a wall crack...

    6. This kills me to write this, as I think the food here is great; unfortunately, the food is only great when the restaurant is not overly busy, or too slow. When they are too busy, the service is bad, and the food is rushed and not cooked properly. When they are slow, the servers and people who ring in carry outs act as though they are doing you a favor to serve you once they FINALLY get up to address you at all. I use to love coming here, but until the service is dramatically changed, and the food is back up to par, I would suggest avoiding this place at all costs.

    (1)
  • John M.

Avoid this place at all costs if you "value your time" or "enjoy good service". My parents, fiancee, and I stopped at Shogun for lunch during the week. My fiancee and I had the sushi and my parents had the teppanyaki. The food was OK (nothing special). However, the service was terrible and the teppanyaki chef didn't even bother to phone it in. My main complaint with the place was that it took forever to get service. There were less than a dozen people in the restaurant but it took more than ten minutes to have our drink order taken. We were there for more than an hour before the teppanyaki chef came out to start cooking. The reason? The entire staff was sitting at a table in the Chinese restaurant eating. Seriously- everyone but the sushi chef was in there chilling out, talking, and eating. I wanted to leave, but my parents did not want to make a scene. Never again.

Always had good food here and never had bad experience. The sushi is good as my girl friend likes to have it. I enjoy hibachi more so we enjoy coming here. There are always coupons as well so you usually don't have to pay full price.

  • Mike G.

Not the friendliest staff but I looked past that. Food was ok, not great. About an hour after we left, my wife and I started to feel sick to our stomach. Ruined our night. I will not be back, even with the groupon offer.

I use to like this place until i tried to use a 10$ off coupon. I ordered more than the 40$ minimum and presented the 10$ off coupon. The coupon clearly states 10$ off 40$ or more. THATS IT. I take it up to the register and the won ton lady says "You order from authentic chinese menu, coupon no good"..first off no where on the coupon does it say must order from white people menu. i brought this to her attention and she says "use for next time." uhhhh nooo..im not coming back. Dragon Phoenix make lot of money, what 10$ hurt? NahhSing! Peace out on this joint. yeah im asian.

Enjoyed a nice saki and ate at the sushi bar after a long day. Service, presentation and prices were very good. Definitely will be back for more the next time I am in the area. 5 stars and well worth the stop.

Had a late night dinner here not too long ago. Food was good. Nice family ambiance here. Didn't get a chance to try their sushi yet, but for the price not bad at all. Portions can be shared nicely.

As long as you don't expect authentic you'll be fine, that and being squished into a table of 12 around the grill. I ordered the filet with scallops and white rice. I was served shrimp, scallops filet, and fried rice. Well as long as I wasn't paying for the fried rice ok cause the fried rice was nothing special or very flavorful. filet and seafood were cooked ok and the sauces were ok just nothing special. The one thing that brought this up to 3 stars was the plum wine, plus very clean restrooms.

Let me start by saying that I thoroughly enjoy Hibachi and my husband loves sushi. We went to Shoguns for my husbands birthday with some friends. I called and made a reservation for 7:30 on a Friday night to make sure we could get in. We arrived right on time and checked in. Upon arrival we were told it would be about 10 minutes. We were fine and went to the bar area. After waiting about 10 minutes there someone showed up to take orders. After 25-30 minutes we were finally seated. The only reason I selected this restaurant was because of the Entertainment app coupon I had for Buy 1 Get 1 Entree Free. I presented my membership card and app and the waitress was not able to take it, her coworker took it to check on it. When she came back she said I could have 10% off. I then showed her my app that states B1G1. She did not seem to understand. I told her I would like to see her manager (which I did not get to). She tried to leave with my phone and go talk to the manager. I stopped her from taking my property and she spoke to the manager without it. Upon returning she stated that 10% is the best they could do even after I clearly explained the coupon is for B1G1. Needless to say due to the length of waiting time and the poor customer service, I will not be going back to this restaurant again.

Love, love, love this place. Ever since buying a Groupon and trying this place, my boyfriend and I are addicted. The food is fantastic and at dinner, the chef puts in a little show as he cooks. Definitely recommend.

Shogun, shogun, shogun. So much to say... First of all, I've decided to boycott this place. They always give us SUCH a hard time with online coupons. Soo most places accept online coupons if you just show them your phone, right? Definitely not this place. After talking with the server and managers and explaining that we've been here quite a few times with large groups, they still wouldn't take it unless we had a printed copy. My husband and I were so frustrated that we decided to leave our group and find a nearby Kinko's...mostly to stick it to them, but also because we didn't want our clothes to smell gross from being in there & we weren't super hungry. We ended up finding a Meijer close by and had a 4x6 photo of the coupon printed, because Kinko's was closed. Thankfully they accepted it. Therefore, after having trouble with coupons all 3 times that I've been, even at different locations, I decided I don't ever want to go back again. When you're hanging out with people and make an impulse decision to go to Shogun, finding a printer is not always super easy to do...I just don't understand why you can't show your phone, like at pretty much every other restaurant. Anyway, it might be different if their food was spectacular or something, but it's not anything to write home about. The food is ok, especially if you're super hungry, but it didn't really wow me. The soup & salad were actually very tasty and much needed, since you have to wait awhile for your entree to be cooked on the hibachi grill. The cooks never seem that enthusiastic, and oftentimes food that you didn't order gets on your plate somehow. The portion sizes are big, but you do pay a lot. Overall, I would say that going here isn't worth it. Maybe once. Maybe. Plus your clothes & hair will smell REALLY bad when you leave. I haven't tried the "Chinese Bistro" portion of the restaurant, so I can't say anything about that.

HORRIBLE service waited 20 minutes for drinks another 30 for them to even Start cooking. Got burned teice when hot oil spalshed, the cookdid not seem very experienced. Couldnt even get refills or the check without waiting to spot a waitress and asking for it. Food was ok, but I definatly willnot be back, at $20 a plate youwouldthinkyou would get at least ok service.

Let me start by saying...this is how much I love chinese food. I refuse to call PF Changs and their lettuce wraps Chinese food. I refuse to call Sweet and Sour Pork and Chop Suey (Most likely from a can of LaChoy) Chinese food. Now having said that. I used to love this place when it was known as Dragon Phoenix and they had a Dim Sum Cart on Sundays...sad thing is...their Sunday Dim Sum was actually BETTER than the other local Dim Sum Stop Golden Harvest...Yeah..I said it. However, those days are WAY LONG GONE!!!! Now they focus on the Japanese section of the restaurant, which is sad..because it's one of the few places out there that actually serve Authentic Chinese and when I say Authentic, I don't mean Almond Boneless Chicken or ABC (American Basic Chinese). We went there for lunch today after not dining here for a couple of years and it was shockingly empty at 1:30. Now...this is shocking because ANY restaurant on Hall Rd. is NEVER empty...especially with the huge Sunday after church lunch crowd. However, the emptiness of the restaurant didn't dissuade us, it just made me happy we were able to sit our large party quickly and get our grub on. We ordered a few dishes like Fu Chow Style Fried Rice and Spicy Salted Squid, as well as Peking Style Pork Chops, Short Ribs in Black Pepper Sauce and Singapore Style Rice Noodle. There were a couple of other dishes we ordered, but they ran out of the Squid in XO Sauce. This particular dish disturbs me because this was on their house special section of the menu...how do you run out of one of your House Special items. It's like going to Burger King and they run out of Whoppers, or Tim Hortons and they run out of Donuts or...well...you get the point. If it's your house special, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE IT!!!! As I said, I remember this place as Dragon Phoenix and still find myself calling it so. I have to admit, I thought the food was going to be worse...but it was as good as I remember. I'm a huge fan of their Fu Chow Style Fried Rice, which is Fried Rice with Meats, Vegetables, and Scallops cooked in a sauce and placed on top. I would give it 4 stars, however, there were a couple of other dishes (Besides the aforementioned XO Squid) that they ran out of, like Deep Fried Shrimp Balls Now...here's where that's sad. This place wasn't that busy...so how do you run out of that food and not replenish it. Get some Shrimp, clean it, mince it, form it into balls, coat and fry...and VOILA!!!! FRESH SHRIMP BALLS. However, In the Macomb Area, there aren't many options for Authentic Chinese food. So definitely give this place a shot if you're into trying real chinese fare and not Almond Boneless Chicken and Sweet and Sour Pork. Also, you might need to ask for the authentic chinese menu, because I do think they have an "american" chinese menu. But also, look into alternates in case the items you ordered are not in stock.

Okay, I'll be fair. The food was good! (Except their sushi. ugh. I do not like their sushi) I've been here twice. I work near by and they have sushi so I went for lunch. They had been opened for a couple hours and I went in and wanted sushi and they all looked confused and scrambled to get someone at the sushi bar and then when they started unwrapping stuff... well my sushi tasted warm. (No tempura either) Which was odd to begin with but then my rolls both feel apart when I went to lightly dab them in the soy sauce. The second time was just horrible, service wise. I went with a group of people from work. Probably ten of us. Hibachi is really a great great place to go with a group. Well not to shogun, and only because of the wait staff. Drinks took 20 minutes or more, if we ever got them. Someone else clearly asked for a certain type of sushi and was given something completely different. They always have coupons in the JB Dollar saver, so I used a coupon. (Its tough times!) When I went to giver her the coupon she glanced at it and stomped away. Then she came back with my bill and the discount was wrong. Then she SNATCHED the coupon out of my hand, really really roughly and said they wouldnt take it. Now, I ordered really carefully to be in compliance with the coupon because I was trying to do it kind of on the down low with my coworkers. (which was dumb some of them had coupons too but whatever.) Well she ruined that because she started waiving them around in the air and going to get other people, speaking really loudly in her language and pointing at me rather accusingly. So finally, the other person realized that yeah I could totally use that coupon and everything would be fine. Then I realized I was lucky to get a bill because out of 8 people only six people did. One coworker said "Excuse me I didnt get my bill" and had money in her hand. The waitress took the money and disappeared. No change, no bill. I tried to complain at the register, but we were totally ignored. We weren't loud or disrespectful and didn't ask for anything odd. What the staff's problem was, I don't know. Again, hibachi was awesome. Everything else? Not so much. Good luck.

Very good food, especially the pan fried pot-stickers, the stir-fried noodles (chow fun?) and the Teppanyaki Grill is fun and tasty, if just a bit pricey. Aside from the grill area, the ambiance leaves a lot to be desired, but a lot of local Chinese restaurants are like that. The service wasn't outstanding during the numerous times we've been there, but they have always been very polite.

For birthday parties or big group outings, we usually always go to an Asian place. That Asian place used to be Golden Harvest. It still would be if the service was better or if they wouldn't pad the bill for every little thing and then some. Tried Shogun and it was much better. The food quality and the service. I think at most Asian restaurants, the waitresses are rather negligent and this was no different but I've gotten used to it. However, they were much better than I expected. We usually order off the special menu in the back of the menu.. where they have their special :3 dishes for $26... not bad at all (cheaper than Golden Harvest, I believe and the portions are larger). Favorite dishes: spicy salted squid, shrimp balls and tofu, and the fried fish in sweet and sour sauce. Just wish it wasn't so far away from me!

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting Knives flash as fast as lightning And it was a little bit frightening Shrimp fly with expert timing. Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh... Two things... 1) Be glad you only read it and didn't actually hear me sing it. My family was not so lucky after a bottle of hot Sake. 2) Yes, I did use a song about a Chinese Martial Art to introduce a review of a Japanese Teppanyaki grill. Inappropriate you say? Maybe? The history between the two cultures over the centuries indicate that there has not always been harmony. Given that Karate is actually an Okinawan blend of Chinese and Japanese martial arts, common ground can be found and no better example exists in Macomb County than the Shogun Japanese and Chinese Bistro. Under one roof stands a very good Chinese Restaurant combined with an even better Japanese Teppanyaki Grill and Sushi Bar. The Chinese Restaurant still has the name Dragon Phoenix on their menu's, although the sign has been removed from the building. The new sign features the Japanese side of the business with the name Shogun in lights and perhaps leads to what they think is their strength. I do enjoy the Dragon Phoenix's version of General Tso's Chicken is one of my favorites anywhere and combines well with excellent Hot & Sour soup. But the Shogun side of the house blew me away with outstanding service, and great food. It made it clear to me that Benihana is just another chain restaurant. I had the Filet Mignon/Scallops combination. My filet was prepared a perfect medium-rare as ordered. The Scallops were not pre-cut hockey pucks, but rather natural irregular shapes, tender and delicious. I went with my wife and two daughters and since two of them have taste pallets that are terra-firma biased, my oldest daughter and I enjoyed the Lion's share of the hibachi grilled shrimp appetizer. We also split a Spicy Tuna roll that was excellent. The girls all enjoyed various fruity Martini's, while I enjoyed a bottle(maybe more than one) of hot Sake which did assist me in proving that I can't carry a tune in a bucket, but I digress... The show was exceptional including a shrimp tail flipped into the chef's pocket and another flipped onto the top of his chef's hat which he tilted back where it dropped into a steel bowl he was holding behind his back. He beamed a huge smile when we all heard the tink of the tail hitting steel. Well played... I left well fed, entertained and enjoyed my surf and turf experience. The terra-firma duo enjoyed their Chicken Teriyaki as well. So, I have no qualms saying... Shogun, your Kung Fu is strong!

I was excited when my mom agreed to try this place. My husband is off at Navy OCS so I haven't had anyone to get sushi with. When we entered the restaurant the host asked "Chinese" or "Japanese." My mom was in the mood for Chinese so we were sat accordingly. I'm not going to waste your time with a long review. I've had better Chinese food at a take out place. I guess I was hoping for something a little more authentic. As for the sushi: The selection was pretty terrible. Many of their rolls are cooked (COOKED!!!) Deep fried fish/rice/seaweed does not equal sushi. Sorry, guys. I accidentally ordered the spicy tuna (chopped tuna with a spicy sauce)- I couldn't finish the roll. The fish didn't taste right. I guess my next sushi fix will be on the on the coast of wherever the Navy sends us.

Avoid this place, HORRIBLE customer service from manager at Macomb shogun this past weekend. Will never eat at this one again. Friend and I bought groupon to dine with each other and take kids out. We are not from same household nor were we doing one bill. Tell waitress about we each have groupon and she say we have to sit at separate tables to use groupon. Manager comes over and acts RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. There is not another soul in here and she tells us one of us has to sit 2 tables away from each other and adds on that it may take an hour for us to be served. After a back and forth plea to let us dine together, i decide to move two tables away. My kids were going to sit with their friends until more guest for that table. The manager has a very NASTY attitude and a RACIST tone and demeanor and threatens to call the police on us (2 African American moms and 4 kids 8yrs and younger) if my 4 year old and 6 year old didn't move to the new table and if my friends two kids didn't move and sit right next to her. More guest come and they never sat anyone else at my friends table and refused to cook me and my 2 kids food on the grill where my friend was sitting. At some point I go to talk to my friend as no cooks have started cooking and the manager comes over to tell me that I must sit at my table and not talk to my friend. Although this was my first visit at Macomb shogun, I have dined at St Clair Shores shogun and met moms up there with there kids and able to each use groupon as well as other guest at the table had groupons.......if this was the rule at Macomb.....good cutomer service would have been we only allow 1 groupon per table (which doesn't make sense) but will let you do it this one time and let us enjoy our moms outing with the kids. The manager walked by several times rolling her eyes and talking in her language as my kids sat with their friends. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!

Now, I only ordered take out, so I can not really speak about the service or atmosphere, but I found the food here to be very good. Judging by the crowd on a Wednesday night I would have to say the place is popular, which would leave me to believe the service is as good as the food, probably :)

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
