It's not great, but it's still very close to my heart. It's a once or twice a year trip to this coney island. It took me 22 years to finally see that it's no Tommy's (CA restaurant), but it will do. It's cheap and close to my relatives... but I do need to get downtown to the original Coney Island restaurants to see if they live up to their fame. Oh and surprisingly their greek salad is really good. Odd.

"One Bowl, plain, smothered" she screamed into the kitchen. I'm sorry...that was poetry she just hollered right? Whitman, Ericson, Dickenson? To me, "One bowl, Plain, smothered" are just words that you can't wait to hear when you land in Detroit. For you outsiders, what it translates to is simple: A bowl of Detroit Chili (YES, it's different here than anywhere else in the country) plain=no beans, smothered with raw onions. Damn, double yum for this. I drive straight to this place every time I'm doing business in Detroit. It's that unique. Sure the coney dogs are what everyone is coming for, and they are just so good it's wrong. Take one plain hot dog, bury it under an avalanche of plain chili, throw on some onions, a spurt of yellow mustard and with one bite you're youth is right back in front of you. These places are everywhere, so you don't have to go to the one in Utica. But go, find one, and go.

Was on my way to a day jam packed with errands & appointments. I knew I could grab a quick breakfast in a clean place. I ordered the Gyro Omelet with feta, which National does a nice job on. The server, whose name I've forgotten, was super efficient & even ran my to go box out to my car , which i left on the table. NOTE: this is the National Store where they always launch new items & try pilot programs. Now National at this location collects the tab/check at the table versus the line up at the cash register. I'm not sure what to make of it, as they have done it ehre for a year, & if it works it will be coming to a NCI near you

This for some reason is the runt in chain. Despite having a drive thru. They have screwed up order 3 of last 4 times and brought it back each time. I'd prefer the one by Van Dyke, 23 + Schoenherr and Garfield but this is convient just wish they would care more about us customers.

Every time I visit my Family in Macomb, we stop by over here. The hot dogs are good, fries are good, everything is good here but, it can use a bit of help in the clean booths and tables department... I mean I've found a paper napkin with chili and cheese in the seat, not my favorite way to start a meal - by seeing what the person before had. Enough with the not so good though! The I've had the breakfasts here super late and they're pretty darn tootin'! The hot dogs are good but, what makes 'em pop is the condiments and toppings they offer on 'em. I'd mention a chili cheese napkin... you'll need a few napkins because the Chili Cheese Dogs are loaded with both. You'll be able to have Chili Cheese Fries too, that's how they load it up. Decor is diner styling and has that 50's or so look and feel. The kitchen and prep stations are also open view which can be pretty neat if you're one to check things out while you wait. I know for a fact we'll end up coming here again next time I'm in town, it's habit now and the food is A-OK! National Coney needs to keep those booths a little neater though... SYOY

I love National Coney Island. I'm a simple gal. I'm proud to say that I've eaten at every one of their locations in the metro area. This is my favorite one. It's on the smaller side but the service and food are always really good. Most of the time our server is Nicole. She does a great job! Very personable and we're at the point now where she knows what we're going to order before we even sit down.

This rating is limited to comparing Coney vs. other coney style hot dog restaurants. I grew up in Michigan and this place is an absolute institution to me. Now that I have moved away, whenever I come back I always have one meal here each trip I come back. That meal is always: Two Coney's with everything (which means, hot dog in a steamed bun, chili with no beans, white onions chopped, a line of yellow mustard), order of cheese fries and a glass of milk large enough to actually create a kidney stone before you get up from the booth. The do a surprisingly good Greek salad and gyro, but for me that is like ordering fish at a stake house, I don't care if they do a nice job with it, order what the place is known for. This is a simple hot dog joint, you seat yourself, grab a booth, order a few dogs, which always come out fast and go tackle your day. Done. To Recap: The Good: Best Coney's I have ever had, service is fast and friendly and the prices are fair. The Bad: Nothing for me, I couldn't eat here everyday, but that isn't the point. The Band This Restaurant Most Resembles: Bob Segar. A Michigan classic through and through.

Yes I ate National Coney Island twice in a 6 day vacation. I love it. This is a nice location. Our waitress was pretty good even though we wanted 5 different checks and took up the middle of the restaurant. My coney dog with mustard and onions was delicious. My chili fries were so good. Honestly if I wasn't with four skinny 20 year olds I could have eaten a lot more food, but I held back. Too bad I have to wait another 12 months to have my favorite food of all time.

Its a national, food is always decent and the wait staff is generally pretty good. Get a Hani Combo if you never been there before.

Same typical National Coney Island. Love the hani delux and a strawberry milkshake! They also have a drivethru which is great if you're getting something on your way home or what not. Expect to wait about 5-10 minutes at the window it's a little slower- maybe it's more fresh? (Haha)

2.5 stars. It's an ok Coney for a quick breakfast. The portions are smaller than most places I go for breakfast. The hashbrowns were tasty but the serving was the size of a deck of cards. Service was good, so no complaints there. The one thing that bugged me was my plate had something on the rim, either old egg yoke or the cook was sloppy and got something on there when he dished up my eggs, it wasn't my yolk because my yolks were not broken.

I go here for breakfast once or twice most weekends, and sometimes another day during the week. Always fast, friendly service. Consistently good food. Highly recommended

Insects all over the place. In the food and all over the kitchen!!!! Do not eat there!!!!! Can't believe this place. When I complained they would not make it right!! Jeff Russell is the worst manager I have ever seen!
