We've been coming here for years and the food just gets better. The way they make their chicken for their chimichangas and burritos is beyond delicious, more of a carnitas-style chicken than just chicken cooked in broth and a few spices. I love the salsa, the chips are always fresh. Their guacamole is freshly made and they never have a problem supplying some lime wedges for someone who loves extra lime on everything like me! I've always found it to be clean. It's nice that they have some American food options on the menu since one of our kids does not like Mexican. The only thing I ding them on is that sometimes the waitstaff isn't the friendliest, but that has improved a lot in the past year.

Chips and Salsa are good! Service is excellent. Food is so/so! Margaritas, were 75/25. The chicken tortilla soup is of all things probably the best item that they serve. But, this is only when they have avocado's, which is only 80% of the time. Average food, when you are in the area and feel like Mexican, but would not go out of my way to eat their!

I would highly recommend this little hole in the wall, your best bet would be to get a carryout though... Just waiting forever to get a table and then waiting for your sever to take your order and then more waiting to get your food, its really easy to get annoyed by the disorganized staff. If you can look past all of those annoyances of waiting and watching the staff, go ahead and take your chances.

Nice authentic joint. I have visited twice already and really enjoy the food and ambience. The interior decor as you can imagine has a very Mexican theme displaying a variety of sombrero's on the wall. They are decently priced and offer a mountain of quality food for cheap. The cheese nachos and lunch special #7 (chicken enchilada and mexican rice) are phenomenal but as with any Mexican cuisine it can get a little greasy. They offer complimentary salsa and nachos which are quite addictive and if not controlled can fill you up prior to receiving the main course.

This place makes me smile. The people are always the same . The Mexican food is tasty and plentiful. I have to order the steamed spinach quesadilla dinner every time I eat there. And the crazy thing is , I don't love spinach. There are a couple things most Mexican restaurants don't have that Old Mexican does that stand out . 1) fresh to the table tortilla chips that are hot 2) and this one is a secret. You need to ask for the green salsa it is what makes everything better and spicier. I have been coming here since 1987 and even though ownership changes the recipes stay consistent Bravo Old Mexico !!!

Sooooooo dirty!!! This is the second time we've attempted to eat here and have found it to be dirty! At first glance our table looked clean, but when we sat down we saw sticky areas, a wet smear of what looked like sour cream... Our waitress briskly brought over silverware and sat them down before we could tell her about the mess... She wasn't going to take the silverware back and get us fresh... We had to ask and she actually seemed bothered by this. All I could think is if the dining area is dirty... What does the cooking/ washing area in the back, look like. We ordered soft shell beef tacos. You get two tacos, loaded with meat mixture, lettuce and cheese. Huge portion... Price appropriate. Unfortunately not our favorite beef mix ... Sweet, chunks of tomato and onion, very very wet. We had to eat them with forks. I love the beans with melted cheese... But meh on the dry- clumpy rice. Good chips and salsa a little thicker and milder than I like. I've gotten other items off of the menu for carry out and have been pleased, but this wasn't a good experience.. From service, to cleanliness

Well, I've been to this place more than a few times now (I love Mexican food, and this place is conveniently located for me - closer than some of the Mexican places I'd prefer, so occasionally I end up here). Given it a few tries and chances; I'd say I've been here maybe 8 times, over several years. I guess I would say that I'm usually reluctant to give less-than-positive reviews. But this style of "Mexican" food is very unimpressive, to me, and isn't what I've come to expect from good Mexican. A major issue I have with it is that the predominant flavors here are just tomato and *loads of black pepper*. Black pepper overkill, heavily used to season just about everything, like the rice, and the chicken -- instead of the other spices and flavors typically used in Mexican cuisine. It's really overwhelming (and too spicy for one of my kids, who doesn't have a problem eating at other Mexican places). Aside from that, there are other minor issues here, like the chips are strangely thick, bland, and a little off-flavored. The service is sort of curt and perfunctory (no smiles or sense of being welcomed, no offers to refill water or chips or anything other than what you have to call them over to ask for), and a little slow. I see someone else stated in a review here that the wait staff is "particularly subpar," and I'd have to agree with that. As far as positives? Well, I can't really think of much, sadly. I do like that they have some dishes (Bob's quesadilla, Southwestern quesadilla) which incorporate spinach, and that's a little different from most other places around here. So, a small point for menu variety and originality there. Not really enough to outweigh the stack of negatives I've found here over more than a few visits, though.

This place is very dirty and they let the grease get very old for the chips. Service also leaves a lot to be desired. I can't imagine what the kitchen is like since both the eating area and bar area were really dirty..yuck! If I could give less than one start I would. Never going back...

Very disappointed. Ordered the Deluxe Nachos. A lot of refried beans hardly any ground beef. Not authentic Mexican food. Will drive to mexican town next time. Will never come here again!

The best Mexican food I've had in the Detroit area, outside of the Mexican Village area, and I prefer Old Mexico to some of the those restaurants. And the restaurant has been consistently very good for years and years. The hotter salsa is much better than the mild. The chips are fresh and very good. Excellent tacos and nachos. Really, everything I've had there is very good.

Ugh! I was eating the chips and salsa and pulled out a long strand of hair from my mouth that was neither mine nor my husband's!! What more can I say other than my meal was cold when it arrived!

Loves it! Favorite Mexican place in town. I come all the time to grab lunch with my girls. Big fan of those home made chips they have! Always add salt. The salsa is simply divine. The wait staff is particularly subpar but always friendly. It takes ages to get your food so that is a downfall but the quality of the food does quite make up for it. I always get the tacos and I love them. The rice is delicious as well! The decor is quite cheesy but also charming at the same time. The liqueurs they offer are all very cheap-very Mexican drug cartel. Overall love this place and come quite frequently! If you're looking for some lovely Mexican in Livonia this is the best place.

I used to live in the Downriver area and if this is the best Mexican in this area the Mexican restaurants Downriver beat it hands down. Good service but the food had little seasoning and a lack of depth compared to the Mexican food I am used to.

Being from the downriver area, I grew up eating Taco Especial, Mexico Way, and my all time favorite, Mexican Garden. However, seven years ago I moved to Livonia and discovered Old Mexico. They quickly became my new favorite. From the first time I ate there, I fell in love with their chunky beef burritos. I have tried several different dishes and enjoy them all. I take the kids there all the time and have never had a meal we didn't love. The servers however are brutal, although there are one or two waitresses that do a good job. However, the food is definitely worth it. The prices are very reasonable. The place is somewhat small, so they do fill up quickly. The earlier you get there the better. I highly recommend this place. It is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Livonia.

I've determined what's really unfortunate with dining nowadays is that your either get: Great Food & Shitty Service -or- Shitty Food & Great Service. Rarely do you get Great Food AND Great Service! This place is the first; Great Food-Shitty Service. Since the dining room is tiny, it seems the staff gets overwhelmed quickly, and unfortunately the patron(s) are the ones that suffer. A little courtesy goes a long way. And the entire staff (servers, hostess & managment) needs to have a much greater SENSE OF URGENCY- AND SENSE of CLEANLINESS. (I'm thinking the Health Dept. would have a field day with this place!!)

When we first moved to Livonia we were pleased to find a Mexican restaurant right down the street. Our first attempt - food was average, nothing truly memorable. Salsa was kind of bland. The place was busy, so I wondered if we just ordered the wrong thing. Our waitress was horrible. I try to give the benefit of the doubt... but, I'm embarassed to say that we stiffed our disappearing waitress and gave the other waitress a couple bucks because she at least refilled our waters once. When we complained to the 16yo girl manning the cash register about bad service she said 'You know who's bad?' and pointed at her boyfriend/busboy and giggled. (insert eye roll) Banned! (we ban restaurants for certain periods of time if they piss us off) Jump forward 5 years, and it's a Sunday so El Coyote Loko isn't open and we're too lazy to drive to Mexican Fiesta II in Canton, and we sigh and say OK, let's try it. This time, not so bad. Good cheese crisp app. Nice bean combo. Attentive, friendly waitress. Not our favorite, but the ban has at least been lifted.

I just wonder how this restaurant rated as high as it did!?!?!? Even though the deco is very old and dirty, that did not stop us from trying it again. We thought that maybe they had an off-day and the food would be better. After all, we were regular customers at their old location in Detroit. Although, I remember somone telling me that the owners are different and to not expect the same quality. I knew I should have gone with my gut feeling! I tried this restaurant once more (right before the dinner rush) and regretted it. The server was good, but the wait time to get our food was once again, poor. The food was cold and horrible. The chips tasted as though they were reheated by the microwave where I thought my tooth was going to crack. When we left, we vowed never to return.

Best Mexican food in the Livonia/Plymouth/Canton/Northville area by far! I have been going there for 10 years or so, small and not the most clean place but the food is AMAZE-BALLS! (as my 12 year old would say). Fresh made taco shells, very good seasoning, always hot and fresh and they have a killer kiddy-cocktail! :)

I moved into the area a year ago and had been meaning to try this place for a while. The parking lot is always packed, which I thought was a good sign. I ignored the mother of all potholes in the driveway entrance and we went in. Even though there were multiple people in front of the hostess, she had to stop what she was doing to take phone orders, ignoring the people physically standing there. There were empty tables waiting to be cleaned, however, the wait time for them to be cleaned and to be seated was over 15 minutes. The strawberry margarita on the rocks was the best thing about the place. We waited ten minutes for menus, then waited for her to return with the drinks. I had a two year old with me and he was so hungry by this point that I had to take him for a walk outside while we waited for food because he wouldn't eat the chips and salsa. (I didn't blame him, the chips tasted extra hard like they'd been reheated.) My mother called to tell us the food had arrived. But when I got back, ONLY my son's food was there. And it was still smoking. So, he was impatient and wanted to eat, but I had to keep trying to cool it down some so that he COULD eat. I also had to flag down the waitress because there was no silverware or napkins so I couldn't cut up his chicken strips. He wouldn't eat the french fries which are his favorite food, because they were over cooked and he didn't like them. I tried them and they weren't good.. I finally got it cool enough and he started to eat and our food took an additional 10 minutes to come. I ordered the mexican sandwich. It was too salty, and I wasn't given or offered sour cream. When I flagged the waitress down again, I asked for the sour cream. That made the sandwich better. It took an equally long time to get the check so that we could pay and leave. We won't be back again.

Good margaritas, good salsa and chips! I had the beef flautas, which were just ok. The beef really needed something, but I'm not sure what.

Mom convinced me we should have dinner here tonight because she knows one of the workers. It was a cute, hole in the wall kinda joint. Clean, cozy, full bar and decent food. Its a Wednesday night and the place was packed! The food was very good but its not a place I would go out of my way to come back to. I ordered the special which included a chile relleno, chicken flauta and chicken enchilada with rice and beans. The flauta was flavorless, the relleno was HOT and the enchilada was sweet. It was an interesting combination. The beans were out of a can (icky) but the rice was very good and well seasoned. Mom ordered the special quesadilla with fresh spinach and the chicken enchilada meat. It looked really good but I didn't try it. Liked their chips and salsa a lot. So, like I said nothing particularly memorable or that I would have to have regularly but it was good and I would go back if someone in my party wanted to.

Definitely one of the best Mexican food in the area... Love their Botanas!

The goods: Chips were hot and crispy, and salsa was tasty. Hot was hardly hot, though. Good portions for the price. The place was busy, so it must be good , right? The bads: Right from the start, waitstaff was disinterested, and hardly attentive. Took forever to order, get anything, and pay. Combo plate was covered in cheese! Way too much! Verdict: With so many choices for mexican restaurants on the west side, there really is no reason for me to go back. Waitstaff needs to take some pride in what they do, and ease off the cheese!

What do I know from authentic, I live in Michigan and am from immigrants of Ireland. Authentic or not, this place is great! I have been here many times for lunch and I will tell you, they are fast and accommodating! You can sub the rice for beans with cheese or the beans with rice. The unlimited warm chips and salsa are very tasty as well. They have a plastic card on all the tables with about 8 lunch specials ranging from about 5 to 8 bucks as well as a full out menu. On top of that, they are always having some daily special that is about $4.50, so price wise you cannot go wrong! As far as service, from my experience it has always been fast, friendly and attentive. And don't let the small size of the establishment lead you to believe they are small in flavor, because my food has always been tasty! I give this little train that does, 5 stars!

So I've probably eaten at OM as much as any other Livonia restaurant over the last 12 years or so (probably neck-and-neck with Szechuan Empire, right down the street). In my experience, it's been rock-solid consistent. For that reason alone, I'm going to bump up what would have been 3 and a half stars for the food alone to a full four just for being exactly what I expect every time. I usually try not to eat the same thing every time at a restaurant, but I have to admit at OM I think I've had the same lunch special about 80% of the time. Must be a comfort food thing. * Beef enchilada-nicely seasoned roast beef (not ground) always moist and tender. * Ground beef taco- A word about the tacos. These are a little different than usual. Not the "authentic" kind with soft corn shells and cilantro and onion, but also not Taco-Bell style either. These seem to be soft corn shells that are filled and then deep fried, topped with cheese and lettuce. Yes, they're a little greasy, but they taste damn good. Don't come here for health food. *Mexican rice. Nothing special, but pretty good, especially after you hit it with a little of the (excellent) salsa. This special is $5.25 and a great value. I believe all of the lunch specials run from $4.75 to $6.25 and the portions are about right for the price. Certainly not skimpy. When I'm not getting the special I probably will be ordering the tamale dinner. Pork tamales topped with chili, also nicely spiced but not breathing fire. Also not exactly authentic, but most places don't do tamales that well. They're often too dry, so I end up hitting them with sauce anyway. These are more moist than most, but they still benefit from the addition of the chili. Also, as I mentioned, the salsa is very good, chips are fresh, and I've never had anyone charge me for an extra basket or additional salsa. Servers aren't exactly dancing in the aisles (well, the place is too small for aisles anyway) but they've always been quick and courteous, and you can generally get in and out in a half hour. A little cramped and dark, but generally clean. One of my top 5 favorite lunch spots in the area.

Oh my gosh.... seriously, I though that I've had some good Mexican food in my days, but geez louise!!! Apparently I haven't had any real Mexican food until I came here. This restaurant is a hole in the wall but its also a hidden treasure. You seat yourself and upon arrival, you get fresh tortilla chips and salsa which will blow your mind! Everytime my boyfriend and I go there, we get their nachos, which are the best! Their burittos, and hard taco's are amazing!!!!! Its definitely worth going to!

Great prices, great shredded beef, guac & chips and salsa.. And no you don't pay for the second (or third) basket!! So much better than the chain Mexican!! Love it here.

Went here with some friends for the first time on 7-17-2010. The chips were good, the salsa was incredible. The margaritas were watery and wimpy and the rest of the food was your typical drowning in cheese fare served up by so many so called authentic Mexican restaurants. If I was in the neighborhood, I might stop in for a chips and salsa fix but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again.

I invite one of those paranormal shows to figure out what supernatural phenomenon keeps people coming here and writing great reviews because it isn't the food or the service or the drinks. First off if you don't really know much about Mexican food or were perfectly happy eating at Chi-Chi's then seriously no judgment check the place out you might like it. The salsa and chips are OK but everything else is smothered in cheese and served with a large pile of shredded lettuce and not particularly authentic or flavorful. The drinks rank as some of the most expensive with the least amount of alcohol I have ever had. Curious when your restaurant is so small that the bar occupies a big chunk of the real estate. Service is always pretty glacial and never seems to vary in this aspect whether the place is busy or not. As it's so tiny it really doesn't make sense for things to take as long as they do. People continue to flock here and it is always packed and I will never understand why. I'd rather hit up one of metro areas taco trucks, or even Taco Bell frankly, and drink a 40 out of a paper bag if I wanted alcohol with my meal.

Delicious! The fresh guacamole, salsa and rice were amazing. Since i don't live near by I will have to make sure to come back whenever I am in the neighborhood. I had the chicken quesadilla and was very impressed. The only thing I didn't love was the extra thick chips but the salsa was so good that the chips were irrelevant. Can't go wrong here.

i used to go here all the time. the food quality is slacking and the wait staff is less than excited to be mingling with the public...except for mary she is excellent honestly if you want people to come back be friendly people!

  • Greg W.

This place is all about "expectations". If you are ready for a very simple, crowded dining room you will be happy. The food is good, the portions are large the guacamole is excellent. The bar makes great drinks. Everything on the menu is good. The chips are hot and fresh. The staff is efficient. We hit this place maybe once a month for either dine in or carry out. It kills me to pay those prices for carry out, but the guac and the chimis make it worth it.

  • Chris W.

I go here just for the salsa... Everything else is 3 out of 5. But their salsa and chips are 6 out of 5 stars. Servers are nice too

  • Jenny J.

Quite a delicious and tiny place to eat at! The salsa was wonderful - smokey, peppery and spicy. The chips were warm and tasted fresh. The chicken chimichanga was perfectly crisp and was served with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and tomatoes. The beans on the side were creamy and tasted homemade and the rice was fluffy, moist and flavorful which stood out since other places really let me down on these accents. The "super premium" margarita I had was really good, but served in a water glass packed with ice - too much and too little to drink. For $7 I felt like they could have used a real margarita glass and given me more drink for the money. Also, the basket the chips were served in didn't have a paper liner, so all the little chip bits fell out and were all over the table. This was messy and annoying! Overall, the food was good and the service was decent. The waitress seemed a little annoyed with everyone that night. Attention to the little details would bump my review up to 5 stars.

It is so hard to find a good, authentic Mexican restaurant! Typically, we go to On the Border for our Mexican fix (not authentic, but reasonable food and good atmosphere), but we decided to try out Old Mexico based on the suggestions on Yelp. I'm going to separate my review into two sections: (1) atmosphere and service and (2) food. For atmosphere and service, I would give the place 2 stars. I can't say the wait staff was what I would call friendly, or very efficient in serving us (especially upon entry). Also, the atmosphere was not the greatest, as the eating area feels more like a cheap pizzeria (all tables, no booths) than a real "restaurant". For food, I am giving Old Mexico 4 stars. I would say the quality of the food was quite good. It was on par with other "authentic" Mexican restaurants I've visited. I would say the prices are a bit higher than average, but the portions were quite large. One caveat though....if you get a "small" portion, it is VERY small (compared to the larges), yet only ~50 cents less in cost (which, IMO, is pretty crazy). Salsa was good, if a bit watery, and the chips were quite tasty. Overall it was a nice, authentic Mexican restaurant, but I think for the future I would only use it for carry out or a quick meal out.

Oh, Old Mexico. We have a love/hate relationship. The food is authentic and so good, that I keep going back, but your service is so poor each time that I find myself swearing I'll never go back. The chips are fried tortillas -- the way they're supposed to be. They're usually warm, slightly greasy and absolutely delicious. The salsa is perfect -- chunky and flavorful. You can ask for a spicier version if you want, but I don't think many people are aware of that. Refills on chips and salsa are free, so why do you charge for a side of jalepenos? A mystery... The botana is one of my favorites and a small is more than enough as a main course for two people. I love the Enchiladas Suiza with the verde sauce and sour cream. The Mexican Sandwich is one of my husband's favorites with chunks of beef, beans, cheese and flour tortillas with plenty of beef gravy. The tacos *are* authentic -- I grew up in Southern California, so believe me, I know. The corn tortillas are filled and then deep fried, so they're crispy and delicious. When I want *real* Mexican food, I prefer this place above all others for a fix (including Mexican town), but darn it, why can't they get the servers to provide good customer service? The restaurant is small and it's always busy so I guess that's why so many people order for carry-out. I have to believe that their business is so good, the waitstaff really could care less if *I* came back or not. I'd love to have Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible show up and give the place and their workers a "make over," but as long as people keep streaming in, they'll keep the status quo.

Great local Mexican joint that's more authentic than a lot of places. The best and strongest margaritas around, unless you really love sour mix in which case you will be disappointed. Great salsa, amazing rice, flavorful but not overly spicy shredded chicken (from what I can tell it's cooked in a mixture of tomatoes, roasted poblanos and black pepper), piles of meunster cheese. Can get busy but they do carryout as well if you don't feel like waiting.

  • Lynden G.

Was pretty impressed with this place. Very small seating area. Wait staff was nice and very quick with orders and chips/salsa. Portions are decent size. I was surprised when I wasnt given a whole plate of rice and beans with my tostadas, since most places do. But this is a good thing to me as I usually can't eat all if it after getting through all the other food ive ordered. I loved my tostadas with all the toppings and the guacamole was fresh (homemade?). I like the tacos better at Nibble Nook, but i would return here again to try some other things (like maybe a margarita).

First time i was here, sat down and waited for 15 minutes, no one came to our table, brought us water, or chips/salsa, and we left. Got carryout a few months later and wasn't too impressed. It was ok food, just less portions and more expensive than many of the other more authentic places around. The employees seemed understaffed and overworked... pay them more or hire another person if its an issue please.

Old Mexico, I love you so much. Huge portions, great food. My Mexican go to. Only thing that sucks is the size of the restaurant... My house is bigger. Good thing they have takeout :)

I had a great experience here! Check this out... Quick intro: I started a "Lunch Around the World Club" at work where a bunch of random foodies get together once a month to enjoy a different cuisine (non-commercialized chains) in good company. February, 2015 was Mexican cuisine and we chose Old Mexico. I knew this place was relatively small, so I called ahead the night before to let the restaurant know we would have 10 people coming. They readily confirmed they would be ready...then I learned the morning of our adventure that we would have 14 people. I called ahead and, again, they readily confirmed they would be ready. When we arrived, the restaurant was set up with the perfect amount of tables and chairs grouped together. Menus, ice water, chips and salsa and extra water pitchers were on the table. They were ready! Nearly all of us ordered the lunch specials and one ordered a Mexican sandwich. Everything came out looking fresh and tasty and the waitresses were ON TOP OF IT! [Tip: Their standard salsa is good with a yummy garlic taste. If you want a spicy salsa, you'll have to special request it. They gladly accommodated our requests.] I had the #7 combo and it was a good amount of food (with plenty of chicken) for the money. T-A-S-T-Y! They knew we were on a lunch break, so they efficiently handed each person our individual tabs as we wrapped up our meals. No pressure to leave (although the other diners probably enjoyed the quiet after we left) and the waitresses continued to make sure our empty plates were promptly removed and beverages were topped off when desired. That said, I'm not sure we could have even asked for better food or service here. The prices were very reasonable and ALL 14 people were happy. Do what!? Yep, that's what I said, all 14. I'll be back...with or without my peeps.

Wife and I have been eating food from here (mostly take out) for years. I love everything that I have had, my wife is a little pickier but she loves what she orders. Favs are Cheese Enchiladas, Guacamole Nachos, and the Chimichanga's are great if you dine in (they lose a bit of their crunch if you take home). I do like the beef burritos as well. Only had one issue that I remember; they accidentally gave our food to someone else named "Bob", and they were then out of Guacamole to fill our order (it was late). I noticed that they now go through the order to confirm the food which may have been a result of this type of issue.

Stopped in last night for margaritas, gauc and conversation. Small place. Small menu but good options. Full bar with a good selection of margaritas. The gauc was fresh and very good. Two salsa were brought out - one spicy, one mild. Neither had much flavor, other than the heat. Had to have the spicy replaced after my companion found a hair in it. Chips were thick, fried in house, it looks like. They were ok. The gauc, on a chip, dipped in the hot salsa proved to be a nice combination. Location is just east of Middlebelt on 5 mile rd. Don't wait for your server to cash you out. Walk up to the register or you will be there forever.

Mexican food is my absolute favorite and as someone who was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I will call myself an authority :) . I ordered a #3 lunch special which included 1 beef taco, 1 beef burrito & side of rice. I also ordered side of sour cream and guacamole at a whopping 2.25 for a little side of guac. Let's start there, the guac was obviously not fresh but packaged (yuck!) and too salty. The "beefy" burrito was made with shredded beef and very little flavor. The corn beef taco had more cheese than beef (no lettuce /tomatoes). Lastly, the rice tasted like white rice with tomato sauce and ketchup. Seriously, I could have spent $11.80 at Taco Bell, fed a friend and been more satisfied. This was a carry-out and the person who rung up the order was polite. Otherwise, I will spend my dough elsewhere.

I must have been to Old Mexico on an off night. I have seen this place for years and often said we should try it. So we did. On a Wednesday night,we walked in and the tiny place was packed. So far, so good. Order our go to Margarita and fajitas. We are ready to enjoy a really good small, local diner. Then come the chips and salsa. Greasy, glistening chips and so, so salsa. Ok, let's try the best part...Margarita! NOT...the mix they use is not good, but again that is a taste preference...let wait until the food arrives. Sadness with the fajitas...no sizzle and a pool of grease instead of the nice crispy bits of meat...a couple of pieces of onion and peppers. The only reason I gave a 3 star instead of the 2 it truly deserves, was that the staff was wonderful. I know this will anger the loyalists, but hey,it's an opinion. Rock on El Patio, El Coyote Locco and Las Palapas!

Eh, I'm just not impressed. I came by myself for lunch on a Tuesday and the place was SLAMMED with only two people running the whole store! From the time I sat down to when I got my food it was 45 minutes - and I merely ordered a small beef & cheese nachos. Service was friendly but very slow. Nachos were bland and I find the thick chips to be a chore to eat when your whole meal consists of them. Everything else I saw looked good so I'll maybe get carryout tacos or something.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant. ;; We moved about an hour away and have driven back simply for Old Mexico.

A very typical, local Mexican restaurant. The bean soup was surprising - and good! Tortilla chips are thicker than cantina- style, but very good all the same. Served warm. Excellent cantina salsa.

I live right down the street from Old Mexico and I've been eating here since I could remember. Very good Mexican food and great nachos and salsa dips.

Love this place! Good prices & good quality Mexican food. I gave it 4 stars because the staff isn't too friendly.

I love the lunch specials here. Good prices ($4-$7) for great food and outstanding service. They are great with substitutes, just incase the picky eaters are worried, and have a variety of everything. Salsa and chips are served for free and pair good with their drinks ;]

Drove past for a couple of years thought it was time to try out something so close to home. Don't often eat what passes for Mexican as it is usually fried and too cheesy. Will confess I am a fan of Taco Bell's Taco Salad (now called Fiesta Taco Salad and smaller every year); what can I say, it' a nice combo of salad and fixings. But the old Mexico combo here will not be a new favorite. All very bland. The taco was the best because the shell is fried, always makes stuff tasty, but that's not really saying much. I had the carryout so might that be a reason I couldn't identify the thing under the paper? Maybe an enchilda? Very soggy and I think cheesy. Dog liked it. They use queso cheese instead of cheddar, which is very mild. Had to keep putting taco sauce on stuff to get some taste. Guess they serve what most people here want to eat, but hardly "Mexican Cuisine'. No fish tacos here, bit hard to find anyway. Need to go to Mexican town probably.

We went here on a Tuesday night because the reviews looked decent and the location was ideal. Plus we were craving Mexican. So we pulled up to the tiny little building and parked in the small parking lot then proceeded to enter the nonexistent lobby area to be seated. The dining area was cramped, even for a Tuesday. Menu was pretty satisfying and had plenty to choose from. We decided to follow one recommendation and get the Guacamole Nachos, and we also ordered a wet burrito and enchilada (verde sauce) HOLY MOTHER OF MEXICO! The food was utterly fantastic. We had to switch tables because the plates and serving sizes were so large but we were completely fine with that! I would definitely, without a doubt, be back again. They really need to get a bigger place though!

We like this place soooo much that when we eat mexican elsewhere we compare it to here. The food is reasonably priced, the wait staff is friendly, the food is always large portioned and is very good. Its asmall place so there can be waits, but the important point about that statement is that there is a wait because the foodis good and worth waiting for! I hate writing such a good review because it just means im going to increase the wait time but what the heck....the place is that good!

Food was bland and service was poor. The chips were ridiculously thick and the salsa was strange.... but it's serviceable if you're not in the mood to stray too far from home. But I wouldn't dine in here... it's definitely a carry out kind of place. Update. I just downgraded this place because both hubby and I got sick later that night/the next day.

First let me say the servers was nice friendly and attentive the reason I gave only 1 star Is the food was not good it was just too salty it just didn't pop the tortilla chips was like bricks I did like the salsa and usually I'm not hard to please and I never leave food on my plate except for this time I'm pretty sure i won't be back

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
