    I grew up in this neighborhood and first went to Deluca's when it was called the Willow Bar and was basically a factory bar. Long ago it was remodeled and transformed into an italian eatery. If you are from out of town and looking for very good pizza, with a nice atmoshere from a local establishment, this is your place. Some of the 1 star reviews of this place make me laugh. I bet no one can do Italian like your long dead grandmother, so you spend your life in search Italian food that might bring home the memories of granny. Well it aint there or any where. Granny is dead, move on. People, there is a reason this place has a long wait time on weekends. It is probably the best pizza in town at a good price.

    While in town visiting family over the holidays, we decided to get out of the house and go out for pizza. My fiance fondly remembers Deluca's from back when he used to live in Lansing, so I was excited to try especially after checking out the reviews here. Unfortunately it was disappointing, even for my fiance. Some people I know love this kind of pizza. But for me, there was too much cheese, too much bread (especially for the deep dish), and a lack of fresh ingredients. I'm probably just spoiled coming from San Francisco but I will say that the service was excellent! Our server was totally on top of our every need... and though the pizza wasn't the best I've had, it certainly wasn't the worst.

    Let's just say it's really excellent Italian American food. The deep dish seafood pizza is to die for. So is the antipasto--not simply a tossed salad with meat in it, but slices of cheese, Italian deli meat, etc. My mouth is watering right now! You won't find many people locally who will diss this place--it's really good!

    I had read the various reviews of Deluca's on Yelp and other sites and had little to no expectations when hubby and I decided to finally try the place. First things first, I'm glad we made a reservation (which by the way are only taken during the week BUT no reservations are taken for Friday or Saturday nights so be prepared for a wait!) for a Thursday night dinner because the place was hopping! It is in a rougher part of town, but I think it adds to the mystique to this place. I felt like we were walking onto a Martin Scorsese movie set - lots of wood panelling, high vinyl booths and wood carvings -- old school with a touch of "Good Fellas". Our waitress was great, very friendly and prompt. She steered us in the right direction for appetizers (hubby and I shared three garlic sticks with cheese...yummy) and then we ordered the pizza. We were hungry but we weren't prepared for the behemoth that entered our world. Hubby is from Chicago so we went with the 14" deep dish with pepperoni, sausage, roasted garlic, green peppers and olive -- all the toppings were delish and fresh. Oh gawd, we should've asked for our waitress' advice on this one. Let's just say, we ended up eating the pizza for lunch and dinner for the next two days! It was so dense, the toppings spilling over and the cheese just oozing. I loved it as did my hubby (and he's a hard one to please!). All of this food for under $30 for the two of us. I can't wait for our next trip when we can try some of the other items on the menu (especially the pasta!).

    This place lived up the reputation and reviews on here! Great pizza! The server was friendly she seemed tired but was still attentive and our glasses never went dry. They have a few tv around so if you want to glance at the sporting event you can but they dont dominate the place either. Very nice "hidden gem".

    Great for take out, dining experience is lacking If you like your pizza and bread sticks extra cheesy and your service cold as ice then this is the place. The cheese sticks were just swimming in lake of cheesy goo and grease. On the first bite I found that the sticks were still frozen and the cheese was just melted on top. We told our server and got attitude as cold as our food. This place is busy and you can tell that they stopped trying to be nice a long time ago. Never once a smile from the hostess, no "thank you come again" from the manager and our server was hurried and frantic the entire time. Victims of their own success, Deluca's doesn't need to offer better service since they're serving a packed house of loyal customers every night except Sunday and sending out constant take out pizzas. The atmosphere could also use an update, most restaurants in this price range are a little nicer. The decor looks to be from 1980's with the fake marble and brass fixtures. If you can get past the service then you really will enjoy the pizza. The pizza options are extensive, wonderful variety and every pizza is done awesome every time. I keep coming back for the pizza but on the five occasions I have dined here I have always left feeling like they could so much better if they just cared enough to try. In the future I'll be sticking with the carry out.

    Best Pizza? Seriously? There is only one thing on the menu that even resembles pizza that is edible, hence it gets not one but two stars and that is the House Calzone. I honestly think, they use different dough, sacue and cheese in the calzone, than they use in their pizza. Last time we went there, we opted for pizza, which is unfunfortunate. The mushrooms were "canned" not fresh and some of them were black. Come on! The sauce was average at best and the crust tasted like a DiGiorno (in fact it looked pre-made by a pizza press and had those same ridges that you find on a frozen pizza). There was not a lot of cheese. The sausage was an emberassment for an italian restaurant (homemade? doubt it). The ground beef was ample but tasteless and poor quality. I honestly can say that I am shocked by the reviews here except for the couple like me that think that at best this is nothing more than a "C" grade pizza. Granted it is better than some of the chains, but not by much. I have had the ravioli in the past and that was also very dissapointing. Tasted like mushy Chefboyardee, not homemade. Ravioli should be al dente' standing up to the fork! Sorry Delucas. I'm not returning any time soon.

    I used to live just a three minute walk from this place - can't believe I moved. Hands down the BEST pizza I've ever had, and trust me I've had a LOT of pizza. It really does put Chicago to shame, it's deep but not too deep and just delicious - my pizza of choice with mushrooms and green olives plus an app of the yummy fried mushrooms was always killer. Sometimes I'd change it up for a moment and enjoy the famous spinach pizza with an unbelievable white sauce. I only wish this place delivered to Atlanta....sigh.

    the food here is PHENOMENAL. especially the pizza. best pizza in town, and it definitely competes with the likes of Chicago and NY. the service is decent. the staff is friendly. the decor is old/tired, but who cares. it's a dive in a rough part of town. but come prepared - MAKE RESERVATIONS FIRST! - as the standard wait here is well over TWO HOURS (it's been like this EVERY time I have been there, no matter what time of day or what day of the week, and sometimes even on the days that I have called ahead). do not be in a hurry, because you'll be here a LONG time, whether intentional (good food) or not (the wait). this place is very small/intimate, so it is always busy, and thus the parking lot is always full. sometimes you can find parking next door at the abandoned factory, but the cops will harrass you for parking there, so roll the dice. they are also VERY pricey. $22+ for a pizza. $18 for pasta. there is not much on the menu that is less than $15 - even the salads are that high. so bring ample cash with you. I was going to rate them a 5, but the horrendous wait time cost them a star. Deluca's, for the win.

    BEST PIZZA IN LANSING. PERIOD. Always crazy busy on weekend nights. Be prepared to wait. Decor used to be kinda dark and dismal, but recent redecoration has given it a significant face-lift. Update 07/2/07: The ham and pepperoni, while delicious, are salty, so if you go in that direction, remember to balance your toppings out with some veggies.

    We LOVE Deluca's food! The pizza is unquestionably the best in the greater Lansing area and gives pizza from other areas a definite run as well. Their garlic cheese sticks are nothing short of sinful - fresh bread loaded with cheese and garlic butter...yummy. The baked spaghetti, and combo plate are excellent as well. For a change, try the Patsy's salad. We add pepperoni and green olives, as well as sometimes hot capricola....yummy. Salad dressing could use a little more zip to them and the salad or soup served with the meals is so-so. But the prices are so reasonable, you can't hold that against it. And the food, at least main dishes and pizza, are an overall 5. I'm giving them a 4 due to an experience I had that was bad enough were it's warranted. One time upon ordering the Patsy Salad, I asked for the extras. Don't get me wrong, I EXPECT to pay extra for these things. But when the waitress brought them, they weren't on the salad so I said something. She mentioned it to the owner, who was standing pretty close to our table, and he turned into a complete jackass acting like we were trying to get out of the extra dollar or two. A little more decorum would have been nice as 1) Again, I expected to pay extra and he shouldn't of assumed I didn't as I told her when I ordered it was okay 2). He should be a little more conscious about the fact we were sitting two feet from where he was standing when asked. AND, even IF I hadn't said it was okay to charge extra, his words were not terribly hospitable for a restaurant owner and bordered on vulgar. We went on the Deluca boycott for almost a year due to this and it is still a pretty big turnoff. We still go, but it would be much more often if not for that.

    By mid-Michigan standards, this is a great pizza. It's not my style (New York slice all the way! Give me a thin crust, grease, and zest and I'm in heaven) but the pizza is noticeably made with quality fresh and plentiful ingredients. The price is right, and the pies are filling. As others have stated, there's a lot of cheese involved. Normally I'm not a huge fan of an extra cheesy pizza, but Deluca's offsets all that cheese with a ton of toppings. I recommend adding broccoli or spinach - tastes straight out of a garden unlike chain joints. This place tends to get busy toward dinner time, so I recommend stopping in for a long lunch on a weekday if you have the time. The staff was also really friendly/welcoming, and our server aced our picky customizations like a pro.

    The only thing stopping me from giving this joint 5 stars is the fact they don't use real mushrooms. Other than that the pizza is amazing and I love the potato/bacon pizza. I give that pie 5 stars. THe cookies they have in the display case are the size of my arse and you can share one with 3 people.

    I've heard a lot about this place and finally was close enough to stop and try it. The location looked kinda shady at first but I forgot all that once I got inside. Very nice inside, better than I expected. Nice sized menu with all the stuff you'd expect to see at an Italian restaurant. After looking through Yelp at the reviews and tips, I decided they were most famous for their pizza. The wife and I split an order of bruschetta for an appetizer. Good flavor all around. Then we split a 12 inch "house special" pizza with regular crust. It showed up chock full of toppings and plenty of cheese. Ham, pepperoni, onions, green peppers, tomatoes were piled high. Good flavored sauce and crust. Not dry or doughy, just right. A couple of waters to wash it all down and it cost us $23. We walked out with a few pieces of pizza to take home. Casual dining but your not outta place if you show up in a suit looking for wine either. I'd stop again if I'm in the area and looking for pizza but I'm not driving across town for it. 4 stars from the fat pizza loving kid in the corner!

    Afte reading the Yelp reviews for this place, my roommate and I were excited to try it. We love pizza and we have always heard great things about DeLuca's. Sadly, we walked away disappointed. The pizza was almost less than average. Flavorless cheese, boring sauce and crust. The deep dish pizza was not deep dish, but rather a regular pizza with loads of extra cheese. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us great service, but unfortunately I think Domino's is even better than DeLuca's.

    Deluca's Restaurant use to be our favorite place for Pizza. My wife now has a Gluten Alergy and cannot eat any Gluten and Deluca's Does Not offer any Gluten Free Pasta or Pizza so now we go to Cuginos in Grand Ledge. Sorry Deluca's that you have lost our business.

    I would absolutely eat at this traditional, local, family owned, Italian restaurant again. However, as some reviewers have mentioned- this is not health food. So, if you go there looking for something other than extreme cheese, sauce, meat, pasta combinations, you will most likely be disappointed. I have experience one lunch and one dinner at Deluca's, as well as 2 carry-out pizzas. Everything was quite good. I thought the lasagna was really excellent, but certainly a heavy dish. The bread that they serve with entrees is really great. The regular crust pizzas were good, but I have heard that people rave over the deep dish pizza- which I will get around to trying eventually. People have mentioned to me that sometimes there is quite a wait at Deluca's, but I have yet to experience that. Each time we have eaten in, it has been full and lively with less than a 10 minute wait.

    DeLuca's is an traditional Italian restaurant. That said, the food and service were perfect. We started with the meatball soup which was one of the best soups we've ever had!! I had the bruschetta pizza which was flavorful and the crust was not too thin, not too thick. I loved the fresh basil on top although I would have preferred that it be chopped as opposed to whole leaves. My daughter had the gnocchi w Alfredo. They made it just as she wanted (baked). The portion was huge and delicious. We finished with the cannoli which was fair. I've had cannolis from bakeries in New York and Boston's little Italy's so I'm jaded. But for the soup alone, we will be back.

    The service was prompt we were seated instantly. As we walked through the Resturant we noticed that this place is packed. Almost thought we were going to have to sit at the bar. We were seated in the back of the Resturant in a quite and cozy booth. After a few minutes our drink order was taken. Average response time for the drinks from our server Rachel. When she returned we ordered a 18 inch pizza (that could feed six people easily), topped with pepperoni ham mushroom roasted garlic and extra cheese. Just a hint ex-nay the extra cheese. Took 10 minutes for the return of our appetizer fried zucchini served with a pizza sauce that was perfect. Then another 10 minutes for the pizza which was delectable. Back to the comment on the cheese there was a ton but still cooked to perfection. Delicious but no room for desert this time. Definitely will return. Under 40 dollars for 2 or more. Service is awesome as they box your food for you when you are finished. Thank you guys.

    Try to make it a point to eat something different every time because everything has been good. The pizza and pastas are some of the best in Mid-Michigan. They sauces and cheeses are excellent and they make the majority of their menu in-house. Never disappointed.

    My husband, 6 year old son and I had dinner here last night. They were extremely busy with a 30+ minute wairt. Everything was delicious! Drinks were perfect, house salads were HUGE with yummy blue cheese dressing. Hubby and I shared the bruchetta pizza, which was crisp and fresh from the first bite to the last. Our server, Rachel, was prompt, friendly and made sure our experience was perfect. We love this place and she visit more often!

    After reading all the raving reviews along with a recommendation from a co-worker, I decided to try this place. I had high hopes for this place was expecting the pizza to be amazing, which it wasn't. It was good but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back just for the pizza. I tried the seafood pizza and the brushetta pizza; the brushetta pizza was better. I also tried the garlic bread (ok, but huge!), chicken wings (OK), and large sampler plate (OK, the poppers were really cheesy). We ordered some other things like the House pizza, Artichoke pizza, and Greek salad but I didn't try it. The proportions are large so you can easily share an item with someone. The prices are good. I would come back to try their pastas.

    Amazing, this place is a Mom and Pop place. I recommend going before dinner rush. It can get really crazy. I am a pizza snob and they have the best pizza and bread sticks that I have ever had in my life. We live a good hour away, but I always make sure anytime we are near Lansing to take my family for a very special treat.

    Hands down, this restaurant has the very best pizza in the entire nation. I've lived in 5 states and travel for work, so that's saying something! I swear by the House Special (Pepperoni, Ham, Mushrooms, Green Peppers, Onions & Tomatoes) with no meat. Okay...sometimes I cheat and eat the ham...but that's just how delicious this pizza is. Even a vegetarian breaks their rules for it!

    I have been here a few times. The pizza is pretty good and they load up toppings. I would give four stars except the last time we went, we ordered calamari and the portion was minuscule. We mentioned it as the server dropped it off, but no remedy was offered. Other than that our experiences here have been good. Nice family restaurant.

    Went here for the first time last week and the pizza is wonderful! For 3 adults it was only $17/person for a pizza, bottle of wine, and a salad entree. The whole waiting for a table with a little card system is a bit outdated, but clearly the priority is the food and not little updates. Excellent dinner experience!

    Not sure why people love this restaurant so much. I've had their pizza, breadsticks, and their pasta and everything is just absolutely drenched in cheese and grease. It's a little disgusting to be honest. You can't just drench something in cheese and claim to be the best Italian restaurant in Lansing. If you want tasteless food drenched in cheese and grease...and a heart attack, this is the place for you.

    Grease and salt. That's all this place is. DeLuca's was first recommended to me by a guy going in for lap band surgery. The last time I saw a friend was at DeLuca's, before his heart attack. I am not kidding on either of these accounts. See the latest models of walkers and oxygen concentrators. Marvel at the visible gastrointestinal distress. See people pair brie with Mountain Dew. Tip your plate over and take home a month's worth of cooking oil.

    Holy cheese, butter, and oil! People have raved about this spot, but I found the food way too rich, doughy, or fatty. Pure carbs here. Everything is the same color (white/beige/tan- just look at the pictures) and will make your body upset afterwards... Go here if you want to clog your arteries or simply if you enjoy an abundance of cheese.

    Easily the best restaurant in the state. I live an hour away and still visit this restaurant twice a month. The service is near perfect, the atmosphere is spectacular, and the food is sinfully delicious. You can literally pick anything on the menu and I can guarantee you that you'll love it.

    I ate at DeLuca's while on business in Lansing. There was a wait for a table, which I now find unbelievable, so I sat at the bar. I happened to be at the end of the bar near the window into the kitchen. Mistake. The conditions in there were totally unsanitary. One of the kids making pizzas had plastic gloves on. The rest did not. With bare hands they were picking up utensils, trays, etc. and then grabhing big handfuls of cheese from a bin. One guy wiped his nose with the back of his hand and then dipped it back into the cheese. This happened just as my pizza arrived and set the stage for what was to come next. I ordered a deep dish pizza. Can't help it New Yorkers. I'm a Chicago guy. As described in a post below, the center was uncooked. But, worse than that, the crust of the pizza was sitting in a pool of liquid on a metal tray making it soggy and totally unappetizing. Needless to say, this was my last trip. Number 2 out of 206 restaurants??? Come on Michigan. You can do better than this. The beer, however, was fine.

    We've heard about how amazing Deluca's is for quite a while. We weren't disappointed tonight. We started off with the bruschetta, which, for me, turned out to be the highlight of the meal. The bread was toasted well and the bruschetta was amazing. Followed that with a bowl of the potato/ham/cheese soup, which was pretty good. The entree was the combination plate, which included a cannelloni, three ravioli and a manicotti. After removing a fair amount of the overwhelming pile of cheese, I dug into the dish. Loved cannelloni and the ravioli, which both had a thick pasta shell. At this point I was pretty stuffed and slowing down, which may have contributed to my distaste for the manicotti, but I thought there was just too much ricotta and not enough pasta. Finished the meal with a cannoli, which was great. I'll definitely be back sometime to try their pizza, which I hear is legendary.

    Deluca's has the reputation of being the best Italian restaurant in Lansing. While I am no expert on Italian cuisine, I think this is pretty good. Their tomato sauce-based dishes are great. They are not heart attack on a plate, which is what I love the most about this place. I had the eggplant parmesan baked with spaghettini. It was outstanding and such generous portions that I had leftovers for lunch the next day. On my second visit, I had the spaghettini with pesto and added mushrooms for take-out. I wasn't as impressed with that. The sauce and pasta had been semi-tossed together and the pesto was kinda bland. My husband commented that it tasted like instant noodles (which cannot be a compliment). I was disappointed as I've always been a fan of pesto. But, will definitely not be ordering this again at Deluca's. My husband had the combination plate both times and loved it.

    Pizza, yes, one of the best pizzas I've ever had and I would challenge any place for this title. Pizza can be just pizza, but this is beyond what you would expect. I have never even thought about trying something else there because the pizza is so darn delicious. How can you tell if a restaurant can deliver taste the way it should be, one way is by the line out the door and the long wait, the other way is by ordering the pizza of your life and enjoying every bite, bite after bite. The best topping you can get, is the garlic cloves. It's not cut up or sliced, it's full roasted garlic cloves. I have never found another restaurant to offer full garlic cloves. It's a very good thing I don't live close to this place.

    Not the best. Definitely not the worst. Tried a carry-out pizza for the first time with garlic cloves, and a few other toppings. The garlic obviously added plenty of flavor. Disappointed in the how the toppings were haphazardly tossed onto the pizza...not spread proportionately...it was as if the person making it was very rushed and just chucked the toppings on and slammed it into the oven...made it a hassle to eat. It did not leave me feeling like I just ingested a sodium bomb. I will return for sure, but I would not run through a wall to get this pizza. It is a solid option for variety in a monotonous dining market.

    Old school place. Reminds me of the family joints I used to go in Dearborn as a kid. I asked them to make me a pizza "meaty meat with extra meat and triple cheese Chicago style", told the waitress to punch it in how she needed to to make it happen. The pizza they brought me was over 10 pounds and was amazing. Earned my loyalty for a lifetime with that.

    I hated the pizza. The crust was not soft. I almost think it was pre-fab. I really wanted to like this place, my husband's cousin kept raving about it. So the day finally came for us to go there for pizza, my favorite food. I was so dissapointed. That crust on our pizza was hard as a rock, not fresh. I will never go here again.

    I am always surprised at the reviews that say their service is friendly. I have gone to DeLuca's on and off for fifteen years at least. I work for the State, and we at times order many pizzas to go. They are good, and have a good following, but I think the house special is overkill. No one needs that much topping!! We went just recently as my husband had never been there. The services is still as awful as ever. I have tried to dine in for lunch, but the service is so slow, regardless of how busy they are, that I have to take it to go. Even if I order ahead, not ready. I preordered dinner the other night, had to wait about ten minutes, which wasn't a big deal, but it was because the staff was playing with the TV, and grabbing people to seat instead of those of us waiting to pick up and pay. At one point a woman came out, looked at the woman behind me, and said can I help you? What am I, invisible????

    My wife and I are so blessed to be Michigan State grads and even more blessed to find this pizza mecca while we were there. Back in the day, it was dark and smokey....big bad paintings of Italy on the walls and the bartenders never understood the idea of "liquor cost" because my Jack and coke was STOKED every time.....just nasty goodness. They have had a major makeover and we have been there about 3-4 times since then. We always strategize our arrival so as not to stand in the big depressing line of people waiting for a table....seriously, you would think you were in hell by how menacing people look while waiting for a table....Can't blame 'em. The cheesebreadsticks can be bought individually....does that give you an idea of the size and scope of what they got goin on? Butter and cheese being a religion here. The pizza is so kick ass that words escape me. I go there whenever I can....unfortunately whenever we go back up to see a Spartan game, we end up at El Azteco and gettin our burrito plate on... but every once in a while the old lady(sorry, "Best Wife Ever") will let us go get some of the best pizza on the planet. Anybody talkin smack must be a fired ex employee. This place is our family's idea of the best pizza we have had anywhere in the world. (Well, to be honest the Pizza Hut tasted pretty nice just because it was in Aruba, ya know?) Believe the hype and check this place out for the pizza. P.S.     Deluca's is the gold standard when it comes to lansing pizza. the wait can be long especially on the weekends and you might even get some hostile stares from people waiting for a table when you are trying to squeeze by them to grab a cary out pie, but deal with it, because the pizza is worth it. whole cloves of garlic as a topping, sounds weird but strangely good. just make sure you dont have to talk to anyone for the rest of the night!

    Had a group of 20 women. Everyone happy with their food. Choices were lasagna, ravioli, sandwiches, pizza, fettuccine, eggplant Parmesan. Ladies loved the sauces, pizza dough and pastas. Not sure why the family thereare not huge people, because, I'm sure we've consumed lot sof calories. Worth every bite. Service was excellent, salad was fresh. Love the family atmosphere. It was packed at lunch. Certainly a Lansing favorite!

    Disclaimer, I have only had their pizza but it it so darn good. The best in Lansing hands down. From the outside, it doesn't look like much as it is stuck on an industrial street but once you get inside you forget all that. I have had the pizza with artichokes, feta and roasted red peppers the last two times I have been there and for 19$, it simply cannot be beat. Hold that box with two hands or risk dropping it on the ground, these guys know how to put toppings on a pizza!!

    Best pizza in the county HANDS DOWN. I have been here well over 50 times and always got great pizza and great service. I have only strayed from the pizza menu several times for either a sub sandwich or egg plant parmigian and have always been impressed. Have only ever seen them use top quality toppings and real cheese. If you don't like cheese, this place isn't for you. If you like doughy, undercooked pizza crust and cheap imitation toppings, go somewhere else like Dominos or Hungry Howie.

    Slow service when the restaurant is less than half full. The waitress brought my son his pizza and then took five minutes to get him a plate to eat it off of. My vegetable calzone was basically a can of green olives and not much else. It had no spices so it tasted like salty olives and bitter tomatoes. My husband got the roast beef and said it tasted frozen and reheated. Now we've been there before and eaten pasta which was good. Apparently it's better to stick to a short list of foods at this place.

    My fiance and I went to Deluca's on Halloween because "it's the best pizza/Italian in Lansing/the world." If it seems suspicious that the best pizza in Lansing is the best pizza in the world, it's because that is a silly, silly, silly thing to say. Here are some similarly situated cities/restaurants that have significantly better pizza: - South Bend, Indiana (Rocco's, Bruno's, Barnaby's) - Gainesville, Florida (Satchell's, Leonardo's) The quality of the Italian food was about the same as the pizza: a little dry, greasy, and bland. None of this is to say that the place is terrible. It isn't. But if you go expecting the best pizza in the world or even the best food in Lansing, you are going to be sorely disappointed. There are many better places to eat in Lansing/East Lansing (i.e., Pablo's Panaderia, Thailand, Mumbai). As of yet, I don't feel informed enough the tell you what the best pizza in Lansing is, but I can confidently say that this isn't it. Visited October 2011

    DeLuca's pizza is okay, but overrated. I appreciate their variety of topping options, but some of them fall a little flat (... see what I did there? yeah?). For example, the spinach/white sauce pizza, which in theory sounds like it should be AWESOME, has pretty much tasted only like ricotta each time I've had it. Their crusts are also uniformly too doughy and not delightfully crisp like a proper pizza should be. That said, if I HAD to pick a place in Lansing to get pizza and was willing to spend the extra few bucks, I would probably still pick DeLuca's. Never thought I'd find something I missed about growing up in New Jersey, but pizza might be it...

    Honestly, I prefer Olive Garden. I'm not a fan of being served a salad on a plastic clear plate. I could get that at Big Boy. The ambiance is somewhat nice, it seems that they had a recent renovation, and the seats are comfortable. However, I had probably one of the most embarrassing moments of my life there. Let's just say, considering this place is often packed and often has a long wait time, they should have MORE THAN 2 STALLS in the women's bathroom. The food is okay, and it's an okay price. The wait staff isn't going to bs you with some Italian smarm like they do at Olive Garden, but at least you get those nice andes. Mmmm. Also, who wants to go eat at a restaurant that's right next to a junkyard? Only in Lansing....

Its got that paneled wall-grandmas basement type feel, which isn't always a bad thing. Get pizza with Garlic on it, this is the only place I know that puts WHOLE cloves on the pizza. yummmm

    I like Deluca's. It's got that dark and wood-paneled kinda ambiance, so I wouldn't say that it's surroundings are the highpoint, but the pizza is solid. Last time I went I got the 9 inch deep-dish pizza with pepperoni and extra cheese and it was really good. The cheese was delicious, the crust was a great texture, and the sauce was tasty as well. It was definitely too much pizza for one sitting, but it warmed up quite nicely the next day.

    I've been to DeLuca's four times now. I have regularly had bad service: servers are inattentive, the bartender doesn't make drinks very well, the hostess is makes no attempt whatsoever at being even marginally warm or friendly. The pizza is better than anywhere else around here, but still not very good. Jennifer S.'s treatise on DeLuca's pizza summarized my feelings perfectly. Everything is adorned with waaaay too much cheese. Piles and piles of cheese. Disgusting. Speaking of which, during my most recent visit, my wife and I ordered martinis on the rocks, which arrived with several dead fruit flies bobbing about inside. We were a bit nonplussed, but I knew that fruit flies are tricky little buggers and one or two probably fell in the bar's olive container. But the bartender, instead of throwing out the olives, made two more drinks from the SAME OLIVES. Thus, more fruit flies. The server explained halfheartedly that they had been having a "fruit fly problem." We settled for bottled beer (read: no possibility of being "infested") and ate a fairly tasty bruschetta pizza. One extra star for us not getting E. coli.

    SO SO GOOD! Seriously, delicious. Although it does not look like much on the outside, I recommend going to Deluca's whenever you need some homemade cheesy goodness. The spinach pizza is unbelievably delicious- think of spinach pie and fettucini alfredo having a beautiful pizza baby. It is the stuff dreams are made of. The service is fantastic. We are always seated quickly and drinks are always kept fresh and full. Make your tummy happy and visit!

    Had a team meeting in town and decided to try this long time local favorite for a casual team dinner. A bottle of Chianti for the table and ordered the cheese bread and mozzarella sticks for the table. The sides of marinara sauce and ranch dressing actually were good with the cheese bread. Then came the pizzas! Each person built their own pizza (9 inch thin and 10 inch deep dish). These individual pizzas were so big that one could have actually been shared between 2 people. To be terse...the pizzas are very good and actually rival some of the great pizza houses of Chicago and New York. No wonder, the place has been around for over 50 years! Who knew! If you want some good eats, a fair price and have a large group in Lansing...this is the spot! Note: The restaurant is tucked between a residential areas and an industrial area near train tracks. For a 7pm reservation on a Wednesday night, the parking lot was full. So make a earlier reservation for large groups.

    Very good. We ordered a large order here for our holiday gathering at work. I had not had this pizza before as I am new to the area. It was off the charts delicious. This is absolutely the best pizza I have had in Lansing. The only other place I've had better pizza was Chicago, and that's an impressive declaration since Chicago has the best pizza in the world. We also had salad, breadsticks, etc. Their meat pizza was the best.

    There are so many different ways to make pizza, but for me, this is the standard by which I judge all others. It's a standard Neapolitan-derived pizza with all the standard toppings available. It tastes great, is well-made, and filling enough for my family. The interior is basically a bar and restaurant that doesn't exactly exude fine dining elegance, but you can usually find the place packed for dinner service. Expect to wait a while unless you show up early. And I recommend coming early since the parking lot is a bit cramped. This place is on the edge of the industrial side of town, relatively close to the airport (for anyone in town for only a few hours). Like Randy G. earlier, I also have never had anything else off the menu here because the pizza is the showstopper.

    I will forever be loyal to Deluca's anytime I am in Lansing! It is my favorite local spot! They have delicious food, nice servers, and a great environment for either a family, a night out with friends, or a date night. Every item I've ever had there has been delicious, especially the Spinach Pizza (any kind of pizza, really) and the breadsticks with cheese! Absolutely delicious! No reservations on weekends, so be prepared to wait in line!

    We closed on our house in Lansing and needed some grub and our new neighbors said that Deluca's was the best pizza in Lansing. We decided to give it a try. Deluca's reminds me a 1970s family style restaurant. We didn't have reservations and it was prime time for dinner on a Thursday night, but we got a table right away. The hostess and waitress were very nice. We ordered a garlic loaf, small thin crust bruschetta pizza, and a small deep dish pizza. The food came out pretty quick, they gave me the wrong pizza, but immediately got the correct pizza with no hassle. The garlic loaf was nothing special, just a small loaf of bread with butter and garlic. The crust on the bruschetta pizza was kind of soggy and over all not that great. The deep dish pizza had a really good crust, but we ordered sausage on the pizza and it was terrible. It tasted like precooked frozen sausage. Our bill came out to $22 or something which is a great value. Bottom line: Would I go back to Deluca's? Maybe, if someone I was with really wanted to go. Would I recommend it to someone? No, probably not. Deluca's is ok pizza at a good price. I have been fortunate enough to eat a lot of great pizza while living in Chicago and traveling to New York and Deluca's just doesn't measure up.

    It's hard to discover Deluca's because of the obscure location in the middle of nowhere. However, the pizza is amazing and rivals some of the best I've ever had. Perfect for a night out with family and children. Menu is mostly Italian food, with the specialty being pizza. I also recommend the cheesy garlic bread. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekend nights.

    As good as a traditional Italian-American place deserves to be --this is a nice find in a city not really blessed with fine cuisine. Imagine a comfortable, well lit restaurant that has honest, well made, and inexpensively priced comfort food. All the traditional dishes you'd find at an Italian joint and with some terrific pizza to boot. Thats what youll find here. The group I went with ordered a few dishes but I got to try a couple. I ordered the lasagna, even added a meatball, and it was divine. Nothing like the monstrous gloppy mess I had at Rosebud in the Chicago area. This was a tried and true dish, very fresh tasting sauce, plenty of pasta sheets and a meat sauce that held together really well. The oozes of cheese never overpowered as they fully complemented all of those sheets, and the dish itself came in it a decent sized long ramekin-style dish. The meatball was plump and moist, not dried out or overly fried. The salad that came with it was really the only minus, as it was just leaves of iceberg. Iceberg is what you get nowadays since salads aren't a real priority in places like this. Which is a shame because I bet this place can turn out some good salads with more sophisticated greens. Arugula anyone? See? It doesn't quite roll off the tongue the same way that canoli does. The pizza was extremely good. NY style for sure but decently thick to hold up to the sauce. Sauce was very fresh and properly acidic and it counterbalanced the pepperoni and mushrooms well. The jalapenos we added as a topping were probably a bit much but they sure raided some good Mexican cans of this stuff --they were hot! We decided not to go with the traditional tiramisu cause we wanted something new. We fought over Aunt Louise's chocolate cake. Very scrumptious. Imagine: a big slab of a moist, honkingly good and double layer devils food cake. With a glistening chocolate ganache frosting. And THEN add a heaping drape of hot fudge topping. OK. now add the whipped cream, nice and freshly whipped (or so it felt like it). Then add a cherry and THEN STILL a scoop of vanilla ice cream. All this for like $4.95. An amazing bargain when you figure I paid $8 the night before at Zingerman's in Ann Arbor for a delicious but small pumpkin pie/tartlet. Yes, this dessert doesn't exactly say Italian, but bless Aunt Louise's heart for creating this most excellent of cakes. Service? Meh. I was there late so the bordering-on-diffident service from my server was to be expected.

    I've read these reviews and have a few comments. DeLuca's used to be The Willow Bar (it's on Willow Hwy.) and it was on the outskirts of Lansing, so the out-of-the-way feeling is legit. And I don't know if Padnos steel yard was there first or moved in after Willow Bar opened, but it's a non-issue, really. The steel yard doesn't affect the restaurant. I really enjoy DeLuca's pizza but find it expensive, so I only have it when we have a celebration at the office. Even though I only live a mile away, they don't deliver and it's costly. Their Italian food is pretty good but in my opinion, not great. I do enjoy the cannelloni, though. I will eat there again, without a doubt. PIZZA!!

    Food is mediocre, service was very mixed. This is definitely not a real Italian restaurant, its more Italian-style or Italian-American. Traditional Italian recipes have been blanded down and cheesed-up for the American palate. If you like Ragu Spaghetti Sauce or Chef Boyardee, you'll like Deluca's. The 4 of us were seated quickly, and our drinks and appetizers arrived quickly, but then it went downhill. The calamari appetizer was deep fried, but way overdone so all you could taste was the fried batter. The two dipping sauces (marinara and some kind of bland white sauce--really should offer aioli) were only OK. The Jalapeño Poppers were great however. Then we had a looooong wait for our entrees, which was surprising because it was a weeknight and the restaurant was only about half full. Our server eventually brought us some yummy bread rolls to tide us over... My 3 friends are long-time customers here and were happy with their entrees (House Calzone, Cannelloni, and Gnocchi with Chicken). I ordered the Fettuccini DeLuca and when it eventually arrived (after my 3 friends had been served) I was horrified to see brown, burned noodles and blackened clumps of cheese. I asked the server what happened to my food, and she said that the dish was supposed to be baked. Maybe so, but this looked more like it had been cremated. The server brought me a bowl of Alfredo sauce to see if that would loosen up those burned noodles, but since I couldn't even get them to twirl onto the fork asked for something else. I ordered the Cannelloni, and sat back to wait for it while my friends at their meals. Fortunately the Cannelloni escaped the patented Deluca incineration process, and it looked perfect. The flavor was only OK, though, a very uninspired sauce over mild Italian sausage stuffing. Since this seemed like the Meal That Would Never End, I spent a lot of time looking at what other people ordered. Many of the other tables ordered pizza, which I hear is this place's specialty. It sure looked good to me, so I will definitely try it next time. But if you love Italian food and have an opportunity to travel, try San Francisco's North Beach, NYC's Little Italy, or Boston's North End for for the real deal.

    The restaurant was #1 for italian in Lansing so when I was looking for good italian i decided to check it out... The reviews were glowing, so I was thinking at least i dont have to go to olive garden. Wow was their a disconnect between the reviews and the reality, I seriously wonder if all the reviews are from the Deluca family. I had that Patsy Salad which tasted like something i would eat at dennys. Then we had a pizza that was no better then Digorno. I am must admit I am a bit of a pizza snob but I was not expecting something this bad. But who knows, Lansing is a shithole so maybe its people will like it(joke).

    My gf and I stopped at this place while driving north for 4th of July weekend. We arrived around 8:30 on a Friday and had absolutely no wait getting in. The place smelled great. It really got me in the mood for some Italian. We split some cheese bread which was really good and cheesy. We decided to try the Taco Pizza. It was really good. It was cooked perfectly and the crust was great. Everything was reasonably priced. This may not be the best Italian food ever, but its a great place to eat at.

    Excellent food! We were impressed by the food for the reasonable price. The meatball soup was excellent, followed by the bruschetta, veal Parmesan, and then finally, the pizza. The bread for the bruschetta was excellent. Overall, the service was great. Despite ou waitress mixing up our order, the quality of the food and final price made up for it. We can't wait to come back!

    We went at 5:15 on a Friday night, and were seated right away. When we left at 6:30, however, there was a long line, so head over early since they don't take reservations on Fridays. The food was awesome. The two of us shared a small sampler plate with a variety of mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms, and stuffed and fried peppers (with marinara). It was a well portioned appetizer, and only $4.50. I ordered the vegetarian calzone, and my bf ordered the chicken parmesan. The parm was served with a nice side salad. Everything came out fresh and piping hot. The portions are huuuge. Definitely enough for two meals. My calzone was delicious, and filled with lots of veggies and cheese. The dough was different from what I expected of a calzone, but not to say that I didn't like it. It was more of a crust, but tasted fresh and crispy, and not heavy at all. Our dinner also came with a side of fresh home made garlic bread, which was delicious. We also shared one house cannoli, and the portion was pretty generous for that as well. After ALL that food, the bill came out to $23! The atmosphere in the restaurant was wonderful, although the building itself is in the middle of no where in Lansing. The service was great, and our waitress was very nice. And above all, the food was delicious. We are definitely going back to try more things from that menu.

    This little Italian place is kind of tucked away in Lansing but it's worth the find. ;) We had the House Special Pizza on a Friday night after waiting 5 minutes for a table. It was loaded with toppings & very good. Their dinner options are also pretty extensive. We were too stuffed to try the dessert though! The place was pretty busy but our waitress was really nice despite the fact someone had dined & dashed on her 5 minutes before... (people still do that here huh?) They have a wine list w. reasonable prices for some not too bad wines. The house rose wasn't bad, but the cabernet sauvignon was not good so we balanced out that evening! We'll likely go back to this laid back spot for more yummy pizza =)

    Deluca's used to be the best pizza. Now however it appears they've cut so many corners....all I can say it YUCK! Service was terrible, likely because we complained so much about our food. I will miss the old Deluca's! and will never go back!!

    Deluca's is a Lansing tradition. This was my first time here, and we arrived on a busy weekend night. The wait was about 40 minutes, so we all just chilled outside. We ordered some appetizers and 2 pizzas, the Deluxe, and the Meat Lovers. I will say this IS SOME FILLING PIZZA. I am so used to thin, NY-Style crust in Richmond, I almost forgot that things are different in the Midwest. People like pizza as a meal. The Meat pizza was good, but I have a feeling they just kind of "threw it together and in the oven" for quickness sake. I will be back next time I am in Lansing.

    My family has been eating hear for years. It is by far the best pizza I've had anywhere in the world. It's amazing. Get the house special and have them add roasted garlic. You won't be disappointed. No matter what day you go, it's always busy so be prepared to wait for a table. It's an old building in a rough part of town yet it isn't uncommon to have over an hour wait on a tuesday. The food is that good.

    Greatest pizza in Lansing. Awesome vegetarian options for such an old-school restaurant. Great for larger parties. No longer wait than any other popular restaurant in town. The servers are always nice, if somewhat frazzled looking. The bartenders must be drunk themselves because drinks are generally awful or just plain wrong. The whole place is pretty kitchy, but the food is awesome. I live in the area, so I actually prefer to order take-away. Never disappoints.

    If you want a quality pizza, this is your place. I dare you and a few friends to try and finish a large house special. For real, this is simply great pizza. The rest of their menu, I can't say I've really had too much exp. with. I've been told the pasta is good, and their salads are pretty big and tasty. Get some cheese sticks too, they don't skimp out on the cheese, that's for damn sure.

    A place that Tony Soprano would visit. A fantastic value - great prices and a great menu but stay away from the subpar house Chianti. The florentine pizza is wonderful as is anything with cheese - and you'll see lots of cheese, on everything. This is NOT high end dining or a quaint little getaway; rather, it's the kind of place that feels like a neighborhood eatery, very comfortable, old world dining right from the 50's.

    Most famous for the spinach pizza. It truly puts any pizza place I've visited in Chicago to shame. I haven't ventured out far from the pizza but what I have had has been good. The meatball soup is fun & tasty. The spamoni ice cream is light and refreshing. They've recently upgraded their opening wait area. The restaurant is dim and casual with a diverse crowd. Great place to grab pizza, a 1/2 carafe of wine, and great conversation.

    By mid-Michigan standards, this is a great pizza. It's not my style (New York slice all the way! Give me a thin crust, grease, and zest and I'm in heaven) but the pizza is noticeably made with quality fresh and plentiful ingredients. The price is right, and the pies are filling. As others have stated, there's a lot of cheese involved. Normally I'm not a huge fan of an extra cheesy pizza, but Deluca's offsets all that cheese with a ton of toppings. I recommend adding broccoli or spinach - tastes straight out of a garden unlike chain joints. This place tends to get busy toward dinner time, so I recommend stopping in for a long lunch on a weekday if you have the time. The staff was also really friendly/welcoming, and our server aced our picky customizations like a pro.

    I've heard a lot about this place and finally was close enough to stop and try it. The location looked kinda shady at first but I forgot all that once I got inside. Very nice inside, better than I expected. Nice sized menu with all the stuff you'd expect to see at an Italian restaurant. After looking through Yelp at the reviews and tips, I decided they were most famous for their pizza. The wife and I split an order of bruschetta for an appetizer. Good flavor all around. Then we split a 12 inch "house special" pizza with regular crust. It showed up chock full of toppings and plenty of cheese. Ham, pepperoni, onions, green peppers, tomatoes were piled high. Good flavored sauce and crust. Not dry or doughy, just right. A couple of waters to wash it all down and it cost us $23. We walked out with a few pieces of pizza to take home. Casual dining but your not outta place if you show up in a suit looking for wine either. I'd stop again if I'm in the area and looking for pizza but I'm not driving across town for it. 4 stars from the fat pizza loving kid in the corner!

    Afte reading the Yelp reviews for this place, my roommate and I were excited to try it. We love pizza and we have always heard great things about DeLuca's. Sadly, we walked away disappointed. The pizza was almost less than average. Flavorless cheese, boring sauce and crust. The deep dish pizza was not deep dish, but rather a regular pizza with loads of extra cheese. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us great service, but unfortunately I think Domino's is even better than DeLuca's.

    Deluca's Restaurant use to be our favorite place for Pizza. My wife now has a Gluten Alergy and cannot eat any Gluten and Deluca's Does Not offer any Gluten Free Pasta or Pizza so now we go to Cuginos in Grand Ledge. Sorry Deluca's that you have lost our business.

    My husband, 6 year old son and I had dinner here last night. They were extremely busy with a 30+ minute wairt. Everything was delicious! Drinks were perfect, house salads were HUGE with yummy blue cheese dressing. Hubby and I shared the bruchetta pizza, which was crisp and fresh from the first bite to the last. Our server, Rachel, was prompt, friendly and made sure our experience was perfect. We love this place and she visit more often!

    I would absolutely eat at this traditional, local, family owned, Italian restaurant again. However, as some reviewers have mentioned- this is not health food. So, if you go there looking for something other than extreme cheese, sauce, meat, pasta combinations, you will most likely be disappointed. I have experience one lunch and one dinner at Deluca's, as well as 2 carry-out pizzas. Everything was quite good. I thought the lasagna was really excellent, but certainly a heavy dish. The bread that they serve with entrees is really great. The regular crust pizzas were good, but I have heard that people rave over the deep dish pizza- which I will get around to trying eventually. People have mentioned to me that sometimes there is quite a wait at Deluca's, but I have yet to experience that. Each time we have eaten in, it has been full and lively with less than a 10 minute wait.

    DeLuca's is an traditional Italian restaurant. That said, the food and service were perfect. We started with the meatball soup which was one of the best soups we've ever had!! I had the bruschetta pizza which was flavorful and the crust was not too thin, not too thick. I loved the fresh basil on top although I would have preferred that it be chopped as opposed to whole leaves. My daughter had the gnocchi w Alfredo. They made it just as she wanted (baked). The portion was huge and delicious. We finished with the cannoli which was fair. I've had cannolis from bakeries in New York and Boston's little Italy's so I'm jaded. But for the soup alone, we will be back.

    The only thing stopping me from giving this joint 5 stars is the fact they don't use real mushrooms. Other than that the pizza is amazing and I love the potato/bacon pizza. I give that pie 5 stars. THe cookies they have in the display case are the size of my arse and you can share one with 3 people.

    The service was prompt we were seated instantly. As we walked through the Resturant we noticed that this place is packed. Almost thought we were going to have to sit at the bar. We were seated in the back of the Resturant in a quite and cozy booth. After a few minutes our drink order was taken. Average response time for the drinks from our server Rachel. When she returned we ordered a 18 inch pizza (that could feed six people easily), topped with pepperoni ham mushroom roasted garlic and extra cheese. Just a hint ex-nay the extra cheese. Took 10 minutes for the return of our appetizer fried zucchini served with a pizza sauce that was perfect. Then another 10 minutes for the pizza which was delectable. Back to the comment on the cheese there was a ton but still cooked to perfection. Delicious but no room for desert this time. Definitely will return. Under 40 dollars for 2 or more. Service is awesome as they box your food for you when you are finished. Thank you guys.

    Try to make it a point to eat something different every time because everything has been good. The pizza and pastas are some of the best in Mid-Michigan. They sauces and cheeses are excellent and they make the majority of their menu in-house. Never disappointed.

    After reading all the raving reviews along with a recommendation from a co-worker, I decided to try this place. I had high hopes for this place was expecting the pizza to be amazing, which it wasn't. It was good but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back just for the pizza. I tried the seafood pizza and the brushetta pizza; the brushetta pizza was better. I also tried the garlic bread (ok, but huge!), chicken wings (OK), and large sampler plate (OK, the poppers were really cheesy). We ordered some other things like the House pizza, Artichoke pizza, and Greek salad but I didn't try it. The proportions are large so you can easily share an item with someone. The prices are good. I would come back to try their pastas.

    Amazing, this place is a Mom and Pop place. I recommend going before dinner rush. It can get really crazy. I am a pizza snob and they have the best pizza and bread sticks that I have ever had in my life. We live a good hour away, but I always make sure anytime we are near Lansing to take my family for a very special treat.

    Hands down, this restaurant has the very best pizza in the entire nation. I've lived in 5 states and travel for work, so that's saying something! I swear by the House Special (Pepperoni, Ham, Mushrooms, Green Peppers, Onions & Tomatoes) with no meat. Okay...sometimes I cheat and eat the ham...but that's just how delicious this pizza is. Even a vegetarian breaks their rules for it!

    I have been here a few times. The pizza is pretty good and they load up toppings. I would give four stars except the last time we went, we ordered calamari and the portion was minuscule. We mentioned it as the server dropped it off, but no remedy was offered. Other than that our experiences here have been good. Nice family restaurant.

    Went here for the first time last week and the pizza is wonderful! For 3 adults it was only $17/person for a pizza, bottle of wine, and a salad entree. The whole waiting for a table with a little card system is a bit outdated, but clearly the priority is the food and not little updates. Excellent dinner experience!

    Not sure why people love this restaurant so much. I've had their pizza, breadsticks, and their pasta and everything is just absolutely drenched in cheese and grease. It's a little disgusting to be honest. You can't just drench something in cheese and claim to be the best Italian restaurant in Lansing. If you want tasteless food drenched in cheese and grease...and a heart attack, this is the place for you.

    Grease and salt. That's all this place is. DeLuca's was first recommended to me by a guy going in for lap band surgery. The last time I saw a friend was at DeLuca's, before his heart attack. I am not kidding on either of these accounts. See the latest models of walkers and oxygen concentrators. Marvel at the visible gastrointestinal distress. See people pair brie with Mountain Dew. Tip your plate over and take home a month's worth of cooking oil.

    Holy cheese, butter, and oil! People have raved about this spot, but I found the food way too rich, doughy, or fatty. Pure carbs here. Everything is the same color (white/beige/tan- just look at the pictures) and will make your body upset afterwards... Go here if you want to clog your arteries or simply if you enjoy an abundance of cheese.

    Easily the best restaurant in the state. I live an hour away and still visit this restaurant twice a month. The service is near perfect, the atmosphere is spectacular, and the food is sinfully delicious. You can literally pick anything on the menu and I can guarantee you that you'll love it.

    I ate at DeLuca's while on business in Lansing. There was a wait for a table, which I now find unbelievable, so I sat at the bar. I happened to be at the end of the bar near the window into the kitchen. Mistake. The conditions in there were totally unsanitary. One of the kids making pizzas had plastic gloves on. The rest did not. With bare hands they were picking up utensils, trays, etc. and then grabhing big handfuls of cheese from a bin. One guy wiped his nose with the back of his hand and then dipped it back into the cheese. This happened just as my pizza arrived and set the stage for what was to come next. I ordered a deep dish pizza. Can't help it New Yorkers. I'm a Chicago guy. As described in a post below, the center was uncooked. But, worse than that, the crust of the pizza was sitting in a pool of liquid on a metal tray making it soggy and totally unappetizing. Needless to say, this was my last trip. Number 2 out of 206 restaurants??? Come on Michigan. You can do better than this. The beer, however, was fine.

    We've heard about how amazing Deluca's is for quite a while. We weren't disappointed tonight. We started off with the bruschetta, which, for me, turned out to be the highlight of the meal. The bread was toasted well and the bruschetta was amazing. Followed that with a bowl of the potato/ham/cheese soup, which was pretty good. The entree was the combination plate, which included a cannelloni, three ravioli and a manicotti. After removing a fair amount of the overwhelming pile of cheese, I dug into the dish. Loved cannelloni and the ravioli, which both had a thick pasta shell. At this point I was pretty stuffed and slowing down, which may have contributed to my distaste for the manicotti, but I thought there was just too much ricotta and not enough pasta. Finished the meal with a cannoli, which was great. I'll definitely be back sometime to try their pizza, which I hear is legendary.

    Deluca's has the reputation of being the best Italian restaurant in Lansing. While I am no expert on Italian cuisine, I think this is pretty good. Their tomato sauce-based dishes are great. They are not heart attack on a plate, which is what I love the most about this place. I had the eggplant parmesan baked with spaghettini. It was outstanding and such generous portions that I had leftovers for lunch the next day. On my second visit, I had the spaghettini with pesto and added mushrooms for take-out. I wasn't as impressed with that. The sauce and pasta had been semi-tossed together and the pesto was kinda bland. My husband commented that it tasted like instant noodles (which cannot be a compliment). I was disappointed as I've always been a fan of pesto. But, will definitely not be ordering this again at Deluca's. My husband had the combination plate both times and loved it.

    Pizza, yes, one of the best pizzas I've ever had and I would challenge any place for this title. Pizza can be just pizza, but this is beyond what you would expect. I have never even thought about trying something else there because the pizza is so darn delicious. How can you tell if a restaurant can deliver taste the way it should be, one way is by the line out the door and the long wait, the other way is by ordering the pizza of your life and enjoying every bite, bite after bite. The best topping you can get, is the garlic cloves. It's not cut up or sliced, it's full roasted garlic cloves. I have never found another restaurant to offer full garlic cloves. It's a very good thing I don't live close to this place.

    Not the best. Definitely not the worst. Tried a carry-out pizza for the first time with garlic cloves, and a few other toppings. The garlic obviously added plenty of flavor. Disappointed in the how the toppings were haphazardly tossed onto the pizza...not spread proportionately...it was as if the person making it was very rushed and just chucked the toppings on and slammed it into the oven...made it a hassle to eat. It did not leave me feeling like I just ingested a sodium bomb. I will return for sure, but I would not run through a wall to get this pizza. It is a solid option for variety in a monotonous dining market.

    Old school place. Reminds me of the family joints I used to go in Dearborn as a kid. I asked them to make me a pizza "meaty meat with extra meat and triple cheese Chicago style", told the waitress to punch it in how she needed to to make it happen. The pizza they brought me was over 10 pounds and was amazing. Earned my loyalty for a lifetime with that.

    I hated the pizza. The crust was not soft. I almost think it was pre-fab. I really wanted to like this place, my husband's cousin kept raving about it. So the day finally came for us to go there for pizza, my favorite food. I was so dissapointed. That crust on our pizza was hard as a rock, not fresh. I will never go here again.

    I am always surprised at the reviews that say their service is friendly. I have gone to DeLuca's on and off for fifteen years at least. I work for the State, and we at times order many pizzas to go. They are good, and have a good following, but I think the house special is overkill. No one needs that much topping!! We went just recently as my husband had never been there. The services is still as awful as ever. I have tried to dine in for lunch, but the service is so slow, regardless of how busy they are, that I have to take it to go. Even if I order ahead, not ready. I preordered dinner the other night, had to wait about ten minutes, which wasn't a big deal, but it was because the staff was playing with the TV, and grabbing people to seat instead of those of us waiting to pick up and pay. At one point a woman came out, looked at the woman behind me, and said can I help you? What am I, invisible????

    My wife and I are so blessed to be Michigan State grads and even more blessed to find this pizza mecca while we were there. Back in the day, it was dark and smokey....big bad paintings of Italy on the walls and the bartenders never understood the idea of "liquor cost" because my Jack and coke was STOKED every time.....just nasty goodness. They have had a major makeover and we have been there about 3-4 times since then. We always strategize our arrival so as not to stand in the big depressing line of people waiting for a table....seriously, you would think you were in hell by how menacing people look while waiting for a table....Can't blame 'em. The cheesebreadsticks can be bought individually....does that give you an idea of the size and scope of what they got goin on? Butter and cheese being a religion here. The pizza is so kick ass that words escape me. I go there whenever I can....unfortunately whenever we go back up to see a Spartan game, we end up at El Azteco and gettin our burrito plate on... but every once in a while the old lady(sorry, "Best Wife Ever") will let us go get some of the best pizza on the planet. Anybody talkin smack must be a fired ex employee. This place is our family's idea of the best pizza we have had anywhere in the world. (Well, to be honest the Pizza Hut tasted pretty nice just because it was in Aruba, ya know?) Believe the hype and check this place out for the pizza. P.S.     Deluca's is the gold standard when it comes to lansing pizza. the wait can be long especially on the weekends and you might even get some hostile stares from people waiting for a table when you are trying to squeeze by them to grab a cary out pie, but deal with it, because the pizza is worth it. whole cloves of garlic as a topping, sounds weird but strangely good. just make sure you dont have to talk to anyone for the rest of the night!

    Had a group of 20 women. Everyone happy with their food. Choices were lasagna, ravioli, sandwiches, pizza, fettuccine, eggplant Parmesan. Ladies loved the sauces, pizza dough and pastas. Not sure why the family thereare not huge people, because, I'm sure we've consumed lot sof calories. Worth every bite. Service was excellent, salad was fresh. Love the family atmosphere. It was packed at lunch. Certainly a Lansing favorite!

    Disclaimer, I have only had their pizza but it it so darn good. The best in Lansing hands down. From the outside, it doesn't look like much as it is stuck on an industrial street but once you get inside you forget all that. I have had the pizza with artichokes, feta and roasted red peppers the last two times I have been there and for 19$, it simply cannot be beat. Hold that box with two hands or risk dropping it on the ground, these guys know how to put toppings on a pizza!!

    Best pizza in the county HANDS DOWN. I have been here well over 50 times and always got great pizza and great service. I have only strayed from the pizza menu several times for either a sub sandwich or egg plant parmigian and have always been impressed. Have only ever seen them use top quality toppings and real cheese. If you don't like cheese, this place isn't for you. If you like doughy, undercooked pizza crust and cheap imitation toppings, go somewhere else like Dominos or Hungry Howie.

    Slow service when the restaurant is less than half full. The waitress brought my son his pizza and then took five minutes to get him a plate to eat it off of. My vegetable calzone was basically a can of green olives and not much else. It had no spices so it tasted like salty olives and bitter tomatoes. My husband got the roast beef and said it tasted frozen and reheated. Now we've been there before and eaten pasta which was good. Apparently it's better to stick to a short list of foods at this place.

    My fiance and I went to Deluca's on Halloween because "it's the best pizza/Italian in Lansing/the world." If it seems suspicious that the best pizza in Lansing is the best pizza in the world, it's because that is a silly, silly, silly thing to say. Here are some similarly situated cities/restaurants that have significantly better pizza: - South Bend, Indiana (Rocco's, Bruno's, Barnaby's) - Gainesville, Florida (Satchell's, Leonardo's) The quality of the Italian food was about the same as the pizza: a little dry, greasy, and bland. None of this is to say that the place is terrible. It isn't. But if you go expecting the best pizza in the world or even the best food in Lansing, you are going to be sorely disappointed. There are many better places to eat in Lansing/East Lansing (i.e., Pablo's Panaderia, Thailand, Mumbai). As of yet, I don't feel informed enough the tell you what the best pizza in Lansing is, but I can confidently say that this isn't it. Visited October 2011

    DeLuca's pizza is okay, but overrated. I appreciate their variety of topping options, but some of them fall a little flat (... see what I did there? yeah?). For example, the spinach/white sauce pizza, which in theory sounds like it should be AWESOME, has pretty much tasted only like ricotta each time I've had it. Their crusts are also uniformly too doughy and not delightfully crisp like a proper pizza should be. That said, if I HAD to pick a place in Lansing to get pizza and was willing to spend the extra few bucks, I would probably still pick DeLuca's. Never thought I'd find something I missed about growing up in New Jersey, but pizza might be it...

    Honestly, I prefer Olive Garden. I'm not a fan of being served a salad on a plastic clear plate. I could get that at Big Boy. The ambiance is somewhat nice, it seems that they had a recent renovation, and the seats are comfortable. However, I had probably one of the most embarrassing moments of my life there. Let's just say, considering this place is often packed and often has a long wait time, they should have MORE THAN 2 STALLS in the women's bathroom. The food is okay, and it's an okay price. The wait staff isn't going to bs you with some Italian smarm like they do at Olive Garden, but at least you get those nice andes. Mmmm. Also, who wants to go eat at a restaurant that's right next to a junkyard? Only in Lansing....

    I think this is more like 3.5 stars. I've only been here a couple times, and always got the pizza. Its very good, but the restaurant could use a makeover. Its got that paneled wall-grandmas basement type feel, which isn't always a bad thing. Get pizza with Garlic on it, this is the only place I know that puts WHOLE cloves on the pizza. yummmm

    I like Deluca's. It's got that dark and wood-paneled kinda ambiance, so I wouldn't say that it's surroundings are the highpoint, but the pizza is solid. Last time I went I got the 9 inch deep-dish pizza with pepperoni and extra cheese and it was really good. The cheese was delicious, the crust was a great texture, and the sauce was tasty as well. It was definitely too much pizza for one sitting, but it warmed up quite nicely the next day.

    I've been to DeLuca's four times now. I have regularly had bad service: servers are inattentive, the bartender doesn't make drinks very well, the hostess is makes no attempt whatsoever at being even marginally warm or friendly. The pizza is better than anywhere else around here, but still not very good. Jennifer S.'s treatise on DeLuca's pizza summarized my feelings perfectly. Everything is adorned with waaaay too much cheese. Piles and piles of cheese. Disgusting. Speaking of which, during my most recent visit, my wife and I ordered martinis on the rocks, which arrived with several dead fruit flies bobbing about inside. We were a bit nonplussed, but I knew that fruit flies are tricky little buggers and one or two probably fell in the bar's olive container. But the bartender, instead of throwing out the olives, made two more drinks from the SAME OLIVES. Thus, more fruit flies. The server explained halfheartedly that they had been having a "fruit fly problem." We settled for bottled beer (read: no possibility of being "infested") and ate a fairly tasty bruschetta pizza. One extra star for us not getting E. coli.

    SO SO GOOD! Seriously, delicious. Although it does not look like much on the outside, I recommend going to Deluca's whenever you need some homemade cheesy goodness. The spinach pizza is unbelievably delicious- think of spinach pie and fettucini alfredo having a beautiful pizza baby. It is the stuff dreams are made of. The service is fantastic. We are always seated quickly and drinks are always kept fresh and full. Make your tummy happy and visit!

    Had a team meeting in town and decided to try this long time local favorite for a casual team dinner. A bottle of Chianti for the table and ordered the cheese bread and mozzarella sticks for the table. The sides of marinara sauce and ranch dressing actually were good with the cheese bread. Then came the pizzas! Each person built their own pizza (9 inch thin and 10 inch deep dish). These individual pizzas were so big that one could have actually been shared between 2 people. To be terse...the pizzas are very good and actually rival some of the great pizza houses of Chicago and New York. No wonder, the place has been around for over 50 years! Who knew! If you want some good eats, a fair price and have a large group in Lansing...this is the spot! Note: The restaurant is tucked between a residential areas and an industrial area near train tracks. For a 7pm reservation on a Wednesday night, the parking lot was full. So make a earlier reservation for large groups.

    OMG! Their food is soo good! I haven't had pizza like that since Wheeling, W.V. The service was top notch. I would go here at least once a week if i lived in Lansing. Get the whole roasted garlic cloves on your pizza, its worth the bad breath.

    Very good. We ordered a large order here for our holiday gathering at work. I had not had this pizza before as I am new to the area. It was off the charts delicious. This is absolutely the best pizza I have had in Lansing. The only other place I've had better pizza was Chicago, and that's an impressive declaration since Chicago has the best pizza in the world. We also had salad, breadsticks, etc. Their meat pizza was the best.

    There are so many different ways to make pizza, but for me, this is the standard by which I judge all others. It's a standard Neapolitan-derived pizza with all the standard toppings available. It tastes great, is well-made, and filling enough for my family. The interior is basically a bar and restaurant that doesn't exactly exude fine dining elegance, but you can usually find the place packed for dinner service. Expect to wait a while unless you show up early. And I recommend coming early since the parking lot is a bit cramped. This place is on the edge of the industrial side of town, relatively close to the airport (for anyone in town for only a few hours). Like Randy G. earlier, I also have never had anything else off the menu here because the pizza is the showstopper.

    I will forever be loyal to Deluca's anytime I am in Lansing! It is my favorite local spot! They have delicious food, nice servers, and a great environment for either a family, a night out with friends, or a date night. Every item I've ever had there has been delicious, especially the Spinach Pizza (any kind of pizza, really) and the breadsticks with cheese! Absolutely delicious! No reservations on weekends, so be prepared to wait in line!

    We closed on our house in Lansing and needed some grub and our new neighbors said that Deluca's was the best pizza in Lansing. We decided to give it a try. Deluca's reminds me a 1970s family style restaurant. We didn't have reservations and it was prime time for dinner on a Thursday night, but we got a table right away. The hostess and waitress were very nice. We ordered a garlic loaf, small thin crust bruschetta pizza, and a small deep dish pizza. The food came out pretty quick, they gave me the wrong pizza, but immediately got the correct pizza with no hassle. The garlic loaf was nothing special, just a small loaf of bread with butter and garlic. The crust on the bruschetta pizza was kind of soggy and over all not that great. The deep dish pizza had a really good crust, but we ordered sausage on the pizza and it was terrible. It tasted like precooked frozen sausage. Our bill came out to $22 or something which is a great value. Bottom line: Would I go back to Deluca's? Maybe, if someone I was with really wanted to go. Would I recommend it to someone? No, probably not. Deluca's is ok pizza at a good price. I have been fortunate enough to eat a lot of great pizza while living in Chicago and traveling to New York and Deluca's just doesn't measure up.

    It's hard to discover Deluca's because of the obscure location in the middle of nowhere. However, the pizza is amazing and rivals some of the best I've ever had. Perfect for a night out with family and children. Menu is mostly Italian food, with the specialty being pizza. I also recommend the cheesy garlic bread. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekend nights.

    As good as a traditional Italian-American place deserves to be --this is a nice find in a city not really blessed with fine cuisine. Imagine a comfortable, well lit restaurant that has honest, well made, and inexpensively priced comfort food. All the traditional dishes you'd find at an Italian joint and with some terrific pizza to boot. Thats what youll find here. The group I went with ordered a few dishes but I got to try a couple. I ordered the lasagna, even added a meatball, and it was divine. Nothing like the monstrous gloppy mess I had at Rosebud in the Chicago area. This was a tried and true dish, very fresh tasting sauce, plenty of pasta sheets and a meat sauce that held together really well. The oozes of cheese never overpowered as they fully complemented all of those sheets, and the dish itself came in it a decent sized long ramekin-style dish. The meatball was plump and moist, not dried out or overly fried. The salad that came with it was really the only minus, as it was just leaves of iceberg. Iceberg is what you get nowadays since salads aren't a real priority in places like this. Which is a shame because I bet this place can turn out some good salads with more sophisticated greens. Arugula anyone? See? It doesn't quite roll off the tongue the same way that canoli does. The pizza was extremely good. NY style for sure but decently thick to hold up to the sauce. Sauce was very fresh and properly acidic and it counterbalanced the pepperoni and mushrooms well. The jalapenos we added as a topping were probably a bit much but they sure raided some good Mexican cans of this stuff --they were hot! We decided not to go with the traditional tiramisu cause we wanted something new. We fought over Aunt Louise's chocolate cake. Very scrumptious. Imagine: a big slab of a moist, honkingly good and double layer devils food cake. With a glistening chocolate ganache frosting. And THEN add a heaping drape of hot fudge topping. OK. now add the whipped cream, nice and freshly whipped (or so it felt like it). Then add a cherry and THEN STILL a scoop of vanilla ice cream. All this for like $4.95. An amazing bargain when you figure I paid $8 the night before at Zingerman's in Ann Arbor for a delicious but small pumpkin pie/tartlet. Yes, this dessert doesn't exactly say Italian, but bless Aunt Louise's heart for creating this most excellent of cakes. Service? Meh. I was there late so the bordering-on-diffident service from my server was to be expected.

    I've read these reviews and have a few comments. DeLuca's used to be The Willow Bar (it's on Willow Hwy.) and it was on the outskirts of Lansing, so the out-of-the-way feeling is legit. And I don't know if Padnos steel yard was there first or moved in after Willow Bar opened, but it's a non-issue, really. The steel yard doesn't affect the restaurant. I really enjoy DeLuca's pizza but find it expensive, so I only have it when we have a celebration at the office. Even though I only live a mile away, they don't deliver and it's costly. Their Italian food is pretty good but in my opinion, not great. I do enjoy the cannelloni, though. I will eat there again, without a doubt. PIZZA!!

If someone likes this pizza it speaks to the overall lack of good pizza in Lansing. It's NOT a pizza town for sure. Other chain pizzerias in town are much better.

    Food is mediocre, service was very mixed. This is definitely not a real Italian restaurant, its more Italian-style or Italian-American. Traditional Italian recipes have been blanded down and cheesed-up for the American palate. If you like Ragu Spaghetti Sauce or Chef Boyardee, you'll like Deluca's. The 4 of us were seated quickly, and our drinks and appetizers arrived quickly, but then it went downhill. The calamari appetizer was deep fried, but way overdone so all you could taste was the fried batter. The two dipping sauces (marinara and some kind of bland white sauce--really should offer aioli) were only OK. The Jalapeño Poppers were great however. Then we had a looooong wait for our entrees, which was surprising because it was a weeknight and the restaurant was only about half full. Our server eventually brought us some yummy bread rolls to tide us over... My 3 friends are long-time customers here and were happy with their entrees (House Calzone, Cannelloni, and Gnocchi with Chicken). I ordered the Fettuccini DeLuca and when it eventually arrived (after my 3 friends had been served) I was horrified to see brown, burned noodles and blackened clumps of cheese. I asked the server what happened to my food, and she said that the dish was supposed to be baked. Maybe so, but this looked more like it had been cremated. The server brought me a bowl of Alfredo sauce to see if that would loosen up those burned noodles, but since I couldn't even get them to twirl onto the fork asked for something else. I ordered the Cannelloni, and sat back to wait for it while my friends at their meals. Fortunately the Cannelloni escaped the patented Deluca incineration process, and it looked perfect. The flavor was only OK, though, a very uninspired sauce over mild Italian sausage stuffing. Since this seemed like the Meal That Would Never End, I spent a lot of time looking at what other people ordered. Many of the other tables ordered pizza, which I hear is this place's specialty. It sure looked good to me, so I will definitely try it next time. But if you love Italian food and have an opportunity to travel, try San Francisco's North Beach, NYC's Little Italy, or Boston's North End for for the real deal.

    The restaurant was #1 for italian in Lansing so when I was looking for good italian i decided to check it out... The reviews were glowing, so I was thinking at least i dont have to go to olive garden. Wow was their a disconnect between the reviews and the reality, I seriously wonder if all the reviews are from the Deluca family. I had that Patsy Salad which tasted like something i would eat at dennys. Then we had a pizza that was no better then Digorno. I am must admit I am a bit of a pizza snob but I was not expecting something this bad. But who knows, Lansing is a shithole so maybe its people will like it(joke).

    My gf and I stopped at this place while driving north for 4th of July weekend. We arrived around 8:30 on a Friday and had absolutely no wait getting in. The place smelled great. It really got me in the mood for some Italian. We split some cheese bread which was really good and cheesy. We decided to try the Taco Pizza. It was really good. It was cooked perfectly and the crust was great. Everything was reasonably priced. This may not be the best Italian food ever, but its a great place to eat at.

    Excellent food! We were impressed by the food for the reasonable price. The meatball soup was excellent, followed by the bruschetta, veal Parmesan, and then finally, the pizza. The bread for the bruschetta was excellent. Overall, the service was great. Despite ou waitress mixing up our order, the quality of the food and final price made up for it. We can't wait to come back!

    We went at 5:15 on a Friday night, and were seated right away. When we left at 6:30, however, there was a long line, so head over early since they don't take reservations on Fridays. The food was awesome. The two of us shared a small sampler plate with a variety of mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms, and stuffed and fried peppers (with marinara). It was a well portioned appetizer, and only $4.50. I ordered the vegetarian calzone, and my bf ordered the chicken parmesan. The parm was served with a nice side salad. Everything came out fresh and piping hot. The portions are huuuge. Definitely enough for two meals. My calzone was delicious, and filled with lots of veggies and cheese. The dough was different from what I expected of a calzone, but not to say that I didn't like it. It was more of a crust, but tasted fresh and crispy, and not heavy at all. Our dinner also came with a side of fresh home made garlic bread, which was delicious. We also shared one house cannoli, and the portion was pretty generous for that as well. After ALL that food, the bill came out to $23! The atmosphere in the restaurant was wonderful, although the building itself is in the middle of no where in Lansing. The service was great, and our waitress was very nice. And above all, the food was delicious. We are definitely going back to try more things from that menu.

    This little Italian place is kind of tucked away in Lansing but it's worth the find. ;) We had the House Special Pizza on a Friday night after waiting 5 minutes for a table. It was loaded with toppings & very good. Their dinner options are also pretty extensive. We were too stuffed to try the dessert though! The place was pretty busy but our waitress was really nice despite the fact someone had dined & dashed on her 5 minutes before... (people still do that here huh?) They have a wine list w. reasonable prices for some not too bad wines. The house rose wasn't bad, but the cabernet sauvignon was not good so we balanced out that evening! We'll likely go back to this laid back spot for more yummy pizza =)

    Deluca's is a Lansing tradition. This was my first time here, and we arrived on a busy weekend night. The wait was about 40 minutes, so we all just chilled outside. We ordered some appetizers and 2 pizzas, the Deluxe, and the Meat Lovers. I will say this IS SOME FILLING PIZZA. I am so used to thin, NY-Style crust in Richmond, I almost forgot that things are different in the Midwest. People like pizza as a meal. The Meat pizza was good, but I have a feeling they just kind of "threw it together and in the oven" for quickness sake. I will be back next time I am in Lansing.

    My family has been eating hear for years. It is by far the best pizza I've had anywhere in the world. It's amazing. Get the house special and have them add roasted garlic. You won't be disappointed. No matter what day you go, it's always busy so be prepared to wait for a table. It's an old building in a rough part of town yet it isn't uncommon to have over an hour wait on a tuesday. The food is that good.

    Greatest pizza in Lansing. Awesome vegetarian options for such an old-school restaurant. Great for larger parties. No longer wait than any other popular restaurant in town. The servers are always nice, if somewhat frazzled looking. The bartenders must be drunk themselves because drinks are generally awful or just plain wrong. The whole place is pretty kitchy, but the food is awesome. I live in the area, so I actually prefer to order take-away. Never disappoints.

    If you want a quality pizza, this is your place. I dare you and a few friends to try and finish a large house special. For real, this is simply great pizza. The rest of their menu, I can't say I've really had too much exp. with. I've been told the pasta is good, and their salads are pretty big and tasty. Get some cheese sticks too, they don't skimp out on the cheese, that's for damn sure.

    A place that Tony Soprano would visit. A fantastic value - great prices and a great menu but stay away from the subpar house Chianti. The florentine pizza is wonderful as is anything with cheese - and you'll see lots of cheese, on everything. This is NOT high end dining or a quaint little getaway; rather, it's the kind of place that feels like a neighborhood eatery, very comfortable, old world dining right from the 50's.

    Most famous for the spinach pizza. It truly puts any pizza place I've visited in Chicago to shame. I haven't ventured out far from the pizza but what I have had has been good. The meatball soup is fun & tasty. The spamoni ice cream is light and refreshing. They've recently upgraded their opening wait area. The restaurant is dim and casual with a diverse crowd. Great place to grab pizza, a 1/2 carafe of wine, and great conversation.

    I grew up in this neighborhood and first went to Deluca's when it was called the Willow Bar and was basically a factory bar. Long ago it was remodeled and transformed into an italian eatery. If you are from out of town and looking for very good pizza, with a nice atmoshere from a local establishment, this is your place. Some of the 1 star reviews of this place make me laugh. I bet no one can do Italian like your long dead grandmother, so you spend your life in search Italian food that might bring home the memories of granny. Well it aint there or any where. Granny is dead, move on. People, there is a reason this place has a long wait time on weekends. It is probably the best pizza in town at a good price.

    While in town visiting family over the holidays, we decided to get out of the house and go out for pizza. My fiance fondly remembers Deluca's from back when he used to live in Lansing, so I was excited to try especially after checking out the reviews here. Unfortunately it was disappointing, even for my fiance. Some people I know love this kind of pizza. But for me, there was too much cheese, too much bread (especially for the deep dish), and a lack of fresh ingredients. I'm probably just spoiled coming from San Francisco but I will say that the service was excellent! Our server was totally on top of our every need... and though the pizza wasn't the best I've had, it certainly wasn't the worst.

    Let's just say it's really excellent Italian American food. The deep dish seafood pizza is to die for. So is the antipasto--not simply a tossed salad with meat in it, but slices of cheese, Italian deli meat, etc. My mouth is watering right now! You won't find many people locally who will diss this place--it's really good!

    I had read the various reviews of Deluca's on Yelp and other sites and had little to no expectations when hubby and I decided to finally try the place. First things first, I'm glad we made a reservation (which by the way are only taken during the week BUT no reservations are taken for Friday or Saturday nights so be prepared for a wait!) for a Thursday night dinner because the place was hopping! It is in a rougher part of town, but I think it adds to the mystique to this place. I felt like we were walking onto a Martin Scorsese movie set - lots of wood panelling, high vinyl booths and wood carvings -- old school with a touch of "Good Fellas". Our waitress was great, very friendly and prompt. She steered us in the right direction for appetizers (hubby and I shared three garlic sticks with cheese...yummy) and then we ordered the pizza. We were hungry but we weren't prepared for the behemoth that entered our world. Hubby is from Chicago so we went with the 14" deep dish with pepperoni, sausage, roasted garlic, green peppers and olive -- all the toppings were delish and fresh. Oh gawd, we should've asked for our waitress' advice on this one. Let's just say, we ended up eating the pizza for lunch and dinner for the next two days! It was so dense, the toppings spilling over and the cheese just oozing. I loved it as did my hubby (and he's a hard one to please!). All of this food for under $30 for the two of us. I can't wait for our next trip when we can try some of the other items on the menu (especially the pasta!).

    This place lived up the reputation and reviews on here! Great pizza! The server was friendly she seemed tired but was still attentive and our glasses never went dry. They have a few tv around so if you want to glance at the sporting event you can but they dont dominate the place either. Very nice "hidden gem".

    Great for take out, dining experience is lacking If you like your pizza and bread sticks extra cheesy and your service cold as ice then this is the place. The cheese sticks were just swimming in lake of cheesy goo and grease. On the first bite I found that the sticks were still frozen and the cheese was just melted on top. We told our server and got attitude as cold as our food. This place is busy and you can tell that they stopped trying to be nice a long time ago. Never once a smile from the hostess, no "thank you come again" from the manager and our server was hurried and frantic the entire time. Victims of their own success, Deluca's doesn't need to offer better service since they're serving a packed house of loyal customers every night except Sunday and sending out constant take out pizzas. The atmosphere could also use an update, most restaurants in this price range are a little nicer. The decor looks to be from 1980's with the fake marble and brass fixtures. If you can get past the service then you really will enjoy the pizza. The pizza options are extensive, wonderful variety and every pizza is done awesome every time. I keep coming back for the pizza but on the five occasions I have dined here I have always left feeling like they could so much better if they just cared enough to try. In the future I'll be sticking with the carry out.

    Best Pizza? Seriously? There is only one thing on the menu that even resembles pizza that is edible, hence it gets not one but two stars and that is the House Calzone. I honestly think, they use different dough, sacue and cheese in the calzone, than they use in their pizza. Last time we went there, we opted for pizza, which is unfunfortunate. The mushrooms were "canned" not fresh and some of them were black. Come on! The sauce was average at best and the crust tasted like a DiGiorno (in fact it looked pre-made by a pizza press and had those same ridges that you find on a frozen pizza). There was not a lot of cheese. The sausage was an emberassment for an italian restaurant (homemade? doubt it). The ground beef was ample but tasteless and poor quality. I honestly can say that I am shocked by the reviews here except for the couple like me that think that at best this is nothing more than a "C" grade pizza. Granted it is better than some of the chains, but not by much. I have had the ravioli in the past and that was also very dissapointing. Tasted like mushy Chefboyardee, not homemade. Ravioli should be al dente' standing up to the fork! Sorry Delucas. I'm not returning any time soon.

    I used to live just a three minute walk from this place - can't believe I moved. Hands down the BEST pizza I've ever had, and trust me I've had a LOT of pizza. It really does put Chicago to shame, it's deep but not too deep and just delicious - my pizza of choice with mushrooms and green olives plus an app of the yummy fried mushrooms was always killer. Sometimes I'd change it up for a moment and enjoy the famous spinach pizza with an unbelievable white sauce. I only wish this place delivered to Atlanta....sigh.

    the food here is PHENOMENAL. especially the pizza. best pizza in town, and it definitely competes with the likes of Chicago and NY. the service is decent. the staff is friendly. the decor is old/tired, but who cares. it's a dive in a rough part of town. but come prepared - MAKE RESERVATIONS FIRST! - as the standard wait here is well over TWO HOURS (it's been like this EVERY time I have been there, no matter what time of day or what day of the week, and sometimes even on the days that I have called ahead). do not be in a hurry, because you'll be here a LONG time, whether intentional (good food) or not (the wait). this place is very small/intimate, so it is always busy, and thus the parking lot is always full. sometimes you can find parking next door at the abandoned factory, but the cops will harrass you for parking there, so roll the dice. they are also VERY pricey. $22+ for a pizza. $18 for pasta. there is not much on the menu that is less than $15 - even the salads are that high. so bring ample cash with you. I was going to rate them a 5, but the horrendous wait time cost them a star. Deluca's, for the win.

    BEST PIZZA IN LANSING. PERIOD. Always crazy busy on weekend nights. Be prepared to wait. Decor used to be kinda dark and dismal, but recent redecoration has given it a significant face-lift. Update 07/2/07: The ham and pepperoni, while delicious, are salty, so if you go in that direction, remember to balance your toppings out with some veggies.

    We LOVE Deluca's food! The pizza is unquestionably the best in the greater Lansing area and gives pizza from other areas a definite run as well. Their garlic cheese sticks are nothing short of sinful - fresh bread loaded with cheese and garlic butter...yummy. The baked spaghetti, and combo plate are excellent as well. For a change, try the Patsy's salad. We add pepperoni and green olives, as well as sometimes hot capricola....yummy. Salad dressing could use a little more zip to them and the salad or soup served with the meals is so-so. But the prices are so reasonable, you can't hold that against it. And the food, at least main dishes and pizza, are an overall 5. I'm giving them a 4 due to an experience I had that was bad enough were it's warranted. One time upon ordering the Patsy Salad, I asked for the extras. Don't get me wrong, I EXPECT to pay extra for these things. But when the waitress brought them, they weren't on the salad so I said something. She mentioned it to the owner, who was standing pretty close to our table, and he turned into a complete jackass acting like we were trying to get out of the extra dollar or two. A little more decorum would have been nice as 1) Again, I expected to pay extra and he shouldn't of assumed I didn't as I told her when I ordered it was okay 2). He should be a little more conscious about the fact we were sitting two feet from where he was standing when asked. AND, even IF I hadn't said it was okay to charge extra, his words were not terribly hospitable for a restaurant owner and bordered on vulgar. We went on the Deluca boycott for almost a year due to this and it is still a pretty big turnoff. We still go, but it would be much more often if not for that.
