Alicia is one friendly gal! I ordered the barbacoa dinner (tacos, rice and beans). Best tacos I've had in Lansing. I also enjoyed the hot salsa. I wish they were open on the weekend

About a month ago, I found myself eating some of Alicia's delicious catered food at a gathering. It was TO DIE FOR! It's very unfortunate that she doesn't offer the chicken mole on her normal menu, because it is without a doubt the best that I've ever had. I arrived at the restaurant today at about 2:00 for a late lunch. Besides my girlfriend and myself, the restaurant only had one other person. Unable to order the chicken mole, I decided on the barbacoa dinner, which consists of three good sized tacos, beans and rice. The beef was some of the most flavorful meat I've ever eaten and it was perfectly tender. The beans were outstanding and obviously made from scratch. I only wish that she was open a little later. I just don't have time to get here for dinner before seven. Go try this place, it's fantastic.

YUCK YUCK YUCK! It's only getting 1 star because I can't give a negative -1. I went there during the week. I walked in 20 mins before closing and everyone looked at me as if I were crazy. I ordered a wet burrito with chips and salsa. Yuck! First the salsa- It tasted old and bitter. I kept thinking how long has this salsa been sitting out. Second the chips- I think they purposely gave me stale chips. At first I thought it's just one chip. I ate 4 chips all stale. The wet burrito-the chicken was uneventful, the sauce was gross, only 3 shreds of cheese. Just hated the whole meal. Highly disappointed. Will never go back.

How do you explain a veggie burrito served with beans and rice that is stuffed primarily with beans and rice? A small amount of lettuce, diced tomatoes and a sprinkle of raw diced green peppers, does not make a bean and rice burrito a veggie burrito, sorry. I get veggie burritos all the time and they are usually very good. You will see grilled vegetables, avocados and lots of delicious cheese but never beans and rice. The mild salsa was watered down and flavorless. The rice was clumpy. Maybe they have better items on the menu but I'm not willing to try again. There is no wonder the place was empty.

Come on, Lansing! I'm at Alicia's at 6 pm on Friday and the place is deserted! Granted, there's no beer and she's only open for another hour. They're sweeping up and thinking about the weekend as Alicia's kitchen help makes my special order cheese & onions enchilada. The ambiance is nil. Alicia's may be more serious about catering than selling over the counter. But say, take-out! That's a great idea this time of a Friday evening. And I'm on my lonesome at some of the better Tex-Mex in the area. Not that she makes take-out easy--won't answer the phone; let's the answering machine pick up. Still and all, you could do a better job supporting this place, Lansing. Drop by for lunch or breakfast.

I had recently stopped here for lunch, the lack of real plates and cups should have told me no. But i had their Tamale lunch special and was very disappointed in the lack of food and poor quality.

I just found out that Alicia's is reopening in September. Near the airport on Grand River in a strip mall across from the Airport Tavern (not too far from Waverly). YUM

Tucked away on the edge of town in the corner of a small plaza at a spot that used to house a Blimpie's, this little Mexican restaurant is one of the hidden gems of the area. It is very casual, but clean and comfortable with excellent food. The best Mexican food that I've encountered is usually composed of a few simple elements that combine perfectly and this food fits the bill nicely - rustic, home cooked, simple yet perfectly composed comfort food. The staff is friendly and the place has a nice vibe to it - the kind of place where you feel like it's run by good people that care about the food they are making for you. I still recall when I declined getting salsa with my chips and had to explain, after a bit of surprise and almost disappointment from the woman serving me, that I had a bit of an aversion to cilantro so I would just be taking the chips sans salsa. Well, this was none other than Alicia - the namesake of the restaurant - who was helping me out and it's quite clear from talking with her a bit that she is simply one of the sweetest people you'd ever hope to meet. She certainly confirmed this impression by offering to whip up a fresh batch of cilantro without cilantro just for me! The salsa that she made up for me, like the rest of the food, was great and complented the meal perfectly. The menu is small, but covers the basic range of offerings that you would expect in a Mexican deli. The beans, rice and all of the entrees I have tried have been tasty and thoroughly satisfying in the kind of way that leaves you walking out of the restaurant with the kind of food-comfort glow that we all love. Recommended!

As authentic as it gets, for Michigan, or Mexico. Alicia is a sweet business owner who makes every thing from scratch, pretty much right in front of you. She was very personable, and has a lot of items to choose from. Every thing I've had so far tasted very fresh and I am dying to know the recipe for her Mexican Wedding cake. Alicia's Authentic is a little known special find, and if you've been unimpressed with the Mexican food selection in Lansing, check her cooking out.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
