This place has pies, cookies, cakes and treats the way grandma would make them. I was very impressed with the almond pastry. It was a perfect balance of almond paste, pastry, and sliced almonds. The location is awesome, being next to the People's Food Co-op.

Admittedly, my first stop to this location was a pit stop for a bike ride...so bear with me. I for whatever reason didn't happen to notice whether there was any seating inside, but the important point to me was that there were a number of chairs and a couple tables outside so that the interested patron could enjoy MacKenzie's uber-bingeable butter cookies while sipping on an iced coffee on a warm weekend morning. In that respect, this was a great pit stop indeed! The gentleman helping us behind the counter was maybe having a bad day before we walked in, and he wasn't particularly thrilled to help us get an iced coffee when we asked him about whether they had any. However, thankfully, once we started to strike up a conversation he shook off the grumpiness and became quite friendly. I will definitely stopping back, and I hope to get a better sense of the service as well as the rest of the menu.

My wife and I usually get bread from another place but my wife forgot to pick some up at the farmer's market and we decided to have breakfast here as well as get us some bread to last us until the next farmer's market. I ordered a lemon crinkle, blueberry muffin, wheat bread loaf, a tea and a mocha. The mocha lacked any noticeable chocolate flavor but the tea was good. My wife likes to judge a place by anything baked with lemons as it can be hard for it's flavor to become noticeable; there was a small taste of lemon but needs to be more pronounced. The blueberry muffin however was definitely one of the better ones I've ever had, moist with a nice brown sugar sprinkle on top but i didn't notice enough blueberries in mine which is the only qualm I have with it. Onto the wheat loaf, it's pleasant scent penetrated through the bag after I left the place. When we got home we decided to try a slice. It has a nice crumb. I'm definitely curious to try their french baguette after all others I've found pale to my standards having grown up on french baguettes in the french countryside. I need a good crumb and even more a nice crust that creates a crunchy mess as I rip into a baguette.

We ordered the cake for my daughter's baptism from here and it was phenomenal! It was admittedly a complicated order (a gluten free cake with filling and decorated from a sketch I brought in) and it turned out beautiful! The cake tasted great too. They are going to be my go-to cake place. And the rest of their pastries also taste delicious too.

Their pastries and bread are good. However, had a giant hair baked in a birthday cake (carrot cake) and it took over a year to receive a refund. Boost the customer service aspect and you would have my heart.

I really want to love this place especially because I live a block away. They do great bread. Just go for the bread. If you want great coffee with your bread... Forget it. They even seem annoyed when you order coffee, especially a latte! I want a place in the morning to get great coffee, a croissant and some bread for later but without the coffee... I will skip it. Will check again some other time.
