My wife had the crab encrusted tilapia and I had the coconut shrimp. Both were excellent. The server was very friendly and efficient but the meal preparation was slow. We'll be back but not if we are in a hurry.

We rolled into town late on a Friday very hungry and pretty stressed out. We were both craving fish fry and the 2 piece Haddock with chips and the Joey's Bloody Mary hit the spot! The Bloody Mary starts at $5.99, but you can upgrade to a nicer vodka for a few bucks. We upgraded to the Absolute. The Bloody Mary was served in a medium-large brandy snifter (they called it a fish bowl) and was very good. It was slightly spicy and came with two olives and a piece of celery stalk. Since it we were eating so late, we went with the two piece fried haddock and that ended up being the perfect serving size. The breading on the fish was light and not too greasy. My husband and I both thought it was very good. The chips (fries) were clearly homemade and also very good. They were crispy, yet tender inside and not overcooked (I hate overcooked fries!). We have been to many places where the side dish was clearly an after-thought, but these fries were really good. The place itself was clean and staff was very friendly. The decor, however, and the waiter's uniforms were kind of over-the-top mariner themed. It was kind of comical, but maybe that's on purpose?

I keep wanting to love Joey's. But I've been here several times, and every time I order actual fish, it comes out overcooked and dry. I've mediated this situation by ordering other items. Their jambalaya is great for lunch! The fish tacos are OK, a little bland but fun and inexpensive. Popcorn shrimp is crunchy and good. The service is always wonderful, and they're great with handling medium-sized groups (~6-8 people).

Service was fine...water was filled... I had Fish & Chips, and the fries were fine, but the fish left something to be desired.

Food great and seafood is fresh . Seafood trio was great with sweet 1/2 lb snow crab, homemade crab cake and clams garlic roasted red skin potatoes and salad and fresh corn bread muffin. Great portion size. Waitress very nice and helpful.

Good seafood. Great service. However, no beers on tap (bottles only). Restaurant is pretty cool with an old blue steel ceiling that appears to be well preserved. The decor is sea/port themed and is tastefully done. They also have fishtanks with interesting fish specimens and mexican salamanders. Parking is easy right off of Shelden with 2 hours free and a back door to access the restaurant.

Delicious fish and chips dinner! This was our favorite meal in Houghton. Fish was very fresh and tasty! Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had the blackened Mahi Mahi tacos and the shrimp tacos. Both were delish! Our server was Matthew and he was super friendly and did a great job!

We ate a early dinner at of Fish and Chip and the Whitefish dinner plate. Both were excellent. We also had the crab and artichoke dip and found it very tasty. Service was friendly and we had time to enjoy our drinks before the food came.

Worst meal up north. The lemon-pepper whitefish was soaked in cheap lemon juice, the medium-rare steak was brown and tough, and the key lime pie drink tasted curdled. Love to support local businesses, but the cook was an amateur.

The food is so very greasy and disgusting, I feel so nasty after eating food from there. The gumbo is amazing (yet expensive)! Prices are quite high for food that makes me feel nasty.

We thought we'd try something different and support the locals and were not disappointed in Joey's. My husband had the Citrus Mahi Mahi and I had original Fish n Chips. Both were great. The mahi mahi was tender, succulent and flavorful and was accompanied by garlic red potatoes and great corn muffin. My fish was 10" long and came with seasoned fries. My order was $7.99 and included 2 pieces of fish, but I could have had 3 pieces for $9.99 and was so glad I didn't! The two pieces were more than enough. The decor is nice and it wasn't too noisy. Our server Rickie was friendly and knowledgeable about the items on the menu as well as the area. We will definitely go back and tell our family and friends about this place.

Service was great. Food just ok. Had pan fried perch, but the coating was soggy and it was in desperate need of seasoning, potatoes suffered the same. Best part of the meal was the cole slaw, creamy and well flavored. Decor was old but interesting. Don't go out of your way but a passable meal. Might try it again and try something different.

The patty melt burger was too greasy for my taste, couldn't even finish it. I've certainly had better burgers in the past. The staff was friendly but there is more to that in running a restaurant.

Without a doubt, the nicest place around this area. The drink menu was good with a decent wine list. I had the jambalaya which was good, not fantastic. Next time I'd get some fish which is probably the way to go here. I'd go here again.

The food I got was very tasty. The waitress was very pleasant and knew all about the menu. All of the seafood that the people in my party ordered was done well and very flavorful.

I'm a little puzzled by the bad reviews. I've always enjoyed Joey's. It's friendly, comfortable and serves a fine (and not overpriced) martini. The cooking isn't inspired--but the fish is treated with proper respect. The fried battered fish is especially well done. The sides are sort of erstatz New Orleans things-but they aren't bad. I can't imagine its as easy to get fish other than lake trout or whitefish in the UP as it is in Chicago or Detroit--but Joey's does a fine job, the portions are generous, and the prices are more than reasonable.

I'd definitely hit it up again. They had a nice selection on the lunch menu with reasonable prices. I got the steak salad with blue cheese etc., but substituted the steak with coconut shrip which was very tasty. I'd like to try the jambalaya next time, that might be the deciding factor whether this stays a 3 or goes up to a 4. Wireless is working great as I type this, not sure what the other review was talking about. Password for wireless is "calamari". The music is a bit annoying.

Long john silvers wannabe... But better. However, that doesn't make it good. There are many better places to eat in Houghton.

Loved Joeys while I lived in MI!! The restaurant is super cute, I always sat by the fish tank, if available. I'm not a fish eater, but their burger is pretty freaking good! Husband loved the shrimp. Sign up for their emails, they always have coupons! I still get them and I miss Joeys every time.

This place was great! We popped in on Homecoming night at Tech when we couldn't get into the Library and I was not sorry. Seated pronto. Great beer (all the regular stuff and local brews). We were starved so we tried the calamari appetizer - AWESOME! Lightly breaded, not chewy and with just a little kick - there must have been some cayenne in there somewhere! I got the coconut jumbo shrimp, hush puppies and coleslaw and it was all super yummy! Shrimp were crispy outside but not overcooked, hush puppies had great flavor and weren't greasy! Coleslaw is always measured against my moms and it totally passed (still not as good but hey). My friend got the fish and chips - you choose your fish and she had the yellow perch and she raved about it. 2 entrees, 3 beers and an appetizer later, our total bill came to a mere $43 for great service and good quality seafood. Patron this place!

This place had nice food, good atmosphere, and the service was AWESOME. The people were so nice. Our waiter was no nice and chatty, we learned his life story basically. He was from Minneapolis. Good place!

Dinner here two nights ago, the waiter was outstanding, I wasn't ready for a full dinner so they worked with me and got 1/2 portions. I have never had that offered before.Scallops were fantastic, good martini, the waiter knew exactly what a dirty was, even asked if I wanted the olive juice mixed or floated on the surface. We got the key lime pie to take out, enjoyed it the next day while driving home, moaning over the pie. The establishment was squeaky clean, and had a good selection of beer. I'll be back. as soon as I can.

The atmosphere is east-coast fishing village on the inside. Well done walls and props make it really feel like a wharf. That's about all I could say that was positive. The advertised Internet Wi-Fi didn't work and the food was mediocre at best. I've had better cafeteria food. I also wouldn't write home about the service. We were served by a young man who wasn't attentive and had a poor attitude. I would never return.

A wonderful complete menu of seafood. Two tasty sides with every dish, cornbread was delicious. Service was excellent. We are going back tomorrow.
