I went through the drive through with a simple order of a #1 combo with NO CHEESE. Well, the guy who took the order heard me right because the receipt says no cheese, but much to my surprise when I got home, the burger had cheese on it, and it was also WAY over cooked. The fries were also cold and stale. This is disappointing because whenever I go to steak and shake, I am accustomed to receiving great food at great quality.

Had a great experience tonight. Steak and Shake usually employs entry level wait staff. The waitress tonight was on point. Cook did a great job. Food was excellent. Thanks guys.

Every time I come to Michigan I have to stop and get a shake. They're so good! Plus during the week from 2-5 they are half price, so even better! I signed up for their email deals and I got my fiance a burger and fries and both of us shakes for less than $4!

Late last night my fella and I realized, "we forgot to eat dinner." We were staying at the Lake Shore Resort in Saugatuck and had too much fun kayaking and watching the sunset to realize that we were starving. By the time we picked up on this nearly everything had closed. Or at least their kitchens anyway. So we hopped in the car and hoped we could find something in Holland that could fill us up. Presented were our options--Denny's, a number of fast food drive thrus, and Steak and Shake (technically also a fast food drive thru but perhaps a bit classier). I had fond memories of going to a S&S in SE Michigan with my friends during late summer nights driving around in high school so I pointed us in that direction. It was a solid call. The space was clean and delightful in that faux-retro kind of way, the food was good (we both had the double with cheese fries and split an Oreo shake) and CHEAP (we walked out with both of us nice and full for under $15) and I got to bore my beau with tales of my youth and other Steak and Shake locations. Nostalgia always makes me a little soft when awarding stars. If you're in a pickle or just looking for something fast and cheap this place is a solid option. My fella went in with very low expectations on dining that night and walked out saying, "that was actually pretty effing great." So there ya go.

I guess this Steak and Shake must feel they have too many paying customers because today they sure treated me like they could have cared less if I ever came back, and no I will not be returning here. I pulled up to the drive thru and ordered a burger combo meal and a shake. When I was about half way home it dawned on me that I had forgot to tell them which condiments I wanted on my burger and figured oh well I guess I'm stuck with mustard, ketchup and pickles and maybe onions instead of what I wanted but forgot to ask for on my burger. When I got home I opened the burger to pick off any onions if they'd been put on my burger and I couldn't believe my eyes. Either through laziness or wanting to save the company a few cents they didn't put anything on the double cheeseburger except one slice of cheese and that was it. Then when you throw in the fact that the bun was soaked through with grease and I was not a happy camper. When I say grease soaked I mean it was soaked with so much grease that you can see the grease discoloring about 20% of the top of the bun. Pretty gross! Common sense would dictate that if a customer orders a burger and does not specify what they want on it you at least put the basics, as in mustard, ketchup and pickles, on the burger or you ask while they're ordering and say sir would you like any condiments on your burger. There's no way they can seriously believe that most people who don't specify the condiments on a burger really want a burger with nothing at all on it except for the excessive amount of grease you serve on your burgers and buns. So thanks for the grease soaked bun and the burger with no condiments at all on it. Granted I don't stop in here that often so they'll never miss my business, but if they do this to all of their customers they may find themselves out looking for a new job when this place is closed due to customers refusing to return for another round of crappy service and grease soaked hamburger buns. I assume they are pretty proud of their shakes since they're mentioned in the restaurants name, but I can tell you that while they are OK they certainly are not any better than what you'd get at any other fast food restaurant. Congrats on losing a customer because you were either too lazy to ask what condiments I wanted on my burger or maybe by not asking you were trying to save your employer probably something like a whopping 3 or 4 cents worth of condiments.

We pulled up to the drive-through and the menu board was not lit up it was very hard to read. This steak and shake was gross and greasy. The fries were undercooked, the bacon double steak burgers were so full of grease the meat was sliding off the bun and dripping everywhere! Gross! There was also way too many condiments on the burgers and it splattered out on to my shirt! We promptly pitched our half eaten burgers and drove away. My husband took a Zantac immediately then headed for the bathroom. Thank god for Prilosec. Go to this restaurant if you want to eat the worst food ever.

Today's trip to steak n shake WAS SO DIFFERENT. There was a huge difference eating here around lunch time than in the ungodly hours of the night. Shakes are always on point, it was even better than the last time. Not sure why, but it was. We ordered the same exact thing too. I think what really made the experience greater was the customer service. We came back because we were in the area and my boyfriend is obsessed with spicy stuff and he was just craving the peppers they had. Fun fact, you can actually purchase the peppers. Shout out to Kaitlyn for doing a marvelous job. The only reason I'm not giving it a full five stars is because right when I ordered I decided to look at the table top menus and I saw stuff I would've ordered there. I'm guessing it's not done because these items are "for a limited time only" but an insert or a "hey we've got new stuff to try" would've been cool.

What's sad is that I worked here back in the late 90's when I was in high school. It was great back then and was always packed. I've been there a few times for dine-in and noticed it was dirty and the wait staff was rude and nowhere to be seen. The food takes forever to come out when I can see it sitting in the window getting cold. I've also used the drive-thru and it takes forever to get the food. It comes out cold and usually wrong after waiting for over 15 minutes in my vehicle. So not worth it.

I've never been disappointed at any Steak 'n Shake I've been to, and this one continues that streak. Perfect service, the people were incredibly friendly and helpful even with the non-English speakers in our party. The server was funny and thoughtful, anticipating our needs, and quick to bring us things before we even had to ask. After our order was in the manager stopped by to say hello and talked with us and the table next to us for a bit, incredibly friendly guy who was genuinely interested in our experience and making it a good one. After a long day, it was nice to sit back and sip a shake and eat a burger somewhere clean and friendly.

I hope our experience here was not the norm for this Steak N Shake. We love Steak N Shake for a quick and usually dependable meal. They were training, the kitchen was filthy (wish we hadn't seen this as we paid), our order was wrong and our waitress was a little confused. Plus the French fries were not hot and that is a sin!

This Steak N Shake sort of defies my "the farther from Bloomington, IL the worse the Steak N Shake" theory by being pretty good. On the rare occasions I can bring myself to stop (I'm usually rushing to Glen Lake or rushing to beat traffic back to Chicago), it's been quite good. Friendly staff, the food is done properly, directly off the highway for easy access, this is an excellent stop on your way to/from Leelanau County.

Delish. I thought the whipped cream on my shake was extra good. I would suggest this for a cheap meal

TERRIBLE. Took 15 minutes for waitress to come take orders after we were seated. We ordered food and drinks at the same time. Took an additional 20 min after that to bring five waters. Our food came 40 minutes after ordering and it was cold. Isn't this supposedly made-to-order? Very disappointed. Restaurant not even busy.

This is one of the better steak and shakes, the service was fast and friendly and the food was as always good. We where able to even get half priced shakes from 2-4 happy hours every day. The restaurant it self was also fairly clean. I was very happy with our choice.
