I had visit Margarita's Restaurant when they first opened and every visit was delicious! Visiting from Chicago I decided to have a meal at Margarita's. I should have waited to get back to the city and have AUTHENTIC food or taken my money to Taco Bell. At least Taco Bell doesn't pretend to be Authentic Mexican food!!!! The chips were the highlight of the whole meal. The salsa was very bland. So... I ordered a torta (Mexican sandwich). Can't go wrong with a sandwich. Oh, wait, but you can. I received a very very thin slice of unseasoned low quality steak meat with American cheese on top! What up right authentic Mexican Cook would do such a horrible thing. Visit Margarita's and you will experience it for your self. Hmm, why wasn't that put on the menu? Oh and when I asked for some other cheese I was offered cheddar.... Really??? I didn't want a regular steak sandwich, which this didn't qualify for as well, I wanted a torta.. to be fair the bread was ok. So you tell me why did a burrito cost a whopping $13.50? That's because it's an extra $3 bucks for avocado and $1 plus for sour cream. It was made with chicken. I had to take a bite of my Brother's burrito and well NOT COOL. No flavor! I was in a party of seven and barely anyone finished half their food. Keep in mind everyone ordered a different dish and had nothing nice to say. I left unsatisfied, disappointed and upset that Margarita's tried to fool me into thinking they are a Authentic Mexican restaurant. Really American Cheese on a Torta, REALLY!!!! I'm a big fan of ambiance but folks, nothing spectacular here. Don't waste your time or Money!!!!! One star for the waitress she was hospitable.

Best Mexican food in town. Great service. Everything on the menu is good. Large portions.

What a gem of a place to stumble upon. Great service from everyone we spoke to-they were so kind and sincere, I felt like family. The food was good too. My boyfriend had a 3 strip steak tacos, which came with rice, small salad and re-fried beans. WOW! it was a ton of food and it was great! (Of course I snagged a few bites!) The steak had a ton of flavor and the rice was really good! We will be back!

Not a bad choice. We decided to give Mexican food a try here in Holland. It was decent. Chips & salsa were fresh and our menu choices were edible. As for earlier reviews the place is quaint and clean. Our service was fast at 1 pm on a Saturday for lunch. It is now 6:30 and I am just thinking about food again. I think it deserves $$ because it is inexpensive but hard to get out under $10 a head.

I love Mexican food. My experience with this place is horrible. Slow service. Dirty silverware. Crowded and unkept eating area.

While visiting my mother in Holland, I knew I had to find a good Mexican restaurant to take her to since she had just moved there from Arizona and absolutely loves Mexican food. We love it as well. The service is the only thing good about this restaurant that claims to be "The Home of Fine Mexican Food." Our server, Marina, was very attentive, helpful, and quick with our food. Robin was so sweet and bused tables with the speed of a gazelle. While we got our food quickly, it was below average in taste and some things were tasteless. The menu is large and confusing. There are a few combination plates but some of the items weren't ones I recognized. We were quickly served chips and salsa. The salsa was too spicy hot for me and my mother and there were no other options. The chips were very thick and stale. I ordered white queso dip, which I love. I had originally ordered a medium but upped it to a large. The large came in a soup bowl, much more than I had ever expected. It was not melted through and was bland. My mother ordered a taco and a cheese enchilada. She had to order them ala carte as there was no combination option on the regular or senior menus. The taco came with a flour tortilla rather than the crisp corn tortilla which is the norm and which she expected. She did not want to bother anyone to change the taco so I respected her request although I could tell she was not happy with the flour tortilla. She said her enchilada was bland and nothing special. My boyfriend ordered the enchilada platter that came with 3 enchiladas, rice, and beans. He had one of each of the choices: beef, chicken, and cheddar cheese. He was unimpressed as well, giving the food an average rating at best. I ordered the 2 chiles rellenos, one cheese and the other beef, that came with rice, beans, and flour tortillas. I did not know what I was supposed to do with the tortillas. I love chiles rellenos at other restaurants. I don't get why they are so expensive but they are. These were a big disappointment. There was no "punch" to the chiles. They are supposed to have some spice to them but these were slimy and bland. What was very weird was that the beef mixture had peas in it. Yup! Peas! Yuck! It was a slimy mess. The only good part of my meal was the special salsa that comes with the chiles rellenos but they couldn't resurrect the rellenos. I poured the cheese dip all over my meal to try to give it some taste. Didn't really help. Another really weird thing is that the rice came with diced potatoes in it. None of us ate our rice. Somehow they even made refried beans more bland than out of a can. Menu prices were expensive. When we got our bill, no prices were listed so we didn't know what to do about a tip until we took the bill up to the cash register. We left very disappointed with the food and won't return. Again, Marina and Robin were the only standouts at this restaurant that claims to be "The Home of Fine Mexican Food." The restaurant itself is old and tacky. Of real concern was the overall cleanliness, especially the floor. The entry area was an immediate turn off due to the dirt and worn carpet. The table placement was crowded and the décor tacky. You seat yourself.

Margaritas is a small place but they have good food there. The service is good and they are very friendly. At times they get a bit busy which can make it frustrating if you are in a hurry but it's worth the wait.

My kind of place: Original Mexican and Mexican inspired dishes jumping with flavor, quality ingredients, soft on the pocketbook and a simple, ultra-casual atmosphere! First visited over 2 months ago and already feel like a regular as I have been back a half a dozen times. Always during the evening and is never light on locals. Favorite entree is the chimichanga...always packed full of meat and perfect flavor in the sauce. Rice is consistently just right. To date, this is our favorite restaurant in town to bring our daughters and visiting family members.

News reports today state that Margarita's will reopen tomorrow, 8/2/12. I have changed the rating to 4 stars so as to be consistent with other ratings.

Let me start by saying that Holland is not the gastronomic capital of the world - let alone Michigan. Italian in Holland includes spaghetti pie on the menu. Having home made bread at a breakfast joint costs $0.15 extra and people refuse it because of this cost. I'm not saying you can't get a good meal in Holland, I'm just saying that Margarita's gets my four stars for being one of the better local joints in Holland. My in-laws, wife and I went here tonight (12/27/09) and we all enjoyed our meals. Portions were generous. Service was attentive. The rice was nothing special but it did have pieces of potato in it. Added a little salsa to it and it was quite tasty. Melted cheese on it would have made it great. I had the milanesa dinner with cheese and ham. Never seen it that way before and I enjoyed it. The cheese was melted American cheese slices - so not very Mexican but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. The skirt steak soft taco on corn tortilla was very nice. I'd go back for sure.

How can you have a restaurant called Margarita's that doesn't have margaritas? Do you even want to know any more? The food was pretty rough. Low-quality meats, too much fat cooked into all aspects of the food. Far from fresh. Felt gross afterward.

Authentic Mexican home style food. A Latino/a would know. Great small-town, family-owned restaurant with good service & friendly staff. A must. Try it out!!! For people that are not used to great tasting authentic Mexican food (not taco-bell or Moe's- like food )& a little grease, then this place may not be for you. ;)

I've been here a couple times over the last month to pick up some carry out. I would say this restaurant is good, but I have had better. I had steak tacos the last time and they were very greasy which made me not want to eat them. However the visit before that they were much better. I will continue to go back, but it does not get 5 stars from me.

Best place in Holland to get Mexican food!!!! Every time I go they welcome me with a warm greeting! The salsa is great and go perfect with the home made chips! The taco bar is amazing! Anything you order is delicious!

My husband I went here recently after hearing friends rave about the place. We were not that impressed. We both ordered carne asada tacos, and the meat was very low quality, the onion-cilantro mixture on top was scant, and no lime was served on the side. EDIT: gave this place another chance in November of 2008, and our food was horrible. Carne Asada tacos were full of fat and gristle, salsa is watery and tasteless. The only positive thing I can say is our waitress was nice.

Just as a bit of FYI for the above Yelper, the owners mother is NAMED Margarita, hence the name of the restaurant. I live in Phoenix, AZ, practically IN Mexico, and I have not found good, homestyle Mexican food as great as Margarita's in Holland. Esmeralda is the sweetest person on the face of the planet, and their rice, beans, and conchitas are like none other. True comfort food, and very authentic. If there is such a thing as Mexican Soul Food, this is it. It's not Frontera Grill people, nor does it claim to be, it's a small town, homestyle Mexican restaurant.

I'm originally from Chicago, where there's really good Mexican food and i miss it. So I decided to give this place a shot. The place looks like a disaster, but hey i really don't care long as the food is great. There are places in Chicago were the place looks like a slum but the food is just amazing. so i ordered the combination, i don't know why when i really don't like enchiladas but the tostadas and the taco were excellent. my meal + dinning experience, i would rate 4/5 My brother ordered the fajita quesadillas and he said quote "this is the best Mexican i ever had, its better then chicago" as far as being back there, hells yea.

'Margarita' is a persons NAME, and this restaurant is named after somebody named Margarita. So don't get confused and think it's a place for margaritas. the food is authentic, and for a good price. It is a family run place, and very friendly. Always a good experience when I go there

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
