Victor Red Hots

Hard to find and worth the search. Red Hots has been here since 1921 and it's history is intertwined with the story of the Ford Factory down the road. The workers building the model T used to rush down for Conny Dogs from the current owners Grand-Uncle on lunch break. Richard is third generation. Great photo of him sweeping up at 14 next to one from a few months ago. And the food? Basic and good. I swear I have never had bacon that was as well prepared. Ultra thin slices that were both crisp and tender. How does he do that? Very limited menu, but hey, its all good. Another interesting story is about "Milton's Special". Ask the waitress. Essentially an eclectic mix that has changed names over the years as former patrons have moved on and others have inherited the taste for the good stuff.
Def can feel its history. A few have mentioned cinnamon or nutmeg taste in the chili. I could be wrong, but from the smell and taste, seems like Tumeric is the flavor. Cinnamon never came to mind. Whatever it is it is different. Anybody know what it is??? Another tip, I think they use only beef dogs. Pretty solid hot dog and chili. Different. Tasty but different. Not sure if the dog is natural skin. Couldn't tell fully. I stopped by due to my mom seeing the makeover TV show. Never really know about the spot. From seeing others plates, kind of small fries serving. I do wonder how the slider burgers are.I would be back but wasnt blown away. Sorry.
It's good, yeah - it's good. My son and I tried this place today. The coneys were dang good....not the best in Detroit (which IMO goes to American) but one of the best. Typical diner setting (recently remodeled). Great service with smiles and friendliness. If I had one complaint, it would be that the chili has a distinct cinammon flavor. But that being said, it's still really good and tasty. I'd go there again.

Good service at the drive thru, I see one employee all the time working hard but friendly! Keep up the good work!
Nice and friendly staff. The outside could have some time spent cleaning it. There is dried spit on the menu board and drive thru window.
Decent. Food is hot, tables are clean, bathrooms have TP and drive thru is quick. Its a much better choice than the BK a bit farther south towards downtown.

Visited for breakfast and was immediately impressed with the quality of service; from the hostess to the server, I felt very comfortable and valued as a customer. I had the veggie omelet, which was very fresh, and a side of hash browns (not too greasy, like your typical diner hash brown). My only request is more tea options other than Lipton. This restaurant has a great mission and I encourage others to check it out for themselves. I know I will definitely be returning for lunch sometime soon.
Even though website says they are open on Saturdays, it is a lie. Went yesterday for breakfast and after walking through all the muddy slush in the parking lot and nearly slipping on the unsalted stairs the place was dark. Doors locked. No one inside. We won't bother next time.
I was amazed at the quality of food and service I received when I went to the Cornerstone Bistro for lunch. I had the 4th Avenue Veggie Burger, so I kind of figured, how can you screw up a veggie burger? It was one of the best I've had- plus the fries and homemade mac n cheese were so delicious, and it truly feels like a classy, five-star restaurant in the middle of Highland Park, so unusual, unexpected, and unique. This place is run by the men and women who benefit from the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries shelters and services, and they appear to be true professionals, presented nicely, and the staff is incredibly gracious and attentive. My meal was $6 total-- you can't find a better deal anywhere in Detroit, and all of the money goes to a great cause!! Highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Lunch specials are an amazing deal for $5.30 out the door. Soups are good, shrimp in lobster sauce is excellent but avoid the almond boneless chicken...blech! It wasn't hot and there was nothing "almond" about it. I have found a lot of places that are otherwise good do not do almond boneless chicken well though which is why I still give it 3 stars...everything else I've ever had there has been very good.

It's a-ok, simple menu, standard coney, clean and giant windows. Nothing to write home about... just your run of the mill coney shop. The seating area is small, but this place, more than any other coney i've been to, has enormous store front windows on three side of the building. Great for taking in a little sun while munching on some lunch. It's right on the busy corner of Hamilton and McNichols ... you can almost see the mansions just up the road en route to Palmer Park.

I hate this place!!! As soon as you pull up they tell you to wait and then every time you say hello to see if their still there they tell you to wait again. WORST McDonalds I have ever been to.
if you go here, go for the drama - not the food; because after you order you will be waiting for a while. the level of service at this location leaves one wondering how so many people could be inside a building and be doing nothing. ever order a cheese burger and the cheese is cold and not melted ? that means the burger itself was cold when the cheese was applied cold too. this is what you'll get if you order a cheese burger here, always. sadly this place has degenerated since it was built from the ground only a few years ago. better to swallow hard and drive a few miles down the road to either the woodward and seven mile shop or go to the one on woodward and willis. No one who works here knows the word Thank You and not even the drivethrough can hand you a soda in under 5 minutes. now that's sad.
Stopped here for a coffee. They do not add cream or sugar. McDonald's coffee is usually made to order, but apparently not at this McDonald's. Oh, and the coffee was old/burnt... I'd recommend going to Tim Horton's across the street.

WOOOOOO Hot Mess. if you don't slip on the floor; the fish smell knocks you down when you open the door of this bulletproof glassed in place. The fish and chicken wings are dripping with smelly grease and overcooked. IMHO, it's best to think about elsewhere if you really plan to eat the food. I've tried this place 4 times in 3 years and it's only gotten worse each visit.
