Garrido’s Bistro & Pastry

Service was really friendly. Maybe a little slow but the food is good enough that it doesn't really matter. Ordered a Caprese crepe and bacon Caesar salad and would get both again. Also had a bite of my friend's cedar plank salmon and it was very interesting but delicious. The restaurant scene in Grosse Pointe has always been a bit dull, so it's nice to have this place that offers so much variety.
Excellent food. Felt like I was eating at home in my mom's kitchen. Wonderful service and very friendly staff. I suggest giving this place a try. The arepas are absolutely phenomenal. The crepes were delicious as well. Had to try a little bit of everything off of their breakfast menu.
Went to Garrido's tonight for dinner- EXCELLENT! Service is great, food is sooo good, staff extremely welcoming-very inexpensive! A local establishment with owners on site, very friendly. The only negative is no liquor license, so could not enjoy a glass of wine with our meal, but Vanessa (owner) assures us that license has been applied for - Once liquor license is granted, Garrido's will likely be one of the busiest restaurants is Grosse Pointe!!! Go now-beat the crowds! I wish you the best with your restaurant Vanessa! I plan to be a regular customer!!!! Michelle Himes, Grosse Pointe

Delicious! Had the lemon raspberry cupcake and my friend has the key lime pie- so good! Will be back for more options as there are a lot to choose from!
Really 2,5, but the staff was very nice, so earned them an up star. I had the cupcake of the day: pumpkin. Hubby had hot fudge cream puff. Now, my cupcake was moist and very good. Unfortunately, the frosting tasted like lard. Very oily. I removed it. The hot fudge cream puff was neither hot, nor fudge. The topping was actually milk chocolate, and it was just above room temperature,- not hot. The cream puff was just OK. Cute place, but doubt I'll be back. Very nice girls working there, though. Hate to say it, but hubby said we should have gone across the street to Big Boys for their Hot Fudge Cake.
I've been here many many times with my kids and there's nothing like the old school feel of a great ice cream and cupcake topped off with whipped cream cherries and sprinkles they always have the old school style chilled stainless steel dixie cups that they give you full of the best water you'll ever have and the atmosphere that sends you right back to the Fifty's. The spumoni ice cream is like no other the chocolates are amazing and the kids circus sunday is a must try for any little one you have. Also the chocolate malts are made just the way they should be... awesome.

Chicken Shack

Reviews:
God bless my parent in laws for living so close to a chicken shack! My cooking impaired aunt actually introduced me to Chicken shack when I was 14 (I'm now 27). Thank goodness for her inability to cook. Everytime we would visit her in Troy, she would buy tons of chicken shack, and I would eat tons of chicken shack. So what's so great about this place? Well there's the obvious- the chicken. I think there is crack in the oil, because I always crave more after I've eaten here. The chicken wings they have here are also on point. In addition to the chicken, the potato wedges they have here are delicious. Saturated in salt and butter, sure they're a heart attack waiting to happen, but if you're going to a fried chicken joint, you might as well go for the gold. Lastly, the cole slaw. Let me tell you I HATE COLE SLAW, hate might not be a strong enough word to describe my feelings for the cole slaw. But here at Chicken Shack? I've actually found one place on earth that makes a decent cole slaw. Everything here is pretty wonderful. It's hard not to like anything deep fried, but this may be the place to go to get it. They also got lunch combos for those of us balling on a budget.
Employees are friendly and the place is clean. I got the #1 lunch special for $6. It's a breast, wing, roll, potatoes (I substituted & got the onion rings), and a beverage. Everything was good. It's not the best fried chicken, but definitely not the worst. I prefer mine with more coating, but it's crispy and not greasy here. I would eat here again for sure.
Not so great . The chicken was dry and it's over priced . Would rather have KFC . I give it 2 stars because I do love the cole slaw and the potatoes are good . Had it for dinner last night . I had one chicken breast some potatoes and cole slaw . Felt like a rock was sitting in my stomach the rest of the night . If ever asked if I'm down for Chicken Shack carry out again I'm going to have to pass . Over priced , super greasy and gross.

Damn-look at that LINE!! Ahh it''s so cozy inside! They got my carryout order wrong, again! Aw..our waitress is a sweetheart! Damn it..they left out the whipped cream from my carryout and forgot my orange juice! (after going back for the juice) WOW it's fresh squeezed! Delicious!!! Cool-they sat us far enough back so that the poor saps in line won't be ogling my omelet! Sweet LORD this Garden Dutch Baby (or pancakes, or waffles, or crepes, or sausage) is the most amazing thing I have ever put into my mouth!! JEEZ this is pricy! Why did I have that last beer last night? This line is killing me-mama needs sustenance! WHOA look at this omelet! HUGE, fluffy, steaming hot, looks like a small loaf of bread! Chock full o' veggies-I am in heaven! It's so big I don't need the hash browns they forgot. You get it. Shake up the mixed bag that is the Pancake House and the goodness stays on top. Pricy, but great food!! If you haven't tried the delectable Garden Dutch Baby you haven't fully lived!
I haven't been here in many many years. It used to be great. There were about 10 people in front of us to be seated. It took about 5 minutes and we were seated. A few minutes later the waitress took our order and 10 minutes later we were eating. The place was packed and they still rocked. From standing in line to eating in 20 minutes. The food was awesome as was the service. Every bit as good as I remember. Nice job maintaining quality and service over the long haul.
I have been eating here since I was a kid, and every time I'm in Detroit I have to visit. Best breakfast I have ever found. Forget the eggs, and go for their specialty pancakes, Waffles and the Garden Baby.

The rudest customer service ever! I have never been treated so badly on the phone after asking a few simple questions. After sharing my experience at a party later that night, a lot of guests told me they had the same thing happen to them. In an area with many gourmet pizza choices, I will drive out of my way to go somewhere else (which I did). No pizza is worth bad customer service.
Read the reviews and gave them a try. Overall the food was good. The pizza and the meat sauce pasta was excellent. The antipasto salad was average and bread sticks dry(slightly over cooked). The woman on the phone was really nice and welcoming. Felt like she and family took great pride in the business. I will order again but was confused on the pricing. Had this order delivered and they mentioned the gratuity was already on the bill. I tip the driver extra 6 dollars just in case. Didn't get a bill so could not confirm. Overall..4 STARS
Sad to say the owner has an attitude. We parked on back on a very snowy day and we were told to park on Mack. Would have but no places. Meatballs just average. Won't be returning.

Burrito Mundo

19459 Mack Ave
Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236
Reviews:
OK. I'm from Arizona. It's not "real" Mexican food, but it does have fresh ingredients and basically makes "Mexican-inspired" food. It's good, but... If the Boss isn't there, the service SUCKS. It took 30 minutes for a burrito and 3 tacos to go. People were going in and out in front of my order. When I complained, I was told that some people had called in. When I pointed out that some had come in an ordered, they said that "maybe their order was easier to make and didn't need ingredients from the back". Excuses. I have 18 years in the Restaurant Business, and this place shows that people that work here are disorganized and going through their jobs at 1/2 speed. I guess that I would have better service if I hadn't ordered the "wrong thing". Want real Mexican food? There's a hole in the wall just down Mack that has the "real thing", for less cost and a LOT better service. I'm not going back for awhile, hopefully they'll get their staff issues worked out. If you go, the test kitchen stuff is fun, and they do a good job with the pork.
I went in today during lunch and it was busy, but not horrible 'in-the-weeds' busy, and it still took 25 minutes for one burrito. How is that possible? Oh, right. Teenage girls doing the preparing. Also? I ordered my burrito with shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, cilantro and roasted tomato jalapeno salsa and the only thing that was on my burrito was shredded lettuce. Seriously. How is it possible to so monumentally mess up an order? I can understand forgetting one topping, but ALL but one???? It was written right on the check and double-checked with me before I cashed out. Beyond all that, the burrito really was disgusting and had an awful after taste. Yuck. I'm giving them two stars because my last burrito was actually very tasty (albeit service was still slow), so I'm hoping today was a fluke. It will be a very long time before grab lunch from here again. I'll drive the extra 15 minutes to Qdoba.
Good price, good quality. When ordering over the phone, make sure to order slowly and have them repeat it. Mistakes seem to be common... Add five to ten minutes to their slated ready time, usually they aren't ready when they say they are. But their meats are all good, not just generic stand-ins that could be easily interchanged. Ingredients are largely fresh. In the store they sell Purity juices which seems rare for GP.

The Big Salad

19595 Mack Ave
Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236
Reviews:
I adore The Big Salad... I have never had lunch/dinner IN at this location, but each and every time we carry out, it's been impressive to say the least. The salads are HUGE and I'm a big fan of the Baja- I always get my dressing on the side- and I order extra. It's just THAT good!! The ingredients are always super fresh- and the lettuce doesn't taste bagged at all. It is a tad pricey, but if you see the bowl size (which doesnt seem overly large) and then empty it- it's a HUGE salad, plenty of leftovers. Love it, will continue to go again and again even though I've moved from the area!
I love the Big Salad on Mack Ave. First, the staff there is very friendly and seem to be happy to be there. It's clean, they play nice jazz, and they have a couple tables out front. On to the food: I haven't tried all their salads, but their sandwiches are excellent and their chicken noodle soup is some of the best I've had. As other reviews have mentioned, it is pricey, but it is a quality product.
Very good.....I love their salads they give you a lot to...
