Well let's see. Years ago they used to serve the best pizza in Grand Rapids. Now granted, it took them a while to serve said pizza, but it was sooo worth the wait. Me and my friends used to go there for the pizza. Then, abruptly, they took it off the menu. That's a great idea! Take your best item off the menu! I am so tempted to start a restaurant, because amazingly, Shaumut is still open! It must not take much brain power. Anyhow, went back...now with my kids. Waitress asks for our drink orders. Kids order pop...lemonaid...whatever. Then I look at the menu. Says kids drinks are included in kids meals. They order kids meals. I get the bill. They charge me extra for the kids drinks!!! I have to go to the bar because at that point our waitress has apparently vaporized. Then I got to argue with the bartender...who finally relented...apparently acknowledging my under 10 yo kids! But saying I should have told them I wanted to order kids drinks for them!!! I can't make this up folks, aweful place, aweful service. Used to be good but they self destructed. Yet, somhow, they're still in business. There by the grace of God i guess.

Awful food. Kitchen slow. Manager does not care that they serve crappy food. We could have gotten better food from a homeless shelter.

I love this place!!! the place makes you feel as if you're up north in the middle of no where for some reason. it has an old school vibe, but I love it. it has awesome food and it's cool that you pick your seat instead of getting placed somewhere. always have had nice waitresses. sometimes it can be slow, so if you're in a rush, I wouldn't come here. I have taken many of my friends here and they all liked it. give it a try!

Not sure why this is categorized as a bed and breakfast - a classic West Side (Grand Rapids) bar, conservative & more family-friendly than most. Pool tables are nice. Not much else available around that area to eat at.

Great restaurant with well priced food and beer. During lent they have 3 pieces of beer battered cod with fries, slaw, and a roll for $9. If you are still hungry they give you 3 more pieces for free. Pair this with a pitcher of Labatt's Blue and you will not be disappointed.

A nice little "hole in the wall" restaurant. Good value and portions for the price. Give them a shot.

We really love Shawmut Inn. Not fancy but good food in plentiful quantities at a very reasonable price. We have enjoyed the wet burritos (if you like spicy have them put some of their green salsa in it for you) and their 1/2lb burger special on Thursdays allows our family of 4 to eat out and enjoy a beer for under $40. So.much.win! Their burgers are solid, again not fancy but well prepared and large enough to need a take out box. On our last visit I got the stuffed pepper-jack bacon burger, but I will say the ciabatta roll served with it wasn't sturdy enough for the vastness of the burger so if you get it I would recommend asking for a normal bun. My favorite is the mushroom Swiss. My husband loves the Kentucky bourbon burger but again you WILL need the extra napkins! Their chips and salsa rivals many of the "authentic" Mexican restaurants and the "mean green" spicy verde salsa goes great on just about everything. The service is casual, maybe sometimes too casual but we don't mind. Be patient or go shoot a game of pool or play some of the arcade games in the back. Out servers Jill and Haley were both terrific and quick and prompt. One other tip, if you get a burger you may want to ask for the condiments on the side. I add mayo to my burgers and they can be a bit heavy handed for my taste (and I love me some mayo)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
