The Sylvan Inn

Reviews:
When my fiancee and I first decided we wanted to take a trip to Glen Arbor, we initially wanted to stay at the Homestead. A few friends recommended it to us and we heard it was an overall great place to stay. Unfortunately, it was booked pretty solid and the only rooms left were extremely expensive. After doing some research online, we settled on the Sylvan Inn. We could not have been happier with our decision! First of all, the Sylvan Inn is right in downtown Glen Arbor (the Homestead is not), so it was within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. The innkeepers, Ralph and Rose, were extremely nice and helpful anytime we asked for advice on activities and places to see while we were in town. They served a fresh and healthy breakfast each morning, and the entire place was cozy and very clean. I felt right at home at Sylvan Inn from the minute I walked in the door. Ralph and Rose were very inviting, warm and welcoming. Sylvan Inn is a great place to stay if you want to be close to downtown Glen Arbor and if you want to be treated like special guests during your entire visit.
My wife, almost 4 year old daughter and I just had a 3 night stay at the Sylvan Inn. We had a great time. Pros: - Location - Right in Glen Arbor, walk to everything - stores, restaurants, kayaking, the lake - Rose and Ralph, the owners. So nice, personable, helpful. We got a little lost on the way and came in a bit late and Rose was very understanding. She got special books for our daughter to read during our stay and gave us a ton of useful, personal info for our trip. They really seemed to like what they are doing and like to get to know the people staying there and help them have a good time - the spa. so nice to hop in the hot tub and sauna on a chilly fall morning. Clean and well maintained - The room was clean, well furnished and had all we needed. ?Cons (depends on what you want): - i have been to some B+B with very elaborate hot breakfasts and that is not what they do here. That being said, the breakfast they put out each morning was good. granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, warm breads, coffee and tea. so I enjoyed the flexibility of eating when we wanted and having more or less of this or that so not a con for me. - eating area a little small when it was too cold for the porch but everyone was nice and we all found a place to sit and eat. We loved it there and recommend the Sylvann Inn.
The inn is lovely. It is spotless. Ralph and Rose made sure that we had everything that we could possibly want.

Blu was a wonderful dining experience and was a great place for our group to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant on the the side of the Le Bear resort with large windows that provides a view of Lake Michigan. It was smaller than expected inside, though they also have an outdoor patio. The restaurant is lovely, simple and allows the view to be the focus. The service was excellent, very attentive. They have a good wine list that includes local wines (including some we had sampled earlier that day on our wine tour that were considerably marked up). To begin the meal you are served an amuse bouche. At our visit this was a salmon mousse. The idea of fish whipped is strange but this was surprisingly light and made a nice start to the meal. I had the crab puffs as an appetizer, which were as good as the other recommendations suggest. A friend had the fried green tomatoes. I would not have thought to order this and it was another pleasant surprise. Our group primary ordered fish items, the salmon and the sea bass. They also had a asparagus risotto. This is not the easiest to make and this was perfect and creamy. The salmon was very good, but the sea bass was amazing. I am not sure how often the menu changes or what items are seasonal but this fish option seems to be a good choice. Expect that any meal you have here is going to be pricey. We came to celebrate a friend's birthday, had a wonderful experience and felt that it was worth the price. If you are just looking for somewhere to eat or do not have much time, this is not going to be a good choice. As I noted, Blu is small, and I would recommend making reservation, especially during the busy part of the year.
Not sure why I have to drive over 4 hours for the best meal we've had in at least three years but this place is not to be missed! Here's a roadmap for an exceptional dining experience: 1. fabulous table along the wall looking out to Lake Michigan (this is a small place so most tables have a view. If you want outdoor seating, which is very limited, make sure to request it when you make your reservation). 2. Coho Pinot Noir - never had it before, recommended by the owner - DElicious! 3. Fried green tomatoes appetizer with tomato and goat cheese sauces. The tomatoes came out hot and crunchy, perfectly prepared. 4. Duck Confit entree - rich and flavorful like others but super crispy and superb. 5. Seared scallop special with black truffles and creamy mushroom risotto 6. Share, share, share! 7. Ask to be seated in the empty two-top on the patio to watch the sunset up close (check out sunset times before you make reservations) 8. Can't remember my husband's desert (he liked it) since I was absorbed in my yummy glass of Caymus 40th Anniversary Cabernet reasonably priced at $19. Oh, and service was excellent!
Spectacular Duck Confit ! Exquisite culinary excellence. Patio right next to the surfs of Lake Michigan. Basking under soft warm, late summer sunshine. Perfect !

Just wow.. All I can say. This place is just simply Wow. Food is excellent. The cherry bacon marmalade burger is excellent and full of flavor. Get the black bean and corn salsa side.. Just flavorful and so good. Kids Mac and cheese was very good. Comes with fresh fruit. Hummus and pita was very tasty. Chicken cherry salad sandwich my wife said was very good. All around awesome stuff and we will be back. Don't miss this place for food!!
I love the Cherry Republic for their atmosphere, their sense of community, their merchandise, and their food. My family has been coming here for years, and it just keeps getting better. I particularly love their scones, their barbeque, their hummus salad and their boomchunka cookies. Everything, though, is delicious. They successfully put a Cherry Republic spin on each of their dishes, making them unique and wonderful. It should also be said that they are great for sending holiday gifts. They package the goods beautifully. Overall, fantastic place and fantastic people.
Definitely as good as it gets...I don't give 5 starts but this place deserves it. We went there this past week on a whim since we were visiting the area and needed to feed the family. I'm a fan and will be back.... Clean, excellent but limited menu, reasonable prices and they have one of the prettiest gardens I have ever seen. Definitely try the ants on a log - I never eat celery but they've made me a believer along with their veggie burger. Both excellent choices. Pies are fantastic too along with the kids choices.....Highly recommend this place specially if you have kids in tow (even if you don't make a stop).

The food was really good. I ordered a Pesto sauce pizza, with broccoli, spinach, fresh garlic and onion. The crust was homemade and fantastic. I gave it 5 stars because of the service. He threw on some Feta cheese for me for free and was super helpful too. I didn't find him rude at all.. just really laid back...and busy.
I have to disagree-I find that they're usually unfriendly and today our entire order was wrong, which is frustrating when you pay so much for the food, and they didn't offer to do anything to fix it. I've gone here for years but I'm going to buy my sandwiches from another place for a quite a while.
Good pizza with a crispy crust. Fresh toppings. DTomato paste with zesty flavor. Worth the evening dinner choice.

Good pizza. Crust is amazing! The salads are wayyyyy overpriced, though! They are pretty quick when you order for carry out. Would recommend.
Antipasto salad was full and plenty with meat, peppers, cheese, olives and tomatoes but the ranch dressing left it lacking. It's a deli place but I expect homemade buttermilk and I got hidden valley ranch. The pizza was okay. Not the worst I've had not the best. Dough and crust were good. The pizza needed more sauce and more flavor. Without Parmesan cheese it was lacking in flavor. This place could have top notch pizza if they just added some flavor and sauce. Overall good but not great. For this town it's a good place to go.
Undercooked pizza. ...dough tasted okay. ..every restaurant in town was packed and we need to eat. So this ended up being the choice. Underwhelming to say the least. It's located within a grocery store. That was kind of weird too. They can do much better. If they do next time they will get a better review for me.

What a wonderful place! The outdoor patio is so relaxing! Kate was a wonderful server!Everything came out perfectly times. Grwat beer selection. And the, sea, seaside pasta is to die for! Thank you for a wonderful dinner! We will be sure to come back!!
We've eaten dinner at all of the restaurants in Glen Arbor and I definitely think western avenue grill has the best food. It was our 4th time eating here and we have loved everything every time we've been in. This last time, however, we sat at the bar to grab a much needed beer and a bite to eat and moved to a table about 30 seconds after sitting down because the bartender (older gentleman with glasses and a bad attitude) was such a douchebag. Literally your only job is to smile, be friendly, and serve drinks. Get it together. By looking at other reviews I see I am not the only person that feels this way. Maybe you guys are in need of a replacement. I'm still giving this place 4 stars because the food is so good. Definitely stop in here, just don't sit at the bar.
Good solid place to go for Breakfast... I was surprised the place was empty for Breakfast but it was a good solid place to get something to eat. Not the kind of place that will be famous for its dishes but at least you know it wont be bad. The service was a tad slow but I think the waitress was new. When I am back in Glen Arbor I will try them out for dinner as well.

Wood Cutter's Burrito The giant flour tortilla wet burrito is filled with seasoned ground sirloin, refried beans and onion. Topped with shredded lettuce, sweet pepper, black olive, melted co-jack cheese and their zesty wood cutters sauce. $15.95 Not quite as big $10.95 Yes, this was as good as it looks. And yes, it will fill you up. Now many might feel you can't get get Mexican in the North woods. And, those many are correct; however, the guys at the Boonedocks have been able to answer the need for Mexican food, or at least with their one offering of the Wood Cutter's Burrito! This is definitely a cool joint to be, especially during the warmer summer months. Their restaurant/bar a full corner of a block and their beer garden is just as big. If you're looking for a place to let loose, watch the game, hear a live band or just be seen, this is the joint!
Kid friendly and live entertainment. My up north burger was good but the Michigan salad was made pre order, served in a plastic dish and the dressing was served in packets. Wow.
Boone docks has pretty good food, not sure why so many bad reviews. We got there at peak lunch time and got a seat on the deck, which was already pretty packed. My wife and I both ordered burgers and they were both good. Cooked just right to what we ordered and we also got the fries instead of chips, which were really good!! We will certainly go back next time we are in Gleb Arbor!
