Every time I visit Gaylord I stop in to get a bite to eat. They never disappoint and have great food. I have been here in the winter while at Boyne or in the summer while attending Alpenfest and the quality is always consistent. Staff is always friendly and seem to know most patrons by name, prices are pretty reasonable. They have some really good specials the last time I got the breakfast pizza for breakfast one day and a beef patty infused with pulled pork and coleslaw. All of their food has that home cooked comfort food type of feel, and frequently I have watched them make it in front of me! One of the best places in Gaylord to eat in general, I will be a regular here whenever I visit!

I bought a Cobb salad today here this afternoon. Contrary to their menu description, there was no avocado and no blue cheese on the side ('though I did get blue cheese dressing). Also, the bacon was burnt and the chicken was tough and rubbery. A huge disappointment.

Jan's does have good food, let me be clear on that issue. The peanut butter pie is definitely some of the best I've ever had. The gyro, although not especially traditional is quite good, and the overall menu is interesting (especially for Gaylord) with lots of tasty options. My only complaint about the food is that it seems like onions are in just about every savoury dish, and I hate onions. So some of the pre-made salads and stuff that I would otherwise like are out for me. My star rating is mostly based on service. The lady that runs the place is herself lovely and personable. I would not say the same for the rest of her staff. One time I went in, and since it's a small place and wasn't busy at the time, I would expect a simple, "hi, what can I get for you?" Instead I was greeted with a non-verbal "what?", the eyebrow raise. I hate the eyebrow raise. It's rude. Recently I went in again, because I heard that they had Guinness cupcakes. I am a sucker for pretty much anything made with Guinness, truly. Anyway, it was lunchtime and I was in a hurry. I walked up to order and was completely ignored by a blonde lady who then left, which left me to order from eyebrow raise lady. She made it clear that she didn't give a tiny rat's behind about my time by continuing various kitchen tasks like cutting pizza (and it didn't look like it was an immediate order, it looked like she was leisurely re-stocking). She casually took my order, couldn't answer any of my questions and didn't care, and slowly packed my chef salad. While doing so, she also took the time to re-stock napkins and a few other items. I then asked about the Guinness cupcakes. Even though they were sitting right in a display case she looked blank. Couldn't tell me the price, but finally moved to get some for me. She took FOREVER. Took forever to check me out too.The cupcakes were great, but won't be back soon.

As Californians traveling through Gaylord we Yelped this deli and were thrilled to find such amazing sandwiches and service! As a plus, the deli had lots of other fun food stuffs like old fashioned candies, fresh bread and local produce! I highly recommend the TURKEY JERKY SANDWICH, a turkey version of a Rueben. Others in our large party had the friday special of the PHILLY CHEESE SANDWICH, and others gave the BLT and the PULLED PORK Five stars too! As a bonus, the staff were friendly and the prices reasonable. If you are looking for a great deli.sandwich this is the place for you! -Laura and THE CHICKEN HEADS!

Not a sit-down kind of place, Jan's has excellent sandwiches. They usually have a special that's worth investigating. I had always thought that a true delicatessen was a store that sold odds and ends of delicacies you wouldn't find in your general grocery store, and if that's what it is, Jan's fits the definition. Nice people too.
