When in Flint eat Lebanese food. That was my goal for our weekend trip. Being half Lebanese and there not being many Leb restaurants in Toronto I chose Taboon as a place to go and I'm glad I did. My husband ordered the baked kibbee with laban and fatoush salad. I had the lamb shish kebab, taboulli, and rice. The salads arrived, big and fresh, they looked and tasted great. Fresh, hot pita and the best garlic dip that I could have eaten all day. The entrees were really good, my husband described the kibbee as fluffier than mine. I really liked it, no pine nuts but that's understandable considering the price of those things. My lamb was medium rare just as I ordered, the rice fresh and light, buttery with vermicelli. Very flavorful food, large portions and that homey Lebanese taste that is hard to achieve unless it's made with love and care, which it was. Service was relaxed and very good. Will definitely be back.

This is a favorite for me and my man when we need a special night out. Its always pretty quiet which is great when you want a nice relaxing meal. Each dinner was enough to feed two people, so totally worth the price! Tonight the blender was broken (should be working tomorrow) so we couldn't try any blended drinks, but our waitress was more then helpful in choosing something else. The carrot apple juice was fresh squeezed and delicious. Bonus! As the last customers of the night they sent us home with a bag full of bread and a container of garlic spread! We will be back!

Normally I would give this restaurant a much better rating but a recent visit has me questioning if I will come back. I came here for a meal with family recently, as I have many times. The servers were not as friendly as I remember them normally being. The restaurant seemed not very well cleaned either. The bread was very good as usual, but the hommous seemed watered down. I ordered the lamb kebabs, cooked medium well. The lamb was almost raw on the inside, and given that I am pregnant that is a big issue. I sent it back to be cooked more, and when it was brought back some of it was burnt and some of it was still raw. Very unsatisfied. The booth I was sitting in also had an unpleasant odor, while I was sitting there I kept smelling it which is obviously not something you want when you are eating. To top it off, when I went to use the bathroom, it smelled like raw sewage. The drain in the floor was full of something, and the smell was bad enough to induce gagging. Also there were dirty cleaning implements on the floor behind the toilet, as well as a plunger with obvious fecal material on it. If the bathrooms are that dirty, I don't even want to know what the kitchen looks like! Like I said, I've eaten here many times in the past and it was always satisfactory. Perhaps there is new management? Very disappointed they are not keeping with their normal standards...

Good decent Lebanese style food. Great fresh baked pita bread cooked in a wood burning oven. They even give you a bag to take home with you. The garlic spread is so loaded with garlic that you have to sleep on the couch after you eat it. The stuffed grape leaves were bordering on nasty, and were barely edible. Every region of the Middle East makes them differently, but I have never tasted grapes like these before. Besides the somewhat dirty interior and grimy tables the grape leaves are about the only things to complain about. We ordered the mixed grill for two, it was more than enough for three people with leftovers. This restaurant suffers from the same malady as a lot of Middle Eastern style restaurants, when it comes to cleanliness they replicate a third world experience a little too well. What I mean by this is that the restaurant isn't exactly spotlessly clean. Filthy carpets, grimy tables, dirty tableware, bizarre decorations, dirty bathrooms, parking lots that are full of potholes, trash filled landscaping, and a building that is falling apart from lack of maintenance are not unusual. So, if you want Middle Eastern food, you have to look past all of the "warts" and carry on with your quest, this place is no exception. The oddest thing was that our waitress was obviously from the Ukraine or some other Eastern European country, but definitely not anywhere in the Middle East.

I have to say that coming from Houston and experiencing some of the best cuisine I have had in my life aside from Europe, this place did a incredible job with the Greek salad. It was better than my experience in Greek town and the lamb chops were very good and I typically shy away ftom lamb. The reason for 3 stars was the chicken Shwarma. This is a personal favorite of mine and it missed the mark by a long shot. I mean not even close! Staff was very friendly and accommodating and replaced my dinner without hesitation. Fresh baked bread and garlic dip was VERY good. Overall I would come back.

My husband and I enjoy coming here often. I can't get enough of the warm naan bread with hummus and the garlic paste. Unfortunately friends and family have to deal with the garlic breath for the entire day! We usually get the deboned chicken, fruit smoothie and hummus. I've had several of the sandwiches (chicken tawook is my favorite). Service has always be good and the portion size is huge in my opinion. We usually only order one meal and split it. They have this weird lip at their front door so wheelchair users be careful, also navigating around in the bathroom can be an obstacle for larger electric wheelchairs. They have plenty of booth and table seating. There is a small bar but no low seats but really your not missing much.

Fresh baked rolls simply amazing. The lamb shwarma is yummy also the grape leaves are yummy... Our waitress was fun and full of positive energy. Very nice on the inside up to date but the outside needs a little work ;)

  • Nancy C.

Must have - the pita and garlic dip is amazing! Also good is the shish kafta. My second time I ordered Hommous with Shawarma - it was very good, but wasn't really my cup of tea. Contrary to many of the reviews, service was excellent!

  • Connie L.

Love the bread and garlic dip! I wouldn't mind just eating that cause it's that yummy! It's a tad pricey but the portions are large, the food is delicious. There's a large menu of different options in terms of food, both lunch and dinner. Just absolutely fantastic.

Pretty authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. Terrific hummus. The bread with garlic dip is a must. Good size portions. Service is decent.

  • Shawn E.

The reason I gave this restaurant 5 stars is because the quality and taste of the food is phenomenal. The service on the other hand, is awful. They are very unorganized, inattentive, and rushed because of the lack of efficient time management.

  • Susan M.

Was my first visit but def not my last! Service was good and portions are also good. Great bread and garlic dip. Everything we tried was great. I was used to eating in Dearborn or my friends house (family is middle eastern) and this is by far the best I have found in this area. I really thought I would never find a good place like this in mid michigan but I was wrong. Prices are a little high but still worth it since portions are large.

Ordered grape leaves with lamb. Very dry. Asked if the grape leaves were frozen and then microwaved. Waitress said yes. Will not be returning.

  • Erin S.

Went here a few weeks ago, service was horrific. Waitress had no idea what she was doing, when asked simple questions like what kind of wine they had she asked my husband to 'list off different kinds and if they had it she would tell me'. Anytime I asked a question she didn't know (which was almost every question) her response was that 'she hadn't worked there in so long she didn't know'. I'm not sure if the place was in desperation for a server that night but this woman should never be allowed to work there, ever again. She forgot my husbands soup, forgot my tabbouleh, took about 20 minutes to get our drinks, the list goes on. When my meal came out which was supposed to be beef shawarma (and definitely was not) I explained to the food runner (not our waitress) that it looked like either chicken or lamb but definitely not beef. She apologized and took it back to the kitchen, our lovely waitress then came out of hiding and said the beef was overcooked and she HAD to send it back. Um no, first of all it wasn't beef, at all. Second of all I was the one that sent it back, you were nowhere to be found. Once my meal did finally come out, 15 minutes later it was not tasty, hardly any flavor and tasted like microwaved steak. We have been here several times in the past and never ever had an experience like this. Always had great food and service so I sincerely hope that things turn around here, but for now I will not be back

Went here on a business trip. Worst customer servies i have ever had. Great food. I hope that this place can improve on its overall customer satisfaction. I would have given this more than one star if i was only treated better by the staff. If your interested in being treated kindly, dont go here

Best middle eastern food I've ever had. I used to work here many years ago and have tried just about everything on the menu. Nothing has ever disappointed me. The best parts are their bread and their rice. Grilled veggies are delicious. Shish tawook, chicken ghallaba, chicken with humous, falafel, all sandwiches, and foul are among my favorites. Love this place.

    (5)
  • Steven S.

Simply as good as it gets. Everything was fresh and seasoned perfectly. Wife had the chicken swarma and loved it. I had the chicken ghallaba and it was excellent (huge portions). The grilled vegies were tasty and cooked perfectly. The fresh naan bread is the best in southeast michigan. Staff was attentive and the place was clean and attractive. We live about 40 minutes away but will be back soon.

Not fresh food! I went to Taboon Linden Rd and ordered chicken shawarma plate. When the waitress brought the order to the table, the chicken shawarma was cold and taste like overnight. This particular location is terrible because I went there three times and wasn't satisfying.

  • Linda N.

Usually great food and service. Today was a let down. The bread was raw, they were out of most ingredients for smoothies and service was extremely poor and slow. My entree was awful.... Chef left the skin on a chopped salmon ghallaba. The other 3 dinners were fine although we didn't finish them since we are now late for our event. The manager took 20% off of our bill. Appreciate the discount but we won't be back.

I was really in the mood for something with some vegetables in it and trying to avoid another fast food meal so I decided to splurge on an entree. I ordered chicken ghallaba with hummous which came with a fatoosh salad. It was pretty much a disaster right from the start. I remember asking just to double check if there were plastic utensils in the carryout as I was eating this on the run. What I didn't think to check for was that I had actually gotten any dressing for the salad. Ugh! So I ate the whole fatoosh with no dressing. Then I open the ghallaba. The stirfry looks OK. The chicken is seasoned pretty well. My side of veg instead of fries is there and in nicely charred chunks. What there wasn't any of, not even a spoonful of, was hummous. So basically 50% of the namesake component of the dish was AWOL. Even with the hummous I'm not really sure I would have been impressed with the meal as a whole for $16. I can usually get 2 meals out of the same order in the Detroit area. But yeah for $16 with no dressing and no hummous I was wishing I had just gotten fast food at that point. Now to be fair to Taboon I did not contact them to make it right. But to be fair to me I was on the clock for work with a large truck and trailer and I had already left the area and I had zero time to go back and rectify the situation so I really didn't have a choice. Please pay more attention to your carry out orders in the future.

Having tried their falafel plate and hummus appetizers a few times now, I can honestly say that it is really yummy. Dare i say it, it might even be better than Anita's! (oh dear, i didn't just say that) Well, just the falafel. For everything else, still love Anita's. Badawest doesn't compare.

it's hard to find good ethnic food in flint, which is why i'm giving taboon a five. aside from it's location it's more realistically a four. the first time we visited taboon was while we were picking up our puppy west of flint. we stopped in for some wraps. we got falafel, shwarma and a grape leaf wrap. the grape leaf wrap was actually really good, though i don't get those often. the shwarma was pretty standard, my boyfriend, who ate it, said that he doesn't really eat shwarma but like it. The falafel was a little small, but really cheap and totally adequate. the second time we went in we got a veggie platter. we were also very drunk and they were exceptionally nice despite this. the garlic dip is awesome!

  • Randy C.

Fresh! Great food and above attentive service. Their chicken is fantastic. You could make a meal out of the bread and garlic dip.

  • Paula M.

I usually come here for dinner. I have never been dissapointed. The food is delicious! The sharwammas, soups, fatoosh salad, hummus, garlic dip, stuffed grape leaves and the bread are all yummy. They bake the breads fresh in the oven right in front of you to see. The service is always great too. Usually, the waitresses provide us with great service. The last time I went, we noticed a little fruit fly land on our hummus. We told our waitress and she promptly removed the hummus and brought us a fresh serving. I would give 5 stars if cleanliness didn't catch my attention here. Sometimes they fail to clean out the area between the booths and windows. Nothing drastic, just napkins or wrappers. It is annoying to eat a meal with garbage lying around. I still enjoy this place though. I am always craving the food here.

  • Rob E.

Work lunch here recently was solid. App trio with hummous, baba ganoush, taboulli, garlic sauce, and pickle/raddish plate was quite amazing. I enjoyed a shish tawook sandwich and lentil soup. The other 2 options nearby in Flint may have just lost, although I still enjoy the one in the old Moy Kong spot as a place to sit down at for lunch. I am not surprised by some other awful reviews here....all family owned places have bad periods in operation. Last week was my first time to eat here and I can only say it was quite incredible. Their bread from that oven is spectacular!

  • Jake M.

The service was awesome. We had never had shwarma and they gave us a sample before purchasing anything. The food was fresh and delicious. Couldn't have asked for more.

Fluffy pillows of pita baked fresh out of the oven ( between me and my friend I think we went through 3 baskets of pita..and were even offered a bag of them to go!) Deliciously charred vegetables two words...garlic dip! Ohhh my I love this place, please set up shop in Atlanta please?!? The shish tawook was excellent, as was the crushed lentil soup! * crying tears of garlic* I will see you again soon my love!

  • Brian W.

Service has taken a hit since they acquired the grand blanc location. The shish kafta was overcooked, almost burnt. Hummus? Well worth it. Fresh pita bread? doesn't last long at the table.

I love the food here the prices are good and so is the Service. I know it's a small thing but I LOVE the fresh bread! On Friday nights they had live entertainment.

We love this restaurant and visit every time we are in town. The hummus is some of the best I have had and the bread with the garlic spread is incredible!

having recently moved from the middle east to the US. Taboon is nowhere close to authentic middle eastern food. BUT I still enjoyed the food, we had the a mixed beef and chicken shawerma platter, a mezza combo and taboon grill combo. the portions are definitely amercanized, 1 platter is enough for 2 in my opinion. I do have some complaints, the food could use more seasoning, the garlic dip is toooooo garlic-y, my mom makes better falafel at home. but overall, i'm coming regularly to this place to satisfy my homesick cravings! 1 last comment, the place suffers from an identity crisis, there's some arabic music playing near the bar which I enjoyed but what's with the guy playing the guitar for live entertainment?! and I literally did not see any middle eastern person there! If this was my business, i'd show my face to give the place more credibility! although from all the great reviews, apparently it does not need it anymore.

Oh wow the bread here is to die for! The garlic stuff you dip the bread in is great too!! I also had grape leaves they were fantastic! I will go back!

Taboon is easily my favorite place to go when I'm in Michigan visiting my boyfriend's family. The chicken shwarma is some of the best I've ever had, and the bread and garlic dip is to die for. Any fan of Middle Eastern food should check out Taboon.

  • Tony S.

This is an excellent Middle-Eastern restaurant. I had been afraid to give it a try, as some of my friends did not recommend it -- however, their reviews were entirely unfounded. The fresh baked pitas are excellent, especially when paired with the fresh hummus. The garlic sauce is very strong and their shawarma is wonderful. The shawarma sandwich is also excellent, and very much recommended, with the traditional pickle bringing out the excellent flavor of the meats.

Best chicken shawarma sandwiches ever! The bread and the garlic sauce are insane!! We eat here all the time and always have a good experience.

I love shwarmas. My review concerns these specifically. I have not tried anything else from this restaurant. The shwarmas were horrible. I have had them from a dozen places, and this is the first time I was actually unable to finish eating one. They are full of grease like a Halo burger, and taste even worse than one. The atmosphere inside is very nice. The staff seem really friendly... I wanted these to be good... I really wanted them to taste decent, but they are just terrible. The "lamb" did not taste like lamb... The chicken was so bad, I couldn't eat more than a bite. The ingredients seemed low quality and bland. Maybe I just came there on an off-day, but I'm not going to try it again to see if that was the case.

Scenario: You're in Flint and you're a vegetarian. Pickings are slimmmmmm! SO being a lover of international cuisine, I tried Taboon after visiting The Valley and I've been pressed ever since! I'm very picky about falafel, but of their's I approve. Its not too dry and is perfectly spiced. Grilled vegetables are healthy and are never overcooked... add the almond rice and I'm easily satisfied. I usually order a lentil soup for my toddler and she LOVES it too! The warm bread is so delicious and they make sure you get plenty of it! Some nights there is live entertainment and if you have children you can make a good cultural experience out of it.

I had high hopes for Taboon, but I was left disappointed. I ordered a half order of hommos and a falafel sandwich to go, which took about 25 minutes even though there were only two tables of people in the restaurant who already had their food. Maybe that's how long it normally takes there, but I was surprised at how long the wait was for such a small, simple order. The pita and hommos appetizer was very good and the falafel balls were good inside the falafel sandwich, but there wasn't any lettuce, two small pieces of tomato and a LOT of pickles. I know pickles are optional in a falafel sandwich, I was just caught off-guard by the tomato/lettuce/onion to pickle ratio. With more lettuce, tomato, onion and tahini sauce, and no pickles, I think this would be an excellent falafel sandwich. Next time I will call well in advance and make some minor alterations to see if Taboon will be my go-to falafel destination.

I think I'm in love! My husband took me here for dinner. He told me their bread, hummus, and parsley salad was to die for ---- and he wasn't kidding! The decor is a little bland --- it looks like it was a former Denny's or Mexican American restaurant. There's a really cool brick oven in the middle of the restaurant --- a middle eastern woman (I think this place is family run --- and the lady is the mama) stands there and makes the awesome bread. The bread is soooo tasty--- crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bread forms a little pocket (kind of reminds me of a pita) where you can stuff hummus (I stuffed the parsley salad and a slab of the garlic butter in mine). The staff here is awesome --- very friendly and attentive. Another cool feature they have is their hookah room, located in a separate little room when you first walk into the restaurant. I didn't go in because I didn't want to look nosey --- but if you're into the hookah, you could totally smoke some after dinner. Too bad this restaurant isn't in California ---- I would come everyday!!

This was a pleasant surprise - we pulled off the highway for lunch between Grand Rapids and Toronto, and were expecting to have to get fast food. Instead we got good Middle Eastern food, hot fresh pita, and really sharp garlic sauce. My colleague and I both got lunch specials - I had the Wednesday "Chicken with Potatoes" with a house salad, and he got the "One Shish Kabob" with soup. The kabob was a beef kabob. He said it was good; not much else to report. The chicken was not what I was expecting, but it was good - it was a bowl of cubed chicken breast and potatoes in a tomato sauce, accompanied by rice with slivered almonds. I was surprised because the description was "baked" and what showed up was "stewed", but it was tasty. Overall the menu is extremely varied; if I lived nearby I would have fun working through it. So the food is good, there is plenty of it, and the extremely fresh bread is a huge plus. For lunch, they could have been a buck cheaper, but that's a pretty minor quibble. Good road food for us, solid Middle Eastern for the people of Flint. A win-win.

I am LOL at the previous/first review because I think the Flint location really *was* a Ram's Horn in a former life. It is SO MUCH BETTER in this incarnation. I say this presumptively, as I have never had the {{missed}} opportunity to dine at a Ram's Horn. This is a really great Lebanese restaurant located just outside of metro Detroit. Another solid contestant in the "Let's forget La Shish ever existed" tournament. The pita is warm, fluffy, and doughy. Their tabbouleh is a bit heavy on the mint but it's refreshing, actually. I love their fattoush and my family's positively addicted to their chicken saute appetizer - be forewarned, this first course is massive and will push that waistband to its limits. The standards of shawarma and tawook are solid but I love, love, love their ghallaba. Add a healthy, hearty dose of rice with just a touch of oil and you have one fat n happy customer!

We have been going here for a few years. Disappointed that the Grand Blanc location closed a couple years ago. The Chicken Tawook with lemon is one of the best items on the menu. Their fresh bread and hummus are very nice.

Yum! Yum! Yum! Food is good, the prices are good and the staff is very nice! what more could you ask for? Now some people say that Bada West is better, I'm going to have to disagree.

This is one of our favorite Middle Eastern restaurants. Taboon has very good food, including excellent fresh oven-baked bread. The bread oven is fun to watch for adults and kids alike. Their hummus is fantastic, as is their tabouli. They also make fresh smoothies, which my wife and kids love. We actually liked their Grand Blanc location better, but sadly, that one has closed. The atmosphere was a little better there. This one feels a little like an old Ram's Horn or something, but it doesn't really detract from the experience. This restaurant is nice for a family dinner, with plenty of room for larger groups. It's worth the occasional drive, better if you're already in the area for shopping or other activities.

Top choice for Lebanese in the flint area due to the total package - freshly baked hearth oven bread, pretty solid fattoush and tabbouleh, and perhaps the best hummus outside of the old country. The only thing that could make it better would be that they use whole-wheat flour for their bread, but that's just nitpicking. Get the shish-tawook with grilled vegetables for entree and you won't be sorry.

I very rarely write reviews, but after my first visit at Taboon today for lunch, I feel I need to give them the credit they deserve. I had a business related reason to be in Flint and am very picky about where I eat nearly always choosing local and organic restaurants. Flint has nothing to offer in this category so I looked at reviews for Middle Eastern food and found Taboon. I was impressed with the reviews and having eaten at many Mid Eastern restaurants over the years, I suspected I would like it but nothing more. Boy was I shocked. This is hands down the best Middle Eastern food I've had. Extremely fresh, juicy, well balanced and perfectly spiced. I was torn between two sandwiches or a sandwich and soup. I found the soup and sandwich combo on the menu and decided to get the Tawook and Tabbouleh sandwich plus Hommus and the crushed lentil soup. The sandwich was big and I would have been hurting if I had eaten two - I can eat, but that would be pushing it. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked, slightly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and tasted like real chicken... wonder if they get it from a local farm. The Hommus had great flavor as well as did the Tabbouleh which was extremely fresh. The soup was equally as good with just the right amount of spice and the freshly cooked bread with side of garlic complimented the soup just right. As far as wait: I walked in around 12:30pm on a Friday. The place was fairly busy but not crowded. I ordered carryout and was told it would take about 15 minutes. An honest 17-18 minutes later, my food came out so no complaints there. If you're in the area and like Middle Eastern food, make sure you visit Taboon's! I know I'll be back whenever I'm back in Flint.
