Tried this on a whim like most places and were very happy. Had poyo acopulco or something along those lines and a 3 taco platter. Tacos beef was dry but had so much flavor it didnt matter and I love a juicey taco! Poyo was fantasic. Rice was good. Only complaint is that benches shift as theyre not attatched to the floor. Food tastes very freah and cleanly cooked ie not greasy. Great find. Cant wait to come back! Have been back since starting this draft. Food is still great but since being back we've noticed the female wait staff kind of sucks. All friends and relatives, more occupied with each other than the customers and one got pretty smart ass with about how we were placing our order. Cse la vie. We'll still go back but we hope we dont deal with those girls again.

This place is amazing, for the price you won't find better prepared Mexican food. The service is so fast it can almost be unsettling at times. I've had food placed in front of me and three guests less than 5 minutes after ordering, literally. Highly recommend.

They have a huge menu with all the standby Americanized Mexican favorites, and some off-the-beaten-path fare as well. I had a great pork dish, Chile Verde. Their Carne Asada is very good too. The other entrees were all well received by my co-diners. Service for our party of 8, while very friendly, was spotty on the accuracy and efficiency. One wrong order had to go back and the runners didn't have a clue as to who got what, and were nearly unintelligible - we ended up needing to switch a couple of plates around once they landed. Drink refills came slow, and we had to track our server down after waiting for the bill about 10 min. It wasn't that busy in there, so I am not sure what was going on. If the service improves on future visits this place easily deserves a 4-star review. This is a favorite neighborhood spot for my in-laws and I am sure we will be back.

Quite possibly the best Mexican food north of M-59! I absolutely adore their chilaquiles. The menu includes traditional Mexican favorites, like tacos and burritos, but also includes chorizo-based appetizers and fantastic seafood plates, too. I'd rather drive to El Potrero than have just about anything local.

I love El Potrero. We started coming to this location after the one in Holly, where we'd moved, had closed. They have great food, and friendly servers. We've tried a lot of the menu, but we usually go back to our favorites, mine being the grande fajita burrito (adding tons of the green El Yucateco habanero sauce- YUM), and his, the chicken fajita nachos. We always get the cheese dip, which is great, and we leave stuffed. We've moved to Macomb County, and it took us 4-5 tries of different Mexican places before finding a non-terrible one. Sadly, they do not have anything similar to my beloved fajita burrito, though. :(

I have lived all over, including San Antonio TX. Let me tell you that this is my all time favorite mexican restaurant ever. Whenever i am home this is the number one place i must eat at. Chimichangitas! Eat them. You need to. What is that cheese? Crack? I absolutely cant stop eating it. The stew beef they use is a great addition too. simply dishes that have just been perfected. i love el potreros.

One of the three El Potrero locations throughout Genesee County. Love their unlimited chips and salsa and margarita specials. Watch out, though- those margaritas are by no means weak! Very friendly and speedy service. You never wait for drink or chips n salsa refills. They have a decent number of vegetarian options, which is a big thing for me, as I am a vegetarian and don't believe the world should revolve around beef. As for the veggie options, they are made with fresh veggies and the food isn't oily or taste like it's soaked in grease, so that's a plus. It's a nice place for dinner or even if you're only stopping in for drinks and nachos, too.

El potreros has a nice environment and a decent bar in the middle. The food is above average quality as far as mexican places go. The environment is better than most. Prices are pretty standard like most similar places. The fajitas are really good. I also like the veggie fajitas. Quesadillas are good. Soft tacos are good too. This is a laid black place and the staff is pleasant. The rice is a typical rice like a lot of places; dry and plain; not so great. If I'm not in the mood for Mexican so much, I get the pollo Rico or pollo gringo, which are pretty good chicken meals.

They have great lunch specials. They don't have an official wheelchair accessible bathroom but my chair can fit in if the for status open. They do have adequate accessible parking spaces. They have a huge lip at the front door and again on your way in to the dining area....be careful. The food is good and drinks are cheap.

My favorite Mexican restaurant anywhere. The food is always fantastic and prices are fair. Can't get enough of the Mexican Parrillada!

When an establishment moves out of a strip center into its own building nearby, that's usually a pretty good sign that they're doing good for themselves, which must mean that people enjoy their food. Such is the case with El Portrero, which scooted a bit north (next to Burger King) and and took up residence in an old rib joint. The decor and menu are pleasantly authentic/Tex-Mex with both traditional and progressive offerings plus a full bar that stands prominently in the center of the place. I ordered the El Guero Special - strips of grilled chicken, steak, chorizo, and shrimp sautéed with onions and mushrooms topped with melted cheese. Served with rice, beans, and tortillas for $11.99. Prices across the board looked to be very reasonable. Food was very tasty and the margs were awesome as well. My server was a little over-attentive, maybe pressure's on to please here in the new location. They should fix the step from the host stand to the dining room. Someone may forget to say "watch your step" and bodies will stumble. Some miscommunication took a star off - your mileage may vary.

Came here with a friend on a late, freezing cold night. There was only a few other people dining in. Our server was very friendly and made some good suggestions on what to order since we had never been here before. My friend had a shrimp and chicken dish with a white cream sauce on top. It came with soft shell tortillas, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. I had the shrimp enchiladas that came with grilled onions on top with the white cheese sauce. Both dishes came with Spanish rice. Both were excellent and the portions were large. The chips and salsa were also tasty. We were both very happy with our meals and would definitely come back if we were in the area.

Great service Great food. The only thing preventing me from giving this visit 5 stars was the dry chicken served up inside my chimichanga Wife was very satisfied with her meal and the beer was amazingly cold... We are true fans and will be back!

This place is going down hill fast. We stopped here tonight. We were quickly seated. 16 minutes later we had not seen a waitress. We got up to leave and a waitress tells us to have a good night. We had this problem before they moved and did not go back until they relocated. Kind of wrote it off as a 1 time thing. We used to stop here every week and likely will not return.

I travel through all the states and I have to say this place has some really good mexican food. I ordered the pollo fiesta. Other places call it chori-pollo. It's chicken breast with sausage on top. It was amazing! The seasoning was just right. I love mexican food and I rarely write reviews unless the food is really good. I will be coming back.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant ever. They have the best cheese on their chimichungas. Service is awesome.

Their food is amazing. The staff is super helpful and can walk you through the menu if you have questions. Their 'fajita' style meat is too spicy for me - but I am a "no spice" kinda girl. The medium tacos (not hard, not soft) are a favorite. Too they will modify things for you - boyfriend generally gets shredded chicken soft tacos with cilantro and chorizo added to them. The new location is just down the road, and it is a much larger place and the new bar is great! This is not overly fancy food, simple, direct and full of flavor. The cheese is insanely good. I always feel like I am sitting at a friend's house eating delicious food, because their Mom is just an amazing cook. Love it here.

Very good food. I've eaten here many times and have never had a bad dish. The staff knows the menu and can explain any dish if your not sure what it is.

They just moved to the north. A lot more room, you are no longer crowded when they are busy. Good food. Great lunch specials. The lunch fajitas were almost as large as a dinner fajita elsewhere. Simple food. Good taste. Excellent service.

I ordered Taco salad and it had the meat was tasteless no season.white cheese, lettuce and tomatoes on the side with sour cream. The waitress asked us what we want to drink and she doesn't know much English, she kept saying do you want coke,we said no just water. The tables were so small and with all the condiments and sauces on them took up the room on the tables,no room to eat.

Enchiladas Rancheras are the absolute best. I've been here dozens of times, and have never tried anything else, so take my review with a grain of salt. Their chips aren't amazing, but the salsa is really good. I've always gotten good service, and the prices are great. It's a nice, clean restaurant. (Seriously, get the enchiladas rancheras)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
