Pros: * very friendly staff that's eager to please * reasonable prices for decent quantities of food * early opening hours for breakfast * sandwiches made on their own homemade bread Cons: *The place is small. It gets very crowded quickly. * There are no real menu options for alternative diets or many substitution choices. Conclusion: I certainly wouldn't advise a special trip, but if you're in the area, and need quick, simple food for breakfast or lunch, this place is reliable. There aren't too many of those in the area!

I don't know about anything else on the menu because this was the first time I went, but I can speak for the New York Burger. As I told all my co-workers, this burger is "ON POINT." This was ham, bacon, tomato, swiss cheese, mayo, and cooked mushrooms and onions on a nicely seasoned beef patty. Oh, and crowned with a pretzel bun. *sigh* THAT HIT THE SPOT.

The Loon's nest is a small restaurant hidden in downtown Fife Lake. Inside is a log cabin look, with historical pictures adorning the walls. My husband and I have been dining here for over seven years and love it. Owned and operated by locals, Ed & Cathy, and their son, Keith. They genuinely care about your happiness, and will do whatever they can to ensure you leave satisfied with your meal. . Ed bakes up fresh homemade breads that are soooo yummy. And if you get really lucky to be in on the days he makes fresh monster cookies, then you must try them. They are my favorite. The pizza is terrific, and the cherry pecan French toast is my regular breakfast food along with the biscuits and gravy. If you have a special request, just ask, because they are more than willing to make your favorite dish just the way you like it. I highly recommend The Loon's Nest to anyone who likes down home comfort food and friendly service.

We're sick of fast food places and needed a place between Petoskey and Grand Rapids for a quick lunch. We stopped on a Wednesday found a seat at this tiny spot. The waiter (I assume it's Ed) was charming. Although there's maybe only 7-8 tables, it's a cute room and very cozy. My husband ordered the "skillet" which was fabulous. Light hash browns with perfectly prepared eggs. My Patty Melt is among the best I've ever had (and I'm fussy about this!). The meat patty was moist and the onions generous. Most importantly, the rye toast was lightly toasted, not at all overly toasted. We were treated like honored guests and noticed that the place filled up fast at noon. Lovely people, outstanding service and yummy food! This will be our go to place on the long drive down US 131.

Stopped on our way south from Bellaire to Holland and found this place to be a great change from fast food. Worth the short drive into downtown. Hamburgers cooked perfectly, salad delicious & fresh, service fantastic. Loved it!
