I love Danny's. My wife and end up there almost everytime we're in Ferndale. The drinks are stiff and the service is stellar. The only thing I wish were different, is I'd like to leave there without smelling like I just finished a shift at McDonalds. Even my undershirt stinks like grease, but of course that won't stop me from going back.

What a dive!!! Had a great time and I recommend it to everyone!

I came here for St. Pattys day.. my fault. Just a small dive bar with a lot of drunks crowding around the bar to get their next fix. My friend and I were lucky enough to spot a small table and grabbed it even though there were plastic cups, cans and old beer all over it. If you're using cards there's a $10 minimum. Just order a beer and a shot and tip. You should be fine. I loved the people watching, it was hard to get a beer (but again it was St. Pattys Day) and the music was extremely loud. My friend and I thought we were going to lose our voice because we were screaming to have a conversation. I come to Ferndale often and this was my first experience at Danny's. St. Patricks day isn't going to scare me though, I'll be back for another taste. And people keep talking about this dog. I'm looking for him next time. Nothing better than dogs at the bar as if they were regulars.

Worst experience! Very poor service. Waitress with tattoo sleeves made a scene. She was extremely rude and inappropriate. Never coming again and highly advise others not to either. Worst experience ever. If you look at the other reviews, they also comment on the terrible wait staff.

  • Conner P.

Would have given this place 5 stars but the had to deal with the rudest bartender/waitress. Food was good and the beer was ok, but this lady must really hate people! So rude that I felt compelled to leave a review and warn anyone thinking about going to stay away. Shame on you lady. Not to mention she was serving herself more and more booze as the night progressed. Awful.

  • Ceaser D.

Staff Rude on both visits. The waitress got an attitude with the mrs because she had taken our orders incorrectly and the mrs pointed it out....oh well....lots of other places to go

I totally thought I had reviewed Danny's, but I guess not! It's a divey bar, but not a 100% dive bar. A REAL dive bar has shady octogenarian locals who snarl at you when you come in; not hipster-type Ferndalians who spend more on their hairstyle than their beer and hog tables and stools. All in all, it's a solid place - albeit cramped, dirty, slightly unfriendly and not overly cheap. The reason we come regularly is for trivia on Monday nights. Major complaint is the lack of seating, which can get frustrating.

  • Jason M.

Been here several times but last night was my last. The bartenders are rude as hell, even by dive bar standards, especially the dark haired girl that is there every weekend night. If you put something on the jukebox that they don't like, they just change it. The TVs were playing an infomercial and when we ask to change it, she said no she likes it. The human rights campaign sticker on the door should go, because it's a pretty unfriendly place for gay guys. I also should mention that it is dirty as hell, especially the bathroom, but again kinda of expected from a dive bar. I won't be back.

Maybe going on St. Patty's day was what made the experience what it was. But seriously, I did NOT expect an Irish Pub to have such POUNDING SPEAKERS! Granted it was the first Irish Pub I've ever been to... I think. But most places that advertise themselves as pubs - English, Scottish, what have you - have been more low key! We ended up not being able to stand it for more than an hour, not only because of the music but because of the two black and white horror/thriller flicks that the two screens were showing... There was just no relief whatsoever! I am hoping that it was a St. Patty's Day fluke that it was sooo BAD... Will I be back? Only if I'm in the area and someone else insisted.

  • Rayna M.

The blonde bartender with the tattoos is just so rude every time I go in there. She's almost mad when people come in. My friends and I went in there and we tipped very well and there was no thank you or anything, just bitching. Liquor drinks taste watered down. Good atmosphere. Patrons are cool. That's all

This is Ferndale's reply to Gusoline. It's smallish, it smells a little funny and it's a little dingy but you can't tell me that you've ever had a bad time at Danny's. The bartenders here have a fuck-off attitude that I love and realistically they're all really cool people....but don't give them any grief, they will kick your ass. If you're needing a change from your normal overpriced martini bar this joint is a knock down drag out local spot that will provide an ambiance you won't soon forget. It's a little snug at capacity but their juke is solid, drinks are stiff, they have Keno and pinball and they just replaced their steel tip board and darts which is one of my main draws. You can't go wrong here, this spot is a great way to lose a few hours so update your Tetanus shot and put on a happy face and stop in for a pint.

  • Esther G.

I can't think of a single person who likes a long narrow space that can get cramped. So I don't know why this place was built that way. Or why they kept letting people in when it clearly felt over capacity. Or why the people at the table we took left what looked like coins at first glance but was actually chocolate. Was that the tip they left? I have many questions. On St. Patrick's Day, they had green beer and played Irish music -- complete with what looked like an electric violin, definitely the best atmosphere around for that day. Although it was cramped, the crowd was diverse and friendly as we chatted up with randoms. I'd love to come back on another week night or weekend to check out the vibe then.

  • Elliott B.

My go to dive bar in Ferndale with cheap drinks and free popcorn in the corner. The place is small but the crowd is always good and you can usually find a spot at the bar or small high top table. The jukebox rocks too!

    (4)
  • A. N.

It's a small dive with a juke box that customers usually fill with horrible alt rock music. However, sassy fun bartenders who have the attitude that they're the queens of Danny's. And they are! I I can handle the bad seating, awkward crowds and loud music but I really hate the chalkboard bathroom. It's too small to turn around in without getting dusty!

    (3)
  • Stacey D.

Seems like this could be a fun bar except for the bartender. She was so incredibly, yet unnecessarily rude. I'm not even sure why, it might just be her personality. I don't expect everyone who works in service to always smile and be friendly but there is no excuse to be mean and make people feel unwelcome. After one bottle of beer, I will never be back there. And I will not recommend Danny's to anyone else.

    (1)
  • Kacie M.

My sister is a regular at Danny's and invited me to Monday trivia night with her while I'm in town. Coming from Boston, where a cocktail or even a simple rum and Coke could cost you upwards of $10, I was beyond pleased to get three drinks for about $8. Cheap drinks + free popcorn + coming in third at trivia night = a pretty good night.

    (4)
  • Steve S.

Great Juke box but don't play (pay) for a song that the horrible racist, homophobic bartender doesn't like she will turn it off and then make comments about the song.

    (1)
  • Andy L.

Great dive bar with a pinball machine and a dart board. Serves good cheap drinks. And overs free pop corn. I haven't tried any of their food, but I know they serve American food. It can get crowded on Friday and Saturday, but great place to start a night or end your night.

    (4)
  • Dushawn B.

The worst bar I have ever been to. If john tapper was here right now he would shut this bar down. I had a glass with lipstick markings on it. The bartender didn't even bring me and my friends our drinks, I had to get them myself. I don't recommend this bar to anyone. All so there was a dog in here drinking out of a cup really. Talk about animal abuse. If I could I would give this place a 0. And people talk about masterbating in the bar all so the bathrooms are gross.

  • Jes P.

Danny's Irish Pub was a bit of a let down in terms of what one might expect on St. Patty's day. I went with some friends after midnight so maybe all the lore of green beer and Celtic music had died down but I felt more like it was Halloween. For starters, the two huge flat screen tvs were both showing scary flicks; Hitchcock's Psycho and King's The Shining. Second of all, the jukebox is great but expect to get a good "scare" because there doesn't seem to be any volume control. Sometimes the music was just right and other times it felt like it blew out our eardrums! Yikes! The bartenders were quick at getting our beers and we enjoyed ourselves but as other Yelpers have mentioned, the bar is very long but not wide so moving around is a challenge. The bathrooms were a fun sight and actually cleaner than I expected. So all in all, Danny's does not seem to have the "luck of the Irish" but maybe they'll do better around next time with another holiday like Halloween.

Danny's is great. Less hipster than Sneakers. Great charm to this place & very chill, not too loud but not awkwardly quiet/empty .. enjoyed the different mix of people in here, service was quality. I'll be back soon.

  • Adam K.

Bartender was majorly rude. Which is surprising. Because she's cool when she's waitresses at The Fly Trap. Maybe she was just having a bad day. MAJOR attitude.

  • Dan A.

Let me start by saying that there's nothing Irish about this place unless of course those were Irish Hipsters... Now I don't want to come off as a Vodka snob here but If a ask for "vodka" serve me whatever vodka you wish. If I ask for Stoli, serve me Stoli, don't serve me Svedka and expect me not to notice. Additionally when I call you out on this don't even think of telling me "it's all the same, you wont notice the difference" Clearly I already have noticed the difference, why do you think we're having this conversation?

    (2)
  • Sage M.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Danny's!!! Seriously. I practically live there. I might have a drinking problem. Beth and Creamy (weeknight bartenders) are the shit, they can make you anything you want or something they create whenever they're bored. They also have really good burgers for how flippin' cheap they are. House chips are also the best. I've gone during the day when Danny himself is there and he bought my friends and I a round, for "being pretty". But be warned, Beth has a bite to her, if you're being wishy washy and ask her what's on tap she'll ask you if you can read and point to the taps. I personally think that's hilarious. Did I mention that they have the cheapest drinks in town? Well mixed drinks for 2.75! So, if you've never been, GO!! It's the best bang for your buck!

I've never felt the need to write a Yelp review, however my experience this past St. Paddy's weekend at Danny's finally warranted my first review. I walked into Danny's with a few friends who had never been there for our first drinks of the night. Ok, so we ordered 4 shots to start the night off but that's no reason for the treatment the bartender gave us. She stared at us blankly after taking our order and then took forever to make them. When she returned and there was a little salt on the bar she blew it at us. WTF. The funniest part about the whole incident is that she sarcastically thanked us for the tip, obviously we didn't leave one. She also let us know very rudely that it's a faux pas to order shots at a bar. Dude, this is a bar and you are a bartender. To say this bartender "has a bite to her" is a major under statement. There are far too many awesome bars in Ferndale to deal with the shitty customer service you may receive from one of the bartenders. There are probably some people that think being an asshole to someone is funny but I don't. You can find plenty of 3 dollar drinks in this town sans the snarky, bully of a bartender at Danny's.

  • Jen O.

The girls and I had so much fun there with Beth (bartender) after burger Tuesdays at Emory. Danny's is always a fun place and very good drinks.

Not going to lie, I was already pretty drunk when we got here on a Monday night ( bar employee party, with a bus, you do the math) however a few things from Danny's stand out, the bartender was cool, especially with our large group, the women's room was covered in chalkboard paint which resulted in me being lost in the bathroom doodling for 10 minutes and the jukebox was solid. I don't ask a lot from a dive bar but Danny's hit all the nails on the head, I'll definitely be back.

    - They have a $5,000+ Dark Knight pinball machine. - I ordered a shot of Jameson that looked like a Super Extreme Big Gulp and the woman behind the bar did one with me. What else do you need to know?

Normally, Danny's is a 4 star joint at least. Friday's experience was more of a 1 star kind of time, but I just can't give them that. My bf's friend is in from out of town. He's a southern boy (read: not some pretentious ass or a frat boy type). So we decide to take him to Danny's. It sucked. The bartender that was working that night is a total snot. We walked in and I asked what was on tap. It's dark as hell inside, I can't see that well as it is, plus I didn't feel like squeezing in between people to get closer to the taps. When we ask her, she rolls her eyes, throws herself onto the counter and says ::gasp:: " You seriously want me to read to you what's on tap?" Uh, yes. You're the freaking bartender. So she rattles off her long list of (8!) beers that they had. My friend walks in about 30 seconds after us and asks what they have. She rolls her eyes and says that she already told us. So my b/f and I have to list the beers for him. It's 8 freaking beers dude. It shouldn't be that hard to memorize. It should take you a good, what? 5 seconds to say. It's not like the bar was super crowded or anything. So we get our beers and sit down near the jukebox. A girl walks over to pick out a few songs and then out of nowhere this chick follows and starts messing with her. WTF? She was saying some really weird shit. Come to find out, the girl who's acting like a weirdo is the bartenders sister. After watching that, we just decided to drink our beer and leave. Kind of mad because it was the first Ferndale bar we took our friend to, and it didn't leave a very good impression. We then took him to another bar down the street. Somehow, this experience came up and our new bartender knew who we were talking about. She said a friend of hers had the same exact experience the night before! Not good! I know I will go there again because hole in the wall bars are my type of place and there aren't many of those in Ferndale. If she's working though, I'm out.

Danny's is the Ferndale downtown strip's dive bar. The prices are what you'd expect, 2-3$ for beer, $3 for wells, etc. The jukebox is bitchin, and never ceases to amaze me with the actually great tunes they have on there. However, the fact that it is a dive bar works against it, if you ask me. Its a great place to have a beer and talk to friends. Its usually pretty chill, and relaxed kind of atmosphere. But you also get the dive bar crowd. Not the old people, they are totally awesome. But the mid 30s, I'M GOING TO THIS BAR BECAUSE ITS NOT UPSCALE crowd. Those people. They can be space hogging, loud douchelords who totally ruin the experience of going to a bar like Danny's. Expect them there on big bar nights (day before Thanksgiving, St. Patties, Friday, Saturday), but never any other time. They have to wake up early on week days, ya know? Besides that, this place is your cheap-all-the-time go to bar in Ferndale. Its a great place, just the patrons usually leave something to be desired.

  • Mark P.

Check the hipster pretentiousness at the door. This is a beer and a shot kinda joint, right up my alley. The uppity pinball machine is the cherry on top. The Oak Park and Ferndale area need more like this, preferably closer to my home.

    (4)
  • Steve L.

An extremely diverse crowd mixed with a bar-food menu and a wide beer selection make Danny's a great hangout for anyone. If you're looking for a comfortable and clean hole-in-the-wall-bar in which to relax and play some pinball, Danny's Irish Pub is the place for you.

i often choose to go to dannys before a night at the magic bag or other places in dowtown ferndale. its just so normal in here. yes, some of the customers are those grizzled, drunkard types. i would acutally rather drink with these people most the time. they never care what anyone else is doing and are often nice. no dirty looks from anybody. dannys makes a really good black and tan with either bass or harps and of course the needed guiness. i have drank wayyy too many of these in my lifetime and am happier for it. the bar is dark and a little skanky, but its a bar. its supposed to be that way. its also one of the only places in ferndale where its never too busy inside. i've walked in during dream cruise and just saddled up to the bar for a lovely black and tan. there is no pretension to this bar at all and thats why i love it there. love, juston

I've kicked my WAB habit! (applause) Danny's is the answer. Last time I was there I was literally told that "there's nothing you can do to get kicked out of here" by the chap behind the bar. This is good... because it was my birthday and I knocked a table full of drinks over. I don't think he even noticed. That's what I'm talking about! Not necessarily a rowdy crowd... but a crowd that's over the posturing rubbish at other area bars and just wants to get down to business. Business I say! Drinks are still cheap as hell. The stools are still wobbly. There's Bell's on tap. Emory who?

A+ for the pinball machine and for photohunt. although the pinball machine is kind of on the fritz (either that or we play there too much and are driving it into the ground. oops.) unexpectedly good beer selection, good prices. one of my favorite dives in ferndale.

    (4)
  • Deborah R.

This is definitely a step away from all other enviornments in Ferndale bars. Completely a dive, hole in the wall completely with drunken regulars. I enjoy it and while bar-hopping it was a good change of pace. Decent mixed drinks and an atmosphere that made me feel like I needed a shower afterwards (in a fight-club, snatch type of way). I say it's a-ok.

  • Terrance W.

Alright for a drink or two, my problem stems from the fact that there was no Hennessy! I went to my alternate drink (capt and coke) guess what...no capt!

  • Rachel M.

Where else can you get cheap beer and play "Stewies Mini Pin Ball" not to mention no one in this joint will judge you! I like the fact that only locals know about this joint, so if your not a local dont come and ruin it!

After the most stressful day i've ever had at work in my life, we went straight to the bar and had margarita beer time. Bar of choice that day, was Danny's. They had a great jukebox, a pinball machine & the cheapest drinks ever. We got plenty drunk and it was a saturday night and wasn't crowded inside so we actually had a really great time. There were plenty of people going in and out but it never got overwhelming. We will definitely be back often.

  • Laura F.

Danny's is a great bar if you like the hole in the wall, great jukebox type of place... and I'm not talking about the average music you hear everywhere else. It's a great little bar with cheap drinks and a good dark atmosphere.
