Great atmosphere & waitress was absolutely fabulous. Food was very good, they have a variety on their menu something for everyone. It was our first time there & we will definitely be going back to try other things on their menu.

Great food at a great price. The atmosphere is outstanding, old English is awesome. Service was great and i will be going there more.

I've been to Zekes a lot. I like Zekes. It's a nice family restaurant their menu reminds me of a much homier version of T.G.I. Fridays but better and not commercialized. It's a nice laid back place to go in groups, family outtings, or just for two people.

I first tried this restaurant with my extended family about 4 years ago and wasn't impressed by their service or their food. Today I was in the area and thought I'd give it a try as I do appreciate their wide beer selection. Once again I left very underwhelmed shaking my head that people actually eat here. Don't get me wrong, the food is edible, but is it good? Worth the price you paid for it? No is the answer. My husband had the Special which was Chicken Oscar... I should have taken a pic of what he got. It was described as a chicken breast with crab meat and asparagus in a hollandaise sauce. What he got was a pre-packaged, deep fried chicken roll stuffed with questionable crab/asparagus and topped with a cheesy looking sauce. I ordered the Parmesan Chicken Pasta, grilled and served with garlic bread. What I was served was a very average marinara sauce poured over a piece of grilled chicken with a mozzarella slice over a squishy, watery bowl of pasta. Ohhhh and sprinkled with some grated Parmesan.... 1/2 order = $10.95. My husbands "special" was $11.95. The bonus of both meals is that it comes with the salad bar... thankfully or we would have been hungry when we left. I also have to add that while our server was friendly and offered suggestions from the menu, their lack of hostess at the stand is just dumb. Sign says to wait to be seated, but no one greets you once they SEE you. Too busy to acknowledge your presence I guess. As you may have figured by now... I won't be back unless I'm stranded and very thirsty.

I had a New York strip. The steak was of a very poor quality. Slow service. But they had an ok salad bar.

This is the most unorganized restaurant I have ever been to. The way to check in for a table is unorganized, and they don't communicate well. They said they only had 1 table that seats 5 people. I saw 2 though. We waited 20 minutes to get a table although there were plenty of empty tables for 4. We were finally seated. We gave the waitress our order, she brought our drinks and appetizer. The waitress comes to the table 45 minutes AFTER we order laughing (nervousness probably) telling us they lost the ticket with our orders and they have to retake our order. NO THANKS! We left. They didn't make us pay for our appetizer or drinks (just soda/tea/water). Manager apologized as we were leaving and gave us a $10 off voucher for next time. No thanks, we won't be back....EVER. I realize accidents happen, but that's like a truck driver saying, Oh, I lost my trailer, can I have another one?

Granted, Zeke's probably does not have much competition, being in a very small town. But actually, I was pleasantly surprised. We were there for a luncheon after a family funeral, with a total of 11 guests. They gave us a separate room, without an additional charge. Unfortunately it was downstairs. However, the waitress was friendly and very efficient; her name was Kaylee. She came back several times to check on us, and kept my wine glass filled, which was great after a stressful event, such as a funeral. Food was good and very reasonable. I probably should not have ordered a steak medium, as it was thin and not real tender. However, they offer many choices of fresh water fish, and people who ordered the fish were happy with it. They offer a really nice salad bar. The produce was fresh, and there were also other salads to choose--three different pasta salads, waldorf, and cole slow. Great chocolate cake for dessert. I almost forgot to mention, there is a large bar in the main area, full bar with many beers on tap, and a big screen TV. Staff seems friendly. A pleasant surprise to find this restaurant in a tiny little forgotten town.

At the in-law's cottage for the 4th of July weekend and we hit Zeke's (07/02/08). It's the first time in four years we've actually been there and it still delivered for us on a horribly rainy and scary storm night. They have over 250 bottle beers and 20 or so on tap, so you can get whatever you darn well please. I started off with a Baked French Onion soup which was fantastic. One of the best out there and I think it's because they use Monterey Jack as the cheese. Take yer' fancy Guyere and get outta here. On this night, I was just a simple guy going for the Stacked Ham and Cheese. 1/2 pound of country ham stacked with American Cheese on a large roll. Artery-clogging goodness. I had the "cajun" fries, but honestly, they are just curly fries, I didn't taste any such cajun flavorings. MK also had a Baked F.O. but followed it up with their signature home made Chicken Cordon Bleu's. She said they were fantastic but one of them was a little light on the cheese. Good food, decent prices near a lot of vacation homes.

Zeke's might be fine for a burger, but anything else is pressing your luck. I had the shrimp basket and clam basket here (separate occasions - I'm not trying to have a heart attack) and both were terribly over-cooked. Soup was ok (clam chowder that was not thick enough or hot enough). My husband had a prime rib sandwich and another in our party had the buffalo chicken wrap and both didn't feel well the next day. Skip it and head for another option. Also, I will never get over the whole "play lottery while you eat" fascination in MI. This is just weird and wrong. It's not Vegas, people.

In a word: underwhelming. It's just your average small-town American diner with no particular specialty. Ordered the quesadilla and I can say it genuinely put me off making a return trip. I imagine their burgers are better, but Beeson St. Grill down the block is where you'd go for one of those.

4 stars for the beer selection, which is completely ridiculous and admirable. You're at a bar, so if you're looking for bar food, you're in the right place. If you're fussy, please remember that there are other, more upscale options in downtown Dowagiac. Zeke's is really cool because of the view you get of downtown Dowagiac's hustle and bustle. Sarcasm aside, it really is a beautiful old town. The last time I was there, my girl and I - along with several other patrons, were fortunate enough to witness a car break down, begin to smoke, and then catch completely on fire at the intersection out front. Unfortunately, the firemen got there and extinguished it before the engine exploded, but at least we got to see them tear open the hood with axes and picks.

Great place. Try the jalapeno soup. Haven't had a bad meal and nothing but good service. I will definitely be back.

Casual but fancy, Zeke's is a great place in the heart of downtown Dowagiac to sit down and eat a meal. It serves mainly american fare, but the portions and food are good. Great for family's or larger groups.
