OMG. We ordered from Salsarita for a meeting at an agency in Detroit today. Wowowowow. Let's just say that typically we have working meetings and today we weren't able to have the meeting cuz the food was so ridiculously good. First perk, they delivered!!! Second, the stuff was so fresh. It was as if the nachos just came out of the frier! And they even put a special spice on the nachos. They were thin and crispy. Wow. The salsa, veggies, everything was soooo fresh! I don't eat meat but I kind of wish I did cuz the ground beef and the chicken they sent smelled incredible. Everyone went up for THIRDS.

One of the better places to go if you are in the Rencen and need a quick lunch. Taco salad is one of my favorite things to get

Love love love their queso cheese. Best I've ever had. I literally come to this food court JUST for their cheese dip. Get the naked nachos....they'll put your chips on the side so they don't get soggy. And do yourself a favor....get an extra side of queso for later! They may be pricy but everything at the RenCen food court is. But it's filling and worth it!

This is perhaps one of my most favorite of places in the RenCen to grab a bite. It is effectively a Chipotle setup, if you've been to one of those, and you fell in love with a healthy little Burrito or burrito bowl, you will find the same here. I usually skip the chips, and grab a small (but very sizable) Burrito bowl, with chicken and plenty of salsa, veggies, cheese to satisfy the biggest hunger. A great Mexican to-go counter if you work here. Lunch rushes are well handled and usually move quickly even with long lines. You can be in and out in under 5 min in most cases. Try it!

Chipotle wannabe with a ridiculous line, not much flavor and not very filling. Since I was told not to go outside on Detroit or I would be killed (ok-maybe they didn't say exactly that....but still, close enough) this was one of the only g-free option outside of not eating just the meat from a Big Mac. Oh Midwest. Anyway. It was what it was. I didn't expect much, but I'm not sure it was worth the line.

Let me get this out of the way from the start. This is NOT authentic food. However, if you are looking for authentic Mexican food in a food court; you really ought to check your priorities. This style of restaurant most reminds me of subway, brought to Americanized Mexican food. You chose you're size, meat (I prefer to go Veg), rice, and bean. Then you go and chose what other toppings you want, which range from : Salsa, Guac, Lettuce, Cilantro, Tomatoes, to many others. I really like it, the people at this location are nice enough, and it gets a lot of people coming in so the turnover is pretty good (meaning the toppings are usually fresh). The hard part of rating this, is what do I rate it against? Do I rate it against Taco Bell (in which case it get's a 5), or do I rate it against a more authentic Mexican place (in which case it gets like a 3 or 4). At the end of the day, based on it's own merits, the food is fresh, the service is good, the concept is good, and the fact that at once point I was eating here weekly, if not multiple times per week. I would say I like this place, and would and do go back.

West of the Mississippi you have Baja Fresh. East of the Mississippi you have Salsarita's Fresh Cantina. This outlet is in the food court at the bottom level of the Renassiance Center (aka RenCen) in downtown Detroit. Salsarita's has the usual American flavored Mexican food choices: Burritos, from $5.29 - $5.99 for regulars to $5.79 to $6.99 for large. Tacos, Nachos, Quesadilla's, Enchiladas, Salads, Sides. You can choose the fillings and salsas on most everything you order. I ordered a chicken Quesadilla with everything except onions and a mixture of medium and hot salsa. You can turn any item into a combo meal, like Burger King or Subway, and you have choices there. I opted for chips and guacomole and a diet coke. Total was $9.09 with tax. They also have a kids meal, taco or cheese quesadilla, served with chips, cookie and a kid's softdrink, for $3.49. There are at least 5 locations in Michigan: in Allen Park, Ann Arbor, Brighton, Troy and Detroit here at the RenCen. There are about 80 outlets total, all east of the Mississippi. And where is this "fresh Mex" fast food chain headquartered? Texas? California? Florida? New York? Nope, nope, nope and nope. Try that oasis of Fresh Mex food......... Charlotte, North Carolina!

Salsarita's is the new hot spot in the food court of the RenCen. If you're coming for lunch, make sure you get there early, or be prepared to wait. It's a fresh mexican cantina with tacos, enchiladas, burritos, taco salads, nachos... they run the gammit. It's set up like subway where you tell them what you want on your food. The portions are huge and they have a great variety of toppings. I find the meats to be all a little salty, so the vegetarian option with the black beans is always my best bet. It's a good addition to the RenCen, and it's better than the Taco Place that left it. But when you're this close to Mexicantown, I'm not sure if it's a 100% winner.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
