We were in The Thumb of Michigan for an extended stay and we LOVED it here at JJ's. This was actually the first place had dinner during our stay in Caro. It was our "to-go-to" place not only for ourselves but if someone came to see us and asked to meet for a meal. (We did eat a couple other places locally at someone else's suggestion.) We do think it was the nicest place in Caro - and locals shared the same thing. The other diners were most often locals - and both young families and senior citizens. Janice was our first server and during all of our visits here, she was the best! Even when she wasn't our server, she would make sure our beverages were filled and everything was OK; she keeps busy!!! (and the other servers, while pleasant, didn't keep our beverages filled - hence 4 stars.) They have specials every evening - and a nice variety on the regular. There are the "meat and potato" type main dishes, main-dishes salads, dinner sandwiches (eg French Dip), and WONDERFUL soups. We actually had several of their soups and it was wonderful!!! A regular soup of theirs is Harlequin Stew - a wonderful mixture of different types of Michigan beans - seasoned to die for. We even got some of this to-go so that we could have it in our room on evenings when we wouldn't go out to eat. Their French Onion Soup is SOOOO good - I made a meal of that a couple times. It was truly one of the top onion soups I've ever had! We did splurge one night before leaving Caro and got the lobster mac and cheese!!!! It was sooooo good - with lobster not only in the mac and cheese but also a claw across the top of the dish - soooo - more lobster meat. We are not large eaters (which was hard here - as their food was so good!) and sometimes we would get their Harlequin Stew and their wonderful honey mustard slaw - We were very content with that. Guests are always served a bread basket with bread and little fritters w/cinnamon sugar - soooo good. There are two parts to the restaurant - on facing the parking lot (bar area) where there is also dining, and an area overlooking a grassy meadow-type area. While we never saw any deer, many told us that they were often there. There are bird feeders there and we did enjoy MANY different types of birds. We will miss not having this to go to! (Not open on Mondays)!!! I share that as it took us a couple of times of going there on Monday to remember.

Really hometown feel, I was very happy with the service and the great menu choices. The waitress was very attentive and cheerful. I had the Chicken Carbonara, it was prepared perfect!! Full of flavor and the portions where enough for 2 people. The atmosphere is down to earth and has a family friendly environment. The bathroom was very clean and the manager was really friendly. Looking forward to going back.

Great place, beautiful backyard view, yummy food, loved the little bread basket with orange fritters, chicken salad with fresh fruit was excellent, service was great. One of the best dining experiences in the Thumb area!

The last time we came here was Mother's Day. They had a "special" menu just for Mother's Day. This usually means a limited amount of choices and extra high prices. That's exactly what we got. Ostensibly, the idea of a limited menu on special holidays is so that the kitchen staff can make the food quickly, well that didn't happen. We waited like an hour for the food and then it was crap. Orders were all mixed up and made wrong too. My sister's family ordered deep fried appetizers that turned out to be house made. The batter was nasty and dripping with grease. I can't believe they serve such bad food here. My bacon wrapped fillet was nearly raw and still ice cold in the middle, I ordered it medium. Because I didn't want some upset cook spitting in my food, I didn't send it back. I did point it out to the owner when we were paying the bill though. I showed him the steak and I asked him if the steak looked like it was cooked medium. He said "no. I would say that is raw", then he just gave me the bill and walked away. I couldn't believe that he didn't even apologize. The décor here is quite strange, much like some weird state hospital or a convalescent home. There is a large window that shows a garden area though. We got to see two of the most feminine homosexual men kiss and grope each other in the garden. Really quite an unexpected extra feature that we never could have imagined to see. By the way, if you do go out the garden area, plug your nose, because an over powering stench of an open sewer fills the air. My bill was pushing the $100.00 mark without the tip. What a rip-off! I will never come here again, I said that after a similar experience five years ago, but I got my arm twisted into coming to this craphole again and I gave in. I won't give in next time.

Great almost hidden place off the road. Awesome food and service. Landscaped back 40 with deer and turkeys to enjoy while you eat. Excellent lounge area. Fried pickles were amazing. Will be here again guaranteed.

Eat here often and I enjoy the food. The service is great when they are not slammed and the prices are fair. A very cozy atmosphere. Try the Chicken Almondine!

JJ is great for business lunch; especially when you are visiting for the day.

There is a reason you think of the word "joke" when you see this restaurant's name. That's because this restaurant IS a joke. The food is bland, tasteless and boring. The service is terrible. The waitress gave my husband her phone number right in front of me while taking out drink order! The decor is a pathetically hilarious attempt on trying to be stylish-- in the 1980s. And for those prices, the food should have been 5 star quality but it wasn't. The only thing that saves this place is the view. But I would NEVER come back to a restaurant just for a view

If you are visiting Caro this is a must stop. Recently updated in every way, from decor to a chef. The food is unique, delicious, and more than affordable. Service is good and I also had the option to talk with the owner. Not only does it deliver inside, but the restaurant surroundings are beautifully landscaped offering views of flowers, a water fountain, and wildlife such as deer, turkeys, and unique birds. Can't wait to visit again.

The bartender/manager was really attentive and this was the only place in town with the big ten package so we could watch the Michigan/Michigan State game. The decor has been recently updated and I found the atmosphere to be quite cozy in the bar. I also liked that the owner was visiting tables during the dinner rush- classy. But the food was marginal at best. I ordered bacon wrapped filet medallions med rare and they came out like shoe leather. The manager took the meal off my bill even though I didn't ask him too. The escargot appetizer we shared was overcooked- nothing worse than rubbery escargot. It's like overcooking scallops- rubbery is just really bad. So- the verdict is good service, but not good food.

So happy I came across this hometown restaurant on my travels through Caro. Being from the city I don't come across many family owned and operated businesses where the heart and soul of the hometown community is palpable throughout. Great food, great service. I've found a must stop on my route up north.

If visiting Caro you must visit JJ Jamokes. Caros options are not that great but this place is amazing. The baked french onion is the best I have had in a long time.
