Ordered the happy family extra spicy, came with soup and egg roll. Presentation was great, meat was delicious. I'll be back for another round!

This is the best place for "Chinese" food in Cadillac. Obviously it's the Americanized version of Chinese food that we like to call Chinese, but it's still pretty good. The staff are always very friendly as well.

We like coming to this place. The owners are friendly and the food was always fresh. It's a bit Americanized, but they are adjusting to what the Northern Michigan area needs. I usually ask for the spices to be added and they always accommodate. Their Sunday buffet is usually really good. Service was always friendly and fast.

Like the other reviewer states, it is Americanized Chinese food. No Doubt about that, but every item on the menu ( and I have had most of them) is good, and made to order. The Sunday buffet is the best in town, and though the choices are limited, Everything is fresh. On the menu , Try the tofu country style, orange beef, or kung pow if it is your first time there. The specials menu on the back are not bad, but they are tempered toward the locals ( Not spicy, not much in the way of seasoning) so ask for the items how you like them, and you will be surprised.

I was told by two employees at McGuire's Resort that this was the better of the two Chinese restaurants in town. I found this to be true. Whenever I go out for Chinese in a small town that doesn't appear to have many Asians, I always keep my expectation low so as not to be disappointed. Growing up Chinese-American close to San Francisco, I tend to prefer the Chinese food that I grew up eating. That being said, I try to be fair and judge Chinese restaurants in small towns by a standard that is appropriate to a small town (i.e. I'm not comparing the food to SF Chinatown). At any rate, the atmosphere at the House of Hunan is nothing to shout about. The table was sticky and the smoking section is in the same room as the non-smoking section. The owner who runs the cash register and seats people wasn't particularly friendly, but the two waitresses I had on my two visits to House of Hunan were both very friendly and provided good service. The food is decent considering the small-town factor. The dinner special was a great deal at under $7 for your choice of entree, fried rice and an eggroll. I had the shrimp with mixed vegetables. Both shrimp and veggies looked and tasted fresh. Sauce was a bit bland, but soy sauce and hot sauce remedied that. Plenty of food leftover to take home. The lunch special was similar at $5.30 (including tax) for entree, fried rice, soup and 2 crab rangoons. I had the almond chicken which was deep-fried pieces of white meat chicken in a light colored sauce with mixed vegetables and almonds. The sauce was more flavorful than my previous meal and again the vegetables tasted fresh and there were leftovers. I have eaten at the other Chinese restaurant in town, China One Buffet and I will say that House of Hunan is a safer bet in terms of the food's appearance and quality. If you're in Cadillac and craving Chinese and don't mind eating 'American' Chinese, House of Hunan is the place.

Not the worst Chinese I've had but not very good and not worth the prices. Crab cheese was oily, chewy, and no green onion which generally will indicate a better product. Egg roll was decent, prob the best part of my meal. My husband had fried rice but that was rather bland. I has orange beef which was kind of overdone but was ok-I've had better. They did bring hot tea out automatically so that was nice. Not especially friendly service :(.

There isn't a lot of options for fast, good Chinese food in a town the size of Cadillac, and if you have read any of my other reviews on the Chinese food available here, you'll want to skip the others. Great food, ample portions, the best egg drop soup I've ever had and decent price. Hunan all the way!

Wasn't impressed with the food. The taste was not very authentic.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
