Homecooking. Friendly, pleasant service. Friendly prices. I stop here when I am in Big Rapids.
Tiny little place, but I never had to wait for a table. They have good breakfast food and friendly service. It's easy to pass by but worth stopping in.
On our way up north good stop off for a good breakfast, had the haystack with gravy on side, and water. Coffee was alright not roaster quality but okay.

Food is always great and service varies on who you get as a server. Managers aren't very friendly and don't table touch much. Love coupons would get more people in! Love that the menu is always changing and updating!!
I don't usually dine at Applebee's but I was in dire need of food while on a long drive it was the closest restaurant, I'm diabetic & my blood sugar was very low, I was getting really sick. They got me juice, bread sticks & my lunch arrived very quickly. The staff there was so caring and attentive.. several staff members checked on me frequently. I will be checking out my local Applebee's very soon!
Honestly, I would not have come to this restaurant, let alone twice in one weekend unless I was dragged here. I'm not a fan of the crapplebees. However, both experiences were quite delightful. We had large groups both visits and stuck the children at a table by themselves. The waitresses were great with splitting the bills 5-8 different ways. Our drinks were always full and the food was actually tasty. The first night the fries at our table were cold. The waitress immediately went back to the kitchen for warmer baskets.

Schuberg’s Bar

109 N Michigan Ave
Big Rapids, 49307
Reviews:
I love Schuberg's if only because it's such a rustic, traditionally American establishment in the heart of Big Rapids. It was one of my favourite after work spots, with decently priced beers and a cozy atmosphere. But let's start with the negatives: There are a few members of the waitstaff that have a bit of an attitude problem - just rude and not attentive in the least right up until the check arrives, when they try to make nice. Fortunately this doesn't apply to everyone. The bar is pretty standard - nothing too fancy so don't expect to be able to order crazy cocktails (as I attempted). Things can get pretty crowded, especially on the weekends, so you may have to cram in at the bar to eat instead of getting a table or booth. As for the food, there are a few items on the menu that I would avoid. The coconut shrimp tend to be over-breaded and way to crispy. Same with the fried grouper plate - the menu says "lightly breaded" but that is a massive understatement. I also think it's really strange that you have to pay so much extra to get pub fries with your meal instead of chips, though I must admit they have some truly amazing pub fries so I upgraded every time. Now for the pros, my favourite part of any review! Like I said, the atmosphere is really cozy and I love that so many locals frequent the place. I've never had an issue with rowdy college kids, which is really a plus in a college town like Big Rapids. I also love the live jazz they have on weekends - none of the acts are super-pro but they're still very good and will have a drink with you between sets. Their spinach-artichoke dip is also heavenly. The portions are huge and the way they fry the pita bread gives it that extra little "oomph" that sends it on its way to being a truly memorable dish. Often times my husband and I would stop there just to get two orders of the dip! They also have amazing burgers (my personal choice would be the mushroom swiss). The Egg-cellent Schu is also great with the fried egg on top. Just be sure everything you order is on there - there was one mishap where we ordered the avocado club and there was no avocado on it... Luckily it was quickly corrected with a huge helping of freshly sliced 'cado from the kitchen! All in all, I love the hometown feel of Schuberg's and the quality of food is overall great. OH - and the lobster bisque (offered every Tuesday) is INSANE. But call ahead if you want to go just for the bisque; it tends to run out by 7. Once you've tasted it, you'll know why!
Best burgers around! Love coming here for a quick lunch, and even the soups are delicious!!!
Visiting my home state for work and to see family. Caught one tiny walleye last weekend - too small to keep. Walleye on the menu!Nice draft beer selection. Food good, tad salty for my taste, but tasty. Nice asparagus - cooked on grill/Smokey flavor. Great service.

Nawal Mediterranean Eatery

Reviews:
Nawal's is a hidden gem in Michigan! You must stop here for fresh, amazing food served with love by Nawal and her family. We enjoyed the gyro, kofta, potato salad and Turkish coffee. Everything tasted wonderful. And to top it off there is a beautiful selection of cupcakes, bread pudding, baklava and cookies. We even took some hummus and tabbouleh salad to go for our camping trip. And yes, the cupcakes are too die for!
Best food in Big Rapids! Great prices and Nawal is a wonderful chef and provides great services. Nawal even gives Ferris Students a college discount. Great local business to eat at.
I love this place! I was introduced to this place at work and have only got carry out. But, they are always very friendly and accommodating. I typically get a gyro and rice which has the perfect amount of meat and it is cooked well. It doesn't taste like fair food, but a really gyro. Her lemon chicken soup is one of the best soups I have ever had. I also have had their cupcakes. They are pricey, but they are worth it. Most of them are filled and the cake is super moist. I would love to actually sit down here and will one day.

My wife and I visited for the first time and we both had burgers which were very good though the patties did not appear to be hand made. Service was good and the waitress spent some time telling us about the place since it was our first visit. The fries were excellent. We where there on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded but as we were finishing up it seemed the Friday evening crowd was starting to arrive. They have live music Sat nights.
It's either hit or miss here. Most of the time the food is really good. they have a lot of interesting selections that are very good. The service is usually pretty bad, no matter if you are the only people in there or if there is a small or big crowd. It's definitely worth a try, the food is good!
Nice place on the inside. Food is good too.

Best food in Big Rapids.
Such a good spot for a healthy, foodie lunch. We were driving south on the highway and found this place via Yelp. It was great. Healthy and simple kids menu also. We did their soup of the day, humus and a couple salads. The blueberry blue cheese salad was excellent.
Went on a Sat, lunch time. 4 stars only because we waited about 15 minutes to order as they were having trouble with the beer tap system. Hubby ordered beer and instead of taking our order then dealing with the tap system, the waiter dealt with the beer issue first. Besides us, there were only 2 other customers in the entire restaurant so they weren't very busy at all. Food was great at least. Had the scallops, Thai curry, Creole jambalaya & goat French toast-all highly recommended.

Jimmy John’s

21445 Perry Ave
Big Rapids, 49307
Reviews:
What a great sandwich shop! For a chain sandwich place, Jimmy John's does a great job with hospitality and quality. This location was no different. We were greeted warmly when we walked in and thanked as we left. Everyone liked their cold subs on fresh french bread. I had the Italian Night Club and my wife had the smaller version of that, the Vito. The cappicola and salami were clearly of high quality and from what we could see through the open kitchen, so were the condiments (Hellman's, Heinz, and other major brands). The subs were about five bucks each and with a drink and chips (or a giant pickle) it came to about seven fifty a person. The subs are put together super-fast, too, so if you're in a hurry, this is your place. And if you're not in a hurry, they do have a surprising amount of seating, seven or eight 4-top tables (from the outside we wondered if they had any inside seating). The food quality is a step up from any other chain sub place and the friendliness is in a whole different league.
