I had my dinner there on St. Patricks Day and found the Fish & Chips to be very good and complemented my tasty Guinness. They served up a hearty portion of cod for like $9. Wait, it should be good, it's an English bar! My only gripe was that the bartender did serve my Guinness in a coffee mug, FOUL!!!! but it was on a holiday and the ladies working were in the weeds. Huge craft and specialty beer selection. Nice atmosphere, live music with a large menu to choose from.

Went here with a group of relatives for the holidays last week, unfortunately this wasn't the only instance that this establishment has left a bad taste in my mouth. It's sad I had real hope for them when they first opened and was excited for them. But from my experience last week, I would not be surprised if they get audited or contacted from the BBB this year. 1.) We were charged for things we did NOT order. 2.) We asked nicely for a detailed receipt (because we wanted to make sure we weren't wrong) and was refused a detailed receipt in a very unprofessional manner. 3.) One staff member DEMANDED that one of my family members "leave a tip!", despite the fact that he never ordered anything that night. 4.) My relative who paid the tab, put no tip on the receipt due to the unprofessionalism of the staff but found out on a statement the next day THEY WROTE THEIR OWN TIP on his credit card receipt, which that's not right at all. Some might consider this fraud. We're a very honest and forgiving family and normally wouldn't "tsk tsk" a local business, but something had to be said for a change to happen here. Other than that they have good beer but dine at your own risk! I most likely will not let them take my money anytime soon.

Stopped in here a couple times during the Alpena Blues Festival; several New Holland brews on tap following a recent tap takeover. Bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly. Nice atmosphere, watched some World Cup action and listened to some British Invasion music.

I went up to Alpena last weekend to visit my friend's sister's new Pub and I was not disappointed. The Black Sheep is a traditional English Pub with wood booths and a beautiful bar. They serve lunch and appetizers at night, but are mostly a bar and often have live music. We had lunch and it was fantastic! The cheddar, potato soup rocked, and so did the fish and chips! Lastly we had the deep fried green beans - so good ;) However, the greatest thing is their bar selection. I discovered 2 new Hard Ciders here: Crispin and Original Sin. The Crispin will soon be on tap, but the bottles were delish! A wonderful addition to Alpena!

Awesome fried fish! You have to try the fish dinner. It's hand breaded in their own mixture, and I was truly loving every bite. Not greasy, crispy, and awesome. Also, the sides and cole slaw were great. I took one star off for not offering dinner (I believe they only serve food for lunch, just drinks after that), but hopefully that will change once the food really catches on.

Not a restaurant. It's a pub. Great beer and hard cider. The only food is fried appetizers.

Food shuts up after lunch and just bar & soup, which was not anything special. Atmosphere is best part - very English Pub.

A true gem in Alena? Heck yeah! Awesome atmosphere! I've been to some of the best pubs in the country and this place rivals any bar. The staff is very friendly and they take pride in beer and wine. You will find local craft beer on tap from IPAs to a vanilla coffee porter. Also they have great appetizers and live entertainment.

Made the mistake of stopping here over lunchtime before the shipwreck cruise. We arrived in town at 11:30 with plans to leave at 12:45 to make it to the cruise in time. As we entered the building, the waitress yelled at us that the place was closed until noon - of course, that does not explain the three men drinking outside the building when we first there. Apparently those were "special" patrons who don't have to worry about such things such as hours of operation. We returned back at noon and immediately placed our order - I didn't even look at the menu since the fish and chips were highly recommended. It took a full 45 MINUTES for our order of fish and chips to arrive - when the whole place only had 6 people in there ahead of us. The waitress was surly at best; we were only offered one glass of water the whole time we waited. After 35 minutes I finally asked for our food to go, and the waitress bitched that it wasn't her fault as there was new staff in the kitchen. I don't care - 45 minutes for some fried fish and french fries does not take that long to prepare, period. As we left the ever so happy (sarcasm) waitress yelled "have a nice day!" as we left the building. We had to leave the food in the car since we were late getting to the location to board the ship, so I can't comment about the food - it had been sitting for 3 hours at that point and was nasty so I threw it away. I will never step foot in this place again, and recommend everyone avoid this establishment as well.
