Good food, good service, prices are fair but not great.

We had a group of 7 and were seated right away. The decor is fun, and I loved the osprey cam! Cool lobster trap rocking chairs, too. Anyhow, beyond the decor the food was phenomenal! Everyone was raving about their meals. I am an extremely picky eater, and I got the seafood pizza on a whim. Not only was the seafood part delicious, the pizza dough was some of the best I've ever tasted! I hoped the seafood would be good, but had no expectations for the crust and I was wowed. My fiancé's lobster mac and cheese was great too! Even my cousin raved about the cheeseburger, and there's generally nothing exciting about cheeseburgers. Beyond that, the prices were great. If we are ever up in Maine again, we will definitely stop by.

I got the lobster and clams and I was very disappointed. Not what I expected after all these great reviews. For the first 5 minutes our server was great... Then things went downhill. She gave us more time to look at the menu which ended up being 10-15 minutes before she returned. Then I asked for a coke and a water when she took our order and she brought the salads and appetizers out before I even got the drinks. She forgot my mother-in-law's salad dressing and didn't return to the table until everyone was done eating so she didn't even get to eat her salad until everyone else was done and just waiting for the bill. It wasn't busy at all and it seemed like the other waitresses were on point so I don't know what happened to us... Maybe it was an off day. We learned the specials from listening to the waitress at the table behind us. The souvenir area is neat, however I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone passing through.

Ok meal. Everything is fried and I had a hard time finding a light option that wasn't salad. The food was good but I wish there was a grilled fish sandwich option. Fried clams were tasty but we totally got overcharged on them. Nice views, tons of parking, friendly staff. Wouldn't be racing to return but the experience was ok.

If you are driving up to Coastal Maine this is a must stop on the way. Get that lobster appetite going and get a lobster roll an oyster sandwich and some beer. Outdoor deck, water view and kitschy décor inside. Don't park under the Osprey nest unless you want a white spattered car.

Yes, this place screams "tourist trap" all over it. But that's OK. The food is very good. We pulled off the road on impulse and had a terrific lunch. I had clam chowder, and it was perfect. I like my chowder with a creamy, buttery broth chock full of potatoes, onion and, of course, clams. Lots of clams. This chowder was among the best I have had. My husband had the fried haddock sandwich and cleaned his plate. We were both very happy. We chose to share a blueberry cobbler. It tasted great but was little on the soupy side. I would have liked a better balance between crust and filling. All in all we enjoyed our lunch and highly recommend this "tourist trap."

Excellent restaurant-looks like tourist trap off route 1 in Wiscasett but isn't. Lobster roll is $21 but worth it-whole lobster. Some items seen a bit pricey but generally moderately priced.

Very touristy..nesting bird out front is neat, however the restaurant leaves something to be desired. There was something floating in my drink and the fish chowder wasn't very tasty and there were bones in the soup. The decor needs to be updated especially the odd area for the children!

Baked stuffed salmon was prefect for what I was in the mood! Overall, don't come if you're in a rush... come to enjoy the food with a view.

I love the food here I can not find a place in Massachusetts that does the same job as The Taste of Maine for shrimp scampi, so whenever I am in Maine and by them I always stop in. The freshest seafood love it.

The best dinner I ate. Came from NY and well come again. The lobster and 10 oz steak was delicious your not going to taste that from NY.. The prices are good and affordable unlike some places. And the waiter Jamie was very nice and checked on us to make sure everything was alright. Thanks Jamie see you next time....

This place is restaurant, bar and bit of a tourist trap. The reputation for the food and ambiance is well deserved. Food is typical for the area, they are willing to make adjustments to the menu and staff do a competent job. The view of the water is lovely and they have a birds next on a pole in the parking lot. There is a camera relaying images from a birds nest to the lobby. At the other end of the lobby is an old ice box with glassware in it. The glassware is glowing and a small sign explains it be because of the uranium in it! The experience is... different! If you are up for some standard fare, scenic vista and a few thrills, definitely include this place on your list to check out.

Stopped by for lunch while out exploring this area of Maine. Sat out on the deck and had a beautiful and peaceful view of the water. The fish chowder and the shrimp cocktail appetizers were great. The chowder was creamy, flavorful and full of fish. The shrimp were clearly very fresh and were quite flavorful. For meals, we had a clam strip roll and fried scallop plate. We're from New England and have had some great seafood-- and this seafood was some of the best. For dessert, a shared homemade bread pudding was just the thing to end our meal. If you're in the area, you can't go wrong at The Taste of Maine!

Good food fast friendly service but a bit pricey. .The food is fresh and very tasty, the service is always fast and very friendly. The interior is decorated with some interesting trinkets but the best is a window seat in the back overlooking he water.

Taste of Maine was a family staple restaurant over 20 years ago when we would take our annual road trips up the coast. We remember the price of 3 lobsters for $19.99 back in the day. And now over 20 years later, the prices have doubled to 3 lobsters for $39.99. Still not a bad price for Maine steamed lobsters for tourists. The lobster was freshly steamed and you can even go for the lazy version where you do not need to get your hands dirty. The stuffed mushrooms was also a very good dish that we had for appetizers as there was plenty of seafood in it and chopped mushrooms. I do miss the giant blow up crab they use to have that sits on top of the building. Also, I vaguely remember the lobster gift shop of any lobster memorabilia you can imagine. Though it sounds like the reviews keep saying that it is a tourist trap... It's a tourist trap that brings back good family memories on summer vacations. It's also a plus that the view overlooks a bay where there are many bird sightings. I'll come back as long as it's still standing and whenever we're in Maine.

Tourist trap yes...but it was pouring with rain and we had hungry people in the car --despite the other reviews we found the food was really good when we visited-kids started with vanilla milkshakes which were thick and creamy-for entrees we had a lobster club sandwich which was fresh and delish paired with a local beer-I had the steak sandwich which was tender and seasoned perfectly paired with sweet potato fries-kids had cheeseburgers which by all accounts were good!-paired with local brewed root beer -we both had a nicely chilled glass a wine to finish our meal-prices were average for Rte ! unless you compare to eating from a "hole in the wall" on RTE 1 .Our server was friendly and answered all our questions-and service was perfect..I would eat here again.

The best thing about the Taste of Maine is the view from the deck. The decor is eclectic kitsch with objects from everywhere tacked to the walls or on shelves. The food is mediocre. We split satisfactory sandwich And as a treat ordered scallops with a surround of bacon. It was less than satisfactory and still swimming in the bacon grease. We can't give the Taste of Maine anything more than two stars. Maybe you should just enjoy the view from the deck with a drink.

Hmmmm... Looks likes some of these reviews are dated, because when I stopped in there a couple of days ago it was amazing. Very very close to perfet. The reason I am writing this is to clear the air about a few things: 1. I read the term "tourist" trap many times in other reviews and I want to say that in my 32+ years of making my way up R1 from Cambridge to Bar Harbor I have went into a few "tourist traps", this isn't one of them, and to that fact, this restruant is what tourist traps are based off of. Fun, family, collectable, novilty, driven wall hangings that really make this place come alive. 2. The view, which people seem to brush over is breath taking if you can get out on to the deck, maybe not when it's wicked hot or busy, but who in their right mind's goes to lunch during that time? 3. They have three or four stand out menu items. a. The 2 foot lobster roll - BOOM! (world's largest) b. The haddock newburg - With a cream sauce, stuffed with stuffing and a shrip topping? Yes, yes, yes and yes c. The seafood fry-up - And it's a challenge, you eat all of the full bellied, fresh fish, starchy goodness - you get your PICTURE ON THE WALL! d. The lobster any way you like it - This is great, cause they play all your cards for you, you like the tactile idea of dismantaling a lobster like you and you're old man use to do? Or so you want to have a professional take all the pieces out for you? Service was good, the price wasn't horrid and there is a selection of Maine mirco-brew which I didn't par-take in. In review: Not! A tourist trap, good food and a stunning view. Finally the bad, the chowder is a bit watery and not full of huge chunks of clams, there is better chowder along Rt1.

Outstanding view from the deck, but the food was only ok, and service was not great. They market themselves as having the world's largest lobster roll, but apparently you have to order it by name. My husband has a large appetite and ordered "the lobster roll" and got something the size of a hot dog. (For $20!) No real flavor to any of the food. Service was slow and not very attentive. We were visiting Maine from out of state and were honestly hoping for "A Taste of Maine" but were disappointed when we spent our $$ here.

I loved my lobster roll and sweet potato fries and my wife loved her nachos. Interestingly the nachos were not corn tortilla chips, but rather a light fluffy pastry baked in the shape and size of tortilla chips. It was wonderfully tasteful.

Looking fort my first bowl of seafood chowder on my drive up the coast . Read all the descriptions and reviews as we passed through Bath on US1. Locked on to taste of Maine, about a mile north across the bridge. Just a perfect lunch. Quick, extremely courteous service, and splendid lobster chowder, loaded with chunks of meat, added a salad and tea and cost was under $40 with tip for two.

Food is OK, but this is a 100% bona fide tourist trap. Starting with the Osprey webcam to the claptrap gift shop to the ridiculous markup for lobster (note to visitors: Lobster is running about $5-7/lb at the retail markets. You can imagine how much less wholesale to a restaurant might be. Do the math).

I live in Bath and I love this restaurant. The seafood is excellent and local. This is family owned and they all work hard to bring their best. Enjoy

Fairly gross. Fairly amusing. Filling. Has a good view. My wife and I rolled into this joint after skipping over Red's Eats, due to its long line. We wanted one last Maine lobster meal to put a wrap on our honeymoon dining excesses. Taste of Maine stands on Route 1, not far from where it reconnects with 95. For a brief and wrong moment, it seemed our last hope. Briefly, Taste of Maine is the kind of restaurant Applebees and TGIF and Ruby Tuesday's and all of those sickening, corporate troughs imitate. It looks like it was decorated with a cat lady's garage sale, and the food's heavy, artificially homey, and overpriced. There's ten tons of crap crowded onto every level surface except the floor, and the floor gets more than its share of junk, too. We're talking pseudo-antiques, here: gas pumps from the sixties, liquor bottles from the seventies, toy trucks made out of metal. That sort of shit. They have a huge, red sculpture of a lobster on the front lawn Taste of Maine's placemats incude instructions on how to eat a whole lobster and a bunch of trivia questions about the restaurant. That says a lot, doesn't it? Really, the idea behind this breed of restaurant is to ape a country kitchen (making TGIF's et al. an imitation of an imitation). In the mind of this kindof restaurateur, this means clutter and heavy food. We had crab dip, a caesar salad, and macaroni & cheese with lobster. The caesar salad was made by and for people who hold anchovies in deep disgust--and who, possibly, regard all strong flavours with suspicion. The crab dip took a similarly principled stand against taste, but loaded up with extra-fatty dairy of a few kinds, which made it a tolerable goop, if not an entirely enjoyable one. The mac'n'cheese'n'lobster, which ToM advertised on its digital sign, just below its proud 'since 1978' declaration, was bizarre. Presumably because a strong cheddar would have overwhelmed the lobster, ToM uses big dollops of mascarpone for its mac'n'cheese cheese. This makes theconcoction quite sweet, a result that, no doubt, appeals to the immensely fat old white men who form the mainstay of the dining room in the middle of a Friday afternoon. We choked the stuff down and realised about halfway through that the breadcrumbs tasted, not only of Ritz crackers, but of those greasy, garlic'n'herb townhouse crackers various marks make. That's a touch of class for Mainers! A single mac'n'cheese entree fed us both and really did satisfy that craving for one more lobster meal (it did have a few decent-sized chunks of lobster), but, in the end, it was twenty-two bucks or something, which is a lot for such willfully homey fare. They did have good, but too sweet lemonade, and a pleasant young gay man served us, so they have thatgoing for them. In the end, yeah, it's a feedlot, not just for tourists, but for big fat locals, too. Food is just something to stuff people with at Taste of Maine, with a modicum attention paid to lubricating the act of stuffing with salt and grease

Total tourist trap, cheesy gift shop, osprey cams to watch birds in their nests. Food was terrible, fish was dry and rubbery. Cocktail was good, heavy on the alcohol though. We were seated at a little table in the corner overlooking the water, would have been a good view in the daytime.

My husband and I has lunch at Taste of Maine. The view is beautiful. The service was good as was the food. I has a lobster salad and while I'm not a fan of iceberg lettuce you really don't need the distraction with anything else for the lobster. My husband had the special 1/2 lobster 1/2 crab roll which was also quite good. House root beer was a nice local flavor to try. I would agree with another reviewer on the chowder. We had clam and it was good but watery. Overall a great spontaneous stop!

Loved this place. The weather last Saturday was a perfect autumn day to drive leisurely down the coast to Boston from Maine. I stopped here for lunch and the staff was so nice, views beautiful. I had the lobster mac & cheese and OMG!! So good. I ate half of it but it was the dinner portion. If you go for lunch there is a lunch and a dinner portion. My server did not point that out which was not cool but it was very good. There are chunks of lobster but not as much as I thought would be for $25. It was a lazy day so no worries. When needing to go up that way again for business I will defiantly stop here again.

This restaurant is exactly what it purports to be; a fun spot with a great view. The food was very good - fresh and well prepared. The staff the night I went were jammed because a power outage in Bath across the river. They handled it calmly and professionally. Shannon in the bar was a delight; very attentive, great service and she makes a generous rusty nail. If you want good food, in a place that says Maine all over, is family friendly with a staff that is pleasant and attentive - this is the place for you.
