Had waffle cone with Vanilla & "pistachio", my boyfriend had mint chocolate chip. Cheap colored ice-cream, the pistachio made my mouth zing with fake flavors it was horrible. Don't waste your time or money. (Gave an extra star because it's cheap but I would rather pay a little extra for better quality ice-cream)

Such a classic place that never seems to change! Ice cream is always good :) I had mint chocolate chip which is one of my favorites and there was hardly any wait. You also definitely get enough ice cream for your money. Highly recommend it!

When we're in the area, Dorman's is on our MUST STOP list. Over the years we've tried almost all of the flavors. Last night, though we got a quart of Buttercrunch to go. WOW, JUST WOW! Super creamy, with toffee chips and bits of almond. Would be great with hot fudge!

Really good ice cream at a really good price! My only complaint is that they don't have Moose Tracks. I definitely wasn't disappointed with the chocolate chip cone that I ordered though!

When in Maine go to a Gifford's ice cream stand. Gifford's is real quality ice cream with pleasant polite service. Dorman's is a tourist trap with impatient rude sales people. Most locals skip it and go up the block to Dairy Queen.

Always crowded as there are not many choices for "homemade" ice cream in the area. The flavors are good and I like the nice big chocolate chips, but no nuts in "pistachio" ice cream? Also the ice cream is very light and fluffy, almost like it's hard-frozen soft serve ice milk. For truly great ice cream you'll have to drive 30 minutes to John's in Liberty maine next to the fabulous Lori's Diner.

A great old fashioned, family run roadside, homemade ice cream place. Very good! One of the very few places that dip hard-scoup ice cream, try raspberry chip w/ dark chocolate dip or ginger w/ chocolate dip or... Just a tip: if you get the dipped ice cream (sugar cone a must) and it is hot weather, move fast on your prize, Bud! Located right on the north bound side of Route 1 in Thomaston before the Rockland line. Closed on Sundays

Dorman's has the best home-made ice cream around the area in a traditional roadside shack. The ginger ice cream is so good! Try walking over to the field behind the hotel across the street to eat your ice cream and avoid going to Dorman's after dark because it does get buggy.

We've been passing this little mom & pop place all week (thanks to being in town for the annual Lobster Festival), and there's always been a lineup at the window (walk-up only, no inside seating). We finally took the plunge, and had two peanut butter milkshakes. Right up there with the best we've ever had, and the prices were very reasonable, since the portions were larger than normal. We're leaving in the morning, but if we ever return to the Rockland area, we'd return for more ice cream treats from Dorman's.

Loved taking my son to get ice cream here ( he is now 25) , since I used to go as a child a few decades ago. I don't live in Maine now, live in VA, but every time we go to Maine, we always stop at Dormans. The pistachio is amazing and the black raspberry is awesome too. You gotta try it.

Really good ice cream, but they need to do something about the bug situation while waiting in line! I got eaten alive out there (and I was only there for about 5 minutes!) I go back because it is a place my fiance grew up going to as a kid and he loves it :)

Best ice cream in the area. Been going here since I was kid.

Probably the best hard chocolate ice cream that I've had in America.

Pros: Ice cream, ice cream, ice cream! Cons: Prepare for a long line, no matter what. Never a Maine vacation goes by without us stopping here; it has become as synonymous as Reny's and Moody's Diner. Recommendations include: Grapenut, Raspberry Chip and Pistachio ice cream. Dipped ice cream is absolutely a must. Be prepared to wait in line, though. It closes at 9 pm, and it's not open on Sunday.

Not much to look at, but great ice cream! Highly recommend the Butter Crunch and Raspberry. Oreo and Grapenut flavors could used more mix ins. Sizes are large-the junior size is plenty!!!

I thought the location on a busy street provided lousy atmosphere, but the ice cream (peppermint stick) was delicious.

Down East Sundae Shake: I had three in seven days and still yearn for more. I have been eating Dorman's for four years now (while visiting the Mr.'s family in the summer), and this was the year I fell in love with it. It had to do with the Down East Sundae Shake. This is a "small thick shake with a junior sundae on top", which translated means "an enormous amount of delicious ice cream topped with sundae toppings that you need a straw and a spoon to eat". Dorman's is cheap for the quantity given, and you can taste that it's homemade. I only get the Grapenut, which I highly recommend with hot fudge. It's better than Momofuku cereal milk soft serve. I personally prefer Dorman's shakes to scoops, but am not sure why. As my husband says, "It isn't summer until you've been to Dorman's."

Awesome road side stand selling ice cream, soft serve, shakes and sundaes. I got a scoop of the coconut chip in a cup. This was way more than a scoop - probably closer to two. Pieces of coconuts and huge chunks of chocolate made the flavor pop. Loved it. My fiance's "small" mocha milkshake was ginormous and absolutely delicious. A must do in the area!

This place is good. My family and I would go here after a dinner at Dave's, a restaurant that once sat across the street from Dorman's (now a hotel). Whatever you want, you'll like it. I've been coming here for as long as I remember, and they have never let me down. There might be some people who wonder why this place gets 5 stars and other places that are really good get 4. Well, I rate places on their specialty, and Dorman's is 100% on top of theirs. (RANT:There might be some places that I've been to once that deserve 5 stars, but I need to be consistently provided with top quality before they get 5 stars, thus future visits are a must). Anyways, back to what I was writing...The ice cream is not overly rich, or boring....it's perfect. I would choose this place over any other ice cream joint, when looking for one.

Dorman's is a summer tradition. I have been coming here for ice cream for decades. Always delicious and the assortment of flavored has something to offer for everyone. My favorite flavor is the Grapenut Ice Cream followed by the Coconut Chip Ice Cream. It is always a delight to go to Dorman's but don't think about it on Sunday - they are closed.

I'm from Chicago, and we are pretty much deprived of the whole ice cream shack experience. Fortunately I have family in Maine, and whenever I visit I make sure to pay at least one visit to Dorman's. Top quality homemade ice cream, not too expensive, a huge variety of toppings. The butter crunch is to die for and they are overly generous with the sprinkles (or "jimmies", in Maine)...Dorman's really is a dream! Cons: long lines, they close early - 9 pm, and it is extremely buggy, so it's best to eat in your car!

We were told this was the best ice cream anywhere. Not even close. We both felt it was mediocre at best. If you're ever in Bucks County, Pa. seek out OWOWCOW for the best ice cream.

YES! Dorman's! I've only had the soft-served but it is FANTASTIC and they always give you so much. Smalls are like larges! The prices are amazing too. I love going here after I watch a movie at the Flagship Cinema across the street.

Fatty, creamy goodness. As a native New Englander, I grew up in Land of Super-Premium-Home-Made ice cream. Dorman's lives up to my expectations--especially the raspberry chip. Dorman's is in a tiny little shack on the side of Route 1. I've only been a few times, but there is always a line. They clearly pump their profits back into the ice cream, and not the building. Every New Englander knows ice cream tastes better when purchased out the window of a road-side shack. When visiting the in-laws in Maine, Dorman's is definitely a required stop, so long as the weather is above 40 degrees...
