Sneaky....... I asked myself, why haven't I got my free drink yet? Ah yes- it takes a dozen purchases vs you're common ten. Baked goods are very good. Sandwiches are fresh yet standard. Nice place. Pleasant staff, good location and coffee shop comparable to Starbucks ( where freebies come sooner) !

Got the chai tea hot, didn't have much flavor. Kinda watery. My sister got the Carmel iced latte, wasn't bad but wasn't excellent. Got the cran-walnut muffin and it was very good. Not a sugar coated muffin top but good if you're trying to be healthy. I am definitely going to try again.

I hate to give the two-er. But I have to, my drive through experience was terrrrrible. Slow service, awful exit and entry. The coffee was so-so (my fault for ordering something I didn't really enjoy). There was only one other car in the line of the drive thru and I probably sat there for 20 minutes total (waiting for the other person in line to be served then my slow service.) It was about 7:30am but it didn't seem packed inside. On the plus side, I've had a good tuna sandwich from there. Inside service might be better... but I won't do drive through again.

When you enter a coffee shop and a late 70's "Althea" fills the air, you know you're in the right place. Great coffee, excellent choices for breakfast, baked goods, soups, sandwiches and salads. The staff is friendly and efficient. While I don't use the drive-thru, it's not like a DD where the staff pushes a button and poof, a drink dispenses into a cup. These are individually made specialty coffees, but they're worth the wait...like most cafes. Great place to meet friends or schedule a business meeting. ...asked me for a dime, a dime for a cup of coffee. I got no dime, but I got some time to hear his story.

Awesome place. Friendly, outgoing staff and great drinks & snacks. Felt great supporting locally-owned business. Will be one our haunts once we move Down East next year.

When my husband and I were looking for a home in Maine, we stopped by and found the solace we were needing after house hunting all day. Our drinks were great but the atmosphere was amazing!

The perfect Maine-esque coffee shop! Enjoyed a delicious latte on the front patio. Next time I pass through, I will definitely be there!

Service and atmosphere is great, I can't say the same for the coffee. The cappuccino I had was watery and overly bitter.

Soup is only seasonally available :( Great otherwise (I'm a soup fiend!) Good meeting spot. Outdoor area which is dog friendly (or at least we weren't kicked out!) Gluten-free wrap option. Nice spacious place!

A little unsanitary. I've been wanting to try this little coffee shop ever since I moved to Scarborough. The atmosphere inside is very pleasant and welcoming. Unfortunately, I have experience in food service. I ordered a sandwich and noticed the girl was not wearing gloves as she prepared my food. I did not see her wash her hands either. I was disgusted but ate my food anyway in order to not be rude. Although this coffee shop had potential, I cannot eat at a place that does not follow hand washing and glove use.

Walked in, and you could tell the place needs a maid to come in and whip this place into shape. Towels stuck/broken in bathroom; not much soap, either. That's just a poor management issue. Surfaces, counter, and table tops need to be fully wiped down way more often. Floor was dirty. I had to wipe my own table before sitting; that's just a tad gross. Overall, this place needs a good vacuum and cleaning. As for the coffee, it was too bitter and lacked that normal coffee "richness." Wasn't impressed - Starbucks is much tastier, and that's sad. As for wifi, they have it, but I couldn't get into it. I asked twice for the password - which didn't work no matter how I typed it in. Frustrating. I finally had to use my own Verizon card to get online. Bottom line - I won't be back. Sorry.

You know a place is good when the parking lot and tables fill while you sip your morning tea. A friend suggested a coffee date here, and we arrived at 9. By the time we left over an hour later, there wasn't an open seat in the house! I can't comment too much on the food (I didn't eat anything) or the coffee, but I can vouch for the quick-albeit-impersonal service, the clean dining room, and the comfortable seating arrangement. I'd return with a friend (and maybe sample a croissant), but I probably wouldn't come back solo just for my morning kick.

I moved here in November 2013 and thought this place was great until I noticed poor food handling. I came in for my usual and the woman thought it was okay to touch her hair and face while making sandwiches. I won't go back there again because poor food handling can cause food poisoning and other health issues. It's common sense to wear gloves when preparing food.

Solid breakfast spot and a nice change from the usual chains like Dunkin and Starbucks. Friendly employees and yummy iced coffee; they even have the simple syrup to add to iced coffee instead of having to use sugar that just won't dissolve. Breakfast sandwiches were crowd pleasers - I like that they have asiago bagels as one of the options! You can tell the difference between the freshness of the ingredients here on their sandwiches vs the more mass produced ones at a place like Dunkin. About $11-$13 for 2 iced coffees and 2 breakfast sandwiches/muffins. Indoor seating is a bit sparse but there is a nice outdoor patio if the weather cooperates, which it did on both our visits. We came here twice in our 4/5 day visit to the area so hopefully that tells you something!

We've been to this place so many times!!! We love it here! We bring anyone that comes to visit us here and they instantly fall in love with their sandwiches! It's just such a "homey" little spot! It's definitely become one of our favorite lunch places to go. We've even just come here to grab sandwiches for our cooler for the beach! People here are sooo nice!!

1st time here. Nice local coffee shop. Was pleasantly surprised to see they offer salads, sandwiches & breakfast items. Great atmosphere. Will be back since I live locally.

Great drinks...the sandwiches are something unique and super yummy! I just wish they had longer hours.

Excellent spot to grab a drink and get things done or just chat. There are good seating areas: tables, bar, couches and it is a nice open space with plenty of natural light. When I have eaten lunch there the food is typically good but the portions are smaller and it is pricey for what you get.

Whenever I make a trip up to Maine to visit my parents, a trip to Scarborough Grounds is a requirement. I pretty much only order giant iced coffees here with a bit of skim milk, so I know it's not necessarily a difficult order but when the DD down the street routinely messes it up (and has lower quality coffee anyway) it's easy to see why I'd rather support this local business when given the choice. Another plus is the lack of judgement when I walk in the front door after spending a sweaty mid-summer hour running around Back Cove - a sorry sight, no doubt!

First time there today. Friendly staff, comfy atmosphere, great coffee and really tasty breakfast sandwiches.

Hands down, the BEST espresso in Portland. One of the best I've had in the U. S. in fact. Creamy, foamy, and not over roasted Starbucks crap. Try the Triple Berry muffin. They don't make them there, but, they bake them there. Outstanding environment. Wish it was in the city, but, plenty of interesting people to chat with none the less.

This is an excellent place to sit and read and enjoy a great cup of coffee. The food is really good and the service is also very good. They have a decent selection of pastries and can make really good sandwiches. I like this place a lot!

This is a Starbuck-y coffee shop offering a full range of espresso drinks, plus pastries and other goodies. On a rather grim mission to southern Maine, I wished for good coffee, and, lo, next door was Scarborough Grounds. The staff is friendly, the lounge area has lots of overstuffed chairs and quiet nooks, and the coffee is quite good. Some high school students put their heads together to solve tricky math problems at one table; other customers clacked away at their laptops. Cold beverages were available from a cold case, including organic milk. Soy milk is available for espresso drinks. The baked goods were just ok -- certainly no worse than Starbucks, but that's not saying much. Minus one star for overflowing trash cans and general untidiness that could have been remedied in two minutes, had the baristas been inspired to do so. Bonus: there's a disused baseball field behind the store at the bottom of the hill which makes a great place for kids to run off their orneryness and to just chill with a cup of coffee and enjoy nature.
