I noticed the recent reviews are hit and miss. The food was very good, but they do need to work on their staff (as in, get some). The owner was the only server last night. Granted, the Old Port was a ghost town, but he was running around like a madman. Fittingly, he had sneakers on.

Went there for New Year's Eve & had the scallop risotto, French opinion soup, ham & Swiss crepe & chocolate ganache crepe. All were DE-Lish! I esp liked the hint of lemon in the scallop risotto & the chocolate ganache crepe was simply Devine! We also had multiple cocktails and tried everything from house specialty drinks to wine pairings w our food order. We had a rather large crowd and the service was good as well. Would recommend and there menu offers something for everyone.

We had a great time Saturday. 10 very loud people, a very understanding staff. We were so busy talking, the waiter had to come back 3 times before someone suggested apps, 2 of everything on the menu YUMMY After a decent amount of time, cause we had to try everything, dinner was perfect. Even the fussy one liked his dinner. :) The desserts were very tasty. This is a great place for event dinners. Make sure you make reservations Will go here again, with a smaller crowd of friends. We really liked this place.

There was nothing "merry" about the Merry Table on our attempted visit recently. I say attempted because we were actually never served. Nor even acknowledged by the one waitress that was working. She refused to make eye contact with us so I suggested to my wife that we should just grab a table and wait. And wait. And wait. She walked past us without even a glance in our direction. Finally, we got up and went to another local restaurant where we were treated like valued patrons. We will not return.

Hidden little restaurant in Portland but really great crepes! I had the lobster bisque and the salmon crepe, both were delicious! It sort of tasted like a creamier version of lox & cream cheese on a bagel. The owner was very nice and accommodating despite it being busy when we came by. We sat outside and got to enjoy some live music from the neighboring restaurant. It was a nice blend of local flavors with European twist.

Every time we visit The Merry Table there's a note of serendipity. The owner takes justified pride in his establishment and it shows in the little touches and quirks that make it unique. On Saturday I had the charcuterie plate and my wife had the Maine Seafood Crepe (photos on Foodspotting). She finished with the Nutella dessert crepe. Everything was outstanding! Top quality and beautifully presented.

We went here because of the positive reviews here on Yelp! and it did not disappoint! The crepes were delicious and the lobster roll were surprisingly very good. I will definitely come back here when I'm in the area.

The crapes were sooo good as usual!! Chicken one and chocholate!! And we had the lobster bisque as usual.

I should probably start by saying that I have never really been a fan of crepes. My husband LOVES them so we decided to try it. We instantly loved the cafe feel of the place. It was small, but didn't feel too closed in. The service wasn't the best I've had, but still above adequate. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The food was also above average. The crepes seemed heavy and dry (I'm not sure if this is normal). They were still delicious. We decided to splurge on dessert crepes as well and they were wonderful!! My son had the chocolate which was unbelievable, but very rich. I tried the red wine soaked pear crepe and I must say it was one of the best dessert I have ever had in my life. My husband had the Citron and whereas it wasn't quite my favorite, he loved it. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. I would probably go back again sometime if I were in the area again.

Delicious! I had the Croque Monsier with egg. My husband had the Cuban Sandwich. We both started off with a cup of Lobster Bisque. Everything was not only plated beautifully, but it was delicious! I wish we had shared a sandwich so that we would've had room for dessert. We washed it all down with a cup of coffee, that they brewed fresh while we waited.

This French-themed restaurant is in an unfortunate location. When the munchies strike, I doubt the bar-crawl crowd craves crepes. Nor would I expect them to lust after such worn-out classics as cassoulet, or boeuf bourguignon. At the same time, the server last night was not doing the restaurant any favors. It's eerie enough walking into a totally empty restaurant at 8pm, but the snide comment we overheard after requesting just the dessert menu ("They're ONLY here for dessert...") did little to enhance the charm. And "charm" is clearly what this place strives for. The cliche decor was amusing at first, yet when the waitress persisted in acknowledging everything we said in French ("oui"..."ah merci"... "a tres bien"), the atmosphere became cloying. As for the crepe...I ordered the special "crepe eclair," which professed to be a crepe with chocolate ganache and custard. What arrived on the plate was a mediocre crepe with a parsimonious filling of generic chocolate syrup and runny whipped cream. The location and clientele this restaurant is aiming for can be most readily found in the French quarter of Disneyworld. Not recommended.

I can't believe the average rating is only 4 stars. We've been here numerous times. Every meal has been fantastic and the staff are very knowledgable and attentive. Waiter Coulta was the best. All three of us loved our meals. I highly recommend the salmon crêpe and absolutely treat yourself to the caramel salt crepe for dessert!

REALLY would like to be able to offer another star for this place, but as other Yelpers have noted, service is VERY slow. Food is solid, well-priced and attractively prepared. Nice wine list, with lots of good choices by the glass. However, one of the owners acts as the sole hostess/waitress and that can make for long waits, especially if you're without a beverage. She's affable and pleasant, but sometimes harried and overwhelmed, confusing orders and leaving diners unattended. I'd suggest a simple fix to this problem: make sure everyone has a drink first thing and provide a small complimentary starter, like a tureen of olives or Cornichons. (We saw this trend all over Quebec). A glass of wine and something to nosh on makes waiting for a meal a much more pleasant experience, and (believe me!) the food is definitely worth waiting for!

A cute little creperie with french oozing from the old decor. We had a nice lunch of the infamous Mexican crepe, and two delicious paninis. The price was right, the wait staff was super nice, and for all the grief this spot gets about the long waiting times between ordering and food delivery, it really wasn't bad. The outside was a bit cold to sit at but you can bide your time while waiting for the food with iPhone camera pictures. Lots to shoot, and the food was worth it.

It started raining in the early afternoon my first day in Portland and I just happened across this small restaurant right off the far busier main drag which was packed with passengers off a cruise ship. I can't think of a cozier place to dine on a cool rainy day. I had terrific French onion soup, a glass of good house red and a fabulous salted caramel crepe for dessert. Friendly service, excellent food......and in nice weather, tables outside to enjoy.

I've been here three times total, and it got worse with every visit. The first time was when my friend took me here for my birthday; it was quaint, my shrimp crepe was delicious, and the restaurant was about 3/4 full so it reassured us of our choice to eat there. I remembered having a good overall experience and we interacted with a nice French woman who, at the time, I assumed was the owner. The second visit it had been about 2 years since I was there last, it's in an odd location in Portland so I completely forgot it existed to be honest. The same friend and I decided to go there for lunch. This time around it was empty, we were greeted by this small French man (I assume another owner?) who seemed really scatterbrained. The menu was misspelled and had the wrong date, which led me to panic... were they so slow that they didn't proofread/update their menus?? This time around was OK. The food was not as good as I remember and we stayed the only two people in the entire restaurant. The third time was by far the worst. I decided to take my squeeze there because he wanted to try something new. I was trying to give the Merry Table the benefit of the doubt. When we walked up the cobble stone I could see two people at a table outside, I thought, PHEW, we're not the only ones again. Just kidding. It was the same small French man SMOKING A BUTT with a woman by his side. He seemed shocked when we approached him asking to be seated, like they hadn't seen a customer in days. The food took forever (how, why? it's just us two) and it was bland, my vegetarian crepe was watery while his cordon bleu crepe was dry. I had a wasp that would not leave my side the entire time I was eating, the owner or whomever he is, did not offer to move us even though I made it obvious how uncomfortable I was. The only reason this restaurant had any business that day was because we ate out front and gave passerby's false hope that it was a good place to dine. I will not be eating here again.

Quite disappointing last meal in Portland. I started with the lobster bisque. I swirled my spoon around to look for the little bits of lobster....nothing. It was pure liquid. It smelled of lobster but there was no lobster in the actual soup. And it barely had any taste. I ate it anyways because I was so hungry. Next I had the cordon bleu crepe. The ham tasted like ham from a deli package and the chicken was super dry and felt like it had come precooked as well. But the worst was the bleu cheese. You couldn't taste anything else. It took over the entire crepe. I ended up eating only about 1/3. And even when I mentioned this to the waitstaff nothing other than 'sorry' was said. Don't eat your last meal of your vacation here as it will literally leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Delicious crepes! Warm, friendly, cozy atmosphere -- you have the option to sit up front (where it seems to be more buzzing/loud, with occasional live music) or in the back where it's quieter and more moody. My friend and I shared a couple of savory crepes and finished by splitting a dessert crepe (with Nutella!). NOM.

The soup...I don't care what it is....is going to be the best soup you've had in a very long time. Also, I'm partial to the Mediterranean Vegetarian Tart. It's a dish you think about every day until you have it again. Love this place!

I have felt as though the past few times that I've tried to go here, that while the food is still scrumptious, the service and time it takes to actually get your food are consistently going south. There were three people in the kitchen and two on the floor during the most recent visit. Two tables outside and two inside besides our party of four (about 20 people total), Which should have been be pretty good odds for them to keep waters full, and checking in periodically to build the tab with drinks etc. sadly this was not the case. It took twenty minutes just to get a drink order in, and standing up at the table, because they seemed to be avoiding eye contact, to get a glass of water, (that we had asked for initially), let alone get it replenished. This is the third such experience in a short time span, which is for me, the finale to what had been many previously good experiences. Because again, though the food is consistent, the rest of the dining experience has been lacking. I don't feel as though I can offer less than three stars partially for the wonderful meals/timesI had here in the past and the (still) great food, but I've soured on the rest.

Horrible crepes, seemed manufactured off site, bland, brown. Waiter (older short Frenchman, owner?) totally rolled his eyes and gave us an attitude when we didn't order dessert. I'm shocked they're still open. Don't waste your money!

They served my family spoiled prosciutto. We could have been poisoned if we hadn't sent it back. The waitress argued that it was not but the chef conceded it was and sent back fresh one. We could have been poisoned. There was a 3 year-old and a 8 year-old at our table. The seafood paella they served me for 20 $ was the smallest I've ever seen. If I were you, I would avoid this place at all costs!

Loved this place. Atmosphere was cozy and we had two great seats at the bar. Came across the place for an afternoon late lunch and the crepes were pretty good and the soup was great! The owner is super friendly and we enjoyed the layout of the restaurant as we were able to watch the action in the kitchen. Would stop by again when passing thru portland for sure!

We have been regulars for the last 5 years, but the service and food has dropped significantly over the last 2 years. We tried again on New Years Eve 2015 and were over charged $30 on our credit card. We are done.

Always good here .Classic french crêpe. I feel home as I m french. Owner by Jean-Claude and Alex in kitchen both french. Good crepe of the day , also like basic dessert one "Suzette" even flambée (fired up) with Grand Marnier . Be there before 9pm max. Closed at 9.30pm.

I went to a creperie and ordered a ham and cheese sandwich. Most times, that would have been a regrettable decision however on this particular occasion it was not, given that it was the best ham and cheese sandwich I'd ever had. Spicy dijon mustard, good cheese...hell, i wish I had one now. This place is a wonderful little treat to find buried in the charming winter wasteland that was Portland in late January and everything else we sampled off the menu was as outstanding as my sandwich. Don't miss out on the chocolate crepe!

Okay, this is in a cool location and has a very European feel right down to the French waitress. They even have all French speaking nights where all customers and staff speak in French for the entire evening. The first course we had was warm brie crostini and we also tried the onion soup. Both of these items were warm, hearty and tasty . For our main course my wife had the lobster risotto and I had a crepe with Atlantic salmon and dill with asparagus. The lobster risotto was excellent and had great flvor. the salmon was cooked perfectly and the presentation was wonderful. I did find the crepe to be very bland and the dill sauce was flavorless. Finally we had a chocolate cake and creme brulee for dessert. the chocolate cake was a thin cake on the outside with molten lava chocolate inside. my wife loved it. the creme brulee was very good as well as you would expect in a French restaurant. My only complaint was the inattentivenss of the waitress. There were huge gaps of time between her visits and there was only one other party in the restaurant. At the end of our meal there was a good 15 minutes between when she took our last plates and we asked for the bill until we actually got it. I know some places think you want the "experience" of a night out and that Europeans take longer for meals. I, however hate to wait and I like prompt service. If I want to stay in your place longer, I will order something else.

The owner is actually French! She is extremely nice and greeted us with a happy "bonjour!" The crepes were amazingly delicious, I ordered chocolate ganache. And it came with homemade whipped cream! I don't think I've ever gotten that from a restaurant. And in true French fashion, we only got the check once we asked for it. I love that.

Had some crepes in the rain. Decent crepes, ssssllllllooooooowwww service, nice presentation. Had the jambon brie and the daily special Mexican crepe. The jambon brie was traditional and nice. The Mexican was stuffed full of lobster and shrimp and deliciousness. Decent lobster bisque, too - I think there was actually lobster meat in it! But...man oh man was that service excruciatingly slow.

This is a cozy location in Portland's Old Port. We made reservations and are glad we did as the place filled up quickly. We both started with the lobster bisque which we both loved. It was perfectly seasoned, creamy and warm. Lisa had the cassoulet which was delicious. She did wish that there was more sausage in it. I had the boeuf bourguignon. This was good, but could have used more seasoning. Lisa finished up with the chocolate crepe which she adored. Service was friendly and up beat. The Merry Maker cocktail is a new favorite. It is made with gin, Cointreau and port and served chilled in a martini glass. Yum. We will definitely be back.

The scenario... I had a living social voucher I needed to redeem... It expired in less than a week... My husband and I decided to go on a Wednesday instead of the weekend. We read review on Yelp and were expected super slow service, and wondered whether the reviewers were being fair... Our first contact was with a guy who admitted he was subbing for someone, that he was a landscaper, not a host... Okay... While we. Did wait a few minutes for someone to come to our table, it was not outrageous... We ordered the bruschetta and a poulet crepe and an epinard crepe. The bruschetta was small, but delicious. The crepes were tasty and the staff must have read the previous reviews and improved, or the reviewers were overly critical... there was plenty of sauce in my poulet, the epinard could have used a pinch more seasoning, but the teeny salad accompanying the crepe provided a nice balance of crispness and acid that balanced out the richness of the crepe... We had dessert, too. A créme brûlée and a molten chocolate thing. Ooh, and a local beer, Bull Jagger lager, and a yummy gin martini with port and Cointreau... The Merry Maker... Fun! Go here, eat here, be happy and, America, stop being in such a rush... The pace of service is great...

I hadn't been here before, but my date had, & he was having a mid-week hankering for some of their cassoulet. His past few visits to The Merry Table had been disappointing, as they'd been out of cassoulet. A quick phone call confirmed they did have it (perhaps because it was still early in the dinner hour), so we got down there as quickly as possible. We each enjoyed a cup of lobster bisque to start. Velvety deliciousness. I had the poulet (chicken) crepe. From the menu description, it sounded like a crepe version of chicken pot pie (the filling part, obviously). It was somewhat disappointing: quite lacking in the bechamel sauce mentioned on the menu. The sauce was there.. but only barely. The pieces of chicken were grilled; roasted chicken would've been a better choice for the intended flavor profile. The pieces of carrot in the filling were a little crunchy/underdone. One piece of tomato in the filling was mealy & a bit cold on the inside, as though not quite thawed from the freezer. Basically, the poulet filling seemed like it'd been thrown together from frozen, then grilled ingredients... rather than being simmered together into a lovely, saucy, rich filling (as the menu had led me to expect). The Fella enjoyed his cassoulet, but said it was better the last time. I tried a bit, & it was tasty, though perhaps a bit overwhelmingly smoky. Love me some smoky flavor, but in this case, it seemed to crowd out the other flavors a bit. Our server was friendly & timely; service was paced well, & we had no issues using a coupon. Cute space, decent service, ok food. Will try again.

If you are in Portland and you love crepes, that's the place for you! I have dined there once - in Sept. 2009. Crepes were fantastic, if not to say - the BEST (we had one with lobster and another one with salmon, plus french onion soup). And the food presentation was great as well. Though the restaurant furnishing was pretty simple (and my plate was chipped a bit), it has some coziness in it. To my disappointment that place was closed this spring (I came two days in a row - to have crepes..they had a Closed sign.) Service was as good as you can get. I really would love to have them in Boston!

The Merry Table. Reasonably priced french food is hard to come by and often times something to be wary of but that is not the case here. Most dishes were in the $12 - 17 range. I had the cassoulet, the Lovely Girlfriend had a gigantic salad. All together the bill came to around forty bucks with drinks and tip. The cassoulet was filled with some kind of outstanding sausage and came with an entire roasted duck leg on the side. The big salad was just like it sounds - a really big salad. We didn't order desert but we did see some extravagant crepes being served at tables nearby. We'll have to add that to our next trip as well. Check out my blog on my yelp profile page for all my reviews.

We came here for lunch on our last day in Portland. We were walking around and came upon this cobblestone road (Wharf St), when I said that we had to take a stroll. Glad we did because we stumbled upon this great restaurant. We all wanted something light, so we ordered 3 savory crepes. Daughter had the Texane. She thought it was a little bland, so she took the accompaniments consisting of guacamole, creme fraiche and salsa and turned the crepe to a Picasso and ate it. Hubs ordered the Poireaux which was leeks, wild mushroom and goat cheese. Hubs didn't think the mushrooms were wild but he thought the crepe was delicious. I had the Saumon and the entire family thought it was the best one. It's Boursin filled crepe topped with Smoked Salmon and garnished with red onions, eggs and capers. I thought they were being chintzy on the eggs. Service was friendly and quick. Overall experience was wonderful. Nice looking place. Will return when in the neighborhood!

This has become one of our favorite casual restaurants. The crepes are outstanding, I esp love the shrimp provencale crepe, and the desserts are to die for (the warm banana nutella and the fresh berry crepes are our favs). They also have paninis and salads at lunch, which suits the non crepe lover in our party. Quality of food is consistently good, as is the service, altho the service is slower paced, but, hey it's French! Unpretentious, comfortable space with very reasonable prices.

A friend of mine suggested that we head over to The Merry Table during a trip into the city. I wasn't really sure what to expect, honestly, but I was pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. The service at lunch is very welcoming and, like some of the other reviewers here, I really enjoyed the mix of French and American culture. Sure, I could understand how service could be slow at times, but it wasn't really an issue for us. Even if it were the case, the food would be well worth the wait. I had the Texane crepe for the meal. The dish was presented well, with a large portion and a small salad on the side. I LOVED the flavor within the crepe, and mine came with sour cream, salsa, and guacamole on the side. Very filling and delicious. The dessert was similarly fantastic. My friend and I shared a chocolate-flavored crepe filled with, yes, chocolate, and topped with whipped cream. It was extremely rich and a perfect complement to the meal. I'll be planning another stop to The Merry Table on my next trip to Portland, that's for sure.

This review is for the service at lunch. I've been here twice, I thought I'd give it a second chance. Both times, the lady has been the host, server, drink person, & bus person. I don't know how she does it for this place. What grosses me out is how she'll handle money & then go to cut a lemon for a water in which she did not wash her hands. Sanitary conditions could be better. Water in vases could have been cleaned out & re-watered. The ground was dirty. Business card was not even of her business. Maybe I've been watching too much tv (Bar Rescue & Restaurant Impossible) on the do's & dont's of restaurant business. Expect slow service as she is the only person to do it all except cook. She was concerned about the music playing. Our water cup sat empty for a good 20mins+ & we had to ask her to get a refill. Great for date cuz you can take your time without being rushed. Many ppl were staring at her waiting to grab her attention. Food: Definitely good. I've had better especially back home (San Francisco at Crepevine). They do have savory crepes as well as sweet ones. Very fulfilling, as I was not able to finish my full order. Not sure if I'll come back. Maybe order food to go? Or if she can hire another help for the front room.

French Bistro on Warf street that once you walk in you feel like your in Europe, on vacation. We went for lunch and It was very cozy and low key. Walking in you kinda get to see the bright walls with all natural wood, and fresh roses at every table. This really gives a feel of being warm & inviting yet cozy and intimate. The owner (who is extremely french) is very friendly and charming and often make his rounds to the tables to say Hi (or Bonjour) or even take your order if it's slow. So down to the food. The wine here is very good, so i really recommend getting a glass here bc it is a fair price and portion (6-8$ a glass) I had the Squash soup all fresh and local was perfect! Perfect size, perfect richness, not to heavy but not weak or watery by any means. light and packed with a true flavor of squash! I had their special of the day which was a Pork Lion wrapped in goat cheese & mushrooms, some potato puree on the side and an Apple demi-glaze. it was art in food form and more importantly it taste as good as it looks/sounds! My gf had one of their crepes which is what they are known for and loved it! the portions here are very healthy but not so much you'll need a doggy bag (just the way I like it). you leave feeling light, full and very happy considering the price tag for all this is very fair (6-12$ starter) (12-18$ lunch or main). Between the bright warm decor, classic french music in the background and fantastic food, The Merry Table really makes you feel like you took a mini French vacation. Love this place.

The first few times we went here it was good. Not great, but good. Yesterday was awful. They were stingy with bread for a cheese appetizer - we had to ask for more bread 2 times and still not enough. The scallop crepe was fishy tasting, like the scallops were frozen or old. I couldn't eat it. Nothing was remarkable. In my opinion, they have gotten complacent and aren't trying to make great food, just pass it off as atmosphere.

I thought a relatively quick crepe lunch with some not-so-foodie neighbors would be a good selection and had read some nice things about this restaurant. Maybe it was what we ordered... My husband had the squash soup which was good but spinach crepes were also ordered. Blech. The onions, which were supposed to be caramelized were barely sauteed. A tomato was included which added to an already watery consistency. C'mon, a tomato in January? Why bother? The spinach which was fresh, a nice thought, released its juices into the pocket so the whole thing was sort of a squishy, tasteless unappealing mess. The wilting of the spinach made the crepe flat, barely filled and seemed skimpy. My neighbor ordered it as well and she had to put a great deal of salt on it to make it taste like anything- I suppose it tasted like salt then- could have been an improvement. A creamed spinach with a bit of seasoning may have been a wiser direction. The ham and cheese crepe was also pretty tasteless. I wondered if the owner ate the food. Can't imagine he would let this stuff slip out of the kitchen.

Service was pretty good (think we actually had the owner as our server), and I enjoyed my meal. I look for themed places once in a while like I look for comfort food, and this fit the bill quite well. Definitely would go back!

This place is one of a kind for the area. I'm in between 3 and 4 stars with this one but will give four cause they were trying hard and I did enjoy my meal and would return. When walking in, the owner greets you in French and allows you to pick your table. The menu is primarily crepes and panini's, some salads also. The list of specials had some creative sounding choices. She suggested the lobster crepe with brandy sauce and the bouillabaisse special. My fiance decided on the lobster crepe and I chose the cordon bleu. I believe it was the husband working on the crepes. He made them with ease. The crepes were medium sized. My cordon bleu was delicious. It was melted in a rich sauce with a little field green salad on the side. My fiances lobster crepe was good but it was light on the lobster. For $16.95 we expected it to be more abundant, still it was filling. The asparagus on top with sauce was a nice touch. The fresh squeezed lemonade was awesome. She adds the right amount of sugar. It tasted like a spritzer. Service towards the end was very slow. There are also a few tables outside. The female waitress/owner was the only one taking orders, so was really running around. I could see they needed an extra hand to help out with the volume. I felt bad when I noticed a table leaving cause they witnessed the busyness and decided not to eat there. When the owner did get to you she was pleasant. It's got that European, slow cafe feel to it. I loved the concept and decor and that the owners were straight from France. I also liked that they provided a couple non-crepe/sandwich specials to show off the french cooking. Prices of crepes were around $11-$17 then sweet crepes for $6-$8. It's a good spot if your looking for a change from all the seafood themed places. It lies on a cute cobblestone street. The inside is very charming with old pine floors and a lot of french art. If you want a fast meal, its not the place for you.

Was a bit worried as we ended up there on a very busy night, however we got there early and sat at a nice little outside table with no wait at all. We had the salmon and the brie and apple crepes, very good.

Great crepe and coffee. Some outside seating. Nice place to sit, have a cup of coffee and people watch. Felt like I was back in Paris!

Long wait and unimpressed This is our first stop in Maine. Actually, we were suppose to go to a Thai restaurant on Fore St but it closed down. This was the second choice. There are couple of tables outside but the humid air around us made it feel like I would die from over-perspiration, so we hopped in. The decor is not very impressive. It had a feel of a diner, with a bar on the left side, and a few tables hidden by the column on the right side. The whole place is cover in yellow. You know what they say about yellow, right? You don't? Okay, I will tell you. Yellow walls drive people crazy. Anyway, enough about the decor. I will probably drive you mad too if I keep talking about the decor and not the food. French Onion Soup - I tried this. Very heavy, but quite delicious. It is covered with a layer of cheese that is melted on the bottom but a nice crisp top from being in the oven. Provencal crepe - savory crepe with shrimps, pesto, and tomatoes. I did not like this. The shrimps were cut down the center as halves and there were about 6 halves in the crepe. But the shrimp had no flavor. I guess I'm just use to shrimps being flavored (Cajun, garlic, pepper, etc.). The whole crepe lacked flavor. The tossed salad on the side was actually pretty good. Saumon - Crepe filled w/ cheese and topped with cured salmon - I tried this. It was pretty good. Wish I got this instead. So the hit and miss food already earned it a 3 stars in my mind. But to top it off, the service is horrible. Not that they treated us badly, just that there's one waitress/hostess/bartender/cashier for the whole time we were there (around 1:30 PM). We waited over 10 minutes for our water and menu and then another 30 - 40 minutes for our food. The table next to us were waiting for the bill for so long that they just got up and paid the bill at the bar. There's too many good restaurants in Portland to waste your time here, unless you crave crepes. In that case, prepare to wait. Decor: 3 out of 5 Service: 2 out of 5 Food: 3 out of 5 Value: 3 out of 5

I know this is a crepe place, but order the niciose salad. the best I have had. My company all got crepes, and I sampled them and was also very pleased. For dessert I think it is a given, you must get the nutella banana crepe - a classic - never a bad choice. really wonderful service. An actual french waitress - super friendly and fun. Located on a cobblestone backstreet in the old port - all around a great dining experience.

Absolutely loved the dining experience. We were visiting Portland and found this lovely Wharf Street (Alley) and we were transported back in time and space to a quaint French Restaurant. We ordered the Lobster Bisque and the French Onion Soup, both were outstanding. We shared a Jambon Fromage (Ham and Swiss) Crepe and then had a Chocolate Ganche Crepe and a Sugar Crepe. Totally full and satisfied with a relaxed feeling and enjoyment. If I lived here it would be a place to go where time is lost with good food and good company.

We have been regulars for the last 5 years, but the service and food has dropped significantly over the last 2 years. We tried again on New Years Eve 2015 and were over charged $30 on our credit card. We are done.

NOM.

The soup...I don't care what it is....is going to be the best soup you've had in a very long time. Also, I'm partial to the Mediterranean Vegetarian Tart. It's a dish you think about every day until you have it again. Love this place!

Loved this place. Atmosphere was cozy and we had two great seats at the bar. Came across the place for an afternoon late lunch and the crepes were pretty good and the soup was great!

We had lunch here and it was excellent. We each had a cup of the Gazpacho to begin and it was excellent. I ordered the Croque Monsieur which is a ham and cheese sandwich with bechamel sauce and then put under a broiler. It was the best one I've had on this continent. My Husband had the Goat cheese, mushroom crepe, which was also excellent. I had a bottle of the hard cider from Normandy, OMG it was amazing. My Husband had a beer, which was good. The service was prompt and the food was excellent. There is outside seating, but the wind was howling so we sat inside.

Went here for dessert crepes with my husband after a miserable dinner experience at the Front Room. What a sigh of relief! The French music, the quiet atmosphere, the friendly staff... wonderful. The crepes were delicious (I had the chocolate crepe, and my husband had some sort of lemon-flavored one - both were very good). Loved the colors inside, and the bathroom was super clean, which was a nice surprise! Our server didn't offer any refills of our coffee and it took her (what felt like) a very long time to bring the check by, but I can't complain - it was late in the evening and she looked busy (cleaning, dishes, etc.), so I didn't mind. At least I didn't feel rushed - we probably could have sat there all night and I don't think they would have tried to get us to leave! I'd love to go back to give dinner a try!

We came here on a Thursday night in the summer. As others have noted, the service was a little slow, but we were kicking off a vacation so were not in any kind of rush. I enjoyed the live music, and everyone seemed to be in a good mood. I am kind of a snob about my crepes, but my braised leek crepe was perfect! My boyfriend liked his Mexican crepe, and we split the banana and Nutella crepe for dessert. The lobster bisque was amazing, and I don't usually like lobster bisque! The local beer was good, but they don't have anything on tap. If I lived closer I could definitely see this place being one of my favorites!

The restaurant is tucked away in a side alley in the Old Port. The ham and brie crepe was delicious. The pork sandwich in a bagette needed more pork- the cheese and mustard were the dominant flavors. Everything tasted fresh, including the side salad. The waitress was busy, but was pleasant and attentive. We felt we were being taken care of. I would go back and try more.

We ate here on a terribly rainy Saturday afternoon as well! It is very pleasant inside, and the waitress couldn't have been sweeter. However service took a while as she was the only one serving the entire place! This may sound strange, but The Merry Table served me the best, hands down, best fresh-squeezed orange juice that I have ever had touch my lips! So rich and frothy!! Even without any champagne in it!! We both ordered the French Onion Soup. It was really good! I loved it - but my fiance preferred his to have more of a hearty, "meaty" flavor. We then ordered crepes. He had the saumon crepe, and I had the poulet crepe. His was filled with boursin (my favorite cheese!) and topped with smoked salmon and capers. He enjoyed it immensely as it was very rich. Mine was filled with grilled chicken, oven roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions, tarragon, and bechamel. It was good, but not the best that I had had (I lived in New Orleans as a kid, and you can't beat that outside of France), but it so difficult to find savory crepes anywhere. So, I applaud The Merry Table. I prefer my crepes being creamier. I had to hunt for the bechamel. And for those of you who do not like tarragon, this was the most tarragon flavor that I have ever had in one dish. The crepes both came with a mixed green salad. We were unsure of the homemade vinaigrette's ingredients, but absolutely loved it! So yummy!! A cool aspect to this establishment is that they host evenings where everyone speaks en Francais! Tres bien! Very cool idea! I wish that we lived closer to stay in practice. Overall, The Merry Table scores three stars.

My husband and I stumbled across this place while turning away from its expensive neighbors. The place is very casual and cosy - sort of like a diner but a French diner. I had French onion soup and my husband had potato leek soup. Both were excellent. We each had supurb crepes to follow. Mine was a ham and brie thing, his was a spinach crepe. Delish! We didn't sample much of the rest of the menu but they have a full bar with a decent wine selection, a listing of fancy cocktails, and they have Nutella crepes for dessert. I would recommend The Merry Table if your wandering around the Old Port looking for lunch or if you want after dinner dessert and drinks. The dinner was great but it's not a fancy "date" sort of place. Oh and the prices are very reasonable. Most crepes were $8-ish.

I've now been more than once to this location and they've not been open. Granted, I don't live in Portland so perhaps I've been unfortunate more than once but it strikes me odd that during peak lunch hour I've twice been denied of my deep desires for a quality crepe! Come on guys, operate in business hours that serve the public interest best.

Service was very slow because there was one waitress/hostess for the entire restaurant, but the food was amazing. I recommend the smoked salmon crepe. It was sooo tastey. We finished with the chocolate and banana dessert crepe, which was also fabulous.

My husband and I went here for Valentines Dinner. The place is located on a quaint cobblestone alley way, and is very cute and "french" inside. The ambiance was so nice and relaxing, the music was perfect. Although the tables are a little small the food and drinks truely make up for it. I had their lychee martini and it was the best i've ever had. We ordered crepes as that is pretty much all that there is on the menu, but they are AMAZING!! Perfect portions, nice salad that comes with it. We also had an asparagus appetizer with melted cheese on top and bread crumbs. Very Yummy and not too filling, that way you have room for your meal. I would really recommend this place,. We can't wait to take out friends there and also to go their for their Sunday Brunch. The Merry Table is a must try for when in Portland.

I was there on a Saturday, a bit late for dinner. As others have found, the service was quite slow, but as I was visiting a friend I hadn't seen in a while, it didn't bother me any. It was actually a nice atmosphere to sit and relax and talk with a friend. I had a crepe with spinach, which predominated, and could have used more sauce or seasoning. The ingredients tasted fresh, though, and I would go back again and try something else. Also shared the chocolate crepe, which was a real treat. Like another reviewer, I have wavered between a 3 and 4, but chose 4 because it is different from its neighbors, and seems to serve good interesting French cuisine. Bon appetit.

This place was awesome! It's small, intimate, cozy, and has a great atmosphere. Everything we ordered was delicious and fresh. There was one guy working the entire restaurant (even the kitchen!) but the service was still great. It has an open kitchen so we could see him adding dashes of this and that to the food. The bruschetta, hot cider, and crepe suzette were especially amazing.

My other half brought me here for my birthday, and we had a wonderful time. The folks were helpful and cheerful and the food was magnifique! I had a ham-and-brie crepe with roasted red peppers and garlic for dinner, and a banana-and-Nutella crepe for dessert. Even with a couple of glasses of Viognier and coffee, we ended up spending probably half what we spent for our last dinner at one of the famous Portland restaurants.

We ate there Friday night, one of the few places where we could get a table. Wonderful owner/waitress, very good soup and crostini with goat cheese appetizer. Stuffed crepes nicely done and good wines, reasonably priced. This place is not gourmet but solid. They need to spiff up the interior and the menu quite a bit, it was cozy but tables were tiny and menus need to be redesigned. The plates our food was served on were chipped. And yes, need more waitstaff as when it gets busy we waited quite a long time. But it's great that Portland has a creperie.
