Little Tap House has a great happy hour and considering that's the only time I've been, that is what this review is based on. The service is also wonderful, but like other reviews of this place have said, you can't help but leave a little underwhelmed when it comes to the food. It seems like a cozy place in the winter, but I'm not sure how the atmosphere would be in the summer. The coolest part about their happy hour is the beer and app pairing that they have for $5. When my father and I went on Tuesday, the deal was a Slumdog Brew Creamy Ale and a chocolate, peanut butter, bacon, and banana bread pudding. The bread pudding was surprisingly delicious. Well vodka during happy hour is also cheap, along with draft beers and glasses of house wine. My dad and I tried the calamari and the (SWEET) Thai Chili wings. Both were just okay. The wings were not spicy (I should have read the sweet part about them) and the calamari didn't have good flavor and seemed dried out. Once we ordered food, we got a tasting of a crepe. It was delicious with salmon, goat cheese, and chives, but was nowhere to be found on the menu! I thought that slightly odd because I probably would have ordered it if so. They did however have an appealing list of craft cocktails and I tried the pomegranate mimosa. I think I would come back, but only for drinks during their happy hour!

We are visiting Maine for a few days and staying just outside of Portland. Perusing a local magazine in our hotel room we came an article for this place describing a brunch burger with egg, bacon and a beer cheese fondue sauce that sounded delicious! We went here late night, well past brunch, and it wasn't on the dinner menu. Luckily the waitress and kitchen was very accommodating and we were able to order our brunch burgers, which were delicious and messy! We received an extra special treat, compliments of the chef, a delicious bit of seared tuna salad on a house made chip. The tap list was great with plenty of delicious local beers and the atmosphere was very nice, dark and perfect for a late night meal. Service was a little slow, but they were rather busy. If you're in the area I definitely recommend checking this place out!

Visiting Portland for the first time and overwhelmed by all the delicious dining choices, we decided to "restaurant hop" and check out a smattering of brunch/lunch/dinner places in Portland, splitting small entrees and notable dishes each leg of the journey. The Maine crab cake sandwich is what brought us here! Despite a slow-ish Monday afternoon (Columbus Day), our server Daniel was all smiles, eager to discuss the menu and even talk travel with us too! He informed us that the beef and lamb used in their burgers are house-ground and that they source all their ingredients from local farms and companies...neat! My friend and I split the aforementioned Maine crab cake sandwich, swapping in sweet potato fries for their standard ones at no additional cost (thanks!) The crab cake was scrumptious, lettuce crisp, challah bread pillowy soft, and the remoulade was the perfect sauce to bring the whole sandwich together. We had to wait a few minutes extra for our sweet potato fries, but they were well worth it...perfectly crisp and absolutely delicious. Daniel was even nice enough to split the sandwich and fries evenly, divvying everything up on two separate plates. Had we not been driving back to NYC soon after our meal, we'd have definitely sampled some of their many available beers and intriguing cocktails...maybe next time!

Met up with a friend the other night before the Jenny Lewis/Kurt Vile show at the State. Really liked this place. Nice happy hour vibe with attentive staff, good selection of beers on tap, as well as a nice assortment of appetizers. The location at High and Middle lends itself well to events on Congress Street, like the State Theater, or the Portland Museum of Art, and the Cumberland County Civic Center. I remember, back in the day, when it was Katahdin, when there weren't as many great places to eat and drink. That was a different kind of Portland from today's food Mecca. I liked that my burger was made from beef procured from Pineland Farms, not far from my house. I bike by there regularly and know those are happy cows, and happy cows make for great-tasting burgers. LTH has a nice selection of beers on tap, including Banded Horn out of Biddeford. I had their Wicked Bueno for the first time, a nice, easy-drinking Mexican lager. LTH also has a daily "Bar & Barrel" happy hour, pairing a pint with a nightly appetizer. Specials on wine and well drinks, also from 4-7. All of this adds up to adding LTH to my handful of "go-to" places for pre-event drinks. It's also a place for a bite before going out on the town.

Tried to come here once, but it was too busy, so my boyfriend and i ventured back this weekend. I promptly order the poutine as soon as I spot it on the menu. Poutine addict here! We had been warned the kitchen was behind, and I believe that's why two potato chips spread with goat cheese and honey were randomly brought to us. I don't like goat cheese, but the combination of the salty chip and goaty cheese was actually nice. I ordered the burger with every topping possible. The poutine came and was fabulous. It was like a braised beef stew with cheese curd over fries. Fantastic! I'd go back for that! My burger was cooked wrong but it was still the tastiest burger I've had here so far. Granted that's not saying much since I've only had one from nosh, which I didn't like much. Then we got the cheese cake in a little mason jar. I licked that mason jar clean! :) I left this restaurant a happy girl.

Awful. My raviolis were filled with what tasted like mint I was absolutely disgusting. And we waited over 20 minutes for just the check. I left with a stomach ache

This place is fast becoming a favorite for me. I was first introduced when a friend suggested it as a meetup venue for a bunch of friends from high school to catch up and have a drink. Knowing little about it, only the name, I had dinner before I arrived assuming this place was going to be more of a bar. Imagine my surprise and mortification when I showed up with six of my friends and five of the people we're meeting were sitting down at a table that can only fit one more person. We sheepishly approached our server and explained that we were all hoping to sit together to catch up and that we felt terrible because a bunch of us had already eaten and would really just be having drinks. The server not only rolled with this, but she was downright ebullient. She said she was happy to have us, as it was a slow night and went about arranging a bunch of tables so we could all sit together. Menus were handed out. I simply ordered a beer and insisted I wouldn't be eating. But the menu caught my eye. Poutine? Sliders? Shepherd's Pie? How could I not order something. Ultimately that first night I went for duck confit and braised beef sliders and was exceedingly lucky that the poutine (topped with a heaping pile of mouther-watering shredded beef) was far too large for my friend to finish on her own and I got to try my fair share of that as well. Realizing the nature of our group, the server, without even needing to be asked, offered to bring us separate checks and got every check exactly right. From there I was hooked. Since then I have returned for brunch, lunch and dinner on multiple occasions and have never had bad service or ordered a dish I didn't like. It's not hard to enjoy a menu like this: burgers, fries, sandwiches, salads. The portions are generous, the ingredients are fresh and with an impressive selection of draft beers and signature cocktails. It's got a nice bar area for those looking to keep it casual, as well as a nice dining area for a standard meal. The service is always fantastic. It's easy to find a good, cheap burger in town. But when you want a truly quality burger and a similarly excellent dining experience, head to Little Tap House.

Love how many awesome brunch spots there seems to be in Portland! Went to little tap house last Sunday. The bar/ restaurant has a rustic like vibe inside but very nice and the colors are much more inviting than the old restaurant that was there plush. I started the meal with a raspberry caipirinha. Very tasty and refreshing! I got the build your own omelette with sausage, cheddar, and spinach. Perfectly cooked eggs and a very filling portion. The home fries that came with the eggs where alright, not huge flavor but cooked crispy. The GF got a very tasty biscuits and gravy. Very savory and tasty. Also comes with eggs too. The biscuits super moist and tender. Downside is zero parking even street parking is tough for the tap house. Overall great food and very good service.

My boyfriend and I went to the Little Tap House during happy hour on Friday evening. We were able to get a table in their outdoor seating area without a wait. Their happy hour menu does not include all drinks, but rather select beers, cocktails, wine, and certain food items. They had two draught beers on the happy hour menu. One of the draught beers came with an appetizer. My boyfriend and I each tried a different one and they were very good. By far, the most memorable thing about Little Tap House was their poutine with braised beef. Oh my goodness - so delicious! We stopped in Portland while on a 10-day road trip up the northeast coast to Nova Scotia. You can imagine that we tried a lot of poutine. I enjoyed the poutine here the most. All in all, I enjoyed this place - great poutine, good beer, good service, good atmosphere...can't really ask for much more.

We sat ourselves at some awkward wine barrel tables and were immediately greeted by the bartender. Ordered a few round of drinks and the poutine. Bartender was nice to us, but while we were there another group was complaining very loudly about the poor service. Meh, can't please everyone all the time.

Had a group of 22 on a Saturday night for my wife's 40th. The place was packed but they acted like we were the only customers they had. Food, drinks and services was spectacular. We'll be back again!

My wife and I ate here on July 19, 2014. We were disappointed with the meal. The mussel appetizer was $11 and we received a very small portion of tiny mussels. Normally restaurants serve a decent size portion for this cost. The lamb burger was just average. We were pleased with our beer selections. Overall we would say that the restaurant is a bit over priced.

I've been to the Little Tap House a few times now and have very mixed feelings. Menus is small but has variety. Good beer selection but nothing that you can't find around town. Limited alcohol selection but a decent pour. The service isn't great. First visit was ok. Waiter was clearly new but personable. Second visit had a wonderful waitress that was very attentive. Third visit we had a waitress who seemed to vanish for long periods of time and just wasn't stellar. If they can get the right staff and mix it up a bit with the beer this will work.

I have written about 50 reviews and have awarded 1 star once or twice in extreme instances. I eat out a lot and once in a while a bad experience is par for the course. The food at Little Tap House was the least of my problems. I'll get back to that later. I arrived at 7 and asked for a table for one. I am vacationing in Maine and this time I'm going solo. There were two empty tables for two by the window but apparently they were reserved for anyone but me. The hostess said it would be about 20 minutes and encouraged me to order a drink. I certainly wanted one but I had a long drive to get home so I deferred. I opted to wait outside well to the side of the front door. At 730 I inquired about my table. I was implored to order a drink and so I did thinking the process might speed up. I was provided with a dinner menu and asked to order. I said I would order when I got my table. While I waited I took a light shower from the condensation coming from the overhead air conditioning duct standing having my drink at a stand up table. I reviewed the menu and planned on ordering twin lobsters and a nice appetizer. At 745 I was essentially informed that no table would be opening up and I should eat at the bar. I angrily said it seems I have no other choice but took a seat at the end of the bar. Well the lobsters seemed foolish to eat at the bar so I ordered a salad and steak that seemed more appropriate. At 805 my salad and steak arrived simultaneously. I wondered what took so long to get a small salad and was informed that the kitchen was "busy" by my server. The "hand cut" fries looked as if they had been quite good right up to the point where they were burned to charcoal in the "busy" kitchen. The steak was mostly good but serving it on top of the burnt fries makes it pretty difficult to cut without spilling fries. The restaurant space is pleasant and would earn a 3 or a 4 The food was certainly not extraordinary and would earn a 2 or a 3 The humiliation and beyond bad service certainly cements a solid, well deserved 1. As the song goes "1 is the loneliest number." Treating me like a human being and providing me with a table would not have brought the economy of Portland to its knees. I would have placed a large order and tipped generously as I always do. Thanks for my worst dining experience ever in Maine and in all of my Yelp reviews.

We've been here for dinner several times since they opened and we loved them the first couple of times. It has great potential. This last time was a little different. Our server Sarah was awesome, the food was decent. I like that they use local ingredients as often as they can even growing their own herbs and tomatoes right outside. A couple things that were weird this last time though was 1) the bathrooms didn't have hand soap - none in one and very little in the other -- I can only imagine how that plays out throughout the restaurant. Bathroom seemed a bit grimy. 2) We sat outside in the lovely chairs and table setting they have set up, but were forced to come inside because we were inundated with cigarette smoke from staff taking their smoke breaks right next to the outdoor seating. The music was almost too loud to talk. Not sure what's going on, great concept, potentially better than your standard pub, and I don't mind paying for something like that. But management needs to step up their game. Oh, and bring back the pickles - fried or with a burger.

Bartender was great. Drinks are strong and yummy. Try the lobster Mac! Go for brunch, too. Crowd is mixed, in a good way. No matter who you are you will feel welcome and comfortable.

After reading reviews here and on other sites, Hubby and I decided to try this the other night. I was VERY disappointing. The server was plesant enough, but a tad on the slow side. The food was very monotone in flavor, and I found it odd that so many items on the menu gave you options on the sauces - just pick one! We started with potato chips with blue cheese fondue which was good except that they gave you enough blue cheese fondue for about ten chips and a huge bowl of chips. The chicken stew with mushrooms was too salty (and I like things on the salty side), and was served with potato chips instead of something that could soak up the juice. It would have been nice for our server to let us know that the stew came with potato chips too so we could choose a different starter. We ended up with two bowls of uneaten potato chips. For our entrees I got the braised pork ribs with thai chili after being promised it wasn't too spicy. I can take spicy as I grew up around VERY spicy Mexican and Tex Mex cuisine, but I wasn't in the mood for too much heat. For the most part they were find (although they had the flavor of something that had been made a few days prior and heated up for service). However about 1/2 way through my portion I got a piece of Thai chili that was not cut up very well and it was WAY over the top spicy - like eating a whole Thai Bird chili. It was so hot that I could not taste any more of meal and upset my stomach for hours. The chef really needs to learn how to properly use a chili this hot if he is going to use it! Hubby got the steak frites. The steak was fine - nothing special but no complaints about the meat. However, the presentation was the most bizarre I've ever seen for steak frites. It was served in a pasta bowl on top of a pile of green beans and cauliflower with the fries piled on top. The shallot marmalade that was supposed to be a garnish was hidden on the bottom below everything. It was a BIG disaster because of the presentation. Because of my pork ribs, they did comp us a dessert. We chose the creme brulee, but it was grainy with a bad texture. It was the worst meal I've had in almost ten years of visiting Portland restaurants.

Very good - food was great, service (Julian?) was excellent -prompt, helpful & friendly. The menu is definitely in the gastro pub / comfort food vein. I had the shepherds pie, which was v nice (a dish which is always better in a restaurant than the worthy homemade version yer Ma used to make...). I would say it was a more stew-like concoction than I would consider Shepherds pie to be, but it tasted great so not a big deal. My wife had a salad with steak - the former was great, the latter a tad dry I thought, although she was happy with it. We did also split a dish of the poutine, which was damn fine. Not vegetarian friendly! Slathered in shredded beef. Yum. Very hearty and filing for a summer evening, but it was that tasty - great fries too. Have to mention the beer list also - small enough (c.12 or so) but a great selection. I particularly liked the whole 'local beer on draught' - I don't get out much, so I wanna drink draft beer when I do. They also had a good choice in terms of beers under 6% ABV - I like to have more than one without feeling slaughtered. The vibe on a Sunday evening was definitely well-heeled restaurant-ish, but given the layout and spacious access to the bar, I suspect it has a more mixed / bar vibe on a Fri / Sat night. Will definitely come back.

As a tourist to Portland I was taken to Little Tap House by a few locals. First off the inside was great, lots of space to move around, an open bar area, and fun little pieces of art. Service was also great, we were immediately seated, given water and then introduced to our very friendly waiter (the one from Texas). He had great suggestions, was honest about portion sizes and what he preferred off the menu, and had great beer recommendations. They had quiet a few beer choices (13 I believe) on tap and the beer fans with me seemed very impressed. At the table of 7 we all ordered something different. They were very helpful with one persons food restrictions and willing to make and substitutions needed. I ordered the Beef poutine, wanting to try something unique and different from what I would find in my home state of Texas. Man on MAN!! This was awesome! This is not something I would normally order for a meal but I thought an appetizer would be a good choice for a light meal. I was wrong. There was sooooo much food. Pretty much everyone at the table had a good amount after I ate as much as I could. It was a pile of braised beef and cheese over delicious fries. I highly recommend the poutine and people who got the crab cakes said they were some of the best they had ever had.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I came here for dinner and drinks with friends and really like the atmosphere. They have a large selection of beer on draft and also make very good mixed drinks. I had the lobster roll and it was very good. The staff is very attentive and friendly. I will definitely be back for dinner again to check out some of the other options. I saw many dishes that looked great pass by while at my table. We sat in the bar area at a hightop barrel...very cool. They also have outdoor seating. This is a great new place to check out!

Excellent service. Meg was friendly, attentive, very knowledgeable about the food and beer selections. Beer was reasonably priced and an interesting selection. We split the honey hot wings (best I've had though I'm no expert) and the brucshetta which was good too. Our party ordered fish and chips x2, wild mushroom pie, and the turkey burger, all which were fantastic. Great fried pickles and beer battered sweet potato fries. Not a huge menu selection but everything is done right. Will definitely go back!

Came here for lunch on a Monday in August, a quick peek inside revealed an ambiance I usually like, a city-neighborhood bar type vibe. The decor I'd most compare to a tap house like Pony Bar in NYC. The beer list was fairly wide ranging and hit on a few craft brews and styles. At 6-7 bucks a pint maybe a little pricey but not ridiculous. This was about all that I can say positive about my experience. I ordered a beer but was also hungry after a 5 hour drive so I ordered one of their burgers that touted locally sourced ingredients. I ordered mine med. rare as usual, and it came undercooked. The taste was also not to my liking, from the rather unsubstantial bun that soaked through with grease quickly to the taste and texture of the actual meat. Ive had a better burger at Ruby Tuesday's and for a few bucks less. Also my friend's order was botched by the waitress, and he was almost done with his meal before the correct side arrived. With all the options available in Greater Portland, I can't think of any good reason to go here, especially to eat.

I wish I had listened to the recent reviews before heading in for dinner with my wife and 17 year old son. To repeat other reviewers, underwhelmed (at best) describes the food, and indifference from the wait staff seems to be a repeated theme. I literally created an account just to post about this. Crowded Saturday evening, we arrived at about 6:30 and had to wait. No problem. I got a couple of beers for my wife and I, and a Pepsi for my son. We stood and chatted while we waited for a table. Kind of unusual because the bar area mixes with some of the table area so we were standing around while people ate at tables next to us. The space is small and it was crowded, so I understand. When we got a table, though, it was at one of the tables in this mixed area. On stools. Ok. Whatever. I laid my jacket across my lap and dealt with it. Better than waiting longer for a different table, but definitely awkward. We immediately ordered an appetizer, the charcuterie board ($12), and then waited. After a while, we ordered food. And still waited. After about 20 minutes, here comes the charcuterie. It looked decent (and it was, but not much better than what could be served at home) so we began. And then after about 2 bites came our meals. I don't care for that, but we moved things around the table and dealt with all the food essentially at once. My wife had the Shepherds Pie ($16), which was tasty, but long on potatoes and short on lamb. Good flavor, though. I had the lamb burger ($13.50 - so not worth it) with goat cheese, which was just ok. The patty was tiny compared to the bun. The lamb and goat cheese lost all flavor with all that bread and the boring lettuce, tomato and onion. Underwhelming. But it was cooked medium rare as I ordered, so that was good. My son had the fish and chips ($16), and the fish was barely cooked. Still somewhat doughy on the inside of the batter. He also described it as bland. I had a bite and agreed. So, say something to the waitress? Good idea. Except she didn't bring us our food, and she never came back over except for when the food was first brought over by the hostess. I had finished my beer and could have had another, but no one asked. Our table water bottle was emptied and taken from our table, but not replaced. I ended up sharing water from my wife's glass, and then she drank from our son's. Getting the check involved gyrations to get her attention as she chatted with other staff and friends at another table. By this time, 8:30, people around the bar had cleared out and I didn't see anyone waiting for dinner. That made sense to me given our experience. Still, we weren't a priority to her. I paid the bill, didn't complain, put down the traditional 15% tip (I'm normally closer to a 20% tipper) as I didn't want to make a fuss in front of my son. As we were walking to the car, we all agreed that we'd rather not go back. I was disappointed, as a friend of mine knows the owner, and I had heard that the burgers were great, but again, underwhelmed is the right word. For the money, much better choices in Portland. And for the burger, Elevation Burger would have been better. Sorry.

Little Tap House is a not-so-little neighborhood pub with what might possibly be the most beautiful-looking Shepherd's pie in Portland. Not only is their pie beautiful but they proudly informed us that the pie and their burger are award-winning or voted best in the land by someone or another. If I were the judge in a Best Of contest that included Little Tap House as one of the contestants, I would ordain them Friendliest Wait Staff because they were, quite literally, the friendliest wait staff I've ever met. At one point, I began to wonder if maybe they'd mistaken me for someone famous and that's why they were treating us so well. Since no one asked me for an autograph, I can only assume that that's the five star service they give to everyone regardless of how much they resemble Ricky Lake.

To spite the hipsters (or become one, take your pick) I would like to say that we went to The Little Tap House before it was cool. But to be honest, it was already pretty cool in there. The decor is rustic. Whiskey barrels sit on wide-planked pine floors, serving as tables for the standing crowd. There is at least one pitchfork on the wall. There is a television over the bar that was, mercifully, powered off. I didn't try the food but the beer selection was good. My forecast for this place: it's going to do very well. Sayonara Plush. You will not be missed.

I really enjoyed my dinner here. We arrived around 7 and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, since we were 5 and didn't want to sit at one of the barrels. We all ordered beers, Smuttynose, as it were and a representative from the brewery was there giving out swag for anyone drinking Smuttynose. Very cool. Service was prompt and food was really tasty. I had a caesar with crab cakes which was tasty, but relatively modest portions. Two people had fish & chips. Again, very tasty, but the portions (for America, anyhow) were pretty modest. Also, I like blue cheese--but blue cheese dressing in coleslaw... does not work. Portion-wise, the nights' winners were the strip steak which looked delish and was cooked very well, and the lobster mac, which I tasted and was out of this world & very filling. Overall, very tasty food, normal, good service and lots of beers. I like the feel of the place and how open it is, yet somehow cozy. And I like not being pressed up next to the other diners. I would definitely go back.

I went to Little Tap house twice during my vacation in Portland. The first time we went we went for lunch on a weekday. The place was empty, so we sat at the bar. We found the bartender to be quite nice and let us sample whatever beers we wanted and we enjoyed them. The lunch food was delish! The burger was superb (perhaps the best we have ever had) and we really enjoyed the house smoked salmon. But then......... We decided to go back for brunch another day. What a thorough disappointment. Weather was superb and they have some outside seating. The egg dishes are not that unique and I was expecting better quality given how much the business advertises they use farm raised meats, eggs, etc. The steak and eggs were overcooked. We ordered it medium rare. When the server asked me how my steak was I said it was overcooked (it was 1/3 medium rare, 1/3 welldone, and 1/3 leather). He they responded "I'm sorry". I have never been so surprised in my life. I was hoping he would at least offer to cook another piece or reduce the bill by $1 or something. So basically, I think this place has some potential, but needs better server training. I know this is a neighborhood spot, but I think this being Portland, the standards would be higher. I would probably go back for lunch but would be weary to try anything new or return again for brunch

I had an awful experience when I tried to have a nice meal at this restaurant with a friend. First of all, we could barely hear each other talk over the performer who was there for acoustic brunch, who was talented but way too loud for a small space. Our waitress was nice enough at first, but she seemed to forget about us after we ordered our meals. Finally, after about 40 minutes, a different waiter served us. The prices aren't outrageous, but the portions are surprisingly small. My eggs benedict wasn't even served on a whole biscuit. Later, our waitress was unbelievably rude and copped an attitude when we wanted to split the check. The other wait staff were friendly and helpful, but she ruined our whole morning. If you want to be treated with respect and receive a decent amount of food for your money, I would suggest getting brunch just about anywhere else in this city.

It's tough to figure the little tap house out. When we walked in it seemed like a neighborhood bar. A little loud because the Pats lost, in fact, one patron was kicked out while we were there. On the other hand the food was excellent. We have been and lamb burgers, regular and sweet potato fries, and the Thai wings. All of the food was excellent. The beer list was extensive and the servers were competent. I probably would have tried a steak or more upscale choice had I not been so concerned about the ambiance when we arrived. It seems like a place with a split personality, which is fine with me.

Disclaimer: I was there about a week ago, and the place has only been open for less than a month, so they get some "growing pains" leeway. Cozy might not be the right word as they space is pretty open, and apparently voices travel pretty well, but there is a nice low-light ambiance that makes for a casual atmosphere that's quite alright for a date. Fantastic beer selection and all tried were $6.00 across the board, so not certainly cheap, but not insane for quality drafts. Somehow resisted the Poutine and went for the Honey BBQ Wings, which were decent; pretty meaty and savory but nothing like the wings that can be found just up the street at the Congress Bar & Grill. I was also shanked by one of the bones, but we'll chalk that up to user error. I'm always a sandwich-over-entree man and aside from the apps/tapas, the menu consisted of 3 salads and one burger and then several entrees. I went straight for that Pineland Farms, house-ground, choice of cheese, with fries for $11.00 burger and was not let down. A really delicious burger for quite a decent price in this day and age. Acoustics? Dude? Or both? Despite being about 3/4 full and buzzing with casual conversation, you could hear the bartender clear across the room saying all sorts of idiotic things. Things about girls, personal opinions on all sorts of subjects; all loud enough to interrupt a conversation on the other side of the room. I don't normally complain about this sort of thing as it can sometimes add a little character, but in this case it was just plain obnoxious. Waitress and other table-visiting staff members were really pleasant & knowledgeable. Consensus: Good date spot with a good burger and/or salad and that beer selection, just hope that dude behind the bar learns to tone it down or isn't there to ruin the mood.

My husband and I went here with our living social deal. I had the burger and fries and my husband had the steak, fries and added a salad. Everything was so delicious, fresh and local! We started out with some local beers that they had on draught as well. It was a little noisy but nothing too bad and a great mix of people. Park across the street and use the meter!

3 star food, 1 star bar service. Our very awkward (silent, unfriendly) bartender got us our drinks and a food menu 10 minutes later, and eventually we put in an order for sliders and beet bruschetta. The bruschetta was disappointing and super tiny with little to no beets, but whatever, the slider buns were nicely toasted and pretty good. But while we were waiting the bartender proceeded to tend his bottles in front of us, MARRYING NEW BOTTLES with the old. First the vodkas and then gins. This is ILLEGAL, i have worked in the industry for years and you cannot marry liquor bottles especially in front of customers. Management better watch out!

Bigger menu, but not too big! More beer drinking food options in addition to some fine dining type features. Wings were cooked perfectly, as was the turkey burger. Glad I gave it a 2nd shot.

Give this place a miss. There are much better places for good beer (Novare Res, Eastender, or North Point) and food. The poutine were FANTASTIC..I will give them that. The interior was inspired and needed more character. The crowd seemed oddly uniform for Portland as well.

I'm surprised by the reviews! My girlfriend and I were on the hunt for a great burger and beer. We dropped into the LTH because of the high ratings, and awards for "Best Burger". The beer was good, but a lot of Belgians. Not my favorite beers, but good for what they were. Service was 'ok', but the place wasn't very busy. Some local running club would have people pop in for some sort of scavenger hunt thing, and other than that, there was hardly any "customers". So, it should not have been very hard to be a bit more attentive. So, lets get down to it! The Burgers. Funny, because we each took a bite of our burgers and just looked at each other and almost started to laugh. I don't think the meat was bad...but it did kind of taste funny. We aren't the send the food back to the kitchen tye of people, but we each were actually considering it as our first time! We ordered our burgers med. rare, but they arrived med. well to well, and incredibly dry! Maybe overcooked was a good thing, maybe it was precautionary. Regardless, it was a bit unpleasant. I was really hungry, like REALLY hungry, yet I still considered not finishing my burger. I have had farrrr better burgers at Wild Willy's, and Burger King for that matter. Will not return to the LTH, for a burger anyways. Eastender's is a far superior burger, and they use "Fresh" local products. The "Fresh" part is important. Cheers, Dennis M

Went to the Little Tap House for drinks with a few friends on a Friday evening a couple of weeks ago. Without even giving us a second to size up the place to decide where we wanted to perch, we were ushered to a stand up table by a rather militant host. One of my friends, who has a heart condition, dragged a bar stool over to the table because he wanted to sit down. Although the bar area was nearly empty, the militant host came over and whisked the chair away from my friend, barking that those chairs were meant for the bar patrons. As I mentioned before, there were barely 3 customers sitting at the bar and plenty of stools were available in case the place was to suddenly fill up with thirsty Friday night revelers. Also, since we were drinking and a mere 5 feet away from the bar, I'm not sure why we didn't actually qualify as bar patrons. The militant host informed us that stools had been ordered for the stand up tables, but were not in yet, so we would have to just stand. He also grabbed a stool away from a customer at the table next to us, literally pulling it out from under him as the man tried to sit. Needless to say, we finished our drinks and went elsewhere. None of the four of us intends to ever go back to the Little Tap House. There are so many other great watering holes in Portland, I'm not sure why anyone would put up with that kind of treatment. We had actually been warned about this type of bad service at the Little Tap House from another friend who had been equally offended during his one experience there. He was absolutely right.

We were greater by a bartender named Tim. Great guy super friendly. We order drinks and dinner. Dinner was great! I ordered the turkey burger and my husband ordered the fish and chips. The sweet potato fries were to die for. The burger was huge but so good! I would definitely go back again. Great atmosphere.

This place has a very nice floor. Be sure to enjoy it, because, aside from the craft beer, which can be found anywhere these days, it is the only good thing this place has to offer. Like its predecessor, Plush, The Little Tap House is a soulless formula business. Plush was basically an Applebee's in a cocktail dress. Tap House is its retarded country cousin. The lovely aforementioned floor, along with some barrel-tables, are complemented by a hotel-bar-style hostess station, institutional furniture and a big television bathing the whole confused mess in unrelenting flickering blue inanity. Above the din, one has the pleasure of being subjected to club dance music. A lonely antique farming implement hangs on the wall, lending this "rustic" establishment all the legitimacy of a medical degree from Grenada. I was happy to see Plush go under, and hopeful that it would be replaced with a business that had some heart and dared to be a little different. Oh, well. Next time, maybe.

Went here for brunch with a wicked hangover. Their Poutine with cheese curd and braised beef was the perfect remedy, and it was a huge portion for just nine bucks! Hope to try the Little Tap House for dinner during my next Portland visit.

cute place with friendly service and great food! i was very pleasantly surprised by our lovely experience there this past saturday night. we were looking for a place very close to our hotel, and yelp steered us here. it wasn't too loud or crowded, which was a relief, as we were dining with a 5-year-old. we had a really delicious reuben, a super yummy burger, and our daughter enjoyed her turkey burger. we took our server's suggestion and ordered the chocolate cake for dessert, and it was so good! our waiter was really nice and friendly. if we lived here, we would be regulars!

My dining partner was very pleased with her house salad and house vinaigrette, topped with perfectly cooked and simply seasoned salmon. I enjoyed the "foraged pie," a sort of vegetarian shephard's pie with fiddleheads, carrots, onions, shrooms, and fresh herbs, and a KILLER shroom gravy and topped with mashed Maine taters. I got a complimentary half-size Saisan from Chicago (something Goose?) which was VERY tasty, but the keg was kicked. So. No more for me. Had an Oxbow instead, which was nice. Friendly waiter, nice looking place, a little noisy. The cheese board and charcuterie look good -- if I visited again, I might try those along with some different beers.

Ok, so this place is pretty new so may have some growing pains. Maybe. Will change review if go back again and is different. Give it a chance, it's a new business. Trendy well designed space and cool layout. Like how they've left the open space in the front for people to stand around the bar. Unfortunately the acoustics are TERRIBLE. Desperately needs some baffling of some sort. Be prepared to not hear someone directly across from you at a table. This will be a pretty significant problem considering the clientele is mainly yuppies 30 and up, and wealthy starey old West Enders who still think they're 35. Male bartender fairly rude and not hustling or attentive on a Saturday night. Not that knowledgeable either about the beers. Beers - well, you call yourself a "Tap Room" but your selection for Maine is pretty standard (and at least a buck too expensive for each one), nothing exciting for someone looking to drink some interesting beer in a beer town. I get why you have the good standards but you're going to attract people thinking there is more of a selection. Table service was excellent up until the very end. Might have gotten distracted. Love the professionalism but was definitely bordering on the folksy style of waiting tables you see a lot here. This place will attract patrons that know what they're doing when dining, just be professional. Refreshing to see a cocktail list with unpretentious descriptions, but when ordered were pretty standard, borderline boring. Like the way the wine list is presented but did not sample. Food- Menu, no specials, nothing jumps out at you. Could have Googled the same menu. Right price points though. Entrees, boring, overcooked, flavorless. Burger for some perspective, flavorless and boring yet big, isn't that what people like?... Will this place do well? Yeah, hits the sweet middle of the road spot for the aforementioned clientele.

Wish them nothing but the best. I have been there twice. Once for a tweetup, in which we swarmed the place and they survived. Last night I just wanted a good meal and glass of wine. Had a red wine that was silk and a great medium rare burger. Yes, I said wine. I don't drink beer. I still liked this place! The bartender understood what I liked, the wine was 6 or 7 and was amazing. She told me about the employee who picks the wine and wine, and alot of the thought process behind little tap house. YES there is a noise problem in here-the walls are brick and cement, it happens. Nothing that can't be fixed. I appreciate that the interior vibe is friendly, down to earth, and focused on the food/drink. The made some large changes to the interior and I think they are great. This location is plagued with parking issues, always has been. Worth a visit. I have only sat at the bar so no idea what table service was like. My bill was less than $20, happy girl.

With all the options in Portland, I found this place below average. Wobbly tables!! Come on Little Tap House... Wobbly tables are the worst, step up your game! The waitress dropped a chicken wing on me, and got a bunch of sauce on my shirt. That's okay, but I never even got another chicken wing or anything! I had the chowder and wasn't a big fan, it had a lot of salt and a lot of potatoes. You can tell a lot about a place from their chowdah! Spend your $ elsewhere people!

Had a really delicious gyro last night. While it's not exactly the "typical" gyro, in that it comes open-faced, the flavor was spot on, and it was more than enough to make a dinner out of. One critique is the amuse-bouche...it's a nice touch to bring it out as a gift from the kitchen, but to me it felt like there was a little something missing in the flavor. I will definitely be going back there again soon...and will be trying out the amazing looking burger next time.

Good food, good drinks, good beer selection. Wait staff is very attentive and accommodating. The wings were great, nice crispy skin and good flavor on the sauce - not as spicy as I would like, but good nonetheless. The burgers are really tasty and always a good staple.

We love the Little Tap House! The food is consistently good and you can tell that they use fresh and often local ingredients. The service is always friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. They have a good-size pub area that is nice if you just want to grab a drink and an appetizer. We've been there a few times and we have yet to be disappointed. Highly recommended!

I went here last night for drinks and had a really good experience. Obviously LTH is doing well, and has become a good neighborhood staple, undoubtedly because of their pretty decor and must try apps and meals, but I was curious how the staff were and if it was a place that, you know, I REALLY wanted to go back to. My party threw a few curveballs for our waitress, and she handled them like a champ. First we asked to squeeze in a few more happy hour drinks 3 minutes before it was "over", and she willingly did so. Sounds good to me. Our party of three was at a small, barrel table (super cool by the way) but after about an hour, I heard from some other friends that they were on their way. We needed to move (perfect my review, my evil self thought), so I asked a gentleman who was seating others and he kindly and graciously moved us to a larger space. So far so good. 3 more friends arrived, and I believe each of them received their beverages and eats from different people- not sure why suddenly we had three waiters (we did move) but it was ok. They do their job well but never really intruded. Nothing worse than stopping your story right when it's at the GOOD PART because-oh hi, yes, we'll take the check. Wait what was I saying? So our front end experience went well. Drinks were generic, but we all indulged in apps are enjoyed them- my friend especially enjoyed the calamari (buttered in something. Oh so delicious.) and honey wings. Soup was good, as was the hummus plate- all around delicious! The chef was out so the sous chef was in charge (Dan) and he had a sample of goat cheese brought out to all of us. A great experience! Nothing took hold of me and said come here every weeknight- probably the parking situation (not so good) kept me from that, but all in all, a cute, maturing gastropub. It think it will stick around and do well as long as it matures with the city.

I know this place has reviews that fluctuate all over the scale. I agree with the lower stars in the beginning and am now a 4-5 star believer. These guys (ladies) took on this location where every past business here didn't survive. They definitely struggled for more than the grace period I usually give new businesses. One thing that I appreciate about LTH is their want to support other local businesses and host events for local non-profits or struggling charities. That's the point right, to help others that help you in an awesome, "little" city. I actually don't remember my first time here, but I do know they've always been welcoming no matter how busy they are. Every server/bartender I've had has never not greeted me politely or acknowledged I'm there; that goes farther than several of the 5 star places in the area. It took them a couple of years to realize what Portland wanted and needed. Simple, but not cheap. Last night we went in for a light dinner after the First Friday Art Walk. Seated at a small two top and perfect for our two apps and drinks. We indulged in mussels (surprise!) and calamari. The mussels were unbelievable. That says a lot about them, coming from me. There were roasted garlic cloves and scallions in a thicker, buttery, wine sauce. Savory without being rich. The calamari was lightly breaded and fried () with a nice, garlicky, spicy aioli. The two apps, his beer and my drink came to $35 and we were satisfied for the night. I can't wait to return to this little, Portland gem that's still and up and coming. They understand that in a tough, foodie city, constant change and growth is important In the industry. Ps, did I mention their mussels are amaze-balls?!

I've been to Little Tap House many times. Last night I met up with a friend from college that I haven't seen in more years than I care to admit. This was a great place to spend a couple hours catching up. We spent more than two hours catching up, taking up space at one of the few tables. Never once did I feel rushed to get out so they could turn the table over. That's impressive - especially since we did so much gabbing and just a little eating and drinking. With that said, onto the food and drink. We split an order of the calamari as an app. While the portion wasn't huge, it was just right for two. It was lightly breaded and fried nicely, served with a delicious remoulade. And as an added twist, there were little pieces of fried okra mixed in. Yum! For my entree I had a burger. It was perfectly cooked, delicious and juicy! The fries were also amazing - with just a hint of seasoning. My friend had the fish and chips and she raved about it as well. The atmosphere here is cozy and the staff friendly and welcoming. My friend, who had never been, was so glad I recommended the place and is looking forward to bringing her husband soon.

The Little Tap House seems like a pretty good bar with a decent local craft beer on tap, but unfortunately I can only comment on the bad service. We sat outside because the few tables outside are dog friendly. After waiting 5 minutes or so, I checked in inside with the hostess who promised to be out shortly. We waited another 20 minutes before checking in again at which point they promised again. After another 10, we gave up. A few beers would have been great but unfortunately we'll never know.

Went to Portland over the weekend with a group of friends for my bachelor party. We got in to our hotel at the holiday Inn across the street and decided to check this place out... And I am so glad we did. The drink selection is great and gives you some really good options for local breweries. The food was amazing, most of our group got the special steak sandwich which was phenomenal. The service was great, 7 of us sat at the bar and Emily took care of all of us, got our drinks and food quickly. She also gave us a bunch of great recommendations for bars to go to. After the night we had we needed a breakfast to get us all going again before brewery tours.. So we went across the street again... And again I am so glad we did. The breakfast was delicious and exactly what we needed, and the mimosas were a great addition to get things going again! When I go back to Portland I will make sure this place is one of my stops.

Stopped in due to a Living Social of $15 for $30. Grabbed the last table available, so got lucky with no wait! Host and wait staff were great. Complimentary bread was delicious...tasted like a honey butter, but I'm not sure. Also some little pickled treats to munch on while you wait. My wife and I shared a wedge salad which was very tasty, then each had a burger. The burger was fantastic (and huge). Had it medium...cooked perfectly. The fries on the side were very tasty, also. Love the beer selection and mission of the place. Hope the establishment does well.

It was a cold, blustery Sunday afternoon and we had just gotten out of a convention at the Holiday Inn. After being surrounded by people Little Tap House was the perfect oasis to escape the crowds. They had a Sunday brunch as well but we had lunch on the mind so lunch it was. However, I should note their outrageously good Mimosa / Bloody Mary deals. Something to look forward to next time I go for brunch. I ordered the fish tacos and my partner got the burger with sweet potato fries. Our waitress was friendly and it was pretty quiet. We sat in the back towards the kitchen. I've had a couple drinks at Little Tap House before and sat at the bar but it was a good Sunday afternoon atmosphere. My tacos were presented well, with a newspaper wrapping underneath - kind of a play on "fish" news. The waitress told me they use it for their fish and chips but thought it was cute to add to the fish tacos. I agree. You get a lot of meat for the fish tacos and the fish cuts were good but my only gripe is they were a little bland. There is a mayo sauce with lettuce that goes on the tacos but it was missing something. Might have been that the fish cuts were too big to accommodate the flavor the sauce was supposed to provide, but anyhow a little bland for me. Maybe some spice could be added as an option? The burger however was delicious. I had to steal two bites instead of just one. The sweet potato fries were also cooked just how I like 'em - crispy but not burnt. I would definitely recommend their burger and go back for another one next time I'm in the mood. I love the interior design in here as well. Definitely a spot to check out next time you're downtown, if the wait isn't too bad.

Eat the cheesy cauliflower. Just do it. We went to Little Tap House on my friends and my biweekly brunch schedule. It was so good that I definitely will be back. It was beautiful out but quite windy so I was happy to sit by the big windows in the front and listen to the live guitar music. The menu is brief, but from my experiences well executed. My friends ordered the chef's board, the house salad and the monte cristo. I personally had the cauliflower gratin (which I'm referring to a cheesy cauliflower because I am a heathen) and the poutine (because I clearly was on a cheese binge that day). Have you ever had poutine that was soggy because the fries were not cooked enough and they absorbed too much gravy. These were not at all like it. The fries were crispy and the bacon was generous. What more can you ask for? We did receive an amuse-bouche of a tomato soup, it looks that that is pretty standard. I personally cannot consume tomatoes, but my dining companions did tell me it was awesome. Even if they do give this to everyone, I like the concept of giving a little extra something that isn't the standard bread basket. The service was solid, but not particularly amazing. Four stars with a solid five star potential in the future.

We went here last night for an early bite to eat. I loved the concept. I ordered the Poutine and the Fiddleheads. The poutine was one of the best I have had. The blend of meat, gravy and cheese curds were perfection! Fiddleheads are a local thing here in Portland and cooked with bacon and goat cheese how could they be anything but delicious. My hubby got the potato chips and beer fondue followed by the pork spareribs and risotto. Both were incredibly fresh and tasty! The cons: It was way to warm in there and we found our (it is a beer bar) to be served warmer than they should be. The service was a bit slow to start even though the restaurant was also slow. But the server was pleasant and the service got better as the meal continued. Review Edit: The last few times we have been here the service keeps going down. It is always terribly warm in there and the service seems to be slower and slower every time we go. Last time we went we waited an hour for our food and my Medium burger came out raw in the center. How does that happen? They took it off the bill and the food is still AMAZING except for this one burger incident.

This is a 4-star review that can easily get bumped up to a 5 the next time I visit. This open concept bar/restaurant is beautiful! Hard wood floors, barrels converted into tables, and a nice, fully-stocked bar. I came here with a friend on what happened to be their two year anniversary. They had a very special anniversary beer on tap made by Barreled Souls: a combination of barley wine and a few other odds and ends. Surprisingly good, if you like the sweeter maltier beers. In fact, I really loved their beer menu because it seemed to feature more of these types of beers than you might find at other places around town. In addition to that, I had an imperial stout - my achilles heel of beers. Service was great as well. We had a wonderful server who was extremely friendly and chatty in just the right way. In addition to our beers, we ordered warm -soy-coated peanuts and a few Italian olives to munch on. The rest of the menu looked pretty good. It seems like a mish-mash of comfort foods - all of which I'm looking forward to trying in the VERY near future. If the menu food tastes as good as it sounds, then count on this turning into a 5-star review.

I'm basing this review on one thing - their willingness to host a BYObaby event for new parents who also happen to love beer and love getting out of the house! For the past two months they've hosted this little get together on a Monday afternoon. This is a fabulous idea - they get some business during an off time and get on the good side of many moms in the area. They are so kind to us when we are there, have great happy hour drink specials, and I had a couple good sliders to snack on. I'll support them because they support me getting out of the house to socialize with a baby strapped to my back!

(Preface: Not a vegetarian [or care about your plant-eating brethren]? Skip to Section B now). ~Section 1~ My counterpart and I had heard that Little Tap House had an excellent brunch that was seriously flying under the radar compared to the heavy hitters in town. Excited at the prospect of a new place to eat my favorite meal at, a friend and I met Saturday mid-morning. Let me preface this by admitting she and I are both vegetarians. Our options, therefore, were pretty limited: - The Bloody Mary ($5 on Saturday/Sunday mornings): Was a NO go. They pre-make their bloody mix in the AM and it includes Worcestershire (which, as we know, has anchovies). They will NOT make you a fresh drink without Worcestershire, and since I don't drink fish, I couldn't get a bloody. Huge disappointment here. - Triple Cheese Grits with two eggs ($9): This was pretty much the lone "brunch" type thing we could order. While it's said that the grits are made with smoked cheddar, cheddar curd, and swiss the only things I could really taste was a lot of salt and generic cheese flavoring. Our eggs were cooked great, but... I think without the addition of Sriracha, we would have eaten less than we already had (my counterpart didn't even finish hers). There definitely are other options for vegetarians: house chips with truffle parmesan and beer cheese fondue ($6, but I'm guessing that it's deep fried alongside meats, so that turns me of), cauliflower gratin with - again - beer cheese fondue ($6, what's with all the beer cheese fondue here?), and a grilled cheese (made with cooper sharp, tomato tapenade, and caramelized onions) for example. For me, personally, there's nothing food wise here that excites me. Unfortunately, vegetarians just don't fair well with pub fare, which is essentially what LTH is offering. ~Section B~ What DOES excite me - and what I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE about Little Tap House - is: a) their Bar & Barrel app and draught $5 offering during Happy Hour Monday through Friday. Sure, most of the time it's stuff I can't eat. But every now and then there are gems (recently: tomato bisque with petite grilled cheese paired with "Gose" by Rising Tide Brewing Company, for example); b) every time I've been here the staff has been just VERRRRRRRRRY nice, patient, and accommodating as much as they can be; c) the space and interior decoration... there's A LOT of wood here. And I REALLY like it. I feel like I could be drinking in the Captain's quarter of a fashionable pirate boat (this makes no sense, I'm sure, but... it's just the very unique vibe I get); d) the BYOB (Bring Your Own Baby) events they have for new mom's once a month that encourage they come out AND bring their babe with them. Don't have a kid myself, but damn it if this isn't one of the coolest things any bar in town is doing, then I don't know what is. GOOD ON THEM FOR DOING THIS!!!

I have visited the Little Tap House two times, both for drinks and snacks. I love their choice of beers (a good selection without being overwhelming). The cocktails are fun, too. If you like spicy tequila drinks, I recommend the fresa y fuego. Last night my husband and I enjoyed the outdoor seating, but I like the inside, too. What disappointed me, however, was the lack of service. We sat there for over 10 minutes with empty drinks in hand (I'm not exaggerating) waiting for our waiter to ask us if we wanted another drink or our check. We finally approached the bar to pay. I noticed other reviewers commented on the excellent service so maybe this was an off night? Bottom line: I'll go again, but I would like to see better service.

I went on a friends recommendation for brunch and was overall, underwhelmed. I got the cheese grits with two fried eggs- the eggs were rubbery and hard to cut through the edges with my fork (it sounds unlikely- but I had to use my knife to get through) The grits had a great, smooth texture and rich (if not a bit salty) cheese flavor. The staff was friendly and ensured my coffee mug was never empty. At one point the waitress brought out a cheesy tomato soup shot for us to try and it was lovely. The menu looked great if you're looking for a heavy, comforting, American brunch.

This is an update to my earlier review because we had not experienced the full menu/experience of the little tap room. I have to preface it with the fact that we came here during restaurant week where most establishments turn up the charm and the flavor of the menu but nonetheless our experience here was a very good one. We had a bit of a wait for a Thursday night but with the frigid temps outside I think people were running for cover to get somewhere warm and inviting. We started off with the tasty cheese plate that had three types of cheese on it from fresh and delicious (which I am not normally a fan of) blue cheese and some smoked soft and delicious cheese and a side spoon of honey and a buttery substance. We then done into some pub style onion rings that were topped with an aioli of some sort but were light and delicious. Then my friend dove into a piping hot lamb shepards pie that he said was delicious served in a small crock pot and I had the lightly beer battered haddock sandwich that was covered in small balls of mozzarella cheese I think. It was not your typical pub style fish sandwich that is super greasy and heavy. It was divine!! I then had the delicious profiteroles that were similar to freshly fried dough that came with a side of chocolate sauce and powdered sugar but were to die for and I wanted more ... Quite frankly if my whole meal were these morsels I would have gladly accepted. They had a huge selection of local brews on a separate menu ( little steep in price for the size of glass) but hey I love crafts brews and am willing to dish out for it. Service was spot on where the hostess and the waitress were attentive and super friendly. We would definitely come here again to see what the "normal" fare is like ... Only drawback was the amount of seating but who isn't in that space in downtown Portland right?

I loved this place. Warm, inviting bar. We sat at the bar and had wine , beer and food. Happy hour goes til 7pm they gave us a complimentary shooter of their soup of the night. Carbonara pasta and a turkey burger. Brussel sprouts tossed with goat cheese and croutons were so good.

The Little Tap House is growing on me! It's just around the corner from work so I think I took it for granted for the first few months I was in town and never tried it. Then one night, I was on the spot to choose a place for a friend and I to grab a drink my mind drew a blank (obviously I didn't have Yelp at my fingertips - I know, the horror!). Little Tap House must have come to mind because I pass it every day. Half an hour later, my friend and I were sitting at the bar enjoying our cocktails. We went back just the other night before an event at the State Theatre and had another great experience. I must say that I think the vibe and service at the Little Tap House outshine the food. I've tried the caesar salad and mussels which were meh, okay and the poutine which was stellar and the portions were on the small side for the price. It just seems as though the food is trying really hard to be wonderful but just missing the mark. I don't see The Little Tap House on any of the "hot lists" and I'm not sure it's a destination for foodies, but it's a really great neighborhood place that finds just the right balance between upscale and cozy and that's a perfect combination for me.

Full disclosure, my friend and I were walking from the East End back to her apartment in the West End and she really had to use the bathroom, so we we decided to stop in at Little Tap House to use the bathroom and have a beer. While chatting up some great people at the bar we decided to order a couple snacks. We got the cheese curds and the praline bacon. The praline bacon has to be one of the best tasting things I've ever had. If I only have to eat that rest of my life, I would be completely happy with that. Definitely would recommend stopping here.

4 oz lobster on $19 lobster roll. They took it off the bill. I never complain and I'm in the restaurant business as well so I'm pretty understanding. This place would be lot more busy if they gave bigger portions, they would drink more and stay longer. Too bad they don't get that.

First attempt at brunch: Fail. Their website (at the time) said 10:30 - 3pm, when we arrived there was a sign on their door that said "be back at 11am," so we were very confused, hungry, and annoyed that we had to find another place to eat since we arrived at 10:30 and weren't going to stand around for 30 minutes. Second attempt at brunch: Success-ish. We sat at one of those barrel high tops, I'm sorry guys, but those as tables is the most uncomfortable thing ever. I either had to sit with my legs splayed or my legs crossed and turned to one side. Their brunch menu isn't really brunchy, so if you're looking for eggs benny or a smoked salmon sort of dish, you're out of luck. I have to say though that what we did order for food we loved. I ordered the monte cristo, which was delicious; sweet, salty, and savory. The squeeze ordered "The Beef" which he said he really enjoyed, he seemed super stoked about his maple bacon brittle. I kind of wish I could have gotten something other than chips as my side though, perhaps a small greens salad, as the monte cristo is rather heavy. There was live music which wasn't too loud and went with the flow, and the restaurant as a whole is cozy and inviting. One thing that irked me was that the waitresses and hostesses would clutter together at the bar and were a distraction, especially since they were directly in our line of view. Overall, I think it's an adorable place with a lot of potential, I think they just need to work out a few more kinks.

Biscuits with honey butter and beer while sitting outside on a sunny Sunday? Can't ask for much more. I was pleasantly surprised by this place although it did not have that unique "je ne sais quoi" that my favorite "5 star" restaurants have. I did not go for a meal here but did try the biscuits and honey butter which were AMAZING! Great tap selection as well, mostly local. I liked the atmosphere both inside and out and the high barrel bar tables would be great for a laid-back group gathering. Outside seating perfect for people watching. The menu looked underwhelming but my friend had the poutine which she said was very good. I would be interested to see their brunch menu (favorite meal!)

I come here often but this review is for Portland Restaurant week. I came in because they offered an interesting menu for the Restaurant week. I ordered the fennel soup, lamb shepards pie and the lavendar cookies for dessert. The soup was very bland and lukewarm although, I did enjoy it. I just wished it was hotter. The shepard's pie was amazing, but very tiny. I think I could've eaten 3! The dessert was not ideal. It did not mesh with the menu of warm cozy food that I have come to love from the little taphouse. The cookies were very dry and left little to be desired. Overall it was a solid 3 star experience!

I was surprised to see the good reviews after trying this place. I'm not saying I would never come back because it seems like they have a good happy hour but this was a bad experience for sure. I like the look of it actually. It's a cute neighborhood place but the service and food serious lacked. 1. We came on a Thursday night around 730. Waited 15 minutes for someone to greet us. I'm not exaggerating. I was ready to leave but my boyfriend thought we should stick it out. 2. When our server did come, there was no apology for the wait. 3. We waited just about 25 minutes for our food. We got wings, soup, and a salad. 4. The food was blasé. Soup was the best part. It had a lot of haddock in the chowder. I didn't eat my pear goat cheese salad. And I like poached pear and goat cheese a lot. But the dressing really is not good. It tastes cheap and overly sweet. And it's just not appetizing. The wings were also bland. We got the hot honey. They looked good but Couldn't taste hot or honey. 5. It's ridic loud in here. Like abnormal loud. I'm just unimpressed. I didn't hate anything (well except waiting and not getting an apology kinda) but just thought id like it more than I did. Oh and when our server reappeared at the end of the meal with the check before our plates were even cleared, she never even asked how anything was or why my salad was basically untouched.

Excellent beer selection. I didn't get food but it looked great. Attentive staff and excellent decor. Recommend the beer sampler (I love samplers). Right near the State Theater and art museum. Excellent pre-concert joint.

The atmosphere was great....the food however was bland...appeared to sound like it was fresh...homemade...and delicious but lacked in flavor. The staff appeared depressed and the food and drinks were much more expensive than they were worth. I would not come back.

The service was wonderful at this place. The beer selection was great atmosphere was very friendly and say place where you can come and have a nice conversation with friends. What went wrong was their food for a place like this I expected good bar food you can't screw up on chicken wings but theirs was mushy and over fried. It almost taste like they cook it in the crockpot and just throw some sauce on it. My friend had Thai chili sweet sauce but they gave her buffalo sauce instead. The rest of our burgers and food was okay but I wouldn't go back for food.

Awesome atmosphere! Great happy hour specials and good crowd. Fish chowder is more delicious than words can describe. Pork ribs meat was soft and fell right off the bone. Definitely going back soon!

Warm and welcoming its the kind of neighborhood pub, where the hostess doesn't mind pulling together a couple of tables to accommodate a group. My most recent stop was for after work drinks and apps with friends. BBQ poutine followed by bruschetta, and a cheese selection made for a few of the diverse and tasty appetizers we sampled. As their name suggests this little tap house has an extensive selection of local and craft beers.

I made it here the first day they opened and had been dying to go back. I finally got the opportunity last night, and it didn't disappoint. The beer list had about a dozen on tap, all craft, and all interesting. About half of them I hadn't seen at other restaurants before, so it's a good chance to try something new. My Baxter hit the spot. We ordered duck confit sliders, poutine, crab cakes, bruschetta, wings, garden salads and fries. There wasn't a disappointment in the bunch. The poutine had enough shaved beef to feed two people. I'm dying to go back and try the burger, which I've heard raves about. Prices were cheaper than similar Portland restaurants, and very reasonable for the large portions. The restaurant is much bigger inside than it appears outside. There's oak barrels you can congregate around for drinks, a decent sized bar and regular tables. The service was prompt and atmosphere was lively, even on a Wednesday. I could see this being a weekend happy hour hotspot. Highly recommended.

I came in here for a solo lunch and had mixed feelings about experience. There were three things I expected from The Little Tap House: A cozy atmosphere, a vast selection of great beers, and amazing burgers. The atmosphere was indeed pretty cozy, with beer barrels and lots of wood and brass, but it was HOT. I walked in an immediately stripped down to my t-shirt (I kept my pants on) and carefully chose a seat *not* underneath a vent, as they were blasting out hot, dry air. Still, better hot then cold in the winter, I suppose. The beer selection was fine, but I've seen as good or better at other restaurants that don't bill themselves as a "tap house." There were maybe 15 beers on tap, 6 of which they were out of, including the one I went there to try. The bartender was not really interested in talking to me about the beer or anything else, and was generally a bit awkward. I don't intend to criticize him as a person, but I feel like part of a bartender's job is being a conversationalist, and this fellow wasn't. I had their signature Little Tap House Burger, with fries, of course. It was very good, but not outstanding. The fries were on the soft and soggy side. Let's recap. I wanted a cozy atmosphere. The atmosphere was cozy but had temperature issues. I wanted a ton of great beers to choose from. They had an interesting beer selection, but not enough of one. I wanted an amazing burger. They made me a very good one. I think I should come here again with friends and get more of a pub experience, but as it was, The Little Tap house was just good.

The Little Tap House seems to have ironed out their customer service issues mentioned by other reviewers. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and seated. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive, bringing us water and drinks in a timely fashion. The dinning area is noisy but is to be expected in a room made mostly of brick. We both had the poutine with eggs. My friend requested hers fried, they came out overcooked and rubbery, I requested my eggs poached, they came out grossly undercooked. Eggs aside, the meat and gravy of the poutine was very good. I may try this place again for something other than breakfast.

Decent bar snacks menu, better than decent service, and amazing serving size for a glass of wine during happy hour! Comfortable outdoor seating and the hummus was good. Heard the wings were great. The sweet potato fries weren't quite cooked all the way but overall the meal was good.

I came to The Little Tap House on a busy Friday night and had excellent service! Our waitress, Abby, was a delight. She knew the menu very well and was happy to answer any questions we had. The food was great - I recommended the beer cheese fondu. The atmosphere is calm and casual. Definitely a great spot.

We came here the night of the Belmont Stakes. There was a friendly vibe and drink specials! We had Belmont Jewels-Knob Creek with lemonade and a splash of pomegranate-delicious. The waitress was excellent with just enough attention but not intrusive. We split the highly recommended poutine and it was very good. I had a substantial pulled pork burrito with a small salad. Both were good but the dressing on the salad was very good. My son had a gyros that was good but almost open face. The next weekend I ran into my nephew and his wife on the sidewalk seats and they liked it here too, enjoying Funky Bow Brewery "G String". Very good beer and another review I have to write. Support your local bars and breweries you won't be disappointed in either of these.

This place was a wonderful surprise! The food was all fresh, fresh, fresh! You can tell clean ingredients with killer combos - mushroom ravioli made my pasta-snob partner rave and vouch for it being worth the price. My Rubin was the best I ever had - big slabs of corn beef the sauerkraut was perfect! And, you just can't beat Maine potato fries. Staff was friendly, great ambiance, and full of locals. A perfect hidden gem for any vacationer.

There are very few restaurants that offer the kind of vibe that the Little Tap House has. The staff along with the owner made my meal even more amazing than it already was. Entire meal was made from scratch, flawless. Owner said she was very open to customer wants. That if there was anything we might want on the menu in the future just to let her know. Above and beyond customer service. Highly recommend.

Every time I find myself here (admittedly, at my own suggestion more often than not) I leave underwhelmed. As a bar, this is a pretty good spot. The beer selection is decent, cocktails are pretty good, and the space is never too crowded. It is also super conveniently located and the perfect in-between spot on a night out. Dinner has always been mediocre, never really leaving me wanting more. For the price, I'd love to see dishes that have a little more going on. I've only tried the fish & chips (more fish, less bread please!) and the lobster marsala, which could have been 10 times better with a little extra seasoning. The one time I've been for brunch was decent. On a warm summer day we were able to sit outside, enjoy the warm weather, and experience the best service I've had at LTH. Other experiences with the service here have been consistently weird, for lack of a better word. On multiple occasions, my dining companions and I have been surprised by the attitudes of several different servers. While not specifically rude, there seems to be a general lack of interest in the customer in favor of gathering in a corner to chat with coworkers. In the future, I'll probably stick to drinks and snacks, since that's where this place seems to excel. Perusing the other reviews gives me the sense that the poor service is an ongoing issue, so keep that in mind if you're going for dinner.

Eeeeehhhh... Came in at 7:30ish on a Friday and we were seated outside fairly quickly. Cool bar area inside and great beer list. I was excited about their menu since most of the items were traditional fare with a twist. We got the cheese plate to start. I really liked this even though it wasn't incredibly imaginative but it was a lot of cheese for the price. My husband got a burger and I got the lobster roll for our entrees. My husband thought the burger was fine, but they added avocado even though he didn't ask for it. He got what we think were sweet potato fries on the side, but they were absolutely bizarre. The texture was really unappetizing and they were fairly bland. It was sincerely one of the strangest fries I've ever eaten. On the side of the my lobster roll, I got the blue cheese cole slaw which I wasn't a huge fan of and some bland brussels sprouts. The best part of both of our meals was that our sandwiches came on challah rolls which were pretty great. The bread to start the meal was also awesome. Service was horrible. Our waitress was nice enough, but it took FOREVER to get our check and my husband also ordered a second beer that never materialized. We heard other patrons grumbling about how they hadn't gotten their appetizer that they ordered a while before and they were also waiting forever for simple drinks (wine and beer). Needless to say, I probably wouldn't be back. The food has potential, but nothing was a big hit and service sucked.

A nice surprise as we walked from our B & B. The local beers are excellent and we could see the horseradish swimming in the Bloody Mary! But the best was the grilled cheese sandwich. It is not your mothers grilled cheese!! A farmers cheese panini with grilled onions! Staff personable and fun!

I want to give this place more stars due to the great local beer selection on tap, and the excellent service, but the food is pretty weak. And the place is tiny- even by Portland standards. Good for a after work craft beer, but that's about it.

I've been here 4 times so thought I should give some feedback. Here's the good news: the local beer selection is good, nice atmosphere, nice staff and sometimes good live music. Here's the bad news; 75% of the time the food is not that great. Anyhow, a good little tap house, good for a beer with friends.

Great space and music, felt open. Ordered the beer flight and loved so many local choices. Salt and vinegar chips were decent and flavorful as a starter. I had the hamburger which was huge! Such a good choice! My companion had the fish and chips which was also great though fish pieces on the smaller side. Definitely worth the trip!

Disappointed but I came in with high expectations. Kudos to the lovely hostess who made sure we were seated on a busy First Friday Art Walk night. The bartender was also very gracious and was happy to help me make a decision with my beer choice. My disappointment came from our server and the food was underwhelming. I think this guy belongs in a more mainstream sports bar type of establishment and constantly referred to us as "ladies" which makes my skin crawl. We chose 3 appetizers in lieu of an entree and prices were out of sync for what we got. $12 for poutine that was terrible? The beef slider I thought would be a hamburger - it was the same pot roast swimming in the poutine gravy. The hot and Thai Buffalo wings were good though but not enough celery or carrots. There was beef mixed in with the gravy, not enough fries and no melted cheese. I lived in Montreal. I know poutine. Even The Bag at Sugarloaf has better poutine and my friend raved about some poutine she had in Burlington, VT citing the cheese as the piece de resistance. Our server also took away the beer menu halfway through the meal and yet we wanted another round. I did appreciate the 2nd beer being taken off the bill since it tasted exactly like cough syrup. We also felt very rushed, a waitress attempted to serve us another party's meals and our server had no idea why it was so busy and I actually had to prompt him that it was First Friday and still I heard crickets chirping. Wouldn't the staff know about this huge event being steps away from Congress Street and the Portland Museum of Art? If I want a sports bar experience, there are plenty of other, less expensive options available and would prefer service that is more engaging and happy to serve.

We dropped in for an early dinner and to meet a friend after work. The location is a corner brick building with wooden floors, oak whiskey / wine barrel tables and a nice bar. The beer selection is large but not overwhelming. Expect to find a nice selection of local craft brews on draft across a number of styles and a few national favorites as well. The wine list is good and not overpriced. Service is good but could use some polish, i.e. multiple trips back and forth for forgotten items, meal not all brought out at once, etc. Service is friendly but could work a little harder at what they do. No complaints, just could be more efficient in getting the food on the table and the meal up and running. The food is very good. I enjoyed the salmon filet. My companions had the salmon plate (slices of salmon with crispy bread) and a burger. The report on the burger was excellent. It looked and tasted great. The salmon filet was prepared very well and served atop a bed of tasty white beans. I would order it again with no hesitation. Prices are what you would expect for this level of food and drink. Its not cheap but you probably wont have to refinance your place to settle the bill. The crowd was mostly a beer loving middle aged after work set meeting up for a drink or a beer. Parking is on street. Bring change for the meters. Service 3 stars. Atmosphere 3 stars. Food 4 stars. A nice choice and a satisfying meal.

Beyond their fab local beer selection, there's not much that differentiates this place from other trendy spots. Except maybe the abysmal servers. I've got lots of serving/bartending notches on my belt and can't quite believe how lack-luster and downright rude some of the servers are here. I also come from the land of frowning hipster servers/bartenders - a la San Francisco - so it's never a shock to me to be served with attitude. However, I've been to LTH ~ 6-7 times and yet to have anything nice to say about the service. Hope it improves!

Pretty psyched great selection of beers awaits!!! We get there open the front door place is packed good sign. Then bam, that bar stench hits you! You know the one I'm talking about straight up stale beer stench. We head to the bar order our beers. Our pours had that please clean my tap lines now taste. We peruse the menu and decide on Mussels and Tartare, salmon tartare that is! A half hour later our apps arrive, if you cook for a living you know what I'm talkin about here. When the mussels sit in that vessel you store them in on the line after you cleaned them 3 days earlier and they develop that black grey quadraphonic funk juice. Make enough of that #$%& for your self, if you won't eat it why should I??? Yo pantry boy, it's not onion tartare it's salmon tartare. Put some salt and acid to dem onions to soften their bite or wait how bout some of dem chives minced instead of dat #&^^@#$! chive garnish? Avocado mousse should be vibrant green! Toast points were da bomb diggity though! Prior proper planning prevents piss poor performance! Spread dat word! Hey Chef, here is an idea, check out erybody"s meis! Portland you and da hipsters are starting to try tooo hard! The wheel is already round just make that mother go faster!

This was my third visit to LTH. My first two visits were very pleasant. The food is a bit pricey, but it's also quite delicious. (See: Fish&Chips) The service has never been exceptional, but this night in particular it was non existent. I ordered my beer, took a minute with the menu, decided on my order and then I sat there waiting to order while the couple, who sat after me, ordered beer and food. The bartender seemed unsure if he had taken my order and I could have piped up, but I was curious as to how he would handle the situation. He had offered me a food menu, but never followed up. Seems like a bad practice in a restaurant, no? He asked if I "wanted any more" when my beer was gone at which point I was not compelled to spend more money here. I was initially greeted by a very pleasant woman and I wish she had served me. My experience turned a full 180 degrees when the bartender arrived. I agree with a previous review that a bartender should be personable and engaging and in this case was neither. LTH has some good things going for it, but at this price point service is the #1 factor and it's not consistent.

The Poutine was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. Salty fires, soft cheese and tender meat- mmm! They have a great beer selection including Maine beer company. I love the atmosphere here and the cavernous wine cellar like look is a nice touch.

I do not recommend this restaurant. Went there for happy hour listed on their website only to find a very very limited number of items actually offered at a happy hour price. Their advertising felt intentionally misleading. We went ahead and ordered entrees that were bland and overpriced . The personnel were friendly and helpful, but based on this one experience I would not go back.

Came for lunch, received the incorrect meat on my burger, I ordered turkey, husband ordered lamb, I got lamb, he got turkey. After we told the waitress we weren't even comped one cent. We were actually charged for getting ranch dressing. Our waitress was outside sweeping, then came in and served food without washing her hands. Disappointing experience.

My husband and I decided to check this place out after hearing some good reviews about the food. We showed up for an early Friday night dinner, so thankfully there wasn't a wait for a table. I ordered a beer off the menu, just my luck- all sold out. The waitress did know her stuff and recommended a red ale that was delicious. We ordered the poutine to start. If I could rate this single dish it would get 10 stars. Amazing. We both ordered the fish and chips and were really excited based on the appetizer. While waiting about 25 min from ap being served to main course we weren't checked in on. Instead we got to watch the "floorshow." We were seated against a wall near the hostess station, I was facing a mirror. I got to watch a lady, who I assume was some type of manager based on her patterned short dress amid a sea of black clad servers, repeatedly check herself in the mirror. I'm talking multiple times in a 2 min span, plus a more serious hair flip and check each time she used the cut through as a way to avoid the busy bar area. First it was amusing, then annoying, and finally, so obnoxious I just wanted to leave. Never once did she smile at or acknowledge any customer she passed. Makes for an uncomfortable dinner atmosphere. Finally the food came ( not delivered by our server, an odd service decision) We were each served 2 large haddock filets on a pile of fries. We had asked for no coleslaw or tarter sauce since it would just be a waste. We both had large servings of both we had to remove from our plates. My husband took his first bite- I should have known to not even bother based on the look on his face. Silly me, I tried it myself.... Super greasy- I'm talking grease dripping out when we cut into it. Inedible. My husband is a server himself, in the 10 years we've been together we have never sent food back, ever. I'm hesitant to say that we will try this spot again, but maybe. That poutine with braised beef might be enough to lure us back, but just for the ap. We'll hit the Congress St Bar and Grill around the corner for dinner, just like we did tonight.
