4.5 stars but i'll round it to 5 cuz the staff (owners perhaps) were so nice and totally remembered us as regulars and cuz of the outside patio my pup could sit at our table with us. Today we had dinner after the festival and since we were out with Paris we opted for patio seating and Jamaican coconut curry and oxtail sounded awesome. Portions are generous and both plates were perfect. The patio was really clean. Only down sides are its kind of bistro style so we had to get up to go inside to get our drinks or water. And although i prefer the patio i did notice there is very little iindoor seating and they could not accommodate large groups. And no desert bummer.. But right near the movie theater and a short walk home..

Federal Spice is one of Portland's hidden gems and therefore attracts mostly locals. This is the only place I can go to with nothing specific in mind, confident that there will be a delicious special on the board to try. I used to work around the corner so I've eaten here about ten times, and I'm never let down.

Really too bad, this place has potential but other than the owner the other staff member seemed lazy and did not have the basic skills to put together a burrito. Often the burrito come out falling apart and with limited flavor. This place needs a revamp and staff need training in basic preparation.

This place has great wraps and quesos...I love the chips too. The portions are really generous...you will not leave hungry. They also have beers on tap and lots of other beverages to choose from. The cook is always trying new things and coming up with new spins on his menu and salsa or guac. He's super fast and really cares about each dish he's creating. Groups will have more room upstairs. There's also outdoor seating in nice weather and it's a nice atmosphere with all the plants and lighting out there.

Excellent food every time I've been. Been coming here for over 8 years and the food has always been top notch. Extremely tasty and flavorful wraps. Try the specials!

Federal Spice is located in Portland Maine and is a small kinda eccentric looking sandwich shop specializing in fresh whole wheat wrap sandwiches. When you first walk in you kinda feel like you're at a beach side reggae party with all the tropical colors and Bob Marley decor on the walls. Unfortunately, the food is not as exciting. The Tortilla Chips are one of the better items and while I was eating I saw plenty of people come and just grab a bag of those to go. They are fried crispy and served with a fresh made salsa that is not like your usual Mexican salsa ( I'm pretty sure there was no cilantro) but more like canned ripe tomatoes with some hot peppers thrown in and not much else. The Salsa was good and kinda sweet, not bad, just different from what I'm used to. For my Wrap I ordered a cold Thai BBQ Chicken Wrap. It was packed full of fresh crunchy cabbages, carrots and cool cucumber with a Lite, almost Teriyaki like dressing with small pieces of diced up chicken. There was only a little bit of the chicken but the little I had was decent flavor and was tender. I just wanted more meat. Simone was not a fan of her wrap. A hot wrap, It was supposed to be roasted eggplant with other vegetables, but the filling was cooked so much that it had the consistency of oatmeal, was rather bland and quickly soaked through the wrap. She ended up using some of the tortilla chips to scoop up the vegetable oatmeal concoction. I wish this place had been better as it does have a cool hip vibe, and the people working are friendly, but the food is borderline average at best and not something I would go out of my way for. 2.5 stars

Nice jamaican food. The wrap was very good. As was the brown stew chicken and oxtail. We went specifically to Portland to eat here on our way to old orchard beach. Definitely would go back again.

Price: $4-$8 average for wraps. Food: Wraps, different types. Sweet Potato Fries could have been double fried to give it more crispiness, otherwise it was good! (1 extra star because they have Sweet Potato Fries). Wraps on the other hand, eh-ok. Kinda bland. Not as much flavor as it sounded. Mango Tilapia: Couldn't taste the Mango flavor. Very little TIlapia. Lots of Rice which had no flavor. Sesame Chicken: Chicken was dry. There was "thai" like peanut sauce mixed in, but very little & couldn't taste it as much. Overrall: Would go back for Sweet Potato Fries. Pass on the wraps. Downtown location, I'm surprised they were open for lunch on a Saturday.

This is a really fun and comfortable place. The food is all delicious and varied, as the chef tries out great new ideas. The owners truly care about the food and people they serve. The prices are beyond reasonable. Good selection of beers. Nice outdoor seating, good music. Oh yes, I would classify it more Jamaican than Mexican. Went there last night to a private birthday celebration and they put on a delicious buffet. They did this despite the fact they are closed weekends. Make sure to give it a try...it will become a "regular"!

Go here.....now! Great wraps with good flavor and veggie soups that are very tasty. I always get the rice and bean jerk chicken wrap and am never disappointed or hungry afterwards. It's under $6, has a good ratio of beans & rice to chicken and never falls apart when I'm eating it. I recently started trying their soups and they are all stellar. My favorite is the vegetarian chili that is loaded with beans and sweet potato chunks. Never eaten inside the place but when you get your order to go they dump a handful of tortilla chips in your carry out bag which is cool. I would walk by here everyday to and from work for 2 years and the owner was always there early till late at night getting stuff done. I like those type of places where the people really care about the product that they are putting out. Go support these guys and you won't regret it.

I've only ever gotten their specials and they have all been fantastic. Well priced for the amount of food you get and I love the fact that the specials are always revolving. Service is friendly even when they are packed at lunch time during the work week. Definitely a place to check out.

We go here at least once a month - they have fabulous sweet potato fries and a yummy blackened catfish wrap. Totally recommend before a movie which is right around the corner. Funky small, casual inside and great outside patio in warm weather. It's nice to have a place that has been around for years!
