Stayed for only one night, but what a glorious night it was! Liz was so accommodating, our room was lovely, and we were instantly relaxed. Pros: - amazing hospitality from the staff - working fireplace in the room - comfy, cozy rooms and bed - cool billiards room in the basement that was actually a speakeasy during the prohibition - delicious breakfast with lots of fresh fruit. Choice of two menu items (sweet or savory), both come with bacon and were cooked to order. Cons: - the bathroom, while updated and new, was a stand up stall and had minimal pressure - we showed up 3 times to check in, but no one was available the first two times, and had to drive around town and wait it out before returning again. Despite the cons, we had a wonderful stay, which is a testament to how lovely and comfortable the inn was. I will definitely be back here!

Exactly what you think of when you think 'Inn'. Very quaint, super polite service, nice low key breakfasts. Rooms are nicely appointed. It is an 'inn' and the building is several hundred years old so you can hear just about everything that goes on through the walls and doors, but there are only nine rooms so it is not that big of a deal. It loses a star because the baths need updating.

This was our second choice location as our first choice was sold out and they sent us here. The common areas are the nicest part of the Inn. Our room, while spacious, was awkward. The TV was clearly an afterthought and located in the corner of the room. There were no bedside tables so any reading material had to be left on the floor. The chairs for sitting were in a place that made it impossible to watch TV, so you had to move the furniture around to make it all work. The bathroom was in need of an update and the shower drain was problematic on the first day. When we booked our reservation, we were clear that we are vegan so that certain accommodations can be made for breakfast. On the first morning of our breakfast the kitchen told us that they had no rice or soy milk and toast and fruit were our options. We ended up going out for breakfast. The wifi is spotty and the signal goes in and out. We did have a discussion with the inn and upon our return that evening, the drain in our bathroom was fixed and we were assured that our breakfasts on the following mornings would address our needs. So on the positive side, the inn did fix the bathroom drain and the following days we had rice milk and very nice breakfasts. The manager was very responsive and attentive once she was aware of the problems. However, similar to one other review, for the price paid this was a disappointing experience. Considering we had to spend $25 for breakfast offsite on the first day , I would have expected a little more from them.

Stayed three nights in their "most romantic room" in order to explore Portland. A very comfortable place with nice bedding and unique rooms and decorations. Common spaces were fancy, perhaps too fancy for comfortably just hanging out. The bathroom was nice, but the tub was nothing special. The breakfasts were very "foodie" with a focus on plating. They were good, but again not extraordinary.

Cool house for a B&B... with lots of character. Unfortunately our room wasn't what we'd expected. We had reserved two rooms with a bath between them. One room was tight for just the bed, and the other bed was ON THE FLOOR. So glad the person taking that room was able to get up and down off the floor. Did like their sitting areas they had. But all in all not impressed ~ we won't be back.

I stayed here on a vacation recently. The room was huge and comfortable; and, if I'm not mistaken, recently renovated. The staff were very cheerful and helpful. They recommended a number of good restaurants and bars, and all of their recommendations that I tried were outstanding. It may be a little pricey, but if you can afford to stay here it's worth the money.

It was a dark and stormy Friday night when we checked into the Danforth. It was pitch black as we turned into the street (lost of course - we couldn't find the parking lot). When we finally did find it, the inn kind of gave me goosebumps -- it felt like a scene from a horror movie. As we approached the side entrance, the door slowly opened.... It was the sweet hostess. As we entered through the long hallway, the feeling of warmth just surrounded us. "Tea and cupcakes will be served here in an hour", as she pointed to the parlour. She led us upstairs to where the bedrooms were. Since we were one of the first people to arrive, all of the doors were opened so I was able to check out the decor of some of the other rooms. Each just as unique and interesting as the one beside it. We stayed in Room 10. It was very cute...it had a fireplace, though a non functioning one, was still cute. Room 10 is very cozy. Our bed was large. Bathroom was immaculate. There wasn't a TV in the room either -- that was certainly a first for us. We actually had to talk to one another rather than sit and watch hours of the Simpsons in silence. Breakfast was actually surprisingly good, and the staff were very nice and accommodating. Lunch @ Duckfat. Dark and Stormy night. Dinner @ Hugo's. The Danforth = one perfect romantic getaway.

My wife and I stayed at the Danforth this past September for our honeymoon and from the time we called in our reservations, the service was phenomenal. I'd originally reserved their smallest room due to budget constraints, but after determining that it was not available for the duration of our stay, we were upgraded to a honeymoon suite for the same price for the entire length of our stay. The staff was unbelievably polite, and perfectly balanced providing quality service with giving us plenty of room for privacy. The breakfast provided each morning was some of the best food we had in Portland - no small feat considering the area. The Innn is well located on the edge of the arts district and more commercial area. You can park your car in the Danforth's private lot, and you may never need to move it; Portland is extremely walkable. If you are looking for a peaceful, beautiful, and interesting place to stay in Portland, I cannot recommend the Danforth Inn enough. I'd tell you more, but I don't want to ruin the fun of discovering all the fun little quirks for yourselves.

I have to travel a good bit for personal reasons. As such, the common hotels lack personal charm and personal connections that B&Bs provide. The Danforth Inn separated itself, a head taller than other B&Bs in the small touches and details that accompany B&B stays. I was tickled by the eclectic styles of decor, made comfortable by the friendly staff. One would expect the staff to know the area well, and Brett in particular gave us restaurant recommendations that were outstanding in their experiences. Being a foodie, I was not disappointed in the breakfast, personal menus was an excellent touch. Being a foodie in a town populated with enterprising foodies? Heaven. Having a guide to wend thru the over 360 excellent restaurants, and then make reservations for us? priceless. Perhaps it was sheer dumb luck combined with a snow storm in the teeth of winter but our stay was beyond our expectation of a getaway. I resent having to leave, as I wish to stay another day, or 10 for that matter. I can understand why there are multi month reservations for this place and for many of the eateries. You will thank yourself deeply for staying here. Grab your CC and book it now.

Nice bed and breakfast in a great location. We enjoyed the hospitality provided by Holly (presumed inn owner). Check in was a breeze thanks to the welcome email instructions. Our price for the 3rd floor king room with fireplace was true value with a Jetsetter deal. We easily could have paid twice as much and been satisfied. The bed was two twins pushed together though, be forewarned. It was still very comfortable with down pillows and comforter. The bathroom was stocked with wonderful smelling soaps and lotions. I also really loved the glass doorknobs everywhere. Breakfast was relaxing, with a choice of entrees. The cornmeal scone starter and choice of organic teas really hit the spot. The best part of this inn was the location. Street parking was free and ample. It was also only a half mile to the heart of Old Port.

We recently got to squeeze in an overnight in Portland and were so excited that the Danforth had a room for our one night stay. I know most inns have minimum stay requirements and was very appreciative that the this was not the case at the Danforth, or that we were just able to fill a night for them. Either way, I'm so glad they accommodated our one night stay. The inn is beautiful! Our breakfast was so fabulous that I left giddy from my culinary delight. We stayed in the Monument Square room and it was great. There is a little view of the harbor from one of the windows which was a surprise bonus. The room was clean, pretty, had a great bathroom, and a huge closet! I hope they have air conditioning in the summer because I think it would be stifling up there in the summer months. I hope we have a chance to come back soon. I'd love to explore more of the inn and actually get to know the staff.

A quaint place to stay away from the main strip of restaurants and shops but within walking distance- about 15 minutes. The staff was extremely welcoming and went above and beyond in every aspect. They even cleaned the snow off of our car before we left in the morning! Breakfast was delicious. A real treat it was to stay at the Danforth. Highly recommend!

It simply does not get any better than this! The Inn was exquisite. Staff were outstanding in every way! The food was some of the finest food I have been served at a B&B, and the restaurant was simply perfect! Our room was upgraded at no charge as the Inn was not full. It was clean and very well appointed. Everything was perfect. There was a working fireplace, however, my only complaint was you were not allow to burn real wood, you had to use fake logs (and they smell funny when they burn) but that was very minor. The Inn was just a half mile from downtown, we walked everywhere. We can't say enough about how wonderful this place was and at a very good price, granted we were there in the off season.

I'm a total novel writer; complete review is below, but here's some bullets for those who don't have patience for that sort of thing: *Super helpful and kind staff *REAL (not gas) working fireplace!! *Renovated bathroom *Website has wonderful detailed pictures of each room- room is true to pics *Billiards! *Short walk from downtown- awesome walking city *Super cozy *Yummy breakfast *Lovely cupola and common rooms with tea and keurig 24 hrs *No 3 prong outlets! My bf and I have each been to Portland once and enjoyed it, so we decided to get out of dodge and, after perusing Yelp/TripAdvisor, thought the Danforth Inn looked nice. I usually want either a jacuzzi or fireplace in the room, and jacuzzi tends to win because everyone has those lame gas fireplaces, but Danforth had a real one! Also, we are not very frivolous folk, and the prices were quite reasonable. Danforth won. We got there in the late afternoon and were greeted by Holly, who was very sweet and showed us around. We had just come from having lunch with my relatives two hours away and I had gotten flowers for my birthday- Holly was super helpful finding a vase and scissors so I could get them set up in our room. There was a small parking lot in the back (by the way, it seems really easy to park just about anywhere in Portland- something I can't say for Boston), and the door was locked, but had a very simple code. I read a review where the person was upset the door was locked and there was a rehab facility next door, but it was not an issue whatsoever. There was a cupola you could climb up to to look out over the city and several cute common rooms with tea and a Keurig (yay!). Our room was number 9, I believe; "Monument Square". It was very cozy, had a newly renovated bathroom with one of those wide shower heads, which I love, and a tv, which we didn't use much, but definitely was nice to have seeing as how Denver was playing SD yesterday. There was also a huge closet with comfy robes that were utilized later on. I also dug the layout of the room. The bed was against a wall that separated the bathroom and closet from the main room and two other walls were windows. There's nothing I hate more than trying to get away for the weekend and having to listen to other people talk or, god forbid, children crying- not that that would happen here, as its all set up for adults only :-D. On our way out for the evening we noticed there were freshly baked chocolate chip cookies left out on the first floor, such a nice touch! We walked to Old Port for wine and then explored the city a bit (nothing lively, it was 6:30 on a Sunday evening), and finally stopped at Ri Ra Irish Pub for a couple brews before heading to Street and Co. for lobster. It was great that we could walk there from the Inn, another pro of Portland. The inn is off to the side of the downtown area, nice and quiet, but still just a short walk away. Went back and poured some wine and went downstairs to play billiards. It must have been around 9:45 and there was no sign in front of the door. Around 11pm the inn keeper came down to let us know they'd be closing up the room soon, as the inn keepers' bedrooms are right next to the billiards room. We vacated immediately and there was a sign at the top of the stairs saying they closed the room at 10pm. We felt bad for keeping her up, so it might be a good idea for them to put the sign up earlier. We went back upstairs and lit up the fireplace. It was a Duraflame log, which I guess some people don't like, but I grew up with those and it was real fire and put off heat, so I was pumped. The bed was super comfy and clean and I slept great- sometimes you go to hotels and the bed is too firm or its just not what you're used to and you stay awake tossing and turning all night, but not so at The Danforth. I'm not a morning person and breakfast (included in our stay) is 8:30-9:30. We got down there around 9:25 and it appeared everyone had come and gone and the tables had been cleaned, but the inn keeper set us up anyways, which I appreciated. As a former waitress, I know how it feels to have people come in as you're closing up shop, and it was awesome of her to still serve us. We got an orange, two plums, and a blueberry muffin to start. Let me tell you, I don't usually love blueberry pastries, and I don't say this lightly, but this was the most amazing blueberry muffin I have ever eaten, and the boyfriend agreed. We then had a choice between cheese omelet or buttermilk pancakes with sausage, and both opted for the pancakes. It was that kind of weekend. They were quite small but delicious and more than filling; I was stuffed. The sausage was par for the course. We also got OJ and our pick of tea or coffee. Check out was 11am and we were given a coupon for $30 off a future stay! We were able to leave our car there while we hiked around the city, went to the park, and had lunch at Duck Fat. All in all a great stay, I got everything I expected and was very

Ouch. If you have ANY taste at all, this place stinks! First, it's not in the best area of Portland, and it's not even easily walkable to the heart of the main areas. Other than the main room downstairs, which has some charm (and was pleasant to sit in and relax) this place is a total dump. The bathrooms need to be blown out and totally redone (we saw several rooms, hoping the next would be better than the one assigned to us). The shower was reminiscent of a truck stop. The rooms are nothing special, although our room did have a king size bed (along with a TV smaller than my iPhone). The front "garden" was completely dead, and the second floor "garden deck" was more like a graveyard for plants. Horrible. The fireplace in our room was not usable (ever heard of a gas unit, with remote control?). Exposed wires dripping from the mini-TV on the wall. There was ONE tiny closet and a dresser with three inch deep drawers. I wear extra large clothes. Soap dispenser was rusty, along with rusted (stained?) floor tiles - totally bizarre. Moreover, this place isn't cheap - for the price, I expect better service, nicer bathrooms, less chipped paint on the exterior, and plants that are actually "alive." Oh, and as my wife adjusted the make up mirror, it came OFF the wall (and didn't light up - broken). The cheap plastic soap holder in the shower kept falling off, crashing to the floor. This is a classic example of lazy, uncaring "management" (and I'll use that term loosely). Turn down service? We had to do that ourselves. Someone that stays there overnight? Think again. Huge disappointment. I will give them some credit, as the breakfast was beautifully presented, and the coffee hot and tasty. But cheese stuffed French toast with sausage? Ever heard of cholesterol? The jazz band on Thursday evening was enjoyable to listen to, and that was a special touch. Still, lots of missteps here, with some cute furnishings downstairs; not enough for a return visit by any stretch.

Fabulous inn!! My husband and I stayed there this past weekend for a wedidng in Portland. It's about a half mile from the "downtown" area of Portland, which makes for a brief walk to the area for dinner or drinks, but also puts it in a quiet residential area for sleeping/staying. The inn is BEAUTIFUL - the rooms are gloriously appointed with fine furniture and art, and all together avoids the country "kitsch" of many B&Bs. This inn is comfortable with great historical details, but also fresh and modern. The staff was beyond accomodating and friendly. My only regret was that we only stayed one night. We'll definitely go back.

My fiance and I stayed here for one night over MLK weekend, and we really loved it. The entire house is very pretty and romantic. We loved our room (including our very comfy bed!), and the sitting areas were also lovely. The breakfast was delicious -- probably some of the best pancakes I have ever tasted. The Danforth Inn describes itself as "luxury accommodations for the independent traveler" and that's exactly what it feels like. Located in the residential West End area of Portland, the Danforth is an old mansion that has 10 bedrooms (each with its own bath and fireplace) and five common sittings areas, including a Prohibition-era billiards room in the basement and the Peach Porch which has a small take-what's-there-leave-something-behind-bar. There's also an amazing cupola at the top of the mansion that has terrific views of the city from all sides. There's a butler's pantry with bagels and cereals, and fridges on all floors to store any of your own food. Fresh coffee and tea are available each morning (starting at 5am!) We stayed here with a small child and felt completely comfortable coming and going, and making the house our own. We saw two other couples in passing over our two day stay, and ran into the owner, her 15-month-old twins, and two small dogs. It almost felt like the entire place was ours. This is a really special place to spend some time.

Large comfortable rooms with modern conveniences in a historical setting. Breakfast was sub par. The breakfast portions were small and average. In fact on our final day we were served half a waffle. Would stay here again, but probably go out for breakfast. No turn down service. For the price the amenities were lacking!

This beautiful and charming inn was our home for three nights over the New Years Eve holiday. This is a modern yet comfortable space and a great value. Every room in the Inn is tastefully decorated (Pottery Barn style), clean, airy, and comfortable. There are several great shared spaces (a lounge on each floor; a really fun billiards room in the basement). The rooms are large and ours had a wood burning fire place. The bathrooms were large too and although not quite up to the same level of decor as the rest of the inn, were more than adequate for our needs. Perhaps what stood out to us the most was the service which I thought was top notch. The staff were very eager to please and made us feel very at home. We appreciated such high level of service over the holiday weekend. There is free WiFi for guests. The breakfasts are a nice treat, better than what you might find at your average bed and breakfast. The Danforth has an ideal location in my view; just a few blocks off the path in a relatively quiet side of town but an easy stroll into the Old Port area and to other areas with dining and culture. We can't wait for a reason to return to the Danforth.

This was a great place to stay. Very romantic atmosphere. The rooms are fantastic. The rooms were thoroughly cleaned each day of our stay. The breakfast was very good both days we stayed. I would agree it is not really walking distance to the dowtown area. For $7 including tip a taxi service took us downtown. Ask for "Big Adam"
