Maybe I'm just a simple guy, but I love these small hole in the wall bars. Great service and prices each time I have stepped foot in this classic Old Port bar. Lot's of Sugarloafer's go here!

Went here Tuesday night for a beer with a friend - very non-descript place. Female bartender was very pleasant. Came again with two other friends on Thursday night - 4/4/13. There were 2 other people in the place and the bartender (white haired old geezer) was an asshole. From the moment I said hello to him till I left. Will NEVER go back to that hell-hole. Too many other places in Portland to go to!

So. I give this four stars full well knowing that it's a dive bar and an alkie bar, but I love those places when I find them. To be honest, I really only ended up here because me and my fiance were wayyy too early for J's (like an hour) and needed to use the bathroom. And the only place open at 10:15 on a Saturday morning was this place. Hooray! And I didn't feel right using the head without buying something--and they had Sea Dog drafts for two bucks. Hooray! Hooray! I can imagine it quickly devolving into the scene Liz D. mentioned, but I don't mind it so much when I can get a decent cheap draft (I miss the Evos Arts Institute in Lowell, with $2.25 Moosehead and live music after about eight!) to wash down breakfast with. If I move to Portland (and I'm hoping it'll be soon), I'd definitely go back. Pretty clean for a dive. The woman behind the bar was nice and two guys at the bar (who seemed like retirees and cabbies on their off days) were all right, kept to themselves. I don't think the fiance will be back, though. Not a bar fan. Her loss, I guess.

Lobster roll was the best we've had - ever. Simple and no-nonsense. Bar service was excellent.

Stopped in randomly for a quick bite to eat. Somewhat taken aback by the appearance and smell... not turned off but not what we expected. A local dive bar with a long history... not sure what to expect from the food we ordered and waited. Bartender was super sweet and very attentive. The lobster panini was the most delicious thing I have ever had. It was on the special menu and she said it changed daily, that was a good thing to hear in my opinion. The side salad was awesome and we were told fresh veggies from the farmers market. Veggie soup looked home cooked, too. Really good. Highly recommend this for a good and affordable bite to eat!

100% best bar staff in the city of Portland... A must for all travelers to the old port

Fantastic bar with awesome wait staff. I have stopped into this little hole in the wall off and on for the last 20 some odd years. No matter how long I have been away I always feel welcome which is nice because it certainly is a neighborhood bar. I have had food here a few times and it has always been quite good - comfort food for the soul! It certainly can get lively at night but that's nice too as I have never seen anyone get out of hand Overall, a comfortable and down to earth place to enjoy a great selection of beers!

Since Commercial St. Pub is on the top ten dive bars in Portland, ME list, I thought it would be good place to start a Friday night out on the town. Good choice. Ample selection of craft beers (including Goose Island) and friendly bartender. I was only there for a beer and then we were off to other venues, but I'm up to paying it a visit some other time.

It's hard to describe Commercial St. Pub. A few reviews say it's divey but it isn't really. It just felt like I time traveled back to a bar or pool hall from the 80's. There are plenty of TV screens, a pool table and some electronic games. The staff was great. Food was just OK. During lunch there are a lot of older locals like fisherman, construction workers, etc. It's an interesting experience. :)

Best bartenders in Portland and best place to get a cold beer on Saturday Great lobster roll and a Shipyard beer.

Went to the Old Port for anniversary, it was pouring rain so we stopped in to get out of the rain, the place is as described in other reviews, a locals hang out. The staff was very friendly as we sat in a cushy chair and ordered a few drinks. A few stares from the locals but no big thing. Being somewhat hungry we decided to try a few menu items and we were pleasantly surprised by how everything tasted, you could tell the soups were home-made and fantastic. Daily specials change each day so will have to come back and try something else. If you only go there to drink your missing out on some tasty food

Commercial St. Pub is an odd little bar that reminds me of being in someone's cozy living room...complete with comfy couches, end tables, and odd orthopedic-esque bar stools. Bartenders are friendly and the drinks are dirt cheap here. We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food, but Commercial St. Pub is definitely a worthy rest stop if you're walking down the street and seeking a quick round.

As mentioned before, this is a neighborhood dive bar so it gets 4 stars for a dive bar, not 4 stars because it has the best food in town. I actually have never ordered food here, nor have I personally seen anyone else eat here, but there is a kitchen and a special board out front so food is available, at least at times. Otherwise this is a decent place, great draught selection for any bar and of course they have PBR on there:). I can only assume that at night things get a little wilder as they have not only a chilled Jagermeister shot machine but they also haves a chilled Patron and Dr. McGillicuty's shot machine. It definitely feels like a neighborhood bar but every time I have been here I always feel welcome. and when my husband and I can have 7 beers (combined) for only $15.75, you can't complain about much. Probably the most affordable place for a veer in the Old Port. 9 tvs so if there's a game on that you want to watch, you're sure to see it on at least one of their screens. They also have a juke box and pool table. The decor is a little dated but that kind of adds to the ambiance. If you go, make sure you check out the list of people never allowed back in the place, and try and keep your name off it.

This is a bar but certainly not a dive bar. I mean, look at the beers on tap.

These stars are reserved strictly for the lunch served at C Street. Pork chops like I've never experienced. (Threw my manners out the window and ate mine like ribs)

It's a plain Jane pub with $4 pints, a haunted pool table, NON-erotic photo hunt and drunken fishermen. Two things to note: - Mataebia rocked FIRST PLACE in numerous bar games. You just can't stop the heat. Especially when nobody else played Jungle Hunt, Diamond Scrum or anything involving proper spelling. - Clean bathrooms! Seriously. Like, never used clean. Damn.
