Mind you, we're talking about American Chinese here in Maine, which I consider comfort food. It gets five stars from me based on how it compares with similar local places that deliver, not with the rest of the incredible food scene going on in Portland and surrounding areas. After a rather intense medical procedure, I found myself immobile and in desperate need of just this sort of food to rid me of the trauma, so I decided to give them a try. I ordered a Pu Pu platter for one and a house fried rice. (It was that kind of day.) Even though it was peak delivery time, the food arrived very quickly. The delivery guy was really nice. The food was not only still really warm, but everything that was supposed to be crisp was crisp and all the chicken (apart from the crispy wings) was velveted very well, which I'd never noticed enough around here to actually think about it. The Pu Pu platter for one was very generous and the house fried rice had a ton of other things in it besides rice. It was an orange color I'd never seen in fried rice, but way better tasting than what I usually experience. Even the boneless ribs were good. The crab rangoon seemed mostly cream cheese, but that didn't stop me from liking it. (I kind of love cream cheese.) I don't know about a whole order of these, though. This is my new go-to place for American Chinese for sure. I'm hoping the dishes are as good as the appetizers.

I've drove by China Taste on a daily basis for probably 3 years and have never stopped. After a hankering last weekend for Chinese food I decided to try it out and order take out. It may not look that enticing by look of the building but honestly, I was impressed! The staff was friendly, the service was quick (15 minutes from calling around 1pm on Sunday) and the food was good. I ordered a lunch special and it was enough food for two meals! I will definitely be back.

Wanted late-night Chinese food without the hassle of a whole sit-down, tip-your-waiter experience (just counter service with a couple of tables if you want them) and got it here. The food is good, no complaints there -- and they have a smiling potato chip as their mascot. They don't serve potato chips, but that's OK. Obviously in a place like this, expectations are going to be somewhat low right off the bat, but I would say that the place could definitely use a little more attention to decor and maintenance. There weren't any specific problems related to hygiene or cleanliness, but it felt a little bit "unloved" out in the dining room IMO, which made me not want to touch anything. And I know styrofoam containers are cheap but seriously this is the 21st century; have you not learned the word "non-biodegradable" yet? Sorry for the 'tude, but I'm so tired of seeing this. I'd give it a 3.5 but those are the limits of the Yelp system. What would give it a 4? Better ambiance. But good food for the price, definitely.

Best I have ever had... Went two days in a row! Hot and sour, fried rice, ribs, WANGS, alllll good!! Seriously the best Chinese food I have ever had. Right spice, salt levels just super! Inside there is no place to really "dine in" but menu is so large!

Avoid at all costs... I've never tasted China but I'm guessing it doesn't taste like this. On suggestion of my roommate we tried eating here last night. The food reminded me of the Chinese buffet, just worse. I'm not even gonna bother describing the quality of ingredients. Trust me when I say, there are many, many, many, better alternatives in the area. I didn't actually go in the place because we got take out so I can't comment on the service.

i was a dedicated customer until last night when my lo mein arrived with out any noddles?? they said i ordered something totally different. strange because i always order the same thing!! when i called i got the run around. called back today and was told to come down and pick up some noodles. i am stuck at home with a broken wrist, that is why i ordered out. i am also in the food business and where i work the customer is always right. apparently not so here.

My go-to place for Chinese in Portland. Food is very tasty, service is quick and friendly, prices are ok, portions are large, and the place is clean. Great hot and sour soup!

It's the spot Portland has been waiting for. Clean, non greasy, efficient (quick) Chinese food, in delivery and take out and sit down options. Best value is the dinner combinations, and they allow substitutions on the side so if its an egg roll and you want crab rangoons, just ask. Also, crab rangoons are medium size packets that are good, egg roll is big and delicious, sesame chicken, general tsaos...etc. are all solid.

This A great place to get your Chinese food with flair! With nice food and great service. This Is one of those places to go! Before you enter the area. You see that there is not exactly perfect. This is. Thankfully. The ONLY negative! Phew! And when you actually enter the area. Here is a summary! Cheap prices! Like 5.50 for sweet n' sour chicken! Nice staff! With a constant smile smeared on their faces 24/7/31/12/365! #maths! And the food is simpily perfect! And their golden chicken is. Well. Golden! Good flavor and style! Overall. This is a pro Chinese food place! If you want a Chinese flair with perfect tastes. Go here!

This is a regular delivery place of mine.....as I live a couple miles away and take out Chinese is always a convenience. I'll start with their delivery service...always spot on....30-40 mins max...never a mix up. I've ordered over 25 times..4 plus stars for that part of their operation. For me...the appetizers are the least favorable part of the food prep and quality...I'm a big Asian wing guy...these are sub standard....both in food quality and prep.....I now get by ordering them specifically extra crispy....they are tolerable with that pre-ordering modification. The egg rolls, fried shrimp, dumplings and other apps....lack finesse....they are bulky, over breaded, over cooked, and just average at best. The beef and chicken teriyaki sticks are just off to me...it could be the general food product quality....or the prep....but they are just not right to me... From there....many of the entree items are better....I've ordered most of the chef's specials....they are fine both in quality and price....the lo mein, hot and sour soup, and seafood soup.....all very good. I'm partial to their Gai Poo Lo Mein....a healthy seafood and noodle dish....very well done....dinner and lunch the next day for $16.... Overall....I eat from them a bunch....so I must like something....the convenience and delivery service is very good....I selectively work my way through the apps....and the soups, noodles, and entree are average to above average.... For me...solid 3 1/2 stars.....I'd go higher if they could get their act together with their chicken wings

Tasty. Mongolian Beef is best in town. Crab Rangoons are a bit bland but fine. Most other dishes have been above average. Great customer service. Prices are about average. Super speedy & dependable.

Greasy Chinese food with prices that keep rising. Since they opened the quality of the food has gradually become less mediocre and ever more oily.

I want to give China Taste four stars, I really do. BUT a hair in the sweet n' sour sauce on our recent order means that I really can only go up as far as three stars. But if not for that unwanted hair in the food (yikes!) I would have given this place four stars. I'm going to be real with you - my idea of good Chinese food is FRIED everything. And I have had quite a lot of it over the years. China Taste does not disappoint in this regard - they know their way around a fryer. If you're looking for authentic Chinese, first of all remember: you are in Maine. We don't do authentic Chinese. (No, Empire is NOT authentic.) Go to Boston or NYC for real Chinese food - here in Maine it's all about the Pu Pu Platter. But if like me you're feeling the void left by the closure (I think! The phone is disconnected) of Yan Mee, give China Taste a try. AND they do coupons. So get a coupon before you call - free fried rice or $5 off, not bad!

Good cheap Chinese food. It makes me not want to vomit when I'm finished eating so that's a huge plus.

The best Chinese I have had in Portland, and I have been searching. I havent tried a whole host of dishes, but usually judge a place by my personal stand-bys: Pork Fried Rice, Vegetable Lo Mein, boneless spare rib and crab rangoon. Most Pork Fried rice, part of the proverbial combo dinner, is usually an afterthought, just salty, greasy, with a minimum of meat and veggies. Not the case here, the roast pork was in fairly large pieces, the flavors were nice, complex, and it was not greasy. The Lo Mein was also not greasy. I loved eating it the next day too, it really held up well. The spare rib was pretty standard, not very many overly fatty pieces, and the rangoons weere pillowy goodness. Reasonable prices. Delivery was quick by a lovely older gentleman who actually had a kid in the back seat, so this must be a true family operation. I will be using it exclusively for my Chinese food cravings.

Pan fried dumplings are excellent. The Ma Po Tofu is quite good. This is clearly the best Chinese food in the greater Portland area - I have tried many.

Pan fried dumplings! Different than others - more doughy but delicious!

I rate 3.5. The dumplings I think could be cooked a bit longer but were still very good. The crab ragoon were of average. Come nowhere close to my favorite place. They lack filling but still toast good and were not over good and dry. The combo fried rice was awesome! Tons of meat. I would order again. Good luck!

Finally an awesome Chinese Food place in Portland! They cook each order individually using woks. Authentic and delicious. We have been looking for good Chinese since we used to have favorites in the Boston area. We've tried them all. China Taste is a winner!

Based on reviews, We were excited for our first order of delivery. It will be our last. The duck sauce and the boneless spare ribs were awesome and the house dried rice was just ok. The rest - beef teriyaki, crab rangoon, chicken wings, fortune cookies and the hot mustard - were bad. There was no crab in the measly filling. Mystery meat teriyaki. Good luck. For the money, shop around!

Quick service, decent food. Can't ask for much more from a fast food style Chinese restaurant.

I was pretty optomistic based on some of the other reviews. However, this meal was not good at all. The won-ton soup was alright, but thats impossible to mess up. The General Tsos chicken was very bland, and the chicken was low quality. It was not very good chiese food at all.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
