Decided to check out this new place on exchange. Menu had a decent selection, a variety of patties to choose from and customize. I ended up choosing the West Side burger - beef patty with avocado, cilantro, fresh salsa, chipotle puree, lime. Wanting to browse their full selection, I ordered sweet potato fries and a chocolate malt shake. All told, everything was ready in a little more than five minutes. The burger was okay. The bun (I asked for whole wheat) was soft, but lacking any real flavor. The flavors of the various sauces blended together to taste like a green salsa, but nothing too complex. There was plenty of cilantro to add brightness, but at a certain point I think it overwhelmed the flavors. The burger itself was unremarkable... A little moist but not super substantial or flavorful - felt very much like a compromise between fast food and gourmet, not a marriage of the two. The sweet potato fries were disappointing... Dry and burnt - devoid of any real life. I have nothing more to say about them. The shake was decent... Solid malty flavor but average, oh so middling. Outside of the fries, nothing was bad, but noting stood out either. With plenty of good burgers in Portland (Five Guys, East Ender, LFK), I was expecting great things from B Good, and while they did not fail, they certainly did not meet these expectations either.

Delicious! So happy they are here in Portland. Love the concept, the people were friendly, the atmosphere terrific and the food was fresh and tasty.

Their burgers are so juicy and fresh you can taste it. I love how you can get a wheat bun if you want to be a little more healthy. They just replaced their soda machine with an all natural one, no more high fructose corn syrup. Oh and they have both regular fries and sweet potato ones which are so good!

We really enjoyed the burgers, the fries and the friendly staff! Great little hamburger joint!!

    B. Good was more or less what I expected: an upscale fast food experience (which is also basically what its mission is!). I do think the idea is cool and definitely fits with the local food scene that is so strongly supported in Portland... but due to the nature of its mission doesn't create an exceptional dining experience by any account. For 10 dollars and some change I got a soda, a burger and fries. The burger was tasty, topped with mushrooms and caramelized onions. The meat as well as the toppings were cooked well, the mushrooms and the bun were especially tasty. The fries were good as well, thick and salty. But I was a bit disappointed because I thought the portions were too small for the price. The service wasn't outstanding, and the place a bit empty and cold even for a weekday night. Overall though, good quality food with local ingredients. My issue is that I can spend a few more bucks and get a REALLY delicious and truly gourmet burger at 555, or if I just want to satisfy the craving of a greasy cheeseburger I can walk the couple blocks to Five Guys. Although B. Good does have a small selection of beers on tap which is definitely a draw. Cons: small portions, mediocre ambiance, a bit pricy Pros: beer, local ingredients, overall good taste. I'd be willing to give it another go, but it might not be my first thought for a bite to eat in Portland.

The burger was very fresh tasting and their thick hand-cut fries were delish! However, their waitstaff isn't the brightest: "I'm sorry sir, I can't do that for you without a button on my register."

First off, I'm writing this review while on the toilet, because that's right where their food sent me..I read good reviews, but I have my own review to write..I ordered the West Chicken Burger, and it was cold..The french fries were also cold and had been sitting for at least an hour..I asked for a fresh batch and the guy said it'd be at least ten minutes(really?)..My stomach has been making sounds that it has never made before and I'm sure I'll spend the rest of the evening on the throne..Go somewhere else..Did I mention I saw a drug deal between an employee and his dealer..? That part takes the cake.

The set up is you order and give them your name and they bring you your food. I got the Joanie - veggie burger with avocado, sriracha, and a homemade spicy slaw - which was very good. My only gripe was the service. I ordered a PBR and the guy was like "uh, I don't know where it is." I was like it says pabst in red white and blue, and he still couldn't find it, and their tap selection isn't big. I thought he was kidding. He had to have some one pour the beer for him. I understand if you're new but that was weird to me. When we were eating, I watched another server drop an entire beer on the floor. Again, accidents happen, but it just felt like the servers were pretty novice. Maybe it was an off night.

Mehhh... We came based on reviews and a desire for burgers. Major fail. We both got the cousin it or whatever; one veggie patty, one beef. The beef was bland and meatloaf-y in texture. The veggie patty was primarily grains with I think grated carrots and other things? but all I saw was rice. It squeezed out of my bun every time I took a bite. And it made me sick! The fries. I don't even. Completely under-seasoned and real mushy. Or these made me sick! I don't know, I just feel bad! Service? Ha. Don't even think about getting a cordial hello from anyone.

Ok food, but the place has a weird vibe. Not friendly. They bring you your meal, but you have to get up from the table to go find napkins. All together too much promotional signage. We get it. Food comes from farms. This is Maine, we kind of knew that already. Uncooked kale may be good for you, but it isn't tasty. I was disappointed.

Good food that makes you feel healthy. Good creative menu. Kind of pricey if your with the whole family though, but it's worth it for the better quality. Could be a little faster.

Wow. I have walked by this place a few times and only gave it a passing glance. From the outside it seems small and "fast food" like. I came to B.Good to meet up with some committee members to plan out some work. I got there early; the smell was intoxicating and my stomach started growling. I took a quick look at the menu and was pleasantly surprised. As much food as possible is locally sourced, such as Pineland Farms beef. They have Kale and Quinoa Bowls. There are plenty of options for vegan, dairy free, vegetarian and carnivore alike. I had some crispy vegetables which were cooked with crunch still left in them and not full of oil, but full of flavor. I also had the Westside burger. It had the right amount of spice without being overpowering and my mouth still waters thinking about it. They have beet lemonade, rosemary lemonade, unsweetened lemon tea as well as a soda fountain and short beer list. There is additional seating in the upstairs so don't shy away. I am excited to go back!

Had a so-so burger and didn't go back until someone recommended the salads. At first, they were great! Loved the Southwestern chicken and kept ordering them to go. Not so psyched to get back to the office and find brown avocado. I mentioned this in an email to Corporate and received a very prompt response and a free salad link. Nice. Until I went to Exchange St., scanned the code and it popped up as a free fry. Checkout girl just shrugged her shoulders. Useless. So I paid for the salad. Back to the office. This time, black avocado! (See posted pic). The manager that I spoke to when I went back for a refund was the guy that handed it to me in the first place. Needless to say, I don't recommend this place.

I appreciated their commitment to using natural and local ingredients, but I've had much better burgers elsewhere. I had the Adopted Luke, and while the caramelized onions were tasty, I wished there was more of it. There was very little smoked gouda and barbecue sauce as well, and the burger overall just needed more seasoning. The fries were more soft than crispy, although I did enjoy their homemade ketchup. My favorite part was the drinks! Both the lemonade and iced tea on offer were interesting and tasty alternatives to regular soda. I might come back for a quick bite, but I feel like there's better casual food in the city.

Had lunch there today.... Big disappointment. Burger was just fair at best. Very small piece of meat for the price. Not really worth the money. Fries were good. 5-guys Burger puts this place to shame.....

A co-worker and I went in one Friday night for dinner after getting out at 11:00pm. My parents had picked up a turkey burger with mushrooms, smoked gouda cheese, and BBQ sauce for me once. It was delicious so I wanted to to go back and try some other menu items. The staff was very friendly and it's a great place to grab a late night bite of food. It's less greasy than Five Guys and they get all of their food from local sources. This time I got a kale crush smoothie and a side of fries. My friend got sweet potato fries and a chicken sandwich. She loved her chicken sandwich, but like my regular fries better than the sweet potato. The fries had a wonderful seasoning on them, but I wished they were a little crunchier. Their portions of fries were HUGE! My smoothie was delicious and had a perfect blend of veggies. It was a little pricey, but I would go there again for sure. Their hours are great and the food is worth it if it's late and you want something relatively healthy. They even have a nice selection of beer.

Non gmo everything caters to the whack job pseudoscience crowd I applaud their effort to make money off the general public's scientific illiteracy but the food kinda sucks. Burger was less tasty than five guys and the fries were mushy. Their homemade ketchup tastes like tomato paste.

Not impressed. I am a big fan of health food, especially when restaurants can make it taste good. They did not. I had the rosemary, white bean, kale and quinoa bowl. It tasted like there was some kind of Asian sesame oil on it. All ingredients were just thrown into a bowl so there really was no flavor profile. My friend had a veggie burger which sounded great but was also lacking, not to mention cold. The fries were also cold and under cooked. It reminded me of a chipotle- where they want you to think it is fresh and home cooked but really it's a bunch of ingredients that they just throw together real quick. Service was friendly enough and I liked that they had beer. One big bonus was the atmosphere- definitely go upstairs and sit along the window and street watch old port. However, I won't be joining you....

My family had been here and raved about this place, and took me to share the experience. Loved the decor and concept of farm to table. I got a basic cheeseburger and fries. I thought the food was a little bland, and the fries were under cooked. Even my wife thought it was better the first time she tried verses this time. It will be a good place to try again, but a lot of if's (if we're in the old port during lunch/dinner times, if we want to try a place we've been to or a new place, if, if, if) So, its not a place that I NEED to return to, but will IF it fits into the big scheme.

I like what this place is about-real food fast. The menu offers a lot of different options from quinoa and kale bowls to burgers and fries. My problem is that the menu and the thought behind this restaurant don't translate to reality at this location. I've been on several occasions and have ordered the veggie burger each time. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not. The fries are underwhelming. I get it-they are baked so they lose a little something. But I've made baked sweet potato fries at home many times and they are flavorful and good. These fries are not crispy and lack flavor. About the only thing that has been consistent is the vanilla shake. My other issue with this place is the service. There is a woman that works here that is fundamentally unfriendly. I feel bad saying that because everyone has an off day but I've been several times and each time she has been working and each time she seems like she hates her job and is so bothered to be there. It's uncomfortable to order from someone who doesn't smile, doesn't seem like she wants to help you, and seems genuinely annoyed that you are ordering. And the real food isn't fast. It's the opposite of fast. Today we received all of our food about 15 minutes after we ordered and they didn't bring my son's sweet potato fries. The guy who brought us our food said that they were cooking and he would bring them right out. Never happened. And yes, I should have said something but I felt like I shouldn't have to. I ordered them, I paid for them, clearly I want them. The people working in the kitchen seemed to have zero sense of urgency. There were people standing around in the kitchen and a steady stream of employees coming and going from the back door...I'm assuming to smoke? Which is slightly disgusting and disturbing from a restaurant that in theory is all about being healthy. I don't like to write a 2 star review. I actually feel bad doing so, but hopefully the owners and management will read this review and will consider the feedback. I really want to like this place and maybe I'll give it another try sometime but a few bad experiences have turned me away for now.

The woman taking my order seemed entirely confused about where she was or how people normally order burgers. I very rarely get asked to spell "Nicole", but I did... and then she asked again because she got lost halfway through typing it. Yikes. I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise when our burgers arrived with the cheeses swapped (the prep team's fault, not the cashier). Lucky for me, my husband is awesome and ordered a slightly similar burger and moved the toppings over so I could fix my cheddar craving. We sat upstairs which was almost an entirely different space--quiet, cool, and relaxing--nothing close to the loud chaos on the floor below. (To be fair, it was lunchtime, and I expected chaos.) Overall, I love what this place stands for: locally-sourced meals made with care. The décor feeds into the theme with information about all of the local farms that provide produce and meat for the burger on your plate. While I enjoyed my meal, and the burger itself was tasty, I felt it was a bit on the greasy side by the time I was done eating. I even got a stitch in my side walking back to work. I probably won't come back in the future---it didn't amaze me, and it's sitting rather heavy as I write this. I expected something a little healthier (yeah, yeah, yeah, "healthy burger" is an oxymoron, I know). Though this is more of a 2.5 star on the burger because of the grease, I gave the place a 3 for its cool factor. PS: Don't forget to download their mobile app and scan it at the register. We got a free bag of fries (which was delicious, though on the small side for 2)!

Definitely happy with this place! Perfect location right on Exchange Street. Lots of options for their burgers/sandwiches -- it's not very often that you have the choice of beef, turkey, veggie, or chicken sandwich. They have good "recipes" for the burgers, as well as just a classic burger, plus a bunch of salads, regular & sweet potato fries, and smoothies & shakes. Apparently much of the food -- including the beef, veggies, and ice cream for their shakes -- is locally sourced, which I love. The burger was DELICIOUS, the fries were so-so. They seemed like an odd mix of overly cooked/crispy and hardly cooked at all/mushy. Might have just been an off batch. But they do have a little bit of a spicy kick, which I loved. I would definitely go back! Edited on 03/22/14 after a second visit! We sat upstairs this time, which was awesome -- very quiet, a second bathroom, a larger lounge-style room and a smaller room with a bar area, with some window seats (which we gladly grabbed up). The service was much faster this time, and my burger was just as delicious as the last one. Tried the sweet potato fries -- same problem as the regular fries, but they were good. Also tried the Three Green smoothie -- holy AWESOME.

My first visit there was for lunch on Friday & it was better than I expected. The Kale & quinoa bowls are to die for! My bf got a burger & he said it was delicious! The beet lemonaide was refreshing. I never knew healthy eating could be so good. There's plenty of seating up & downstairs with a great view of old port bustle. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

What a cool place. I really love the concept, it's completely original and it totally has that Portland hippie crunchy organic vibe. The beet ginger lemonade is to DIE FOR! Unreal. I love the burgers I've gotten from there though they are all rather small. I would prefer a bigger burger but lets not get it twisted, for what it is; I really do like it. It's a nice shake up and I love the fries. it's not a place i'd go all the time but I do enjoy the uniqueness of the menu and local ingredients.

The quinoa and kale salads are incredible. So fresh and huge! Easily, my favorite lunch in awhile. My husband had the buffalo burger and fries and loved it. They have fun drinks (beet lemonade, etc.) and a great company story. Head here for a healthy, local, and inspired lunch. Can't wait to go back.

We've been here several times. I really enjoy the kale & quinoa bowls. Great fresh kale, lots of other sautéed but crisp veggies. My kids love the burgers and fries. I like that the fries are finished in the oven. This last time, my husband got the green chile burger and it was super tasty. We enjoyed the live music upstairs too. Made for an enjoyable evening.

Having a picky, healthy-eating teenager makes eating out a challenge. b.good is our new go to. The kale, white bean bowl was excellent and my daughter ate every bit if her veggie burger. I would have given 5 stars if their drink selection was more broad (sparkling water, please) and if the woman working the register was audible - she whispered. Coupled with the kitchen noise, I wasn't sure what I was answering. As a result, a couple of requests were overlooked. Overall, we are looking forward to our next visit.

What a great place! We were trudging through the streets of Portland during this past ice storm and came upon this gem. Local food. Vegetarian options-not vegan though. The veg burger has eggs in it:( Gluten free buns for your burgers though! Yum yum.

Four stars for delicious, healthy, REAL food and an extra star for serving it with local beer in a great location. Sit upstairs and watch the exchange street traffic. It's great.

Kale and quinoa bowl... Oh how badly I wanted to like you! I love kale.. I love quinoa.. I love beets.. I didn't love this bowl :( First let me say, the ambiance of this place is awesome- rustic mixed with modern, clean and quick! A friend and I tried lunch there and sat upstairs in the sunny bar area and from the time we ordered till we got our food was probably no more than 10 minutes. Now the quinoa bowl- nothing terrible about it but it was just very bland, with all the different veggies and such in it I was surprised it was lacking some major flavor. My friend on the other hand had some sort of chicken sandwich in fries which looked amazing! Live and learn I suppose :) I'll give it another shot to try something different.

Would have loved to try this place, and wanted to grab a bite after going to the gym. Unfortunately at 8:40 I was told that they weren't making salads because they were 'closing soon'. Really? Twenty minutes before 9:00? No thanks.

take a look at the fresh produce on the display when you walk it. They are so proud of it, they put it under a spotlight. don't just ask for a cheeseburger (because you'll spend $8 on bun+beef+cheese). read the menu, take your time, make a selection. i like it when places make their own veggie burgers; it shows initiative. this one has corn and black beans. I had it loaded with fixins, on a bun, with bacon, and fries and their signature smoothie with kale (or spinach?) and fruit. excellent smoothie, decent plain fries, tasty sandwich. it made me want to try other things on the menu. so i got the signature quinoa bowl with avocado, cilantro, lime, chile, etc. along with the signature veggie smoothie (three greens). This isn't comfort food. These two items are daring offerings, and i think they had very disparate tastes. i wouldn't order them together again, but maybe separately. the quinoa bowl is huge, and i went through many stages of development and personal growth as i ate it. first bite: didn't like it. lots of kale and green beans on top, coupled with a strong hot sauce. i started to really like it at the bottom of the bowl, where the quinoa lives. sauce up the quinoa and corn and black beans and it's golden. I was eating in uncharted territory, so i kept coming back to familiar tastes (cheese sprinkled throughout) and THE CHERRY TOMATOES. YES! palate cleansed when i needed it most. I ate the whole thing, and was damn proud of myself afterwards. It can be hard eating vegetarian when you're out of practice. 3 greens smoothie had a subtle flavor with mint and (honey?). maybe its a tea drinker's smoothie delight, who knows. I'm sure it has a time and a place, but i needed a drink with a stronger flavor (fruit smoothie, milk shake, lemonade) to tackle that vicious quinoa bowl. I don't know much about dietary restrictions, but i like to pretend that if the perfectly restricted meal meets the right restrictor, a deep personal connection is formed. In this holy bond, food can talk, and it might say "i'm a tasty adventure, fresh, and i might be the only suitable food you can find all day, so here i am in giant bowl. I'm here just for you, so eat all of me while you got me." that's what it would have said to me, if i was its match. instead, i snapped into a slim jim an hour later.

My friend and I were just looking for somewhere warm to eat the other day in Portland, and B.Good was right there so we walked in. I had the El Guapo burger, it was really good and spicy (I'm a huge spicy fan!) The only thing was it was quite expensive, a burger and drink for just over $10... I do like the fact that its mostly local products. Also the staff were very friendly! I might stop by next time I'm in Portland.

I visited B. Good for the first time today. I found the staff to be very capable and friendly, a couple of other B. Good Yelp reviews have stated otherwise... I ordered the Adopted John beef burger (minus the BBQ sauce) and it was perfect! Juicy, flavorful and the wheat bun was fantastic. My fries were fresh and delicious. I liked it so much, I checked my Yelp tp see if they were open late - Yelp indicated they were open until 10pm. When I arrived, they were closed, but the staff explained they will be open until 10pm weekdays in a couple of weeks. They apologized & gave me a coupon for a free fry! I will absolutely be back - they are open until 2am Friday & Saturday!

I've eaten here twice. The first time, I got the burger with fries, which were both cooked fresh and well done. I liked that the burger wasn't gigantic, and overall they were both very tasty. My only complaint is that the burger was overcooked, but its almost impossible to get a burger that isn't anymore. The second time I ate here I got the orange and avocado salad. It was made fresh, and had the goodies I liked (avocado, pistachios, shaved fennel, goats cheese) but the dressing was disappointing. It had ZERO flavor. Its supposed to be a lemon-mint, if I recall, but it didn't taste like anything. I wanted to put salt on my salad. It was such a shame to have such a beautiful salad with a dressing that basically wasn't there.

  • Britney S.

Amazing. I had a turkey burger with fries. The product was completely fresh and well prepared. It was like taking a breath of fresh air. The fries are thicker cut and i'm more of a thin-cut kind of girl but they were seasoned well and delicious. I also enjoyed their rosemary lemonade and thought it was neat that their soda fountain offered different varieties of Maine Root brands. Been craving B Good burger ever since i've first had it, can't wait to go back!

What's not to love about b good? Local ingredients, delicious burgers cool atmosphere. I havn't tried any main menu item expect the cousin Oliver chicken and beef so I can't speak to some of the other reviews however the fries are killer! Sweet potato fries are my favorite. This is definitely the best burger in town, nobody even comes close!

  • Brett F.

So I've come back maybe 6 more times and I still strongly feel the 5 star review is warranted. B.good's competition is Five Guys and Elevation Burger and it is leagues beyond them in food and atmosphere. And they serve alcohol! Sitting upstairs at the bar and eating a delicious non-greasy burger and sweet potato fries with a local IPA may be the best value in the old port. It hasn't been overly crowded any time I've been so I'm hoping it catches on. Don't waste your money at Five Guys!

Stopped here on a road trip from bar harbor to NYC and we're so glad we did! Husband got the lime avocado kale and quinoa bowl and I got the butternut squash salad. We were both REALLY impressed!!! We'll be back next time we're in town.

My last visit late last year on their one year anniversary was so very bad. The fries were inedible, the burger over cooked. It was very busy that day, I can't imagine what was going on. I've had such uneven experiences over multiple visits, I have officially written this place off. However, I do wish them well as I really, really like their philosophy.
