Although Maine was experiencing warmer than normal temperatures; it was cooler than our home state of Texas. The Inn is beautiful, lovely touches all over - Mary Ann has done a wonderful job. The meals were heaven and I enjoyed the leisurely pace (reminded me of Europe - where you have the table for the evening, a long lost treasure). My husband and I plan on going back yearly. Mary Ann and Manuel: Job Well Done. Thank you for excellent service, conversation and just basic niceness.

We original came to Maine for the lobster. Since we found the Youngstown Inn five years ago, we now split our dinners in Maine between two nights lobster and two nights at the Youngstown Inn. Their food quality is excellent as well as the whole dining experience. They are charming hosts as well. We recommend them without reservation.

We had dinner at the Youngtown Inn as part of a wonderful weekend visit to the Camden area. The Inn itself was our first positive - a beautiful converted home in rural central Maine. The atmosphere of the place just walking from the car set the stage for the rest of our experience. The restaurant is inside a lovely bed and breakfast, and takes up most of the first floor. The feel is very Colonial New England, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The service was prompt and and formal, but not overbearing or too formal to be uncomfortable. The food was outstanding - a wonderful menu with diversity and originality. I had the Filet, and it was wonderfully prepared great cut of meat. My girlfriend's meal was just as good, and she had Creme Brulee for dessert, which was exquisite. Extensive wine list, both by the glass and the bottle. Outstanding experience; we couldn't have been happier!

My mom and I stayed at the Youngtown Inn for three nights of our Maine vacation. It was perfect.... MaryAnn was so welcoming, and accommodating. The Inn is beautiful. It is just a short drive out of town, in an idyllic countryside framed by mountains and a gorgeous lake. Our room, with 2 double beds, was very nice and had a separate entrance. Beds were soooo comfortable and linens were crisp, rich and had that delicious freshly laundered smell to them. Breakfast is a gourmet treat, of 3 courses, included with your room. One day we were served the best blueberry pancakes I have ever had, the next day we had scrambled eggs with herbs and smoked salmon, and lastly, a crab fritatta on puff pastry. Each day we were excited to see what was going to be served. Our first night at the Inn, we ate dinner in the restaurant. We were tired from driving and starving. To start we had delicious lobster ravioli and lobster bisque. My mom had a steak, which she said was the best she had ever had, it was perfectly cooked medium rare. Everything about our experience at the Youngtown Inn was great, from the customer service, to the food and bedrooms......I am already planning a return visit with my husband!

Previous reviewers have done a nice job capturing the pleasures of this jewel in the landscape near Camden Maine. My lady and I stayed three nights in the inn, and dined at the restaurant the last night. The owners are Manuel (chef) and Mary Ann (host) Mercier. I'll write this brief review in three parts: 1. The inn is small (six rooms I understand), Our room was delightful, with a small private porch and nice views over the owner's orchards, and the common areas are also very pleasant. The location outside Camden is ideal for accessing hiking into the adjacent Camden Hills and biking on local roads, which we planned for this visit. Mary Ann gave us nice tips for our hiking itinerary and other nearby establishments, such as the winery estate up the road. 2. Inclusive breakfasts by Manuel are simply the best that we have had in a New England B&B. Period. I would return just for these 3. The dining experience at the restaurant is relaxed and it feels almost casual, but the service that we enjoyed is attentive. I do not normally seek out French cuisine, but the talent of Manuel Mercier made this meal a winner. For appetizers, my lady had escargots while I had stuffed quail, and we continued with rack of lamb on her plate, and wild boar on mine (the fresh blueberry and cognac sauce on the boar was notable). We finished with a perfect souffle. Our expectation of a "heavy" french meal was happily off-base, this was flavorful, memorable cooking. The Youngtown Inn creates an exceptional experience, with a refreshing absence of affect or needless pomp.

Based on previous reviews we went to Youngstown Inn for a special anniversary dinner and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, from the salad with mozzarella and tomatoes and a sweet balsamic dressing to rack of lamb that was butter soft and deliciously seasoned. Beautiful old inn, great service. We highly recommend.

Pros: Outstanding food, excellent service, good ambience. Cons: A bit out of the way...but definitely, definitely worth it. One of the hidden gems of the Maine dining scene that I've found after vacationing here for twenty years. It took me a while to find it, but I'm glad that I did. After an appetizer of lobster ravioli, we had a duck breast in a sour cherry port wine reduction that was simply heavenly, and a perfectly done pork tenderloin in mustard sauce. Dessert was a raspberry souffle (had to order at the beginning, as it takes additional time to bake), which was pretty good. In all, this is probably the best upscale restaurant on the midcoast Maine area.

What an incredible find! My husband and I stayed here while on a bike tour (it's right on the northern tier route!) What a fantastic way to finish a day of riding. After cleaning up from riding, we ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was unbelievable. My husband had the pork tenderloin - definitely the best pork either of us had ever had. We had a lovely sleep and then were treated to an incredible breakfast the next morning. The owners are so friendly, the food is delicious, the Inn is located in a beautiful spot - really you can not go wrong here. We can't wait to return for more delicious food :-)

After having dinner at the Youngtown Inn, an upscale restaurant and inn a few miles inland from Camden, Maine, I wondered what other yelpers thought of the place. I was surprised to find only one filtered review. There are several reviews on other sites, most of them raves. The Youngtown Inn is a real alternative to the lobster shack experience that is everywhere on the Maine coast, so I think that some yelp reviews of the Youngtown Inn are needed. I had seen print advertisements for the place that were enticing, and the card I found at the information hut in Camden enticed me further with the promise of a free soufflé. A soufflé is real cooking of the kind that is hard to find in Maine. It was nice to drive out of the crowded town past a lake and into the countryside. The Inn and its dining room were stately and lovely, and I heard someone in the kitchen speaking with a French accent. Things were looking good. My wife and I both started our meals with a salad. Four sections (not whole slices) of fresh tomato were at the edge of the plate. The tomato was topped with a fitted slice of mozzarella that was in turn topped with pesto and a few whole pine nuts. The pesto was fresh and delicious, and the whole pine nuts added to the taste and texture of the dish. The mesclun piled in the middle of the plate was dressed with olive oil that really tasted like olives. This was a great beginning. The rolls that were served before the salad were warm (a plus), and our waitress brought the pepper grinder for the salad (another plus). The pepper was great on the salad, but it also went all over the white tablecloth. The waitress never crumbed our table, so we finally brushed off the excess pepper before dessert. This is a small thing, but a restaurant that wants to be taken as seriously as this one does needs to attend to such matters. After a great appetizer course, the entrees were a letdown. I had sage-crusted, pan-seared veal. The veal was a little overcooked and a little tough. I could see sage leaves on the meat, but all I could taste was salt. My wife's salmon was a bit better. The salmon was wild Alaskan salmon rather than farmed Atlantic salmon, and it was a good piece of fish. However, it too suffered from too much salt. Both entrees came with a vegetable medley that was acceptable (the sides were not mentioned in the menu). My veal came with what our waitress called a potato cake though I would describe it as a croquette. The cake was rounded rather than flat and had a crispy exterior. The potato seemed to be minced rather than mashed, and it had a nice creamy-yet-substantial texture that was enhanced by some chopped corn. The right amount of chive added to the flavor. The potato cake was delicious, but it made the lackluster veal seem all the more disappointing. The starch that came with the salmon was a white and wild rice medley that had hardly any flavor and a boring soft texture. The inconsistency of the cooking was frustrating. The desserts were good. The flour less chocolate cake delivered on chocolate flavor though I wouldn't call it exceptional. The free raspberry soufflé was well executed and tasty. Souffles are a specialty of the house, and you can choose among raspberry, Grand Marnier or chocolate at $9 each. Our waitress was a lovely person, but she needs to be told how to do things the right way. My wife ordered tea with her dessert. The waitress came back with a (i.e. one) bag of Earl Grey tea and asked, "Is this OK?" My wife said "No", so the waitress went back to her basket full of tea bags and selected another one (Lipton this time) and returned with the same question. Black tea was fine with my wife, so the waitress didn't have to go back for a third try. Of course, she should have brought out the entire selection so that my wife could pick her tea. When you are paying a minimum of around $50 per person for dinner, this really isn't acceptable service. I wanted to tout this place as an alternative in a Maine restaurant scene that is boringly one-dimensional. Other people told me of great meals they had at the Youngtown Inn. I am willing to give it another try though I can't give it more than three stars after my first experience. This place is clearly capable of doing better and being more consistent. It needs someone who is picky and demanding to oversee both the kitchen and the front of the house.

Another amazing experience! I have been visiting the Youngtown Inn for 20 years. First with my family, later my husband and this time with our new daughter. Our latest visit did not disappoint. Our room was immaculate, cooled off nicely on the hot summer days we were there, and had a private balcony with a beautiful view. The delectable scent of breakfast rising into the inn made it hard to stay in bed, and the blueberry pancakes tasted as good as they smelled. Our dinner experience was so enjoyable. The staff was friendly but unobtrusive and we always enjoy seeing the familiar smiling faces. We started with salads and I tried something new and had the most delicious pork loin. My husband went with his tried and true favorite, rack of lamb, chef Manuel makes the best he's ever had. We finished our meal as we always do with a soufflé and creme brûlée and it was better than I remembered. Overall our visit to the Youngtown inn was wonderful. We look forward to continuing to visit each year.

We've been here at least 4-5 times over the last decade both with and without our 2 year old. Each has been a great stay, the owners are the nicest people, but are not intrusive. Breakfasts are out of this world, as are dinners if you choose as the owner is an actual French chef. Only minutes from Camden, lakes, the shore etc, but far enough that it's quiet and tranquil. Now there's a winery up the road w/tastings etc, which makes the location even better. We'll continue to go here and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in the area.
