Roberts is a frequent stop for our family either heading to York or home to Massachusetts. On Saturday night we stopped for supper before heading back to MA - the meal and the general kindness of the staff reinforced that this one of our favorite family restaurants. The meal was it's usual fine quality - my husband and I both got specials that disappeared from our plates due to our hunger and the Greta taste!! So what of my service comment? First - apparently the food server was an international summer staff member - THOUGH I DIDN'T NOTICE!! - apparently, the server must have hesitated as to which meal was for my husband and which was mine. Soon thereafter, our primary server came over and apologized saying how badly he felt... Truly - if there was a hesitation, it was ever so slight and the concern speaks to the high standard that Roberts has for service. Finally, at the conclusion of our meal, the bill and customer comment card arrived and as my husband managed the bill, my 8 year old son decided to take on the comment card ( could be he saw it as a new challenge since he survived his first round of standardized tests at school!). Having completed the task, the server returned with our credit card... Noting my sons work on the card, the server wrote out and handed him a coupon for a free little dessert when we next returned!! He was tickled pink!! Roberts - you rock!!

YES, please and thank you! We had such a lovely experience at Robert's that we returned for a second visit the very next day. As a lover of fresh fresh seafood, I was very much looking forward to sampling the fare here per word of mouth and reviews on this site. Highlights (in order of noteworthiness): 1. The customer service was beyond exceptional: The manager introduced himself to us and continued to check in during the evening. I find it a rare treat to have a restaurant manager take such sincere interest in your dining experience. It really was very nice. We requested a round raw PEI musses to start, and shortly thereafter the manager came to personally to inform us that they had just received a bad PEI mussel and were taking it off the menu. He then suggested the local Maine oyster, which was perfection. (Do not let this reflect poorly on the restaurant - bad mussels happen, and they handled the situation diligently and responsibly. This is why I am mentioning it). When the Moxie Tri Tip was delivered, the manager came over to ask if it was cooked to perfection, which it was. Mid meal check-in we praised the meal so highly, the manager then returned with print outs of the recipes! It doesn't get much better than that. I haven't had such outstanding customer service in so long, that I forgot what a difference that can make for a truly memorable experience. 2. Fresh, delicious seafood: If you like mussels you must order the Mussels a la Howard: The fennel, cream + sausage make a divine compliment to the mussel. Not to mention the mussels are local and ever so fresh and sweet. The raw oysters were immaculately cleaned and served with a rather nice mignonette and a cocktail sauce topped with horseradish (which I am a big fan of). I've never had horseradish on a raw oyster before, but now love it. Also a very nice New England clam chowder: Not too thick or thin in texture, not too starchy in potato or base - very fresh and tasty. 3. Atmosphere: On both visits we sat on the screened in porch situated on a small body of water. The first night it rained, but with the hot, summer air it was actually very nice. They offer communal blankets if you were to feel cold (not my thing, but love the concept and gesture). They also have industrial-sized heaters if need be. The view is so serene - not ostentatious, but definitely picturesque. Bonus points for: MOXIE! I had no idea Moxie (a soda from the early 1900's: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mo… ) originated from Maine until I came to Robert's. I used to have Moxie as a treat to take home after breakfast at the Quaker Diner in West Hartford, Connecticut as a little girl with my family. I really love that Robert's uses Moxie in their Tri Tip recipe. Such nostalgia! And so good! And also for: Using OpenTable.com , bathroom ( and overall) cleanliness, AND every desert on the menu is offered bite-sized. What a great idea! I've never seen that before in any restaurant I've ever been to - many French restaurants will offer portions on the more reasonable side, but never have I heard of offering bite-sized versions of the entire dessert menu. I, unfortunately, passed on dessert, but I heard the whoopie pie was worth writing home to. Sorry guys - dessert is an entirely different ball game to me, not to mention there are very few cake-like sweets I care for. Wine list was actually very well done - really fit the place very well - nothing on the list was out of place or unacceptable. If I may provide a suggestion/mention what I did not love about Robert's: The waitress was not aware of what fish and shellfish were fresh from that day. I do appreciate her admitting that she was unaware, and then returning with that information, but, to me, that was a bit unprofessional - and also left us having to wait in order to make a decision on the menu (which is not good for many reasons). I also did not care much for the cream cheese spread on crackers as an offering to start. For me, it was a bit too easy - too homey - and did not quite match the standard of excellence to follow. Although this combination makes for a good snack, I really feel that Robert's, being the fine establishment that it is, ought to offer something a bit more refined. Take my word for it - if you are in the Kittery/Portsmouth area do not think twice about visiting Robert's. Thank me later. e

Stopped in here with my mother and grandmother last Sunday for a bite to eat before hitting up the outlets. We decided to pass up the Weathervane this time around, not that these two places are comparable by any means... but still. The atmosphere was nice, beautiful building outside and comfortable/casual inside. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, as all the servers seemed to be. My grandmother and I split a haddock sandwich, which came with fries and a some huge onion rings. My mother got the lobster salad. Our meals were fantastic. Our haddock was seasoned just right and was crispy on all sides, no sogginess here, easily the best I've had. My mothers salad was HUGE and overflowed with a nice spring mix lettuce, and nice cuts of lobster meat. Prices are mid to high I think, but the quality and quantity of food is worth it. Everything tasted very fresh and was prepared nicely. No doubt that we'll be back next time were in the area.

This was a real winner! Took my wife for dinner to celebrate her birthday last night. The restaurant itself it very nice - loved the look. The food was excellent. The clam chowder could have used more clams & potatoes - but it was delicious. My wife had the salmon over linguine, which was tremendous. I had the fried clams, which were perfect. For dessert, my wife had the choclate cake (on the house) and I had the bluebery crumble (wow). Our server, Rosiland was outstanding - very attentive and friendly. Dinner ended up around $100 - which was a good value. Can't wait to go back!

Decent food but realize it is touristy restaurant. Most plates are $16 and up. Nice decor and I had no complaints about the service. And in my opinion, that Moxie soda is nasty.

Steamers - Yummy!! Had a small order so I could have dessert too :-) nice enclosed deck area - heaters on to chase away chill - should be fabulous later in the summer time.

The lobster roll was the best that I've had in a long time. The lobster was tender and lightly dressed in mayo. There also was a ton of it piled in a buttered homemade hot dog bun. The hot dog bun was not your typical cheap bland bun that you toss aside, very buttery and delicious. super happy with this place. service was slow which is why i docked them a star. go here if you are in kittery!

Yuck. Tried the fried calamari and it had no flavor. Try the calamari salad at Surf! You will get what you pay for there.

We've driven by this place at least 100 times. It never appealed to me from the outside. But, SO glad we tried it. The interior is very comfortable. The food is really excellent. I've tried the seafood stew, salad w/ salmon, and seafood casserole so far. All were fantastic. I'd recommend sticking to beer/wine though. The mixed drinks are pricey and don't have enough booze in them to justify the cost.

I absolutely love Roberts. The service is always great, the restaurant is always immaculate and the food is absolutely delicious - you can't make a wrong choice on their menu! I usually try to get seafood when I am here but tonight couldn't resist the buttermilk fried chicken and I am so happy I ordered it because it was the best fried chicken and mashed potatoes I have ever had! Especially good on a rainy September night! I love everything about this restaurant!

My husband and I stopped here for lunch while shopping in Kittery. We always check Yelp before trying a place and the reviews were right on. We sat upstairs overlooking the water. While waiting for our server we got a plate full of crackers and a chili black bean spread. It was amazing!! For aps we got oysters and shrimp cocktail. They were very fresh. We both got the xtra large lobster roll for the entree. There was a perfect mix of lobster and mayo on a foot long hotdoll roll. Superb!! The only two complaints I have is the cost is a bit high for lunch and we were asked if we wanted more crackers and spread and we said absolutely and we never got it. Very small complaints though and I would definitely go back. This is a must try!

We had an incredible experience here at Robert's. The food was excellent and the service was to match. The place was busy, but we never felt rushed to order or to pay the bill and exit. I would recommend Robert's to anyone who has a craving for lobster, steamers or a raw oyster bar.

Let me start out by saying that while I have eaten a lot of yummy food in my time, I have never been motivated to take to yelp and add my two-cents worth. Not to say this is the best food I have ever eaten in my life, but it was such a pleasant surprise, given that we just randomly drove up to the place. The food was fresh and delicious. The menu listed the sources (all local) for practically all of the key ingredients--the breads, the bacon, the salad greens, oysters, and even the ice cream. This, to me, speaks volumes--it all starts with good ingredients. The atmosphere was lovely--relaxing and open and airy. My son has several food allergies, and the kitchen was careful and accommodating. I had a garden salad that was perfectly dressed (not drowned in dressing), while others at our table had the lobster BLT (my daughter was still talking about it hours later), baked haddock platter, turkey sandwich (which looked completely delicious, and was made with actual turkey, not the cold cut kind) and fish and chips that must have been good because they had disappeared before I could grab some off my son's plate. I am currently trying to figure out how to get back there before we leave Maine next week. After eating our way around the area for the past two weeks (and 10 years) I can say with confidence that Robert's is a great find.

Nice place, certainly the best in the Kittery outlet area. Go for the $12 Tuesdat Community supper.

I heart Robert's!!! Delicious mussels and steamers, great staff and a cool atmosphere, what more could you want??? I got the grilled cheese with....wait for it..... LOBSTER !! Yes, that's right folks. A delicious sandwich with huge succulent chunks of scrumptious lobster meat inside. Not to mention the gorgeous french fries which are pretty much sticks of mashed potato inside a crispy exterior. The weathervane next door is pretty much the definition of meh. I always opt for Robby's.

Just had dinner here with the fmaily. Good chowder, steamer apps were very good and the fried seafood was very good as it's a beer batter. For those who don't know...Robert's is owned by the same people at Bob's Clam Hut across the street. Bob's is a casual place and Robert's is more upscale sitdown restaurant. Batter is different as Bob's is a dry batter vs beer @ Robert's. The fried fish is probably one of the best batter I've had. Onion rings were tremendous. We tried also the $12 community dinner which proceeds go to charity. The lobster mac & cheese was only fair but for a $12 3-course meal you can't expect too much. I'll be back next time if we go outlet shopping in Kittery.

Service was great. Food was average. Had my first lobster roll and thought it was no better than Stew Leonard's version. Barely had any clams in my clam chowder. I would return to try other dishes though.

First of all, we have to say we had the best service! Thank you Hugo! We were greeted with crackers and a yummy spread. One of our sons was full of teen attitude and with humor our server joked about the lecture I gave to our son to decide on something or go straight to bed when we returned to our room. He then brought the boys a little treat for them to enjoy after they finished their meals. Happy kids, make happy parents! The filet I ordered with a side of vegetables that were out of the ordinary and the tips my husband had were delicious. My sons fish and chips and spaghetti kids meal plates were licked clean, also. My husband and I enjoyed the atmosphere while the kids colored and looked around at the decor. The finale was superb too. All of us had desserts that hit the spot. We will definitely return to Roberts on our next visit to Kittery.

We ate here on a Sunday trip up to Kittery for some shopping and a change of scenery. Our dinner was lobster, salad, clam chowder, and bread. The salad was actually quite nice, and I'd recommend that with chowder for a meal. It was plenty (maybe even a bit too much?). We sat upstairs. It was casual, but pricey. I always wonder about that mix. To be honest it was nothing special, but we weren't disappointed either. The good thing is that it was conveniently located, and added to the whole tourist attraction. Parking was easy, bathrooms were clean. So go for it.

We chose Roberts because of the reviews and were very please with their menu selection, the taste of their food and the service. We wanted a Maine meal in a Maine type restuarant and this filled our expectations. The server gave us a complimentary onion rings which were light tasting and yummy as an apology for keeping us waiting. We did not feel like we waited at all. But thank you anyhow. Roberts supports their local economy by buying from local businesses and using very fresh local products. They are a green organization and supports sustainability. Hurray for them

Robert's Maine Grill is beautiful inside and out, with vibrant colors, modern décor and beautiful artwork on the walls. The bar provides a great view of the open kitchen, where everything was squeaky clean. My only confusion with the atmosphere were the tacky and out of place pawn shop style signs hanging above the bar advertising the specials. They were out of place and simply baffling. The beer selection was excellent with some delicious craft brews on draft. I tried three different types, each better than the last. (Yes, I had 3 beers at lunch - I said it was a holiday.) They were all less than $5 a glass for a 16 ounce pour, very reasonably priced. The cuisine is where Robert's really shines. The Mrs. had a perfectly sized salad with crisp greens and fresh scallops that seemed to melt as you bit them. I enjoyed the best lobster roll of my life, overflowing with huge chunks of lobster and just the right amount of mayonnaise on a perfectly toasted bun. I savored every minute and can't recommend it enough. The crab cake appetizer was tasty, but $13 only bought us two relatively small cakes, and I had to remind myself this was Maine and not Baltimore. Will probably try the calamari next time. Definitely glad we stopped in, was impressed with everything from the decor to the staff to the food, and am looking forward to my next visit. Eat here when you go to Kittery!!

Great place for lunch! FRESH seafood! Oysters are heavenly, cant wait to go back for their special oyster night. Clam chowder is perfect not too thick and not too thin with lots of clams. Lobster roll is all lobster little mayo and their onion rings are worth the drive from anywhere! What makes them even more special great fast service so u have more time for shopping and the tasty complimentary cheese and cracker appetizers.

Stopped in here after a brief rainy day trip to the Kittery outlets. Seemed very busy, but our wait was barely 5 minutes. Kale soup and baked haddock lunches were delicious. Great for kids, their kids menu even had 2 fish choices (fish & chips or baked haddock) which made our daughter very happy. Another person we were with loved the fried haddock sandwich and sweet potato fries.

I went here about a year ago and had the best steamers of my life. Today I returned just for the steamers the first batch that came out were under cooked, mushy and falling apart. I complained they put in a new order and removed the cost of them from the bill which was $19.99. Second batch came out and the texture was much better but they had so much garlic and spices on them you could not taste the clams. I didn't even want to dip them in the butter it made them worse. This was the first time I have ever left a restaurant and I felt sick. The staff handled everything great but I think they need to go back to the way they use to make them.

Have been to bob's clam hut before and enjoyed it so we decided to try the more upscale version Roberts. The building is nice and we were greeted and seated quickly by courteous staff. Our waiter brought some crackers and cheeses (the cheese was different but very good). We ordered drinks, the waiter suggested a local draft and brought a sample for me to try. We started off with some oysters, they have a large selection to pick from, they were very good with a great topping. For dinner I chose fish and chips, my wife ordered a lobster roll. The fish and chips was a good sized portion, very tasty and prepared well. The lobster roll was very good, very little filler but for the price there should have been more lobster meat n it. We decided to have dessert and chose two different 'bites', they were actually good sizes and enough for two full people. Would recommend it for those looking for more than the typical tourist place.

This place is a little expensive, but definitely worth considering. There are a lot of tables. If the weather is nice, ask for seating on the porch upstairs. You might be lucky enough to get seated there.

been here twice. the first time was pretty decent. good fresh oysters and a decent selection of draft beers to go with them. second time they must of had some Ape opening the oysters as they were mangled and had too many bits of shell. i mentioned this to the server and the next dozen were Worse. i again showed this to the waiter and he comp'd the full order, but frankly they we're really not worth eating, they were like pureed oyster shots. i do hope they get their act together cuz this is a pretty cool place in a Jungle of Outlet Shoppers. The Horror!

Your visit to Maine is not complete unless you try out their 'world famous' seafood. The restaurant we used to sample the food this time was Roberts Maine Grill and market. The lighthouse on the restaurant's exterior beckons to travelers on Route 1. One look at its parking lot reveals that many have headed its call. The decor inside is impressive and the maitre' d was friendly. He pulled out a live lobster from a tank near the restaurant entrance and invited us to hold it. The restaurant, according to locals is fairly new, but its management has been in the business for years. This was amply evident from the dishes they served. The clams were fresh and had a light flavor of the ocean unlike those served in Boston restaurants. As the special of the day(the grilled swordfish ) was sold out, I ordered the baked Haddock for dinner. It was delicious. For desert, I ordered bite size portions of the Sunday and received the whole portion, at no extra cost. (Not a bad deal) I washed down dinner with a glass of Smuttynose blueberry ale which had a great flavor. This is one of the best seafood restaurants that I have been to, in the recent past.

My family and I have been planning a rehearsal dinner at Robert's Grill for my wedding next Spring. I had heard great things, and have been working with their planner for over a month. We were ready to put a deposit down this week, when the manager decided that it wouldn't make economic sense to rent us their private room, since our dinner is to take place during a holiday weekend. They were aware of our event date from the start, and I'm not sure why it took a month to determine this. I'm disappointed in the lack of communication and customer service, and won't be dining here in the future.

Wow,what a gem! Robert's is a nice place on the bay. The inside is immaculate and sunny. The staff is cheery, warm, and inviting. This is a casual restaurant. The menu is small, buy unique. Among the treats is a Maine beer sampler, a sampler of Maine oysters, and a variety of salads for the vegetarians. All the food is locally grown, raised, or fished. The food was the freshest and best tasting that I have had in years. If you pass through Kittery STOP here and eat. You will not be disappointed.

My wife and I ate here in July and August of 2011 and had wonderful food! Seafood at its finest! Waitstaff was well-trained and promt. Food was excellent! Decor was very Maine coast and clean. Great local beers and good wine list. This is definitely worth a repeat.

Very nice inside, food was good. Good selection, fairly priced, good service-had two different managers stop by and ask how everything was. Glad it was a good experience as it is pretty much the only restaurant near the outlets besides fast food.

I've been back here a couple times since my original review and I can't say they've improved. There's just something lacking. The menu is limited and not very exciting. I still believe they cater mostly to out of towners shopping at the discount malls. On my last visit I had scallops with pasta. The scallops were fine. The pasta was a clump all stuck together. I will say one thing they have that I like is the mini-deserts, of course, you have to get through the rest of the meal to get there. This time I'll rate them a little higher, but there are much better choices in the seacoast area.

When we traveled to Kittery, Maine, we tried this place out, and we went back the next day because it was so good. I highly recommend the Turkey on Grilled Cranberry, Orange, Walnut Bread. It was the best sandwich I have ever had. The wait staff is incredibly friendly. My mom said she couldn't take her sandwich because we would be shopping and the car was too hot, and the waitress stored it in her personal fridge. I can't say enough good things about this place. We were all raving about our food.

Robert's is a pretty damn good seafood place and it reminds me a lot of higher end seafood places around where some of my family lives in Westport, CT. This is definitely not Bob's Clam Shack. You get pretty much what you pay for: good service, a good meal and a nice place to eat it. The deck is great in the summer. Another plus for me was that they have a nice emphasis on oysters on the half shell and if you like raw oysters and can eat the record amount in one sitting (I think the current record is over 100 now) you can get them all for free. Good luck, though. The oysters here are great either way. Roberts never struck me as extremely local like I would prefer for a seafood place and it doesn't have that hometown feel (it's also right near the outlets) but that doesn't ding it too much. To be fair, most of not all of their food is local. The lobster here was also great and the lobster roll was decent. You can expect to find all the seafood staples here. Roberts is a solid seafood restaurant that won't disappoint.

this is the perfect place to come fuel up after, during, or before your outlet shopping extravaganza! The decor: the perfect blend of modern chic with Maine Harbor. the menu ; big selection of tasty treats for everyone. fresh salads, meats, fish, etc, it had it all. Service: awesome! I asked if I could buy the sauce for my AMAZING (best ever by FAR) Moxie (long story, but I was obsessed for most of my teenage years)and bourbon glazed steak tips. Oh my god they were soooooooo good. Anyway, I asked if I could buy the sauce so I could bring it home. They said they've never done that but she could do it for me. Then she said they were almost out. I asked if they would ship it. Yes, I am that crazy, and yes, it was that good. They were not set up to do that but she asked for my contact info and would get back to me when they figured something out. I guess they are new, and I was being a crazy obsessive person about it, but it was seriously amazing stuff. the tops! Our table also got the yummy Lobster cobb salad and the fish and chips. I will say there was so much batter on the fish that it wasn't cooked all the way through (the batter, not the fish) but it was still good. The bathrooms were also actually nice and clean, the bar was cool. They did a great job with everything! I had an amazing experience here, and would HIGHLY recommend it!

Robert's Maine Grill and Market is smack in the middle of the Kittery Outlets, but that doesn't mean it's about junk food. The food's actually great. From the outside the restaurant looks like a mix of a harbor house and a lighthouse, but unfortunately the inside doesn't quite match that. It's pretty generic, colorless and impersonal, but there's a nice view if you get seated towards the back though. You gotta check out the awesome lobster pizza. For some reason it's only available as an appetizer, but it's quite big enough to feed one person on its own. The other standouts include various lobster salads. Often eating during outlet shopping trips is a disgusting swim in greesy junk food. Not so at Robert's Maine Grill and Market.

want to like this place because there is never very much of a wait, decor is open and comfortable and very clean feeling and kids are very much welcome. Staff is friendly, parking is easy. Problem is the exceptionally mediocre food. The mussels tasted as if they were poached in dishwater (no flavor whatsoever). Fried fish - huge piece of dried out haddock. Lobster bruschetta pretty much inedible. The waitress later admitted that the dish is "not one of their better" and immediately took it off our bill. Only thing I like are the crackers and cheese they serve at the beginning. Wish the food was better because the atmosphere is very pleasant and staff are nice. Food is a big old eh.

We've had dinner at Robert's a number of times since they opened up, and they've been consistently good. The fish is very fresh, and some of the entrees are creative, but the menu feels a little limited. My only disappointment there was the onion rings -- the beer batter was rather gooey and tasteless. I've avoided ordering their fried fish because they use that same batter as they use on the onion rings, instead of copying the fabulous fried fish they have at Bob's Clam Hut across the road (same owners). We love picking up fresh salmon there to cook at home -- their front fish counter may look somewhat empty, but they'll sell you the same perfect fresh fish that they use in the kitchen, and we've never been disappointed with their fish! The service is fine, they have been good at special requests, and the decor is a little boring but pleasant enough. The view of the marsh and river is lovely if it's light out and you get a table near those windows.

Was happy to find a real (non-fast food) place to meet up with a friend after my day long shopping adventure in Kittery. (thanks Yelpers!) It was a nice set-up. The bar looked very nice (candle-lit and wide open), but we ate in the dining area. Started w/ the spinach artichoke dip (delicious)... I had the steak tips (marinated w Moxie and some sort of BBQ sauce- sounds weird, but was yummy), and my friend had a crab/ avocado sandwich which she said was beyond yummy. We also split dessert... some sort of crazy-licious chocolate/gnache/coffee cake thing. It was heavenly! I'd plan on going back on my next visit. It was nice to have a 'real' restaurant on the main strip! The only thing I didn't really like, and I mean no offence if he's reading this... but I didn't like the accordian player. I jumped each time he started a new song. it just didn't really match the style of the place. Kinda weird.

here is the low down on this place...i live in California and lobster, especially good lobster isn't easy to find, i mean you can score a tail at red lobster for what is it now, 30 bucks or so, or you can go to a higher end place and spend a cool 80 bones for a lil flapper...either way lobster is one of my favorite things EVER, so my then partner and i had a trip planned to Manhattan and Boston so we decided to rent a car and cruise thru new hampshire, Connecticut and Maine. once i heard Maine i said we would not be coming home until i had a main lobster in main, being a total seafood hater he complied...anyhow, being a few months before the trip i started to save specifically for this meal, i mean i didn't know what to expect and i was not about to scrimp...i didn't care what it took or what it cost i was on a mission i tell ya....so we roll in, the crowd was pretty yuppie, kind of like an ll bean catalog, the restaurant was pretty tastefully decorated, looked like pottery barn meets cool new england casual, we have a seat and the hostess was super nice, we ordered a lobster pizza appetizer, for lunch he had a burger... no I'm serious, a burger, when it came to me, i told our waitress that I'd happily take the largest lobster they had, they are whole ya'll its mainly shell, i kept telling myself that so as not to feel like a orca man pig from hell, or look like i was reliving that scene from splash...so, the waitress says ok, she comes back and tells me ummm sir as a courtesy i have to tell you the lobster is 3.1 pounds and the cost is 28.00 dollars...i said ok wait, 3.1 pounds for under 30 bucks?!?! after i turned my underpants inside out from muddling them up from sheer ecstasy i told her, sister I'm from California, you can hardly scoop up a tail n two scallop for 28 bucks, yer telling me the whole sea-roach is 28! after she composed herself from laughing she said yea, i told her of course ill take it girlfriend...so it comes out cherry red and glistening in the afternoon sunlight, and i mowed it down like a death row mermaid and let me tell you, it was deeeeeeee-lish! main lobster in Maine, i mean can it really get better, this entire experience did not disappoint, head on in for yourself, i know you will love it
