As far as brewery's go, this place is pretty awesome. The beers that I had so far are pretty stellar: Very smooth. The food that I had (The fried pickles and Reuben were pretty delicious). I'm taking one star away because I feel the menu is lacking a few key items and have some out of place items. It's an Irish bar, so I would have expected Bangor's and Mash and Shepherd's Pie. Instead, I saw quesadilla's and nachos. If they add those 2 items, I will increase the rating to 5 stars.

Exactly what we were looking for. Great place to stop on our way to Bar Harbor. Ate with 5 adults, 2 kids and everyone enjoyed their meals.

We ended up in Bangor for a concert. On Saturday night, we were looking for a place open (I guess 8:30pm is late for Bangor?), and the woman at the front desk of our hotel both suggested Geaghan's. Okay great, we'll try it. It's very casual, what you would expect a typical Irish pub to look like. The food was very bleh... we couldn't decide what we wanted for an appetizer, so the waitress suggested the sampler, she did warn us it was large, but what we got was a plate full of fried food. She said there were fried pickles on there, and when there wasn't the manager wouldn't let her bring some out for us (fine, we could not finish what was in front of us anyway). But everything was cooked in the same bland batter. When we got the bill we were shocked that the plate cost $30. $30 for bland fried food ( we wouldn't have cared had everything else on the menu not been under $15). Regardless, the waitress was very sweet, and maybe we just ordered the wrong food, but I wouldn't come here again.

We stopped in here on a Tuesday night for a quick drink and had a very nice time. We sat on the deck in back which was quaint and relaxing. The beer was fine, nothing fantastic. Server was very knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered the cheese and crackers. The cheese was different than expected, but very tastey. The crackers all came in individually wrapped packages, seemed odd. But had no affect on the taste, of course. The location looks questionable - on the back end of a low-priced hotel. But don't let that fool you. You'll have a nice time here.

This place is amazing. Upon entering, it's as if not only you're in Dublin, but everyone is your long lost friend. People start with a story and as the night progresses so does the embellishment. Great fun. The staff is in a word super - each one is happy to see you and it's such a pleasure. Not sure when I will return, but this place is a must!

Great craft beers for every taste. Andy Geaghan was awesome in showing his hospitality and explaining how a first rate world class beer is made. The food variety is great too. The Maine scallops covered with their pub cheese is unbelievable! The buffalo wings are fantastic too. A definite stop if you are in the area!

Feels pretty basic and average. Nothing special food wise from what I could tell. The beer I had was good and feels like that would be the main pull for anyone to come.

I love going to Geahgans, the food is always great and the servers are happy and pleasant. I would recommend this restaurant for an evening out for dinner

Craft beer? Yes! Best chicken wings ever? Of course! Ambience? Awesome! Great place in Bangor! I tend to believe it is the best bar in the city and the only bar I would go to! From breakfast to lunch and dinner this place has it all covered. The best wings (boneless) I ever had. Pair that with the craft beer that they brew in the back room and you can be a happy camper! I wish they would stay open late, but giving the location, I understand why.

The beer is good, at least I can say that, even though they had run out of "Bangor Brown", which I wanted to try. The Oatmeal Stout was good, as were other beers we tried. The ambience? Loud. So loud I could not understand what the people on the other side of my booth were saying. As for the food, it was entirely mediocre and tasteless. I had the Crowley's Black Irish Steak Melt, which promised to be tasty with ingredients of blue cheese, bacon and onion along with the shaved steak. But it was a greasy, sodden mess with no flavor at all. The fries accompanying it were also devoid of flavor. They don't salt the fries, which is fine, but they tasted rather rancid. My wife had the pastrami melt, which was similarly tasteless. Service was fine, but it's not a place I will return to if I want food. For beer alone, it's probably the best in town.

Geaghan's is our go to place! My two year old grandson requests Geaghan's when we ask where he wants to go. Lance is the best server EVER! The wings, especially Reserve, are killer! House made blue cheese dressing to dip them in...yeah, baby! Angry Irishman, Molly Malone, Irish Nachos...all good! Oh, did I mention the in house craft brew?!?

  • Natalie D.

This is a really great classic. The food is delicious and unpretentious. They have built up a brewery business and I haven't had one of their beers that I didn't like. Try the Penobscot Icebreaker if its on tap. Its seasonal and amazing!! I would also suggest the reserve sauce for your boneless wings. It is not on the menu, but a widely known secret. Its a prefect mix of buffalo sauce and sweet brown sugar. It sounds strange at first, but you won't be disappointed. Sit in the bar if there is room!

My job takes me to Bangor pretty often for team meetings and community events that we usually book at Hollywood Slots next door in one of their conference rooms. We can usually eat the terrible buffet at the Slots or pop over to Geaghan's Pub to grab some pub food. I have been here during happy hour when it is packed to the gills with people from all over and is both noisy and buzzing also but I will give an overall view of this place. The decor is stale and bland for the most part with some signage of some irish culture and lots of older stuff to try to make it feel vintage and older with pretty uncomfortable booths with hard and flat benches. For the most part, every single time that I have been in here (about 4-5) I receive great service from very friendly people. This a true sign of passion and caring for the food and establishment in general. The only food item that I choose to get while I am here are their boneless buffalo wings. Now, I am usually a bone-in wing kinda guy but these lightly breaded morsels of goodness are literally some of the best boneless wings I have ever had and even rivals my bone-in wings in taste and depth. I have tried to go with something else there and, although it wasn't bad at all, I left unsatisfied and craving more of these little chicken pieces. They serve them in Mild, Wild or Ouch sauces and they are all packed with flavor no matter what temperature you are diving into. The other thing is that they are now brewing their own beer called Geaghan Bros. Brewing. I have heard good things but have not had any myself. So, in summary, if you are looking for some delicious boneless buffalo wings and some microbrew, then pop over to Geaghans, just expect the lot to be filled on Friday or Saturday night.

So Ive been in Bangor 7 days and have eatin here 5 times already. The breakfast was amazing. I had the Chieftian Omlet that was freakin awsome, and my wife had their amazing oatmeal and cheese eggs. Later that afternoon I had 3 of their different beers and the bleu chees dip with a lobster roll. later that night I had the rest of their beers and the awsome bean burger. This place is awsome. Good food Great beer.

I wasn't too impressed with Geaghan's. Nothing spectacular in my opinion. Not a bad spot, but you could do better - even in Bangor. I thought the restaurant could use a nice new touch as far as the interior went if atmosphere is your thing. And the food wasn't anything special, not bad though - so don't get me wrong. Good food, just not the best Bangor has to offer.

  • Sherena O.

My husband took me here for the first time today and the service and food was fantastic. If you get the chance, the boneless chicken wings are the best we've ever had... An absolute must. :)

This place has really gone downhill over the past five years. I am originally from the Bangor area and used to frequent Geaghan's when I was a Maine resident. I've had many hangover recovery breakfasts as well as delish burgers/wings in the past. When my husband and I made the trip "home" to visit this summer, we planned a family/friends get together at Geaghan's thinking it would be a casual (reasonably priced) place appropriate for both Grandma and our twenty something year old friends. I was yearning for those amazing boneless wings - the kind of wings dreams are made of, but unfortunately Geaghan's didn't pull through. The wings had really deteriorated in quality. It was like the fryer wasn't working properly and they didn't brown. Soggy almost? I got a lobster salad because I had been gorging myself on fried food for the last few days. The lobster salad itself was very good, but the "bed of lettuce" was more like a "bed of browning iceberg lettuce ribs" and the accompanying vegies were clearly bought from a food wholesaler that ships produce a million miles because the tomatoes and cucumbers were dry and lackluster. I take my vegies pretty seriously people. Why not try to buy something somewhat decent (and local). It was August in Maine for crying out loud. The Irish nachos, however were amazing. Specifically the house made pub cheese on the nachos was to die for. I loved the local selection of beers. This was a great addition to the restaurant.

I've had better...MUCH better! No vegetarian options other than salad & the typical veggie-burger, which my friend ordered & was hard as a rock. I had the chicken spinach sandwich- sans chicken hoping they'd load it with spinach- I had to steal everyone at the table's garnish lettuce to get something other than cheese in between my bread! Friend hardly touched his fatty- not the good kind- steak. Irish nachos were good though. Waitstaff was nice & place was clean but I would definitely not eat here again.

  • Elizabeth A.

Delicious!!! We had the Chicken Melt and the Reuben and they were awesome. I had the chicken melt honey BBQ style and it was the best melt I've ever had! We also had the sweet potato fries and onion rings, both were great! We would definitely go back if we were in the area.

  • Becca F.

Yummy! Went with a bunch of coworkers the other night and had a great time! The food was very good, and our waitress was right on it! I had the buffalo chicken quesadilla and it was very good. I also love the pub cheese, (little pricy for cheese) but very good. We always go here before a concert and always make it to the show on time : ) Also I love coming her for breakfast. Try it!

Best local brews and wings. We called ahead and got right in even though there was a long wait.

  • Clare D.

Love me some Geaghan's! Order a pint of the Irish Bastard and the wings with the reserve sauce (trust me). Good crowd, bar seating as well as outdoor and restaurant. Good for kids, groups, and just a solo night out.

  • Alise K.

Irish pub stuck in the back of a motel. Really really good pub food. I had the buffalo chicken quesadilla. Huge, of course I did not finish it . The family had ruebens and a special chicken and cheese grilled. Def a place to stop for lunch in the Orono/Bangor area

  • Kiana M.

My kids and I love Geaghan's! From breakfast to late night beers and wings-- always fantastic!

    (5)
  • Kendra H.

For me, the food was just ok. The pickle chips and fried mushrooms need some sort of seasoning in the batter, they were pretty plain. The lobster roll was pretty good but the fries and coleslaw that come with it are pretty sub par. The beer on the other hand was great!

    (2)
  • Jessi B.

Wouldnt serve my friend's autistic son a grilled cheese for breakfast, despite doing it in the past

Wings are to die for! Irish nachos are awesome! Waitstaff love their jobs and it show! Serve their own beer, which is darn tasty!

Good craft beer brewed in house. Extremely busy (we were there on a random Tuesday afternoon). Didn't have dinner. My G&T was super strong.

Their sweet potato fries are on point! Enjoyed a delicious chicken ceasar salad as well. Great service overall

I love their vegetarian burger & fries, and their desserts are simply to die for. The cheesecake was so amazing that I brought an entire pie home!

When my wife and I wanted to have lunch somewhere and couldn't decide we were driving by the casino. She told me that she had eaten there with her father, so a newly wed couple sat down to eat... One of the best burgers I have had in my life! This place rocks, she got the nacho salad and that was good too! I will def be back after the baby is born to try their micro-brew!

    (5)
  • Kristin S.

Best boneless buffalo wings around! I get mine hot with a side of "Ouch" sauce. Delish! Because the buffalo wings are so good, the only other thing I've tried there has been the rueben which was tasty as well. Always a good crowd, not many bar seats, but I can usually find two for my husband and I when we go. Nice selection of beers on draught. My only comment is that sometimes I have to wait longer than I would like to get a drink. If you like mixed drinks then the bartenders here make a heavy handed one (I hope I didn't just get anyone in trouble, but a strong drink is an excellent reason to go to a certain bar)!

  • Tony M.

Went with a group of four people. Service was prompt, and food was great. I had the pub burger, and it was fantastic, as well as the bread pudding, which had an eggnoggy flavor I loved.

  • Tom W.

Had Saturday Night dinner there on the spur of the moment. Was in the mood for either corned beef or pastrami sandwich. Opted for a Reuben. It was very tasty and satisfied my craving. The local craft brew offerings gave that added something make it an enjoyable meal. My wife opted for the prime rib and said it was the best she had in a long time. It was one of the few times that medium well meant medium well and not rare or even "walking off the plate". It was cooked the way she likes it...no pink. The atmosphere was comfortable. Loved the railroad themed placards on the wall...bit of a history lesson.

    * Been here a few dozen times. * Nice beer selection. * Great wings. * Strong drinks. * Small Bar. * Food other than wings a 7 out of 10.

Never knew what the big deal about this place was, but this weekend's visit sealed the deal. Went in with a large group on a Sat night around 7:30 pm. Instantly got dirty looks from the staff and could sense their irritation with the large party. Waited at the bar and ordered drinks since they were getting a table ready. The was a big group of us, but the attitude was crappy. Twice one waitress said 'I need to get by' in a pissy tone. Another said 'I need you to move!' Granted we were taking up space but we were spending money and it wasn't our fault they didn't have a place ready for us to sit. We weren't a group of kids either-mix of ages from 20s to 40s. They finally decided to put us in the banquet room where a family was trying to have a Christmas party-probably not the best plan on their part. My husband was threatened to be kicked out if he didn't rat out a guy who grabbed a waitresses butt. (the waitress complained to management AFTER she had taken $3 when asked if her butt could be grabbed for money, BTW) Our waiter was nice and stayed out of the BS. I also could have made better food at home. I wasn't drinking, either, so this review isn't jaded.

Been going there regularly for years. The food is very good, the staff is Excellent, the prices very favorable. One of those "where everybody knows your name" places, nicely decorated with a fusion of railroad stuff and Irish Memorabilia. A minor lack of imagination or adventure is typified by the fact that the vegetable of the day on Friday is always corn. Ahhh, a big ole Guinness after a long work week.... Fresh lobster meat in the roll, the best boneless wings.

The restaurant (attached to the Penobscot Inn) in which breakfast, lunch , and dinner are available. Good food and the prices are reasonable. The Roundhouse Restaurant is most enjoyable with an friendly staff and an interesting "atmosphere" - Railroad Trains!!! Lotsa fun looking at the collection of photos, prints, old advertisements, etc. web site: info@bangorbestinn.com

This is a review on the BREAKFAST only: I had 2 soft poached eggs, oatmeal toast, and the home fries with coffee. Homemade toast was sooo good, great with the eggs on them. The home fries could have been a little more crispy and not so under cooked and the coffee tasted very watery. However for the price and for the speed of service (went after the gym and before class) you couldn't beat it. Waitress was nice enough and the large group of old old men next to us having breakfast were super entertaining. Very good home cooked breakfast. I forgot they served the toasted blueberry muffins... think I might need to try those next time...

  • Elizabeth S.

Awful. Everything. We named the fly that persisted to bother us throughout our meal. At least he/she was present, unlike our waitstaff. I realize the establishment couldn't help the fact that there was an obnoxious child screaming and running around, but it helps to set the stage for the meal from hell that we experienced. The food was bad, service worse. Never, ever again. I cannot wait for this to fade from my memory; I write this now with Bangor in the rear view so I don't have to think about this place again. Fair warning.

Decided to try this based on reviews here. We tried to go on a weekend night and it was just too busy for us to wait with our 2 year old. Went later on a Sunday, the place was quiet and we were greeted quickly. We had boneless wings (wild) and onion rings. They served the wings with both blue cheese and ranch. The blue cheese was especially good. The food was good and server was nice. They were out of both of the beers my husband and I wanted. It was the day after St. Patrick's day, so that isn't surprising. I tried their Refueler, a unfiltered wheat beer. It was good. We will be back.

This is the place that we bring friends and family that are from out of town looking for a good meal and drinks. They have the best boneless wings in the area, great pub fare. And they are now a Brew house. Almost of of the beers that they make in house are great. The service is always great, even when they are busy. We don't usually go on weekends anymore cause it is way too busy for us then. Breakfast on the weekends is great too.

  • Heather V.

Best boneless wings in town, hands down. Try the reserve sauce - not on the menu, but delicious! The buffalo chicken quesadillas, irish nachos and burgers are a very close second, but you've got to try the wings! I typically eat in the bar, not the dining section and the bar staff has never failed to greet us and treat us like family.

  • Sara L.

Bad service, fatty wings, fast food style burgers... Not what I expected for an Irish pub, very subpar

    (2)
  • Anthony G.

Found this by Yelp during my son's UMaine orientation, and was not disappointed. Loved the boneless wings - got the "ouch" sauce and it was good an hot (I like it hotter, though). Fried haddock sandwich was *excellent*. Brownie dessert was good (not great - prob not worth the calories). BUT, and this was a big one for me - Guinness on draft.... oh so very yummy. On my next visit to the area, I may stay on the adjoining hotel visit both for the Guinness (no drinking and driving) and also for the breakfasts which sound terrific. Closer to four stars than 5, but rounded up because our waitress, Melanie, was terrific. Enjoy!

I only ever get reserve boneless wings and fresh cut fries. They are the bomb. I think we had breakfast here once, it was alright but the wings and fries = the bomb.

One of two places that I have to hit when I'm in Bangor. Great boneless wings and fried clams. Great staff and owners make this a must stop on a trip into town.

  • Thomas Awesome G.

Okay, a little disclaimer: My dad owns the place (It's been owned and operated by the Geaghan family sicne 1975). So, hells yeah I'm a bit biased. HOWEVER... I can speak from my experience and the experience of everyone I've ever brought through the doors: Geaghan's Pub is the shizzy. If you're a "pub" kinda' person and you live in Bangor, this should be your place. The atmosphere is about as friendly as it gets and the food is out of this world. For instance: I challenge you to find a better place for boneless buffalo wings within a 50 mile radius of Bangor. And that's just for the appetizers. All of the bread and rolls are homemade, the fries are hand-cut, and we Geaghans didn't get to be the gorgeous, well-built folk we are without a secret recipe or two. You won't be disappointed. (Check out the wegsite at geaghanspub.com )

Get the boneless buffalo wings w/ reserve sauce & the pub cheese is the best!

Breakfast this morning at Geaghan's outstanding breakfast bear claw to die for baked fresh on premises.

  • Adam K.

A fantastic pub. The food was excellent; the French fries were nice and crispy with a good consistency. I last had the pub burger, which is a nice burger on a toasted bun with the Geaghan cheese sauce: a fantastic concoction. Even the coleslaw was good; and that's saying something. I would go here for lunch any time. If my friends and I wanted to play it on the inexpensive before what would be an expensive night out drinking, then I would definitely bring everyone here for dinner. The food prices are excellent, the quality is good, and the quantity is perfect. The bar area is cozy, and there are plenty of regulars. That alone tells me this place has an established presence in Bangor. The benches were comfortable. This place is actually rather large too. You could go there with quite a sizable group of people and be comfortable. All-in-all a great place. If you're on that side of Bangor and you're thinking "hmm, the Hollywood Slots for lunch might be nice" just keep driving! Go to Geaghan's.

    (4)
  • Karen K.

I make sure to make a stop at Geaghan's everytime I am home visiting my family. They have a great beer selection, everyone is super friendly. I have never had a bad experience here. It just might be my favorite place in Bangor.

  • Jason H.

Great beer and great food. I love the bar here and often meet friends when we want to get together for a few pints. The booths are large and comfortable in the bar/lounge, the servers are attentive, the people are nice, the atmosphere is great. Their "Smiling Irish Bastard" Pale Ale is my favorite beer in the Bangor area; their other brews are delicious as well. They've got an awesome, strong IPA for hop lovers, too (Captain Kool). Really, what is so great about this place is how it just keeps getting better. I've been coming to Geaghan's since 2002 and feel like every year that goes by, they just get better and better at everything they do. The breakfast here is also something to come for. I'm a big fan of the roast beef hash in particular. They've always been known for their pub cheese and the boneless wings (easily the best in Bangor), but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, anything, this is a great place to go.

  • Meg M.

I love Geaghan's, I really do. The best boneless buffalo wings I, and pretty much anyone else who has tasted them, have ever had in my life and probobly ever will. The pub cheese spread they give you with crackers, at dinner only, is definately one of my favorite cheesy things on the planet. They sell it in tubs to-go as well, which is convienient to bring to a party when you want to bring something to please a crowd but are too lazy to make anything. Geaghan's also makes my absolute favorite reuben, their corned beef is so tender and I like that they use their coleslaw instead of saurkraut. They also serve a pretty decent breakfast and good burgers. Sit in the pub area for the most geaghansy experience, more fun to be around the regulars and wise cracking staff in this section than sit in the boring dining room area. If you are in Bangor going to Geaghan's is a must especially on St. Patty's of course!

I love the Boneless Buffalo Wings!

  • S G.

I love this place. I feel it's the most comfortable pub atmosphere in the Bangor area. Servers are great, food is pub food, it's not fine dining, but, I'm rarely disappointed by the food or the beer. The lounge gets VERY busy around 5pm on weekdays. All different types of people, young and old. It's my go to pub.

  • Lauren R.

The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is b/c my husband swears the boneless wings are the best he's ever eaten. I MIGHT be willing to try them still - takeout ONLY IF he goes to pick them up so I don't have to run into the biggest roach I have EVER SEEN hanging out right on the ramp in front of the doorway to the restaurant/hotel. The ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. Between two of us our meals were good, but not great - I had a cheeseburger and my friend had scallops. My husband said his meal was the worst he's had in 15 years - rib-eye sandwich. We chose to go here while a friend was in from out of town b/c of all the good things I've heard from friends and the reviews on here. I am disappointed we did waste a meal and money here, but glad I now know what we're not missing.

    (2)
  • Cathy C.

Geaghan's is a fun place to spend a Friday night. The ambiance is the best part with bustling staff, unusual decor, and lots of interesting people chatting and enjoying an early start to their weekend. The food is just fine but nothing gourmet.
